@Sylph Okay, drumroll again! Congratulations! Your new power is Telekinesis! A kinetic ability, you can lift objects with your mind! Whoa! There are some catches, however. Currently, you can’t lift anything you couldn’t physically lift, and you can only hold something in the air for 5 minutes. Trying to lift too much at once or holding something for too long will give you nosebleeds, and eventually lead to more catastrophic consequences, so be careful! You can also currently only hold one object at a time. You can also open and close windows, flip pages of books, and even throw things with your mind! With enough training, you can increase your carry capacity, the duration of time you hold an item, and even hold multiple items at once! Wicked!
Marth on his surface can be known to be a very aloof person, when he meets someone new he likes to observe and analyze ones personality before deciding whether or not to interact with them, he can also be blunt at times since he doesn't like sugar coating much at all. It takes a little bit for him to warm up but once he sees you as a friend, he is a loyal one, he will stand up for his friends and himself if they are being troubled by others. When he gets comfortable with someone his friendly side is exposed and he jokes around, laughs, and smiles more, he will always have his friends back and will make sure they are in good condition. Though not inclined to violence, when Marth is angry he tends to black out and will rampage recklessly with little concern for his self. When something is bothering him a lot he will be silent and seclude himself from his friends. Marth is open to trying new things as long as little risk is involved. Despite his childhood he still stays ambitious and has big dreams that he knows he can make reality.
Biography
Being born into an incredibly wealthy and powerful family, the Carter family is a rather dominant family who's main claim to fame is their output of strong and competent mages and familiars who are known for their proficient abilities. Known as a family of mercenaries, they are contracted all over the place for a multitude of tasks.
In his early life his mother passed away while on a bounty, after the passing away of his father grew into a bitter man being a lot more strict towards his children, Marth got it the worst since was the only one out of the 8 who had yet to manifest his ability. His father had set up and tried all kinds of methods to use on his son to awaken his potential but eventually he was running out of patience, soon all the attention Marth had been receiving diminished and shifted over towards his other 7 siblings in order to prepare them to be proficient and competent in the family business.
Marth felt as if it was his fault that he couldn't manifest his ability and felt as if he had to take it on himself in order to reach his potential, as the days went by and his siblings grew stronger, Marth had yet to even begin that path ,they teased, bullied, and made fun of him. He confronted his father and made a final request to him to send him to St. Fortunas Acadrmy for Higher Arts in hopes of waking up the power within, his father accepted but with a catch and that was that Marth would not be inheriting anything from him and that he would have to pay off all the money in the future. Marth abided by the stakes and prepared to attend the Acadeny.
His first year went well but he still hadn't awakened his ability, the second year was right around the corner. Hopefully it will be a different story.

@pkken Just two things, not even real problems. First, with the daddy issue, his dad wouldn't know if Marth was a Familiar or a Mage until he either developed magic or his ability. For all his dad knows, his son could be a mage, and he could be putting him through the wrong training. Most find out if they're a mage or a familiar between the ages of 13-16. Magic starts to manifest weakly at that age, and some early blooming familiars get their powers then. But if he's like, 5 or 8 years old, his dad's training would be useless because you just can't speed up that process.
The next issue is mercenaries. There's not a lot of mercenaries in Prydain. There are adventurers guilds that do mercenary work, though they're consider seedy and less reputable. However, some older ones do wield considerable influence and wealth. If your character's father worked in or was even the head of one of these guilds, that would make much more sense than straight up mercenaries, and would also help tie your character into the world a little more.
Other than that, we can see no problems. Good work! We'll go over your quiz shortly!
@Natsu Good question! If one half of a pair were expelled, dropped out, or transferred schools, the student remaining would likely be matched with an older student without a pair temporarily, until another suitable partner becomes available. Students can transfer into the academy at any point in the year, so students who experience a dropped partner will likely not be on their own for very long. :)
@Invader Lenoh the thing with Mercanaries that's basically what I meant, sorry if it wasn't clear I was falling asleep and waking up while writing , I'll fix it up.
Also thanks for clearing the age at which manifestation happens and everything, I thought it was roughly early at around 8 years of age, will probably change it up.
