RP GM: Genkai

RP co-GM: Kenaron

RP genres: Fantasy, Science Fiction and Exploration

RP size: Full but accepting future applicants for temporary roles or replacements

RP post expectations: 4-5 paragraphs once a week

- - - -

General premise:

- The world, like so many others in the universe, has gone through times of war and peace. Currently a comforting blanket of peace protects the world from its past conflicts and petty differences. The world is made up several kingdoms and yet at the moment, there is very little to complain about, very little to fight about. Magic flows freely through the world and most anyone with the time and effort, is able to wield it through various means such as runes, spells or potions/tonics. In the world there are many talents ranging from cooking to painting, to even juggling or knife throwing. Many myths depict a goddess named Aquis created the world that everyone calls home. It is a world where water covers 75% of the sapphire and emerald sphere. Most folks make money via fishing, sailing or diving. There are many islands, both big and small around the world where people make pleasant lives for themselves.

- As the sun rises on another blissful day, six white sleek egg-shaped pods descend downwards. At first glance they would appear to be randomly scattered throughout the world and yet the ones who dispatched them, have a method to their madness. These pods have intentionally crossed paths with people who have strong mortals, a good heart and mind. When they approach the pod's door slides open to reveal textures and lights never seen before. The seat is made of alien fabric, soft to the touch but once one runs a finger along it, it becomes somewhat rough like fish scales. The pods whisk away six strangers and send them into a stasis or forced sleep. When the half-dozen awaken, fifteen years have passed and their world appears to have been destroyed. Questions arise as to where they are and why they were taken...or saved.

- Why is their home gone and how did it happen? Where will they go now? The ship they are now on calls for a small crew to take the bridge and continue traveling deeper into space. The six individuals must band together to uncover the many secrets surrounding their new lives. Despite being in a new environment, it seems magic still works and it also seems other forms of magic are being uncovered. The group must find a new home, find new allies and evade any threats that they come across.

About the Ship:

The ship is very sleek and agile. It is called The Flock. In large main area are different labs for experiments and data collection. There are also six large private quarters for the six occupants of The Flock. There is a bridge, bar, high tech gym, kitchen, holodeck, digital library/records room, fabricated tropical pool, and other nifty features. Along the spine of The Flock, is where the six have been in stasis. The end of the tail itself is solid, meant to act like a sword slicing through enemy ships.

Character creation:

- We will be playing fantasy tropes/stereotypes but at the same time the character shouldn't be a parody or mockery. The character has to be seriously crafted and handled. While this is meant to be a bit silly and whimsical in terms of tone, the character should have dreams and desires, should be well-rounded.

- Because fantasy and science fiction are coming into play, a character needs to be made to translate into a science fiction role. For example, a cleric who heals would be expected to take the role of medical officer/doctor. The loyal hero or wise mage would be expected to take the role of a first officer to work alongside the captain and offer advice. Someone quick their their reflexes would perhaps be suited to pilot the ship's controls. Think about both genres and how what talents would blend well together.

- Please give your character substance, characters fall on hard times but they also don't need to be haunted by bad luck forever. If your character has lost a love one, ask yourself if it's really necessary. Most of the time I find it isn't, and tends to never be mentioned by a character or consumes their entire mind and prevents them from being useful. If your character has a combat skill, truthfully gauge their talent on how much they have practiced, give them weaknesses and strengths. This isn't a combat heavy story but being prepared won't hurt.

- Interact with characters, let flirtation happen, let disagreements happen. These are strangers in a very stressful situation, characters will bond with some but have a tougher time with others. That said, the group still must function as a unit and for any unruly loner types who cause trouble, well I'm sure jettisoning a pod into space would be an easy solution to problematic characters.

- Other species/races like elves etc, may be allowed, just run it by me first and have a picture ready for me to look at since I'm sure if I Googled an elf, it would yield different results. Just make sure we're on the same page before you get ahead of yourself. I don't want many different races because this story isn't about that but about something bigger and I don't want a character to be defined by their appearance or whatever reactions it causes.

Character Sheet:

- Below is the coded CS, it's meant to be fairly quick and a bit silly, as I know it gets boring filling out the same CS over and over again. Please copy and paste this and post it in the OOC tab. When you have finished your sheet, tell me and I'll give you the green light to transfer it to the CS tab. I think appearances are important, hence the formatting, our IC will also have some formatting codes when it comes to skipping ahead and such. Since I have time on my hands, I have started to dust off my Photoshop program and will be making graphics for this RP. Do try to find high quality pictures for your character. I have my own CS finished in the CS tab, take a gander at what the end product should look like. Happy creating!

