I've seen a few Magical girl RPs on here, but they all seem very old, or they're not open... so, I was wondering if anybody else would be interested in one.

I'm interested if it veers more towards Precure or Symphogear-style shenanigans than, say, Madoka-style. Every magical girl RP I've seen seems to be made by people who've only ever seen Madoka which is a bit sad really. ^^;

Not that I don't like Madoka or anything (far from it, the series is pretty awesome), it's just it'd be fresher to see something that wasn't a play on it. XD

Definitely interested, but would love some plot? Even just a small description and if you need help I'm sure all of us wouldn't mind contributing?

Potentailly intersted. Also, I agree with @Rin I'm not going to be interested if it's that Madoka style edginess.

Maybe it's too hard, but I'd love to participate in a historical magical girl RP. Like, taking place in 19th century London or amongst the American or Australian pioneers.

The blend between the two would be quite weird indeed.

I dunno, magical girls always seemed like a specifically "modern" thing if that makes sense? Since when you think about it, at it's most basic level it's kind of just a bright and cheerful take on urban fantasy. Placing it in a historical setting feels like it would change it from urban fantasy to just straight up fantasy, if that makes sense.

...I'm choked up and delirious with a cold right now so if that's a bit hard to follow that's why. ^^;

I kinda understand what you are getting at, the magical girl genre at its core really seemed to be more about adding onto the more mundane, humdrum life that people are familiar with. You take the genre outside of the 'modern' world and its no longer about the possibilities and potential of people. Also a lot of magical girl type stories are centered around a certain theme that a modern age person can relate to and understand, along with the challenges that go with it in a modern society.

You take the modern setting out and then the audience can no longer closely relate to the characters and so the magical girl genre just morphs into a magical fantasy setting. The reason the magical girl genre is so popular is because of how people can often relate to the characters and therefore think that they too, can also have the potential for so much more.

Anyway if you can think of a decent plot I'll show my interest to be sure. Hmm, I might look at some older ideas I had in the past while I'm at it...

Posting my idea for the RP here, particularly how the big bad came to be. Feel free to ignore it if it doesn't suit your liking.

This, this, this.

This, this ten times.

It's ironic how the classic fun gigs of Mahou Shoujo are now overshadowed by deconstructions in the RP department. Everyone's going for Madoka this, Mahou Shoujo of the End that...

Granted, Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku is one of my favourite Mahou Shoujo, but those have some nice later arcs remniscent of classic Mahou Shoujo, add the villains aren't safe from the karma.

@Crow Ultimately, the Madoka Magika has done to the Magical Girl genre what Batman has done to the Comic industry. The character archetype that served as the deviation from the mainstream has now become the mainstream and the characters that were the mainstream have now become the deviation. But, they stil treat this as though it's a deviation, regardless of the fact that it's over-saturating the market at the moment.

And honestly... I never really saw the appeal of Madoka Magika. Especially since, for as much people claim "It's a mold-breaking show that redefines the genre" It sure does love to stick to the tropes of anime. I mean, out of 12 episodes, only the last 2 were of any real note and the twist was kinda predictable.

I'm not saying that I don't think it's good and that people shouldn't like it, I just saw it as a mediocre show that everyone went absolutely ape-shit for.

Okay, umm... to be honest, I didn't really have a plot in mind when I made this post XD Guess I should think that through next time, huh?

I do like @Hammerman's idea somewhat, and would be willing to use that as part of it, if others were interested. Also, to be honest once again, I do agree with @Rin- while never having seen the other two (although I am looking into watching them in my free time now), Madoka definitely isn't the kind of magical girl thing I'm as interested in. Something with less dark and more fun is something that really shines to me. I have read some of Tokyo Mew-Mew, and from what I've read on the other two, they're less dark than even that. (I've gotten pretty mixed reviews on Precure, though.)

*cough* So, with that in mind, I can get to setting up a plot. However, if everyone is okay with @Hammerman's idea, I can have that play a large role in the plot.

I'm fine with Hammerman's idea. Although, I would also vote this be in a modern setting.

Been trying to come up with my own plot ideas as an alternative but we'll see how that turns out. XD

@SorrelmystThe mixed reviews regarding Precure are probably because each series is basically its own self-contained thing (thus most of them you don't have to watch in order of release), with some being considered really good and others being considered... Not so good, to put it lightly. Which series falls under which category is a subject of heated debate, although most people seem to consider Heartcatch Precure to be one of the better ones if I remember right.