Would it be possible for Him to be a scholarship student instead?
@Invader Len But the magical contract lasts a year and a day, so wouldn't they be essentially powerless?
The contract does, yes. However, in cases like this, the sacramentum can be dissolved and a new one take its place. So if there were characters A and B and A was expelled, the sacramentum between B and A would be dissolved, and B would have a new sacramentum made with C. Once that new bond is made, B and C now rely on each other for power, instead of A and B.
In the cases where a pair has irreconcilable differences, the sacramentum can also be dissolved and a new pair made. However, this is extremely rare, and only done as a last resort.
I hope this has made more sense. If not, I can always try to clarify again. We’ve made this plan in case people drop out of the RP and leave others without a partner, so it’s not something we haven’t forseen. Players will not be penalized in terms of points or progress if their partner drops, and we will make arrangements for them until a new person fills the slot. For this reason, the Int Chk will always be open and accepting of new people after we launch. :)

It is possible, however, he’ll have to have the grades, drive, and reason to be in the school. If you think you can edit him to have those, that’s fine. If you want to keep his original story though, you could have him the son of the head of a mercenary guild that specializes in mercenary work. Either way, it’s up to you.
Another question, this one pertinent to my sheet. Would there be a profession that's the magical equivalent to an engineer? People who make new spells, or create magical artifacts, or just find new applications of magic in general?
Another question, this one pertinent to my sheet. Would there be a profession that's the magical equivalent to an engineer? People who make new spells, or create magical artifacts, or just find new applications of magic in general?
Yes! There are multiple professions like this! There are mages who study Theoretical magic, looking to study the boundaries and nature of magic and perhaps create new spells. You can consider this field to be akin to theoretical mathematics or quantum physics.
People who devise enchantments for magical items are Enchanters, and their job it to create tools of magical use that can be used by anyone. They generally major in Enchantment in college, and work as artisans, on assembly lines, or as inventors.
Finally, people who search for new applications of magic in general are rather like business men or statisticians, who look for various aspects of life that can be improved by magic and try to develop systems to work in that regard.
These are all excellent questions, thank you for asking them!
@Invader LenYeah I'll just got with the idea you prooposes, I won't be free again to make a story like that for a little while.
That’s fine, edit your CS, and we’ll review your quiz in a moment.
@Lord of Evil, this has been a common issue with many players, but I must state again that all people in the world are mages or familiars. Everyone knows that magic exists. 50% of the population has some form of it. It’s in every aspect of life. It’s not incredibly special.
Also, this seems to be a recurring misunderstanding, but mages and stage magicians are not the same. A Mage is simply anyone with the capability of using magic, while a stage magician is someone who’s dedicated their work to entertainment through illusion. Also, there are no wizards in this world. You are simply a mage.
Lastly, you may be confused as to the very nature of magic. Magic in this world is tied to an element, which a person expresses. Magic cannot create something from nothing, and mages cannot learn new elements of magic. They are forever tied to the element they were born with.
In addition, being a great and powerful mage and getting lots of money do not always happen together. Some people become very wealthy despite having little magical power, while other have magic, but don’t use it at all in their life as adults. Some of the most talented mages are but simple farmers trying to make ends meet. So the two don’t follow each other.
This is just because I’ve seen a lot of stage magic and circus’s being used in this RP, but stage magic would actually be more impressive than regular magic in this world. Regular magic is as normal as air here. It’s useful and sometimes dangerous, but it does not make you special. This is a world where magic and powers are the norm.
For fixing this, I would redo the circus/stage magician backstory to fit with the world, be more specific on why he wants to be a great mage, and remove the wizard part entirely. :)
Here's my mage, Monty! I'm also just about finished with Beatrice's drawing, so that will be up soon.
Name: Montgomery “Monty” Goldberg (Doesn't like being called Montgomery)
Image or Description: Monty is 5’9”, and he claims he’s still growing. He has short blonde hair which is usually combed off to the side, blue eyes and fair skin. He has a fair amount of muscles from athletics, although he couldn’t be considered ‘buff’ yet. He has a scar stretching from just below his nose to his top lip. He prefers to have a clean shaven face. (Will draw picture soon)
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Orientation: Bisexual
Mage or Familiar: Mage
Magic Type: Light. Monty can manipulate light to make non physical structures and to blind people temporarily. The structures he makes can look almost exactly like real objects with enough skill and time. He can manipulate the wave lengths of light to change its color. He can reflect light away from himself to make himself invisible, however this also causes him to be blind due to the light not reaching his eyes. Like almost all other magic, the light already has to exist, he cannot create light.