Closing remarks:

- I am hoping this is something we can get started rather quickly. I am still seeking a co-GM and that person would help keep things moving should I need to take a couple days off. The co-GM would get some kind of character perk we could discuss like a special item or skill or something like that.

- The way I tend to run group RPs is by rounds. A round begins with a post made by myself once I have posted, anyone can post whenever they want but they can only post once. This does make things a bit slow but I'd rather not people get left behind. Once everyone has posted within a timely manner, I'll post again and a new round begins. I have not yet decided if I want to use this system or not. It depends if I get five people or more or less. If you have input on the matter, I want to hear your opinion. I've run RPs with and without it but it does depend on those involved.

- I also offered to GM two small scale RPs and to bring them together after a while. Again, this depends on the comfort of those applying and participating. If you want a group of six or just a group of three or four, let me know.

- Lastly, this RP is about having fun. The OOC should be just as fun. I expect people to communicate and plot together. Considering the openness of this story, I expect input from fellow players. I don't GM with an iron fist unless posts are slow to come. Let's have fun and create something cool together.

- If you have any questions, ask em here. I wanted to keep things fairly basic so we could get things rolling sooner, rather than later. And if you have any input on a posting order or using rounds or neither, let me know. And if you'd want a small RP as opposed to a medium sized one, otherwise I'll just make those choices myself.

- Once we get into space, I will be editing this with information on the ship and nearby planets we can decide to check out.

Kenaron Mostly Harmless Neighbour

Member Seen 7 yrs ago

Appearance:

Personality:

- Bold - Caring - Optimistic - Impulsive -

Name:

- Kiana -

Age:

- 27 -

Origin:

- Kiana comes from a small city known simply as Twin River Pass, located between the two major affluents to the Lord's River. The town was originally structured as a circle, with the rivers being its tangents, but eventually the town grew larger and larger, and the expansion lead to a triangular city, with multiple bridges to both sides of the rivers and a huge fishing community. Kiana lived all of her life in that city, sometimes dreaming of travelling far and wide, and sometimes enjoying the place like there was nothing else. The first, though, only grew with the years, and after serving as a River Hand (the City Watch of Twin River Pass), she decided to follow the call for adventure, and eventually, at age 22, bid farewell to her parents. She constantly writes letters to them whenever she can find a time and a place. -

Life:

- When she left home to the adventure and the lands from faraway tales, she made her mind to live on her own. At the young age of 15, she had helped countles times to prepare dinners and foods; by 19, she could fully skin almost any animal, through and through, and was always on the lookout in the forest for some tasty animal. Her father had teached her how to use the bow and arrow, and had taught her the ins and outs of hunting. During her time as a River Hand, she became more and more proficient in cooking and in hunting, and all of those things come into play now that she's on the road. She typically hunts her own food, but can also strike up a deal with some inn or locals, teaching them recipes or providing them with fresh meat in exchange for a roof over her head. Most of the time she waits for morning to move out of the city once more, saying propper goodbyes to everyone she has come to talk, and asking for directions to cities or landmarks, to start the adventure once again. -

Talents:

- Hunting -

- Acrobatics -

- Survival expert -

- Nature knowledge. -

Flaws:

- Homesick -

- Doubtful -

Combat:

- Her time as a City Watch teached her everything she needs to know to get by, she has a masterful aim with the bow, and knows enough swordplay to defend herself, but is always on the lookout for opportunities to run and shoot. Though able to manage and intimidate people, she's never killed a man, and she thinks it's something too dire to do. -

Liking it! Thank you for stating your posting and progression expectations outright. I want to say I can get a character up by Friday, at the latest? But I'm thinking I might actually go for a 'dark lord' sort of character along the lines of Ganon.

@Kenaron Caring and thoughtless to me seem fairly opposing. I would like you to change one of those, perhaps snarky instead of thoughtless? Or maybe realist? (as opposed to an optimist or pessimist?) Other than that small issue, it looks good to me, I think you were able to pull my interest with Kiana's backstory and assets, very well done with the creative aspect!

@Juicy Friday works for me, no worries there! Someone with more nefarious skills would be acceptable though a few thoughts to keep in mind, dark magic (if you're going that route) isn't something we'll uncover until we get deeper into outer space. And characters can have spotty backgrounds or who are paid killers for instance are fine, but at their core they should still be fairly good. If the world were to end I doubt we'd save evil folks above the nice guys. XD But say someone who makes deadly potions and sells them to make a living for their sick companion, would be an example.

Oh, wait, my answe was never sent!

