@LostBrotherGrimm That would be fine. And I know the feeling, my own 1x1s are a bit slow so I know how it feels to want to have more incentive to log on regularly.

@Snagglepuss89 No, things would be much more rustic, no guns or anything tech like that. @Kenaron was correct in that regard. This is a very traditional fantasy setting though on the ship there will be more options for fancy gadgets.

@DracoLunaris Interesting, I like him. I thought I'd have an issue with shape shifting but it seems like it's not overpowered which is good. And so you'd say he's mostly fighting with his fists or anything he finds around him? Like due to his skill as a shapeshifter, he doesn't carry a weapon? I'm just clarifying my train of thought here, I'd probably prefer he not have one but I'm double checking.

@GingerBaron Regarding your PM I could keep your character in stasis until your return. Before that you would need to make your introduction post though. I like your character has a trade that's useful, I like that he's not much of a fighter. However I would like to see some faults. He seems almost too good with his craft. Or at least when it comes to fighting or moving, is he slow? I'd expect someone who smiths so much and is around such smoke/hazards, he might have some kind of lung issue or maybe a hand injury or anything? And what did you mean by him being finicky? Can you give an example?

Appearance:

Personality:
- Emphatic - Spontaneous - Vibrant - Rebellious -

Name:
- Eli -

Age:
- 25 -

Origin:
- Eli grew up in a modest town, not too small, yet not too big either; a community always bustling with activity, with spirited young people and a plethora of activities and festivals to enjoy. Indeed, the culture surrounding the town of Acrine was a highly festive one, with people all around the island often visiting to take part in one of the various festivities. It was a town with a little something for everyone. Such culture did a lot to influence Eli to become the spontaneous, vigorous person that he is today, but his family had also taught him to be caring and kind to those in need. And having a three years younger sister to take care of, Eli taught himself how to be unforgiving to any bullies. And wooers alike. He was the big brother after all.

Eli learned first hand what it means to take care for someone and with his parents being researchers that travelled around the world - he had to learn some of the essentials, especially the fine art of cooking.

When he was ready, and old enough, they left the care of his sister to him, trusting that he would know how to be the patriarch of their household. He had no resentment for them going away to work, as they were providing for the two of them and kept in contact. Besides, he was taught from early age that people should follow their dreams and do what they love. Even if it means that sometimes it is against what the majority is doing.

Around that time, Eli met a group of boys his age, soon finding out that true friendship is indeed an irreplaceable gift. They were a bit of rascals, doing things their own way. Having to run away from bigger kids or authorities (Eli: "only those two times!") led towards Eli becoming a skilled acrobat, combining stunning feats combined with a great stamina. As the years had passed, and they became more mature, Eli took the role of a leader of their little group. He didn't want to nor taught that he is the right person for the job, but the others were too hotheaded for their own good sometimes. He was the calmest of them. And was always rallying his friends not to give up on their dreams, without losing that signature smile on his face. Never once showing a sign of resignation.

In hindsight, his sister and his friends made him the person that he is today. The love he has for them sometimes so fierce that he would go against the status quo just for their sake. -

Life:
- There is little that Eli refuses to do, especially if it helps other people. Since he was quite an athlete in his hometown, Eli loved providing carrier services to the townsfolk. It was much easier for him to deliver something than an old grandma or grandpa. He felt their struggle and was obliged to help. Something from within had tugged him to do it. Besides, being able to run around town, jumping over obstacles and testing himself to reach one side of the town faster each time, without being on the wrong side of the authorities - it was amazing. The rush of adrenaline and the feeling of fresh air in his lungs was always a joy.

