Om

A thunderous call that practically shook the earth rang out across the campus of the renowned Silverspell University, pulling the attention of many of the school's patterns both old and new. What could have produced such a booming noise one may wonder, what force of nature was announcing itself to the world, what otherworldly event was about to take place? Fortunately nothing so grand was taking place, the boisterous noise was coming from the equally boisterous living mountain that many at Silverspell have come to know as Om. The towering young man was creating such a commotion do to the fact he was finding it quitter hard to contain his excitement as he helped greet a group of new students. "This is my second year at Silverspell and let me say you guys are going to love it here!! The professors are super cool, there is always something fun to do on campus, a bunch of people to hang out with, and oh don't even get me started on the food here!!" Om said, a warming grin on his face as he looked over the little crowd that had started to form before him.

The giant of a lad had to contain his energy just to keep himself from bouncing with excitement, admittedly he was doing that quite poorly. "Oh oh oh I could give you all a tour of the campus and show-" Om started, his eagerness practically dripping from his voice, but was cut off by a stirring in his shirt's breast pocket. The small fur covered head of a squirrel emerged and gave what looked like quite the scolding to Om. "Boy you haven't even made it to your room yet..." The small woodland creature sent her motherly voice into the eager young man's mind.

Om let out a heavy sigh of disappointment "Ehhh you're right Gaho... sorry guys." He said as he looked over the wide assortment of vampires, lycans, elves, and numerous other species that were still gathered around him. "But seriously you guys are going to have a blast here and if you guys ever need anything feel more than welcome to come and ask me." He said with his usual warm smile as he started to pick up the luggage he had set down earlier. Om had hoisted five mind-bogglingly large bags off the ground with no effort what so ever; keeping two in hand, two under his massive arms, and the final one slung over his shoulder. "Well I will catch you all later!!" He said before he started to stroll off, a peep in his step. "Oh wait..." He said before he turned around, continuing to walk backwards. "My name is Om by the way!!" He shouted back to the group that stood there rather stunned.

It took Om no time finding his dorm house, he spent a lot of time last year completely lost so he made it a point to get pretty familiar with the campus to avoid doing the same thing this time around. "I wonder what my roommates will be like..." He pondered aloud as he walked into the building, using his backside to prop open the door. "I could just tell you, you know?" Gaho's voice chimed into Om's head as he made his way down the hall reading the dorm numbers. "NO!! That would ruin the surprise, I want to get to know them myself." Om said, half looking down at his chest where the squirrel was still lazily curled up in his pocket.

Before that conversation could continue Om came to a sudden stop. "FOUND IT!! 329!!" The juggernaut exclaimed in victory, jumping into the air ever so slightly. Though how proud of his tracking skills he was Om couldn't help but be distracted by the strong aroma of food coming from behind the door he just found. "Are those... pancakes?" He thought for a moment before shaking it off. "That must mean my roomies are in!!" He exclaimed before walking forward, well backward using his broad backside to push the door open. Om was greeted by the wild sight of a mound of food being devoured by a even wilder looking woman. "WOAH!! Did you cook all of this?! That is so awesome!!!" He said looking over both the food and the woman in wonder. "I'm your roommate by the way, people call me Om, it is great to meet you!" Om said as he dropped the two bags in his hands, each one producing a floor shaking thud, before he offered a hand to the mystey food fiend that was presumably his roommate.

Dorms, Rooftop.

Interactions - Himself.

Though the tiled foundation Raven found himself upon was less than comfortable, his eyes traced the blue sky with an uncommonly somber expression making its way towards his otherwise bright and upbeat visage. Seeing Raven like this, was a rarity indeed. How lucky it was then, that the Warlock found a spot for himself upon the academy's rooftop. Resting those dainty hands behind his head, Raven took a deep breath, his furred ears flickering somewhat beneath the music playing from his iPod. One day had passed since the was left to dry, and it was a foolish notion that Raven wouldn't be affected by such tribulations. Indeed, Warlocks were passionate beings, enough so to be known throughout the supernatural world as creatures of impulse and freedom. One should not discredit or indeed discount the aspect of love, and how it seeps into their lives. "It's okay to be sad, you know." A soft voice blanketed the silence, Raven's iPod playing at a low volume with songs less than upbeat.