@Genkai thanks a lot for the praise, man, I had the idea of integrating the borrowed town of Twin Rivers from a gae I've played (Kingdom Rush, superb tower defense), and my town that is literally built between two rivers. The idea for the story came all natural, right in the moment.

Regarding the traits, I've put Caring as in "she really cares about people around her and the impact she has on their lives" and thoughtless as "acts quickly based on what she thinks in the moment, without taking a moment to fully analize the situation" but I'll look for more accurate wording, if you say so.

Also, I had already made this answer, but the site thought "let's not keep this answer" and it's suddenly not around anymore.

It's definitely a pretty picture you painted in a compact manner, well done. You created a slice of the world which was exactly what I want players to have fun. And would 'rash' be a better word for what you're looking for? Or perhaps impulsive?

@Genkai yes, yes, impulsive will fit perfectly! 'll go edit it right away. As for optimistic, I'd rather keep it like optimistic, you could even see it as the opposite of realistic in a way, like she always hopes for the best, even if things seem to go awry.

@Genkai "Dark magic" wouldn't happen to incorporate necromancy, would it? Perhaps in some limited interpretation?

Necormancy would be okay, if that's what you're going for. My idea of dark magic is more literal dark matter haha.

Aha! Necromancy it shall likely be, then. For some reason, I'm steadfast on a goofy skeletal lad so I'll likely join as a spoopy bard with a flame or musical aesthetic. I'm just starting to get accustomed to making on-the-fly characters again; general idea for what I'd like to play based on the universe/who might be an interesting foil for any existing characters plus cool image might equal the inspiration that I need? I'm experimenting at this point but can at least say I'm starting to fill out my sign-up!

@Juicy good luck! I always make my characters on the fly, and if you're like me, you'll do marvelous and lackluster works. Sometimes inspiration is right there and some others is miles away.

@Juicy Your idea sounds good to me! I hope you have success with bringing your vision to life! I tend to have a few ideas, go image hunting and figure out which seem to match up and tickle my fancy the most.

So if you have space I might make a dwarf sailor druid/cleric character for this. or more of an inverse dwarf. you'll see what I mean.

This concept sounds great. A lot of explore, quite an intriguing premise and I can see things getting really interesting as the story progresses. Haven't been on the site a lot, only active in a single 1x1 RP which gets a post every couple of months. But this piqued me interest, so I would love to give it a try.

I have a concept of a character on my mind, but I'll be able to write it up tomorrow, if that's okay? :)

Appearance:

Personality:

- Aspiring - Cheerful - Adaptable - Single Minded -

Name:

- Viktor Picton -

Age:

- 30 -

Origin:

- Viktor hails from a town known as Iron Haven, the name was given after the local hills found seems of iron and coal ore. To be more productive it was colonized and now is a popular trade route for the kingdoms. As the men delve  deeper into the ground other minerals were discovered, however much of the produce found is carted away for use in the cities in exchange for food, supplies even military defence.
This was where he was brought up, his father a miner and his mother a cook. Viktor takes after his father primarily strong and well built, from his mother finding the good in all things. In his adolescence he took up the job as an apprentice blacksmith helping the men smelt the ores down so they could be forged into bars before being shipped to the larger cities. As he grew up he became adept in smithing all manner of items from weapons and armour to tools, he had a knack of forging items for practical use. Things that had never been designed before, this however lead to jealousy amongst others and a meticulous nature within Viktor for good or bad.
At the age of 25 Viktor found himself at a plateau being stuck in this town with no aims so he gathered some wears and left his family following a caravan along a trade route to these fabled giant cities hoping adventure would lead him to a better well being -

Life:

- Viktor now works as a free lance smithy learning more skills with each smithy he works alongside. There's always something that needs to be fixed, maintained or newly forged leaving him with ample work, some he does for free in barter for a room and board. The job allows him to meet all sorts of people and stories of their adventures and settlements they have visited. With so much time by the forge it isn't without its hazards, through his time concentrating up close his eyes have slowly deteriorated when it comes to distance. Viktor can still see colours and shapes but the outline is always blurry. Also during his training Viktor unfortuneately misconstrued his hand for the metal thus hammering his index and middle finger, lucky it caught the tips which he lost rather than the entirety.
Viktor keeps a note of each dwelling he has lived and the one he wishes to visit. When the time is right and the want to see more if world envelopes his body he finishes his contracts bids farewell to the residences and makes way. He usually tags along with shipments and caravans for safe passage being another make shift guard but also able to make repairs if need be. With each movement from city to city it isn't always smooth sailing, bandits, mercenaries and pirates to name a few always wanting their take. With these problems Viktor carries with him a two handed warhammer for defence rather than offence, he is no hero that bards would create songs over however due to his size and strength he does cast a slight intimidation amongst some foes. Luckily his travels hasn't seen many fights that others would relish upon but it has never deterred him from continuing his journey gaining more skill as a smithy and ticking off the list of cities to visit. -