When he was not running, he had plenty of time to sit down and have a hearty meal with his friends; often drinking, eating and hanging out 'till late in the night, dreaming of the future and all the potential that they have in them. Who knows what the future holds for them. They didn't, but it didn't stop them from dreaming. -

Talents:
- Keen Reflexes -
- Calming People Down -
- Cooking -
- Acrobatics -

Flaws:
- Over-analyses situations (sometimes introvertly, mostly out loud) -
- Afraid of the sea (or what lurks within) -

Combat:
- Ah, yes - fighting. The pinnacle of what makes a person, the stepping stone to adulthood, the centre of all that is and will be. Eli clearly remembers the time he singlehandedly repelled ten thugs from a young boy in trouble. It was a showcase of skill, finesse and elegance as he danced around the narrow street, knocking them out one after one. All fifteen of them were no match to the grea-

Such and similar stories became a mainstay around Eli's friends. As Eli was never much of a fighter, nor wished to provoke anyone, his friends had instead began teasing him by retelling all of his peaceful outcomes into epic stories of battle, pride and testosterone.

In reality, Eli never had much use from fighting, there were a couple of tense situations in his childhood when one of his more hot-headed friends provoked the other group of, more often than not, older kids. They had a few true altercations, but in most cases, it was mostly up to Eli to straighten things out; calm his friend and talk the other group down. He never truly needed to fight, as his relaxed nature was greeted fairly well by other people. Nor did he wish to, what was the point in fighting someone if he was able to talk and laugh with them instead? -

@Genkai Im glad you like the character, I put him at such a high level of smithing as in my head he started at 18 and has travelled to various smiths to gain extra skills. For some faults how about due to working with his hands and up close he is short sighted and on his left hand he has lost the tips of his index and middle finger due to being absent minded and hammering them instead of the piece being crafted. For fighting I would say he is slow, he aims for huge hits which always leaves him open if he doesnt hit his mark especially with a two handed weapon.
Finally him being finicky for me means that he sometimes loses track of the bigger picture he over complicates things when they should be simple. For example of a piece of armour, the person may just want a quick fix to cover the crack but he wants to make the piece even as if there never was a crack. Maybe taking to much time can lead to frustration on some of his clients parts?

yes, I was thinking of shifting being his main combat method, why have lots of armor and weapons when you can turn into a giant spider, horse, shark etc. the answer of coarse is fighting in small spaces vs skilled opponents, which are problems he has never had to face before so those should be interesting problems if/when they happen. As for carrying weapons I was thinking he would have a knife and small hatchet (can't have a dwarf without an ax) but that these are more tools (chopping firewood, gutting fish, etc.) and wouldn't be used in fights.

Appearance:

Personality:

Loving - Determined - Positive - Cocky

Name:

'The Radiant Bat' Kalani'mai Aliʻi (Previously, Jacques Killhelm)

Age:

21

Origin:

When he set off to sail the mighty seas, Jacques Killhelm envisioned discovering mighty uncharted lands of paradise, floating troves of treasure, and plenty of swashbuckling derring-do. Jacques Killhelm did not expect the ship he saved up to buy since he was 15 to be almost instantly destroyed in a tempest. He did not expect to float at sea for a week, desperately clutching at a wooden plank to stay afloat. He most certainly didn't expect to drift into an island surrounded by lethal spikes, and narrowly avoid a swift death by these spikes. Perhaps what Jacques least expected was to find an island filled with tribal natives who received him as a god among men. You see, there was no way for Jacques to expect that the very island he crashed on happened to worhship a demigod who looked eerily similar to Jacques himself. Though he grew up in Twin River Pass, he became a man in Kalani'mai.

Life:

After his dramatic entrance on the isle (and performing a couple 'miracles' with the limited magic he knew), Jacques was lifted up to the position of Ali'i, leader of the tribe. The islanders all believed him to be their patron demigod, so he was looked to for guidance and wisdom. With no ship and no way to build a new craft capable of traversing the spikes around the island, Jacques had no choice but to go along with it (though he certainly wasn't complaining). Jacques used brute force and magic to fix the islanders problems, and in return, the islanders provided him everything he needed. Eventually, Jacques spent enough time on the island to where he eventually began to believe he truly was the demigod as much as the islanders did.