Known Spells: Summon
Partner:
Personality: Monty is a very caring and kind individual. He is very extroverted, and a people person at heart. He has a very strong need to nurture others and make them happy. He is a very protective person, and will put himself in danger for those he feels a responsibility for, including strangers. He is very serious about his responsibilities, and he is very dependable for advice or just emotional comfort. He is the very essence of a dad friend, complete with bad puns and refusing to look at maps. He gets most of his personal satisfaction from making others happy, and would give the shirt off his back if it meant someone else benefited. He has a very strong sense of justice, and dislikes discrimination of any kind. Monty likes having a plan in place and sticking to strategy, but he is not inflexible. He is a peacemaker, and dislikes arguments or confrontation, although he is not afraid of it. He is warm and sympathetic, and tries his best to cheer people up. He has a habit of seeing the good in most people, but he disagrees with criminal actions very much. He is also very shy and flustered around mature topics or when being flirted with. Monty is not without flaws though. His trust in authority can lead him to be blind to it’s flaws, and his need to help others can lead to manipulation. He’s also a bit of a ‘prude’ at times.
Biography: Monty was born in Maefeld, to Herbet and Batyah Goldberg. His parents raised him and his twin sister, Felicity, in a penthouse in a fairly nice neighborhood. Monty spent most of his childhood sticking to his sister, constantly trying to reassure her of her beauty. He feels incredibly guilty for his sister’s downwards spiral, blaming himself for not doing more to comfort her. He was excited when his sister was able to feel confident with makeup, but he realized that her dependence on it was still ultimately damaging to her self image. He feels helpless in that aspect, as he can’t say anything that will make his sister see herself as others see her. This causes him to be very protective of not only his sister, but others with low self esteem.
He got the scar on his lip when he was 8. He decided that in order to show solidarity to his sister, he should give himself a scar there too. He tried using a rock, and ended up knocking his front teeth out. He got the scar though, so even though he was crying and in pain, he still managed to excitedly show his sister. She was not impressed.
Monty was raised by his parents to be a ‘gentleman’, for lack of a better word. He and his sister were taught about the importance of kindness and politeness, and he takes those teachings to heart. Monty became very interested in the justice system, and decided from an early age he wanted to be a part of it. He dreams of being able to protect people from others and themselves. Monty knew that St. Fortuna’s Academy is the best high school in all of Prydain, and he decided that if he wanted to make a difference in the world he would have to get into St. Fortuna’s. He works very hard to keep his grades up and his record clean. When Felicity decided to enroll with him, he was excited for both of them. This way his sister could flourish, and he would be able to keep an eye on her.
Likes: His sister, making friends and meeting people, sweets (especially chocolate), bad puns, motorcycles, gardening, newspapers, JUSTICE, feminism, helping old ladies across the street, cooking, comic books and dogs.
Dislikes: Crime (he understands that crime has a reason, he does not hate the criminals themselves, unless in situations such as murder and assault), perverts, rude people, oranges, loud smells, getting directions, messiness, and frogs.
Points:
Proficiency: 2
Intelligence: 4
Athletics: 4
Misc.: He disapproves of his sister’s love of bad boys, but will never mention he has a thing for bad boys and girls too. She knows anyway. He has a tendency to call everyone younger than him kiddo, and will scold you for swearing. He let’s his sister practice her make up and/or fashion on him.
Quiz Answers:
What is your character's dream career? Monty’s dream career would be something that involves protecting and giving. Either a police officer or a childcare provider would be best for him.
Your character is caught telling a lie/cheating. How do they react? Monty would be extremely embarrassed. He would freeze, and start blushing and stuttering. He feels that lying makes him a bad person, and would instantly apologize.