"No one wants to see a dramatic Warlock, Midnight." A light voice responded, Raven's slender fingers running their way through Midnight's fur as he sat down next to the creature.

"You put so much emphasis on that, kid." Midnight continued, gazing out across the vast landscape. "Deleted his number from your phone, yet?"

"Yeah. Feels like he got the last laugh, though! Should have sent him a dead mouse in the mail, or something." The warlock returned, his eyes never wavering from the clear blue sky.

"Ethra's familiar seemed to fit into that description." The fox shuddered slightly.

"Didn't notice her familiar." Raven responded, a soft yawn escaping his lips. "So, think there are any cute guys here?"

"There are a lot of students here, Raven. The likelihood is rather large." The fennec informed, stretching his body. "You should focus on your studies, though." Midnight finished, causing Raven to laugh in response, as if he had uttered quite the successful joke.

"Come on, Fuzzbutt. Let's see what mischief we can come up with." The Warlock ascended to his paws, stretching with a slight groan before picking up his Familiar. "Let's see! Where to?"

"Oh, dear..." Midnight sighed, shaking his head.

Flapping his wings, Raven ascended from the rooftop and flew down towards the campus grounds. If there was anything that would make him feel better, and avert his thoughts from the ever so painful breakup he had been through, it was causing a spectacle. The only question was, what exactly would he do?

Ethra

The Silverspell Library was, simply put, vast. As Ethra stepped inside through the front entrance, she was met with two-storied platforms built into tall, replete bookshelves. It was no surprise, the sheer number of books kept here, most on all the species known to inhabit this world, and many others pertaining to the arcane. Ethra’s guardian Kantus owned a plethora of books back home, practically all of which she’d taken the time to read - but it paled in comparison to all of this.

Ethra moved forward with the intent of procuring any number of books on whatever species she’d yet to cover. That had been her goal for a long time, even before Silverspell - to act as a scholar of sorts. In fact, a frequent thought of hers was that she wished to own a library herself one day. A calm, quiet establishment, nothing too opulent. Somewhere she could be at ease.

Thoughts for another time, however. Now, just more books. As she moved forward however, Ethra felt something tap her upper right shoulder. She swiveled her neck around in classic owl fashion to behold a lumpy, spindly black tentacle jutting upward from the floor, out of some sort of small black rift in the air. Ethra’s feathers stood up some as a small black puddle emerged next to the tentacle’s base. Out of it rose a tall, lean, limbless figure, clad in ragged purple robes, and wearing a white, almost porcelain-like mask, with several holes carved into it. Nothing lied behind them but an empty void. Out of the back of the figure’s head, three intertwining tentacles flowed back into the rifts on the floor, slowly undulating, lifting the figure just a few inches upward.

"Ma̢y͟ I h͏e͘lp͞ ̨y̨ou, ̵y̕oun͘g ͞bag̨o͏y͢ép͠.̡"

She spoke with no mouth, and her words carried a faint echo, with various other sounds mixed in. Ethra hesitated for a moment before her feathers settled, her body turned to standard orientation, and she regained what composure she lost. “I…” She began, “I came to browse. Perhaps check a few items out.”

"͏Ár̷e ͘yoų ̛à ̶new ̷s͝tud̨en̴t.́"

“Yes. My name is Ethra.”

"E҉th̨r͟a. I am̛ ̛Y̨g'̸n̴t͘ha̶s̨i̴i̡-Sr̶ag-Ura. ̵I҉ ́m͢anąge thi͞ş ar͏ch̢ìv̴e."͟

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Ethra replied, bowing her head just the slightest bit. “I… may be here for a while, letting you know in advance.”

"̴T̨h͠a̧t i̕s̨ all̷o͡w͟ed.͝ Le͏t͠ ̶me̷ kņow if ̨so͞met͘h͜ing͘ el̀s͠e ͏i͏s̨ re̸quir҉e͢d.̶"

“I will. Thank you.”

And with that, Yg’ntha slowly receded into the floor, the rifts vanishing afterwards. Ethra lingered for only a moment before turning and heading for the shelves once again. There were very few other students around, most understandably not interested in studying so early before classes officially began. Which meant it’d be all the more easier to find a free seat.