...

"The night is dark and cold my friend. Get indoors, and The Radiant Bat will take care of the scary monsters." Spoke the young man clad mostly in body paint. He gave the child to whom he was speaking a brief pat on the head, before standing up from his kneel and pivoting in one swift motion. With a snap of his fingers, the wooden torch in his hand flared up with a bright light, revealing before him the grimaced visage of a massive boar. A sharp laugh broke the silence, followed by the gruesome crunch of breaking bones...
When The Radiant Bat awoke, it was to the lovely scent of cooked boar-flesh. He stepped out through a curtained doorway to see some of his mortals gathered around a fire, merrily feasting on the carcass of the beast slain last night. The Bat swaggered up to the group, clapping his hands on the backs of two of the men.
"Ti'pina, Ti'Kuta, how is the meat? I've heard it's got quite a bite." He said with a sharp bark of a laugh. The men laughed along, and one offered him a plate with a slab of heavily spiced boar meat.
"Will you eat with us, my Radiance?" Ti'Kuta asked, moving slightly to open a place by the fire.
"I've told you, please, call me Ali'i. No need for all that formality." The Bat said with a mockingly critical tone, before his face shifted to a somber expression. "But, I'm afraid I can't join you. The torches to the North need lighting, or the village will be vulnerable to more of this." He said, vaguely gesturing to the giant pig carcass. He smiled and clapped his hand on Ti'Kuta's shoulder when he saw the man's expression fall. "Next time, Ti'Kuta, we will feast together. Next time."

Talents:
- 1 -
Survival- From finding his way through the jungle to creating meals from what he can scavenge, The Radiant Bat is extremely skilled at adapting to harsh environments and thriving in them.

- 2 -
Morale- When serving as god to thousands of people, one develops a way with words. The Radiant Bat is no different, and has proved himself a grand leader time and time again.

- 3 -
Deceit- It is no simple task to convince an entire island that one is a demigod with tremendous powers, sent by the gods above to lead the people. It is even more difficult to convince oneself of this. The Radiant Bat is more than capable of applying this skill in everyday life.

- 4 -
Finer Things- Perhaps more of a hobby than the others, but The Radiant Bat has always had a talent in art. From ornate tattoos to carving temple walls with images of his 'deeds' he has done for the people, The Bat is both passionate and skilled at his work.

Flaws:

- 1 -
The Darkness- It's no coincidence that The Radiant Bat carries a torch with him at all times. Something about the darkness gets under his skin, to the point where he will shut down completely if in total isolation from the light.

- 2 -
Fire in the Eyes- The Radiant Bat spends days on ends staring into fires, for meditation or simply to light them. So much exposure to flame has scarred his eyes permanently. The Radiant Bat can see about sixty feet out before everything becomes a blur to him.

Combat:

The Radiant Bat has proven himself in combat time and time again. One part natural talent, one part a body weathered by a harsh environment, and a splash of magic makes him a force to be reckoned with in a fight. His mastery over magic is rather minor -he only knows one spell, which allows short bursts of extremely quick and powerful movement. He uses this in combat to make his punches hit that much harder, his jumps go that much higher, etc. While his raw force makes him a monster, his finesse lacks. Used only to fighting feral animals and the occasional tree, The Radiant Bat has no technique. All he knows is to bite and claw and punch until the other one isn't moving anymore. Though his combat style is extremely vicious, he exhibits restraint on sentient creatures: he has yet to take the life of any thinking being, and he will refuse to do so even when presented with no other options. He is especially bad at dealing with bladed weapons -he never could quite get the hang of their use, and anyone using them in a fight would surely win.

Hi, may I join?

I see this is a discovery/investigative kind of roleplay and so if you don't mind, I've made a character that has purposely been simplified to allow for more flexibility in character developement.

I must say though, the premise is what caught my eye and it has been a long time since we've had a jolly good mystery.

Cheers!

Man, @Genkai has a lot of fun to come back to.

