@Natsu well, given it's a cultural thing, it's probably ingrained that the ritual itself is a necessary and important part of your life - on the other hand, the bonding might not be. Thinking about it that way, the sacramentum is pretty much puberty :v

God though, I can't believe some people don't find the bonding horrifying.
I mean, your self is the most personal and private thing about a person, no matter what, you are you. Sharing that with another would be a massive act of trust and probably scary.

It is a massive act of trust. It's tying the souls together. You remain yourself, but you also have another person always with you. Because of this, its not unheard of for certain side effects to happen, such as increased empathy, thought reading, a desire to always be near your partner, separation anxiety, and even dream linking. It’s rare for more than one to happen to a certain pair, but they do occasionally happen.

And as pointed out before, this practice is cultural. It’s as normal here as losing baby teeth or celebrating a bar mitzvah or quincenera. There will be some who are unsure about sharing their soul with another person, but this culture has a profound emphasis on unity. The idea that it is not only healthy, but the natural state of the universe for mages and familiars to be bonded is the deep underlying motif here.

Also, @TheHangedMan, @Hammerman, there’s no need to be hasty, as you all are in the second group. If you’ll re-read the announcement, I ask that those in the second group please wait for everyone in the first group to have a chance to post once. Please be respectful of each other, there’s no race here. : )

Welp, I thought I can at least make Lilac's entrance post, just standing there looking at group one on the podium.

Well, if you ask me to wait, then I'll wait.

Hmm, so could you drive to people insane if you forcibly separated them?. Like, kidnap a pair and keep them on other sides of the country?

@Natsu
Well, not exactly. You’d certain put people at a disadvantage tactically by separating them, as Familiars need to willingly give up their mana to a Mage, which they can only do with the Mage is nearby. And the emotional bonds aren’t quite that destabilizing. Separation anxiety doesn’t work that way at all. If this hypothetical situation did happen to a pair that had strong empathy and separation anxiety, they would definitely feel more anxious, bothered, tense, and upset without their partner. But driven insane? Probably not. Rather, the circumstances of being kidnapped would ultimately prove more damaging than being separated from your partner.

With that being said, Natsu, please do not engage in kidnapping and nazi-esque experiments in torture, it’s very rude and rather unbecoming. :P

The podium has stairs? Welp, RIP Vyvyan 2002-2017. Any ramps and the like, or are we going to see some bridal carrying (with telekinetic aid)?

Will pay to see that. If it actually does happen, I'm going to immortalize the scene in a sketch.

There is a small ramp that has bees prepared for Vyvyan. Because the Sun Room is incredibly old, they can't install permanent ramps in it. However, there is a portable ramp that a staff member will lay out for your character, looking something like this.

In addition, there are elevators installed around the school for staff use, which your character will have a pass to use. So don't worry about winding staircases or the like. Aside from that, there is of course various slopes and ramps throughout the property your character can traverse safely.

So, I just saw the int check for this and came here. Usually I don't like joining in progress RP's but all mine are kinda slow right now and this seems really cool, so is there room for little old me? And do we need more mages or familiars right now? If we're even I rolled a d20 just now and got familiar, so I'd go with that if we don't need more mages

Yes, we do have ample room! We’re very early on in our story right now, and actually we’re short a mage, if you wouldn’t mind making one. I f you submit a CS, my co-GMs and I will review it, and if all is in order, we’ll happily accept you and you can jump right in!