Griffin

"Do you need help Griffin?"

Griffin did, indeed, need help as he sat on the floor with the computer strewn out before him. In his haste to find a spot for his potion gear he never stopped and consider how to put the thing back together. The answer to "How hard could it be?" seemed to be pretty hard once you scattered the wires to high hell. So when he answered with a defeated "yeah" Poe wasn't terribly surprised.

"You could call the IT team, they would know how to help you."

"Yeah, but I don't want to get them involved in something so dumb."

"Hmm, well then there's always the Library. The librarian here is very helpful."

And so it was decided, he thought to himself as he stood back up and gave his back a stretch. After recentering his sunglasses, slipping on a pair of scuffed up converse, and stuffing a couple of slices of bread in his mouth, Griffin had Poe lead him through the school as she sat on his shoulder like the raddest pirate pet ever. The walk itself was fairly pleasant, Griffin observed his fellow students much more closely and was surprised by the sheer amount of species that he couldn't recognize. Bigger world than he thought. However it was fun seeing the interactions between people, of old friends meeting back up, of people chatting over coffee, and just seeing different people coexist was a breath of fresh air to the chaotic lifestyle he'd left behind for now.

Once he entered the library however that pleasant, friendly glow was replaced with something close to awe as the sheer amount of books hit him. The place was quiet and seemed to radiate knowledge like it was a force invading his senses. In all honesty it stunned him for a moment before shaking it off, a giddiness bubbling up to the surface as he began to skim isles.

Unfortunately it didn't take much time before Griffin's attention was stolen when he passed by an a row of books dedicated to various herbs, then another much older book about casting spells through magical reagents in potions, and so on and so forth until he had three textbooks, four journals, two manuscripts and a scroll all about the subject and sciences behind the varied world of potions. He was like a kid in a candy store as he carried his findings in two baskets and a scroll carrier, his original mission forgotten as he chatted up Poe about all the things he could learn from official sources.

Lola

"Guh..." Stepped out of a shadow, into her room once more. Local shadow stepping was near instantaneous-- and she was quite thankful for it-- one could only take so much flacid insecurities of First Years before you had to come up for air. Her room was like her own little sanctuary-- it already felt warded against the world-- even with just her brief spell cast this morning. She could just... block out the world, and enjoy her coffee.

She took a sip of the coffee in her hands, a souveneir from her trip to the cafeteria-- and it was all she could take before she let the cup drop, sinking into the shadow sea as it hit the floor. "Coffee hasn't gotten any better either." She shuddered, "You ask for black, they give you flavorless espresso..."

Voodoo gave a sad whir, within his golden tangle home.

"It's cool bro-- I planned for this, actually." Lola snapped again, clearing space on her desk, the shadow above become like black water, and from the riptide, an object began to drip out, slowly, as if falling from stygian molasses.

Reno, Nevada. 8am. An hour or two ago.

A woman with brilliant golden blonde hair, styled as if she never left the 80's, stands in her apartment. She's in her 40's, and enjoying a cigarette, and a cup of joe.

Suddenly, as if by dark magic, her coffee maker disappears, pot and all. As if drowning in it's own shadow.

The woman blinks. "God DAMNIT, Dolores!!!"

"Love you too, Ma!" The void becomes solid shadow once again, as the coffee machine lands flatly on the desk. "Coolio..." Lola whispers... "Now I just gotta..."

Voodoo whirs.

"Yeah."

Whirring continues.

"Yeah, no I know." Lola, coffee machine in tow, makes her way to the door, and stops-- she smells the syrupy wafting of pancakes and can taste a sunny & annoying disposition in the air. She waits a moment, considering her options.

Voodoo clicks, tilting his head.

Lola tsks, her hair shifting to cover her scar once more, "I'm not scared you little shit, I just don't really want to deal with like..."

Click, click.

"No man, people are fine-- it's preppy people I don't want to deal with."

Whir, chirp, whir, whir. Voodoo hopped out of her hair and looked at her.

