I meant that if the emperor was married, my second character would be related to his wife. And it doesn't even have to be a close relation, it could be her uncle or something like that. Though it entirely depends whether the emperor is married or not(or if @Letter Bee allows it), if not, then I'll make him one of the few nobles who was on the emperor's side rather than oppose him(because of his own agenda of course).