Talents:

- Smithing -

- Repairing -

- Strength -

- Endurance -

Flaws:

- Overally Trustworthy -

- Finicky -

Combat:

- Viktor has his two handed warhammer which benefits with his strength and power to overcome foes however without any training he lacks military precision or discipline even dexterity and finesse also weilding a two handed weapon can lead him to leaving himself open. Due to his size he is rather slow with his actions but still intimidating with his large strikes. He will only draw his weapon when attacked or to defend his friends -

@GenkaiSo, I have a bit of an involved question that has more to do with the part of the setting I'm creating than the character directly (Although indirectly has a pretty big impact for him, especially in regards to the culture and history of the part of the world he grew up in).

Essentially, while this is a mixed fantasy setting where I assume tech is going to more or less be all over the place (For the world they started on) are metal ships a widespread technology? Particularly in regards to nations and their navies.

On another note: since the character is obviously going to be involved with a navy: Do you want a character with leadership experience to be off limits/reserved for GM and co-GM access? So as to avoid one character assuming control of the group almost by default.

@Snagglepuss89 I would err on the side of caution and think that it's medieval tech from where they are from, so ships and stuff should be wooden and stuff. But the keyword here is think, because I'm no GM.

Mmm, for some reason I remember guns being mentioned in the Interest Check (They're not) which made me debate "All right, well what technology does this fantasy setting have?" Looking back, there's nothing to suggest it isn't Early Middle Ages tech.

Appearance:

Personality:

- Wanderlust - Good-natured - Daring - Impulsive -

Name:

- Andrik Nordin -

Age:

- 105 (which is about 30 in human years) -

Origin:

- Long ago some great long forgotten cataclysm destroyed all the dwarf surface cities on their home island, the only dwarfs that survived are the ones who fled to the deep, in tunnels that took generations to excavate they survive what befell those above. Many are still there, living simple lives tending to underground farms from the light of magma. but some, some wanted to be free, to regain the surface. Over many generations knowledge turned to faith, faith that there was a land further up where there were no cavern walls, where a great ball of magma sat in the ceiling and gave its light across the entire world. A thousand years later dwarfs walked dazed into the sunlight, emerging from the ruins of their former capital city, dropped to their knees and praised the sun.

And they took to their new found freedom with vigor, becoming travelers, journeying till they reached the ocean, learning the art of sailing from the humans and then just kept going. There are therefore a trail of dwarf types: those that still dwell in the dark, those that reached the sun and retook their homes, those that travel the land and finally those that took to the ocean. Many dream of the sky. Our dwarf is one of the sea.-

Life:

- Andrik was born in the later days of the ascension, he learned the art of druidry down in the dark, with his bestial forms he assisted with the digging upwards and fending off the monsters that came to disturbed their holy work. Then he and his family breached the surface and began their travels till they reached the sea. For a people who had scrounged for every drop deep below such an expanse was enrapturing, the ability to travel so far so fast on ships a boon to their freedom. His family became sailors and traders as he learned the creatures of the salty air, the clear waters and the abyssal depths.

While some were content to stay in one group of islands or one trade route Andrik roamed far and wide, using his shape shifting to spend time away from people and explore places where they couldn’t go or acting as a guard, merchant or navigator on trade craft traveling to lands far away. He has become that seldom seen uncle who sometimes shows up out of the blue with gifts from far away lands for his nieces and nephews-

Talents:

- Sailing -

- way-finding -

- brewing -

- bartering -

Flaws:

- hates being confined -

- turns to Alcohol when stressed. -

Combat:

- Andrik has done quite a bit of fighting over the years, first against monsters from the deep as a young dwarf and later against pirates or aggressive sea creatures, though these events where more uncommon. In all these things he has the tactic of a beast, be big and scary and if you must fight hurt your enemies till they get it in their heads that it’s a good idea to run. There is little finesse, either be big and scary, fast and vicious or flee to find some lads to help you with the problem.

Druid Shapeshift: up to about the size of an orca and down to the size of a bat. Only gains physical attributes and not magical, if he turned into a basilisk he couldn’t turn people to stone but he would be big scary snake. Similarly turn into a magically or psychically gifted race does not let him use their skills.
Shape changing is almost instant but rapid shifting is tiring and depending on how tired (or drunk) he is he might not get the right shape. Injuries persist from one form to the next. Can turn into creatures from the sea and the underground, into Domesticated animals and can lean new forms through study of specimens-