"Fair point, shitbird." Lola sighed, opening the door to her room. Exposing, even so briefly, her sanctuary to the outside world, and more immediately, her roommates. Noting their eyes on her-- a pretty brown girl with a necklace that would make Flavor Flav blush, and a dude she recognized from last year as 'Om.' She preempted any greetings with, "Don't." She raises a hand at the pair, "Can't deal with character interaction yet. Haven't had my coffee." Slinking past them both, she began to set up her coffee maker in the kitchen.

Ethra

“Creatures Created and Conceived, Vol. V.”

She laid the book on the counter.

“Memoirs of an Undead Councilor.”

She laid the book on top of the previous book.

“The Profane Duke, Behold thy Screaming Monument, and The Defiance of the Moleod Magi.”

Ethra laid three more books on top of the counter, totalling up to five. She figured she should pace herself with her reading material - once classes started, she would be focusing a lot less on personal interests. Five books for now - some fiction, some not.

Ethra watched as one of Yg’ntha’s tentacles stretched out from whatever void they were housed in, grabbing a nearby pen and writing down a record of all five books on a simple yellow notepad.

“Forgive my curiosity, but would you know if Creatures Created and Conceived includes any information on… your species?” Ethra asked.

"͢Th͏er̕e arè fe̸w̨ to͠me̶s̴ on the ̡Ch̸i҉ldr͝e͜n̨ o̡f̶ ́t͞h̴e ̨Fi̷lt͏hm͠ong̵er͠.̛"͜

“Are any of them here?”

"͡N͞o. If y͟ou ͟wish,̷ ̨we͟ ma̸y̨ s̡it a͝n͠d̨ ͜d̨i͜sc̶u̴ss it̴ s͡o̸m̸eti͡me."̧

“I think I would enjoy that. Thank you, ma’am.”

Yg’ntha nodded her head, and turned to handle a bit more paperwork as Ethra turned and left, looking for a place to sit. She found an empty table with a dozen chairs seated around it, and eased into one. She laid the books down and picked up Creatures Created and Conceived, opening it to the index. She could already see several dozen passages on species she hadn’t covered in other books. She figured she’d sit and gloss over them for an hour or two before heading back to her dorm, or maybe the cafeteria for something to eat.

All now was nice and quiet.

Haka-Mesuka
Interactions: @Conscripts, @Roccanironclad

Haka-Mesuka kept her back turned to Ash as he introduced himself, sipping her mint water slowly as the man apologized for his somewhat oblivious nature. He seemed polite enough; even made his roommates a snack as a gesture of friendship. Yet, such generic gestures of kindness would not easily negate Mesuka's willingness to distaste the fellow Lycan. As Mortem wrote the Haka-born a note, Mesuka finally turned herself to face Ash. Upon the wooden island-table was a plate of... food. Honestly, Mesuka could not identify the meal as anything she had ever seen; it was almost completely foreign. Truly, she wouldn't have been propelled to taste the dish at all if it were not for the note Mortem passed her:

"You can have my taco, you look cold."

So, they were called "tacos". Alright. Mesuka gave Mortem a small smile and a "Thank you" before completely glaring at Ash as she reached for the food platter. Tacos seemed to be morsels of meat within hardened shells, apparently. Mesuka took the first Baja Taco off the plate and looked at it for a second. It looked a little like an oyster or muscle, perhaps that was how she was supposed to eat it? Cracking open the shell of the taco, Mesuka ate the fish meat and other ingredients before discarding the supposedly unedible outer carapace of her snack into the nearest trash can. Honestly, though, the snack was great; an array of acidic flavors complimented the fish meat very well, and the Haka-born was not disappointed with such a taste. "You've prepared these well", Mesuka said in a rather rough tone to her cook, grimacing at the thought alone of thanking him. She reached for and ate the second taco, in the same fashion as before, her sharp eyes and features burning into Ash's person from across the table.