Your character finds out someone close to them has been lying to them. How do they react? In his own words, Monty wouldn’t be mad, just disappointed. He’d sit the person down and ask them to be honest with him. He’d express how he wasn’t happy about them lying to him and he wouldn’t forget them, but he would forgive them.
If your character were given $50, what would they do with it? He would immediately go and spend it on someone else. Whether it’s giving it to his friends in need, or taking out someone less fortunate for a meal and shopping, he would do best to pay the kindness back in turn.
Someone close to your character gives them something very important and asks them to hold on to it until they come back. However, your character somehow loses it. What do they do? He would drop everything to find it. He feels a very strong sense of duty towards people and their trust, and would not want to break said trust in him. If the item isn’t found, he would go to the person and be honest, and offer to replace the object or do anything he can to get it returned.
Your character is given the chance to perfect any one talent. What do they choose? He has a deep love for musical instruments, so he would choose to be able to play one that he normally wouldn’t have the chance to. What is your character’s favorite book or movie genre? Why? Monty loves adventure and fantasy, for when he needs a little bit of an escape from stress. He also loves non fiction and documentaries, especially about politics and world issues.
Who does your character admire/look up to? Monty admires his parents, Herbert and Batyah, for being supportive and yet still stern with their children. They’re the ones who raised him to be a polite and respectable young man. He also admires his twin sister, Felicity, for her kind heart and her ability to see the good in everyone.
Wow, this certainly blew up the last time I was here... Guess this means I have to sneak my Character sheet in here before the gate closes~ Does side need more members, cause I don't mind playing as a mage or familiar.
@Invader Len@The Errorist@onenote Just browing through this place, and then BAM!....I run into this interesting and seemingly well-thought-out roleplay idea! XD I am a part of one or two roleplays around here, and tend to be kept busy enough in regards to real life that i try to be careful in joining RP's these days.
Still, in case anything i am currently involved with falls though, if i am able to make the time for another RP like this, or if everything i am involved with currently moves slowly enough or the like, i would like to ask you all a few questions about this lovely roleplay if you three don't mind! :)
1. I see that it is said in the rules it says that:
Do not spam the IC. Wait 10 hours between each of your own IC posts, and let 1-2 people post after you before you post again.
Beyond this, how fast do you all anticipate this roleplay moving? Also, beyond this is there any other sort of "minimum posting limit" you have here, such as "having to post at least once a week" or something of the sort?
2. The lore and info aside being put aside for a moment, what is the concept of this RP in general? For example, a different RP might be summed up conceptually as a "horror RP with some slice of life and romance in it".
3. I must confess that this place has gotten a good deal of posts in a rather short time. Would you, then, possibly be willing to accept someone who can only post once or twice a week?

Awwww, thanks! Now to answer yous questions.
1. Given the large number of people, there will probably be a lot of stuff to read, but I don't think we'll be moving at a breakneck pace. We're going to try to allow people time to do their interactions and stay within the same time frame, and we'll likely be taking this a few days at a time. Some events may take weeks to complete IRL. So while we won't be moving as slowly as some advanced and casual RP's, it will not be very fast. We'll try to find a happy medium. To answer your questions about a posting minimum, there is not any rule like that, no. It is in a play's best interest to post often, to gain more points. In addition, we're going to be lowering the wait limit from 10 hours to 5, after some discussion. I just have to remember to do it.
2. The concept of this RP is a school RP, mainly dealing with slice of life and fantasy elements. There will be events that will have action, as well as puzzles to solve and drama to either enjoy or avoid. Over all, however, this is an RP about coming into adulthood, making meaningful bonds and friendships, and living life in a strange and wonderful world.
3.Yes, we would be willing to accept someone with a slower posting speed. We understand that everyone has different lives, different styles of writing, and varying amounts of free time. So if a person can only post once or twice a week, we would be willing to work out a solution to the dilemma of the point system without that person failing school. Proper backstories, timing of events and posts, and utilizing bonuses can help a person keep up with our exam system.
In addition, this RP will be perpetually open for players to join, though some may have to wait a few days for a suitable spot to jump in after we start. So if you'd like to place your interest here and follow us along, and apply when you feel you may have more time to be comfortable, that's perfectly fine as well. I hope this has answered your questions. :)
