While it's nice that the mods can hide posts for you, I just don't feel the need to contact them to hide posts like for inactive characters. Most people usually get their own accidental posts deleted, and spam posts are usually cleared when spam accounts are nuked.

Actually, this is like an argument against the feature. lol

And if you want to allow Co-GMs to edit posts, I think first we'd need to implement a backup save of the previous post. So, in case somebody gets pissy and rage deletes the entire OP, it can be reverted with the push of a button. Like wikipedia.

I'd like to submit a bug report. It seems impossible to enter empty titles now without using a linebreak (\n). Previously, it was possible to remove the user title by submitting it while empty.

Alright, doing some more Guild work today and the rest of the week.

@LegendBegins Thanks, I see what caused that. #willfix

@Ellri Hmm, interesting solution regarding the ability for a GM/Co-GM to mark their post as "GM-editable". This would be simpler and more generalized than a "0th post" system.

What was stopping me in the past was that I wanted to have some sort of revision history per post before I allowed multiple people to edit a post, but these days I think that sort of conservatism is too defensive.

@Mr Allen J The problem with GM deletion is that it's nice when all is going well, but it's pretty destructive in the hands of flippant abuse, like hiding every post a player made in a 1000-page roleplay just because of a disagreement on the 1000th page or something.

I think the current solution of being able to block future posts from a player is a pretty low-risk trade-off for now.

I suppose a better solution is to make the roleplay system smarter like having an actual character system that supports things like approval, managing characters, killing them off, etc. I've brainstormed mock-ups of this sort of thing in the past, but I obviously have larger priorities.

@mahz while a revision history can be very useful at times, its not mandatory. If anything, it'll be enough with one that keeps a record of what the post was say, 24-48 hours earlier, which mods can restore on request should a GM/Co-GM go crazy and try to delete everything.

Definitely agree on the GM deletion function. Its very open for abuse by GMs that get into conflicts with players. Its better to have all forms of Delete/hide previously written posts to be in the hands of the moderators. (or do some of them have tentacles instead of hands?).

I added a URL /rules which redirects to the rules.

I also added a link to the rules on the homepage sidebar so that it's in plain view:

Should be a lil easier to spot now compared to burying it in some subforum.

Can we get the new fundamental rules to the guild pinned so it isn't lost in the mix?

@Lady Amalthea I decided not to pin it since there's now a global link in the sidebar, more visible than ever.

The only reason it's implemented as a topic rather than a static web page is so that moderators can easily edit it without needing any additional development time on my part.

I'd prefer that people link to roleplayerguild.com/rules so that when the rules location changes in the future, I only need to update the redirect.

Pushed up some big internal changes, so I'm sorry if anything breaks.

The topic/post submission routes were especially affected, so I'll be keeping watch for any server errors that I can abruptly fix.

I also fixed an awful bug that prevented people from logging in.

It should be fixed. The system we use for detecting spambots is a bit broken so it auto-nuked your account. You should be fine now that you've been unuked and approved by us Mods.

I still can't seem to get in... I just tried before I came back to your post. Should I be concerned? .3.

@Angelic Knight know this is an odd request, but can you see what happens once you reach 10 posts? Maybe throw up a couple of posts in the spam or test section.

Weird, I will investigate the issue. Reversing the spam-bot handler should apply immediately and let you see your hidden posts.

One thing I've been working on is a massive upgrade to the Guild's underwhelming /chat server: by turning it into an official Discord server.

The Guild already has a 10-month-old, community-run, unofficial chat server running on Discord which will continue to exist. The community-run Discord server has been an essential part of the Guild for a while now and I'm thankful that the community took it upon itself to create and run it.

But an official Discord server lets me do some interesting, automated things by integrating into the Guild and programmatically linking Guild accounts with Discord accounts since I have API access.

Right now, the Guild staff have been testing it since it's proven to be an amazing tool for moderators.

Also, on the official Discord server, nickname changes are disabled since GuildBot automatically gives you your Guild username once you authenticate with the server. Some people will not like this, but I currently don't see a way of allowing custom Discord nicknames while also displaying your Guild username so that people know who you are.

I will launch it soon for public testing, and I will replace the "Chat" link in the header with a link to the Discord server along with updating it so that it shows how many Discord users are online:

I'll keep the /chat server around until it naturally fizzles out to zero users since it's running on a free server IIRC (I'll have to double-check ).

But I would like to shut it down eventually since it lets me delete a bunch of code, and that's always a good thing.

If you want to test out the official Discord server, just visit this link: roleplayerguild.com/discord (You'll need a Discord account)

If you're having any issues, like landing on a "FORBIDDEN" page, please PM me on the unofficial Discord server.

You can access the unofficial Discord server here: discord.gg/ZNX6Bbd

Unfortunately, Discord is still pretty limited.

For example, I'd like unlimited channels and the ability for roleplay GMs to create unlisted channels with custom permissions.

I think the long-term solution is to find a self-hosted Discord alternative that's more powerful.