If it only were not for Yukka, none of these pleasantries would have to be exchanged. If she did not use her "manners" and make nice with her cohorts, she would never hear the end of it. And, honestly, she hated that frog's annoying, cowardly tone more than anything else. Perhaps that was why he was assigned to the Lycan; he had a way of getting to her in that way. With a big gulp of her mint tea, Mesuka finally addressed the room. "With all my moving, I've had no time to study for first classes. I was wondering if... any of you would like to come to the library with me. At the very least, we could go sit in the school court-yard. I think it's a little more sunny outside than when I first arrived.", the Haka-born questioned, perturbed by the mention of any in her sentence. The thought of being alone and having to converse more with Ash gave her headaches. But, studying had to be done, and Yukka had talked her ear off last night about this:

"You have to engage with more people, Mesuka! Promise me you'll at least try to. Study or play sports with someone tommorow, please?"

"Fine."

Leon Brand

Leon traversed the path to the dorms, luggage split between his backpack and the rolling suitcase trailing behind him. So this is where he'd be living for the next few years. It was certainly beautiful, Leon could appreciate that. Surrounded by mountains, the air was much more fresh than in the city he used to live. It seemed like a distant memory now. After you learn that witches and dragons and vampires are all real...Well, you can't really go back to it, can you?

"This way, Leo! This way!" The corgi said in his head. Even when the little dog was using telepathy, it still managed to sound like yapping.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." He said, following the dog to the dorms. Roger was his familiar. While Leo had to admit he was kind of cute, he wished he wasn't so noisy. Leon glanced down at the slip of paper that held his dorm number. Room 416. He was going to be rooming with Varos and Ivy. Whoever they were. He had to wonder, what kind of name was Varos? Maybe it was Italian. When he got to the door, he found it unlocked.

"Hello?" Leon called out, looking around the room. Among the residents of the academy, he probably stood out like a sore thumb: He looked like, and in fact was, a completely ordinary human. Granted, a very in shape human. He was tall, and had broad shoulders. He wore a tank top that showed off his powerful arms and toned chest, as well as a pair of jeans. And of course, the ring that always stayed on his finger.

"Is anyone here?" He asked. He was very eager to meet his new dormmates. He was new to the supernatural world. While he was normally an introvert, he wanted to familiarize himself with his surroundings as soon as possible. He noticed an open door, and walked over...Only to see a girl. She was strikingly beautiful, but she had an unearthly quality about her that made him suspect that he was indeed the only human in the room. She looked like she was asleep, so he quietly stepped back, and tried the door next to it. It was clear that this one was his, since it was decorated like his room back home. There was a small TV, old enough that it had both a VHS and DVD player, with a video game console connected to it. There was a bed, as well as his set of weights. The room itself was comfy, with blue carpet and a big window.

Ash

Ash stood by finishing his own taco as the other lycan picked hers up and completely destroyed the thing in an attempt to eat it in a manner one could only compare to eating an oyster, but with the way she was glaring at him, he had no intention of trying to correct the behavior, regardless, it was none of his business how she ate it.

"You've prepared these well"

The young woman said while still glaring. Ash took a moment to really get a look of his roommates, the skeletal man was surely interesting, like nothing he had ever seen, but it was in fact the girl that stunned him, he recognized the outfit and garb she had, but not perfectly. During the past couple of years in this school all of Ash's time was consumed by researching the other packs, his ultimate goals staying as secretive as possible, however this woman seemed like she was from a Japanese pack, but not one he knew.

Cat got your tongue Ash? Can't decide whether to upset or not? Why don't you just try harder? Krasis chirped as he flew about the room, the bird always seemed to have an agenda, whatever he was doing, Ash had a feeling that only part of it was meant to help him. Obviously you missed something, some note or paper that talked about her pack, and if you missed hers, you missed more. You will fail at this rate. Krasis was right if he missed one who knows how many more he missed.

"With all my moving, I've had no time to study for first classes. I was wondering if... any of you would like to come to the library with me. At the very least, we could go sit in the school court-yard. I think it's a little more sunny outside than when I first arrived."

When the woman said this Ash knew that he needed to get more information, learn what he could, and he could tell that Krasis wanted him to as well, but the demeanor of this woman was venomous, it may be smarter of him to just leave her be at this point and do his own separate research, though she was going to the library. "Well I surely can't refuse such a kind offer now could I?" he said with the unease that anyone might feel as eye lasers burn away their skin, "It just so happens I had been needing to go to the library anyway. I didn't catch either of your names by the way." Ash gave an effort to hide the concern on his face, this other lycan has in one fell swoop made him both feel uncomfortable and remember painful memories, and if he wanted either of those to go away, he had work to do.

