I just don't see how the US military vanishes the way the gm makes it sound like it does. All those assets are still out there and since you have players with control of states like texas or california access to US military assets should be more common than the GM makes it sound like.

I suspect it's a asymmetrical situation as I just don't see why some players wouldn't have access to jets, helicopters, ships and tanks. The situation isn't apocalyptic (no nuclear war between America and China occurred after all) and the US has tons of energy resources even if global trade has collapsed which it likely did as China is probably a pariah state over the destruction of the worlds orbital infrastructure and the global economy tanking is just inevitable in this situation.

True, but a large part of what was the American military was either in active deployment or already posted overseas. Roughly a third of the US armed forces serve overseas and the deterioration of the political climate at home would leave them at limbo or abandoned. It might be presumed it'll be difficult to recall them, or incapable of doing so. And with a large body of the US military also technically 'at float' in the Pacific a lack of satellite communication would cut them out too.

Further, civil conflict on this scale doesn't exactly invite economic activity. As is the case of countries going through civil war trade tends to avoid the country and to go around it directly. Systems of checkpoints at the edge of each faction's territory would create too much red tape and the chaotic situation would no doubt lead to corruption among any group, given that many factions may not be able to pay to keep pace with the devolving situation. Financial sectors like New York would be thrown into chaos with the region taken over by basically monarchist homeless people so any funds held by banks or private savings would have been wired over to Europe. So even if US military assets reached home its doubtful any group would be able to use all of it. Like with the battleships we have "saved" from WW2, carriers and large warships would be mothballed and set aside until someone can actually afford the upkeep and staffing requirements.

I am contemplating being Oathkeepers or some radical group of that nature.

I just think there are people severely overestimating the military capabilities and ideological projection capabilities of other countries here. The US is still military super power here. A humilating defeat trying to invade a country whose military philosophy was built on guerrila warfare from the days of Mao onward doesn't make the US military which has bases literally all over the world magically vanish.

Blowing up a couple super carriers and satellites doesn't mean a country with a global military hegemony suddenly loses that edge. The worst case scenario is a loss of our military activity in East Asia due to being rebuffed by China. The US military is like 6-10x more expansive than the next largest military. The power balance is very lopsided... Intervening in the civil war of a super power would be a massive, massive gamble for any foreign force.

Also does the US international military still carry out operations even if the domestic situaiton has collapsed? I mean, they are likely without their CiC to set an agenda but they're still likely out there. A military without a country and all that.

I should point out that the USA is NOT defunct. The Federal Government does still control a large portion of the military, and overseas forces still exist. There is technically still a war against China and North Korea, but it's mostly being fought by Japan since there isn't much left in the way of homeland support for American troops. Obviously, the government is trying to bring back as many troops as possible since the situation is severe enough that they might as well have been invaded (I mean, there ARE Chinese backed forces on the Gulf Coast).

For the government, the problem is that they simply couldn't fight the rebellions with the loyal forces they had left on the continent. If the minds of humanity weren't being radically changed by the unseen force of the mysterious beings known as "Online Play-By-Post Roleplayers", then the government could have just mobilized the national guard and called reservists up if necessary (and China probably wouldn't have Kessler'd it up). Here, though, there's rampant desertion among those same forces. The objective of the government right now is to consolidate the loyal forces and get a pushback going before the rebels start to get solid control over their territories.

I'd also like to ask everyone if they're willing to give up some territory to the feds, since we're filling up quicker than I expected and there isn't much room left for the poor fucks.

@Keyguyperson

When will this game be started?

Tomorrow or Monday. IC will be open around then, but I'll only post after Thursday because that's when I have my math final and if I don't get a B on that then I fail the class.

I already surrendered Idaho so I'm not sure I can really give up anymore land... However if need be and no one else could cede territory I'd be okay with surrendering Washington and having Cascadia left to Oregon proper if it came to that.

If it's alright, I'll scrap my idea for a faction and instead play as a pre-existing country. Is Russia or China allowed?

Name of Faction: The National American Reunion Front
Flag:
Platform: Military Dictatorship/ National Liberation
Important Individuals:
Governor-General James Conrad
Territory: Utah, Colorado

History: Lead by General James Conrad a veteran of the war with north korea and chinese
offensive was assigned to Area 51 shortly before the civil war. He was reassigned due to the increasing need for advanced weapons and was believed to be fanatically loyal to America even with the growing unrest in the country. After the Civil War began and James heard other commanders break away he contemplated long and hard. While he knew America is the bright haven of democracy in the world but was being led by a corrupt and ineffective government as such he thought it best to take matters into his own hands and with his men decided to form the NARF, while they may lack the numbers many others hold. He believes with the weaponry and experience of those under him and the people who still believe in America will join his cause.

Military Forces: While the NARF has a limited amount of manpower they make up for in their technology and ammunition. Holding the base of Area 51 and other hidden military bases with Utah and Colorado. They are able to use a mixture of guerrilla warfare for defense and mobile blitz for early assults.

Alright here's a sheet for the true americans.

@LordZellArea 51 is outdated terminology, and was really only used by the CIA to refer to the base. Proper names for the base are Homey Airport, or Groom Lake/Groom Lake Air Force Base. It's also primarily used for testing Aircraft and Air-based Weapons, so your utilization of the technology housed there would be limited to that field of conflict for the most part, and that's without mentioning that many of the projects there are likely prototypes barely ready for field testing. It's also less of a 'base', and more a defended airfield, with it primarily being a remote detachment for Edwards Air Force Base in Southern California, and considered by the government to be an extension of Nellis Air Force Base. It's past experiments include the Lockheed U-2, A-12, D-21, Have Blue, and F-117 Nighthawk, and testing Soviet and Chinese Aircraft captured during various operations. Official CIA involvment lasted until 1979, and since then it has been under jurisdiction of the military brass at Edwards.

So while having the base under your control would aid in air combat, without also controlling the nearby Nellis AFB, and Edwards AFB, you'd be rather limited, and it CERTAINLY wouldn't give you a significant edge in most forms of combat.

Thank you for informing me on that. Yet still even if it's not the most ideal many of the better places are picked and I think I'm one of the few factions to have actual US veterans and up to date weaponry rather then militas. Also there is of the idea of using trying to reform america as I'm sure in each other nation there are those that would support us so... I have that going for me I guess.
