@CrazyShadowy Quick question, does my character (Helma) have her cell all to herself?

No, I believe I put Helms in with Shadow's character. The only ones with a cell to themselves are in solitary.

Yo Shadow. I haven't had a chance to read anything here, but I've been planning to (considering three GRG people are involved in this, all of which are basically friends of mine). I've just been too swamped with GRG work, which is more complicated without being able to run Discord on the PC currently.

Anyway, will take a look eventually. Like I've mentioned a few times, I don't generally do Sci-Fi, but I'll at least read it over.

Edit: So I've got this right though, all the characters are basically convicted criminals?

Understandable, as I've mentioned before if you need any help with anything I'm here to do as such. I did sorta steal some of the GRG crew for this, to which it's all in good fun I promise. Not like I plan to capture them forever or anything.

Take your time, get your stuff done first and then come and read this stuff over. I know you've mentioned not doing Sci-Fi much but that you'd read this, to which I'm glad for.

Yeah, everyone is a convicted criminal, that is correct.

Hey, it's not like people can't be in multiple role-plays, and neither Phantom nor Heap have lost any interest in GRG due to joining this (actually, they seem to be two of the most hyped for the thing), so it's all fine and dandy. I'm sure those two would probably like having me on board with this, but I need to pick my role-plays carefully for a multitude of reasons.

I could probably come up with a character for the convict situation easily enough, so it'd depend on how I feel about everything else (the Sci-Fi elements, setting, concepts, et cetera) and whether those things would work well with my writing style. I'm curious as to whether or not they can be falsely convicted (I'm not inherently planning to go with this, since I don't even have a basic idea for a character, but I'm wondering).

I'm sure they would enjoy having you on board with this, I know I would if you came to that conclusion in the future. Having a fair bit of players already know each other and or roleplay together can make it that much more personal. I'm all for that.

Understandable if trying to see if this Sci-Fi genre could work with your writing style. That is always something to look out for in things of this nature. As for a false conviction, yes it could happen. It's happened in real life as well to many people. While if it's proven that they aren't at fault for the crime commited, they will get out. Atleast from my understanding on that topic.

Honestly, I think role-plays usually work much better if the group involved are friends. A healthy OOC often contributes largely to whether or not a role-play is active. We'll see what happens, but I'm considering it. Really all depends on whether I think my tastes/style will blend into this well enough -- I don't generally go futuristic.

If someone's discovered to be innocent, they generally get released, yeah. I'm not inherently aiming at having them get pardoned, or even committing to playing someone with such a backstory as of yet, but I figured I'd get the details down.

And I love Sci-Fi genre as a whole. >.>

Which is understandable, they do tend to work out better with groups of friends. I don't know why but they just do, I guess it falls into them trying to give good posts for the others to have. Better than usual I'd assume, maybe they try to give it 110% in that situation. I really don't know. I am glad you're considering it and I do understand what you usually work with. My reasoning for it being futuristic is the technology they have in this scenario.

Fair enough reason if you ask me, I don't think they would be pardoned in this case given the costs to bring someone down here and back up. It'd be an interesting backstory if you went with that, while I do know you aren't aiming for that I still say it'd be interesting none the less.

It's not like I think there's anything 'wrong' with someone liking Sci-Fi or something -- it's just not my thing. The closest things I could give you (off the top of my head) to something Sci-Fi that I liked was Xenogears, Final Fantasy VIII, and Ergo Proxy. None of them apart from the last one really feels like a genuine Sci-Fi. Any other ones I could mention would include spoilers.

Anyway, 'yo, nice to meet you'.

@CrazyShadowy

I understand why role-plays involving friends are more effective, honestly. There's plenty of good reasons.

Anyway, with the whole technology thing requiring the setting be futuristic, I understand why you'd need to do that. It's not like this is GA (my main project for people in this thread who don't know me) or something, where there's insanely powerful technology in a more or less modern setting (it's complicated). Looking into the technology's something else I'll need to read over before committing to things.

Essentially, it's illegal to keep someone in jail if it's a known fact they're innocent, but that's in the real world -- could very well be different in a fictional setting.