@Juicy, did you just say Necrodancer? I love that shit, man. Also, seems like a great character, the first necromancer bard that I've come across. Nice job!

@LostBrotherGrimm Interesting character, almost feels a little too modern for the setting but hopefully it works in the IC (like with the Ultimate Frisbee thing, parkour etc). I think the parents wouldn't have the term "scientists" but more "researchers" since I don't think the world even has a concept of "science" itself. And parkour wouldn't be much of a thing either though it could be changed to acrobatics. Other than those two tweaks, he looks good to me.

@GingerBaron If you edit those things to your CS, you're free to post it in the CS tab.

@DracoLunaris Alright, just as long as you've got some balance with him, you're also free to post him in the CS tab.

@Binary Reign A different character, I can see some comedic charm but I'm going to have to mull over it a bit more.

@Juicy Hey, I wasn't keeping a stopwatch so no worries (mostly because I spent most of last night moaning in pain because my stomach wanted to secede from the rest of my body) /siiiigh but anyway you've got an interesting character. All of you folks got interesting ones, I feel so lame. :/ But anyway he looks good...though I would prefer another picture of him, something less artsy/cartoonish and something more (I hate to say it, such cringe) anime ish? I know it's a tall order to find something to your liking when everyone in Google Search looks like they're 10-15 years old and overly emo/cute. But I would need a better visual of your fab character. Would that be doable?

@71452K I have no idea why, might be the picture but I got a very Wolverine vision. Overall I think he'd be good, two tweaks I'd bring up though would be to maybe nix his amnesia? Considering he's about to be subjected to a big life change it might be a bit much. Maybe if you wanted to say he has issues with short term memory occasionally? Or I'd ditch it entirely. And like above, I'd like to see a bit better of a picture of possible even if it might just be a headshot? Something hand drawn is a bit hard for me to visualize.

@Kenaron Nooo kidding lol

@Kenaron Aww thanks. :)

It's a stupid mixture of muscle pain/spasms that come fairly infrequently but when they do, it fucking sucks. Last time I went to the ER and got some muscle relaxers and anti-inflammability stuff but now I'm uninsured (about to get insurance, thanks Medi-Cal!) I just have to curl up and hope I'm not dying sooner than I'd like. XD

Glad to know its not a constant stupid pain, but instead comes as much as it goes. Good luck with that!

Edit: OMG MY HUNDREDTH POST! I'M SO HAPPY, I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE IN THIS ROLEPLAY, IN THIS FORUM, IN THE INTERNET AT LARGE AND IN THE REST OF THE WORLD!!!!11!!!!!

Better image, lessen the amnesia. Got it. I'm not sure how to get a better image though because this is quite literally a random image of something I don't even recognize (it's not in the googles of wolverine either lol). But I'll try sharpen the image?

Should be done in 1 days time :).

Anyway, do take care of yourself. It sounds like something I used to go through when I had G.E.R.D (gastroesophegeal reflux disease), very nasty stuff that went undiagnosed for over a year. Sabotaged my senior highschool semesters.

@Genkai Only issue is with the picture?

The reason I chose something so stylized in the first place was because it... had style; it wasn't just the anime look that I personally believe has become too passé amongst roleplayers especially to convey any real personality. Of course, art style only really matters within a visual medium. I don't see the purpose in spending extended effort on a face claim that offers a "proper visualization"; the point is to write the character, isn't it?

I can provide a prose sample of how I'd depict Anastasium physically if you'd like. I won't go searching for another image.

@Genkai Likewise, I also won't mind writing a description of my character to improve your visualization as @Juicy mentioned. It's rather much easier than trying to find an ani-version of an image I have no idea of the original character.

I have edited, lessened the amnesia (removed it from flaw and replaced it with something else actually) and given a verbal description of the impression he is usually given. In addition to other minor details.

This will change as they find articles of clothing, discover their place in the world and generally figure out wtf is going on.
