Lightning crashed in the expanse of eye-gouging darkness, as it may have always done. It illuminated the nothingness, casting lances of distorted colors across a shambling mass of ancient bones. Or, rather, it should be said timeless bones; for 'ancient' was too paltry a term to apply to the silhouette of Death himself. Adjusting his demeanor, the recently departed Hero puffed up his chest and crossed his arms. It simply would not do to have Death looking down on him.
"Hello, Kathriss the Verbose," came the somehow throaty rattle, followed by a rhythmic squishing, "I require your assistance, once you have...hrrmmm...adjusted." Kathriss, Mage of Eight Circles and Champion of Arcane Miscellanea, raised a golden eyebrow and strained his eyes against the wriggling umbrage. He did not yet deign to speak, for asking such a juvenile question like 'With what, pray tell?' was foolish when dealing with those grand beings who waited beyond the Mortal Coil. Instead the Hero merely waited.
After a fashion, he could see more clearly. The two of them stood in Death's own Quiet Garden, a field of withered weeds and dead daisies. Kathriss now understood the strange squishing that had punctuated the silence, and why Death's voice sounded labored. The towering reaper stood in a large bucket, the trailing tatters of his famously depicted robe were gathered in knobby hands, and his ligamentless knees rising and falling in perfect time.
"Not simply any wine, Kathriss the Verbose. I'm making Dreadwine," Death inclined his head, so as to aim empty sockets directly at the Hero for the first time, "that which may entertain even the most benumbed of my kindred. Yet, I grow tired. Assist me, Hero, then we will discuss your placement in the After." Slowly, Death removed himself from the container, stepping over the side and gently shaking his feet free of what seemed to be a purple and black sludge. "The Dreadwine is made from Etherberries, gathered here in my own Garden." Death let out a groan as he sank to the ground beside Kathriss, putting his hands behind his hooded head and crossing one leg lazily over the other.
The Hero nodded, his boots finally free of dainty feet. "Etherberries, you say? Are they not common in the Mortal Coil? I have never heard of this Dreadwine, however. Truly it must be a terrific inebriant! Might I try some, in the future?" With a moment's hesitation, he climbed into the vat and took up where Death had left off. "Strange! They are rather warm...I had not expected such...and the smell is much different from the Etherberries I knew from home!"
"Of course, Hero, there is much unexpected; both here and in the Mortal Coil. You may sample this batch, once it's complete. It's quite good," he had produced parchment and a quill from within the voluminous confines of his garb, scribing something with deliberate sloth, "but I fear that I may be busy, for some time to come. The forces that be grow weary, and death is sure to trail in the wake of their whimsy."
"I do not understand. Are you not one of these 'powers that be'? You are Death himself, one of the most feared and lauded of abstract incarnations!"
"If I could, Kathriss, I might've blushed. But no, I have no influence over what is to come."
"What, pray tell, is to come?"
"I...do not yet know. I don't think anyone does."
Polychromatic lightning spread overhead, followed by a slowing squishing sound.
Hi, there! I'm Crumbs and you are you. @ScreenAcne is here, also, and we'll be serving as Co-GMs in this foray into kooky territory. As you can see, this is a fantasy setting that won't be taking its self too seriously. There's a lot of stuff that we have in mind, but for now I thought I'd try to grab your attention with a spiffy flavor intro. I hope it worked!
So, yeah! This here's an idea that's somewhat different from what I usually do, in terms of how things are gonna work. For the basis, you're going to be playing a Hero (either one of some renown, or a fledgling) working with other Heroes. As per standard proceedure, you'll be starting straight into the fun...with a dungeon! All sorts of characters and the like will be welcome, given that this is intended to be a fairly open experience...or, uh, we'll at least take what the budget can handle!
I don't want to give too much of the story away, given the nature of things, but I hope that Chapter 0 gave you an idea as to how 'grim' the situation may be. The setting its self is only nebulously formed, to be true, but more information will be given about that in the OOC.
Of course, any and all questions are welcome. Some may not be answered completely, if they stray too close to something that might be spoilers, but we'll be here to do our best to fill you in on all the sweet details!
Thanks for reading and I hope I may have snagged some interest from you!
@rush99999 Yeah, I would love to continue some MGB! Give me a little while to read over what we've done, again, and I'll shoot you a reply! I'm glad you're interested~
@KronshiHehehe, that's fine! As long as you think you can put up about 2 or more paragraphs per post, I'll count you in. As a general rule of mine, that's the minimum. I don't imagine that we'll be speed posting or anything, so you'll have plenty of time!
Quick Q: Can I expect that all of the need-to-know information will be ready with the upcoming post of the actual topic? Race selection, et-cetera (given that --as it stands-- we're a bit in the dark on this)?
@Virgil Yeah! You can expect pertinent information to appear in the OOC. Race selection will be pretty open, as will a lot of things. There will be a lot of freedom given to the Players, in this scenario. As things are, right now, the setting is a fairly basic fantasy world. Almost any 'standard' race will be expected and accepted; but we're pushing for creativity in some of these areas.
However, I think you guys should gird your loins (yeah, I said it) for a lot of unexpected surprises. Being in the dark, for several things (through the course of the plot) is part of the role of yourself and your character. I mean, even Death was vexed at what is to happen next. Like stated, though, there will be a good bit of information with the OOC; since people at least want to know where the hell their character is from and that kind of stuff.
Also, thank you. I'm doing my best to be super on-point about stuff (at least with timely replies), since I've come back. ^^
@Roughdragon1Well, then! Welcome aboard and I hope that we can provide you with an adequately interesting experience for your first sojourn! As it was with @Kronshi, all I ask is that you do two paragraphs per post (with, of course, appropriate grammar and punctuation; though I doubt that will be an issue from anyone). That's a minimum, and I always appreciate more, but it'll suffice. ^^
As things are, now, @ScreenAcne and myself will begin work on the OOC sometime tonight or tomorrow. I would like another Player, before the OOC is complete and posted, but we'll see how things go!
Hope you guys are pumped~
Minor Edit: Sorry, @Kronshi, I totally forgot to do the Mention in my first run of this post. I know it won't send a Notification, this way, but it only seemed right.
Don't worry about it. I'm happy for the attention though.
I love these kind of in the dark type roleplays. I GM Pathfinder with friends and family but they hate not knowing things so I rarely get to do these anymore.
Hey, I've been looking to bring in some new blood to our table, but I live in the middle of nowhere near Memphis. Not a whole lot of TT fans in the Bible belt sadly, or at least it's hard to find them.

Might I suggest "Monopoly: Monotheistic Edition"?
I kid, but still, I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