@Shoryu Magami

Yeah, there are many reasons. I do know some of them just not how to pour them out as words.

Yeah, the setting difference between GA and Asbasta with the technology is one of the main ones. Differing from modern to futuristic because of that bit. While I don't have a problem if someone did something like this with a modern setting. That would be more complicated to have setup compared to skipping ahead to when the technology is there.

Exactly, it's illegal in a real world setting if they are innocent, but as you said that's in the real world. It could be different in a fictional setting, you are correct there and it is different in this setting I have going.

@Shoryu Magami I actually played Xenogears, and it was awesome. So you aren't really into the massive space battles or something?

And yeah, hi.

@CrazyShadowy

Well yeah, I've made no secret that GA is complicated, especially since I'm not really spoiling anything if I say the 'Sci-Fi' elements are basically an illusion (technically, the same applies to Xenogears, since it was actually far more esoteric).

@Landaus Five-One

Xenogears is, honestly, one of the best stories/games ever created in my eyes. It largely helps that it was made by Squaresoft and was inspired by Gnosticism (both of which have a lot of significance to me), but yeah. I wouldn't say it 'inspired' GA or anything, because I developed my project over a decade before knowing Xenogears existed (I'm from Australia, and Xenogears never came out here, so all I knew about it until ten or eleven years ago was from one video game magazine I had), but there's definitely some parallels.

Anyway, as for the spaceships thing, not really. I have exceptions where sometimes I'll like something like that, considering I'm technically into the Gundam series and whatnot, and Star Ocean (though this is like Xenogears and Final Fantasy, in the sense of not completely being Sci-Fi), and Zone of the Enders is another good series (I forgot about them when I gave my previous examples, since they were off the top of my head), but I'll pretty much never get into something solely on the basis of it being Sci-Fi. Basically, the genre itself doesn't win me over, so I need other elements. I'm not particularly interested in technology, for just one example of why.

Long story short, I can enjoy a futuristic setting, but it has to have other elements I'm interested in. To be fair though, I have exactly the same sort of attitude towards the medieval fantasy genre. I'm really picky about things that I'm interested in, and tend to have a lot of extreme likes and dislikes, but my main genre of interest is contemporary fantasy. The battles in my project are often beyond cosmic level, but not using technology.

@Shoryu Magami Yeah Final Fantasy is definitely in the middle of Fantasy and Scifi or it could really be classified as Steampunk in some cases. Even though FF8 has a spaceship named Ragnarok. GA? Is that a RP you've created.

Exactly, it's not a lie or spoiling anything if you say that. It really is complicated and it's easily seen. Just the little bit I've seen shows that to me, and the conversations we've had about GA confirm that just as much if not more.

@Landaus Five-One

Pretty much. Final Fantasy is - much like a lot of the good Squaresoft/Square Enix projects - very much a mix of multiple genres, which is one of the reasons why I'm able to get into it -- even if one element doesn't interest me, something else will. GA is pretty much exactly the same in that sense. I like stuff like Cowboy Bebop too, so - like I said previously - I'm hardly 'opposed' to Sci-Fi, but there needs to be more to it.

As for what Guardian Ascension (GA) is, it's my main story project. I've been developing it for decades. Think of it like my life's work; in fact, I often refer to it as a manifestation of my soul, because it's a deeply personal project and is heavily rooted in my philosophy and inspired by a wide range of things that have been enjoyable, interesting, or nostalgic to me. I used to run a few role-playing forums based on it, but I closed them up because they were getting in the way of the work on the project and there was a bunch of issues with some of the members. The main role-play I'm running on this site is loosely connected to it -- part of the multiverse.

You'll likely hear me reference GA a lot, because I'm obsessed with anything I put my passion into. That's actually another reason I'm not committed to joining this role-play just yet, even if I'm considering it, because I'm very much the type of person who either 'gives something his 100%' or 'doesn't bother at all', which means I'd hate the idea of joining something if I wasn't gonna stick with it.

@CrazyShadowy

Yeah, though I'm still confirming the exact date of the thing. Lol.