Griffin

"-And that's why I prefer fire stones to bunsen burners."

"Oh my, that would cause a bit of a ruckus."

Griffin was all smiles as he rounded the corner to the checkout desk, having just finished an anecdote about his life on the road. The weight of the baskets had significantly lessened once Griffin dropped off several textbooks, having found several of them to contain much of the same information just by skimming the table of contents. He now had an elven cookbook for medicinal potions and poultices, "Dr. Nostromo's Guide to Destructive Construction", and a slightly burnt, very old book written in such flowery script as to be unreadable, along with smaller supplemental texts and scroll. He wasn't exactly confident that he'd be able to read them all before he needed to return them, but if worst came to worst he could renew the ones he didn't complete. However he was shaken out of his thoughts as he met the Librarian, a decidedly... unconventional creature.

"͏G̴r͠ee̛t͡in͠gs͝ y҉oung Eat̷ȩn͡,͏ ̸do yo̕u҉ ̢w͡is͏h̕ t̛o͡ ̨chec̸k͝ ͡out t̶hơs͟e b̕ook̡s̕,͜ o͢r͢ ̢iś ̶t̀her̴e s͜o͟me͢ţh̨i͡n͝g e̡ļs̸e ̧ţh͞at you r̸e͏qu̢i͢re?̡"

The words seemed to come from her but also deep within his mind, creating an odd sensation of mild unease as the Librarian seemingly peered into whatever was left of his soul.

"Uh... Y-yeah, yes please. If it isn't too much trouble... Ma'am?"

The Librarian deftly penned the names of the materials down on a yellow notepad before returning them. With much less materials than he had before, Griffin was able to stick the journals in his pockets while he carried everything else. With a last double check to make sure everything was secure Griffin scanned the area of a place to sit down for a bit, the old english book was just itching to be cracked open. With a quick, but honest, "Goodbye!" Griffin left the otherworldly Librarian to complete his goal. It took him a second but as it turned out, who else did he find but his feathery roommate. Thinking to himself that this would be a good time to get some bonding done, Griffin made his way over casually before standing next to Ethra.

"Hey there Ethra, fancy meeting you here. Mind if I take a seat next to ya? I've got to put these babies down for a sec before heading back to the dorm."

He didn't exactly wait for her answer but he put the books down gently and slowly enough that he could easily pack up and leave if she didn't want company.

Ethra

“I don’t mind at all.” Ethra replied to Griffin, as he planted himself in the seat next to her. She veered her eyes away from her book for a moment to say, “I apologize for leaving unannounced earlier.” All Griffin gave in reply was a lax wave of his hand, proclaiming his being fine with the act.

With the two of them there, Ethra’s thoughts wandered back to exactly what Griffin was. Irsk said he was an Eaten, but she’d never heard that term before, not even in any books from back home, or from checking the index of Creatures Created and Conceived. He was absent from all of them, which struck her as being exceedingly peculiar.

Many species in the world beyond mundanity were very, very rare, and with rarity often came a distinct lack in overall population. Bagoyép were always known to be very uncommon creatures, rarely more than two or three ever being found in one place. The only one Ethra knew personally was Kantus - everyone else back home was something else entirely, some mundane and some absolutely steeped in magic, and just a few of them fitting in with the ‘uncommon’ tier.

Ethra had a thought, though, a simple thought, that Griffin beat them all in terms of rarity. And curiosity tended to get the better of her over her usual aversion to socializing, when scholarly interests were involved.

So she decided to inquire.

“Griffin.” Ethra began, causing the Eaten to look up from his book. She continued, “Assuming it would not be too impolite of me to ask, would you tell me about… what you are?”

Mortem

During the whole exchange, Mortem noticed something strange about the Haka-born. Her tone towards Ash was unusually hostile. That's not how people would react to strangers, Mortem knew it. It's common sense that existed for thousands of years, and he did not believe it has changed recently.

She has a bad history with him? But they did not appear to know each other. The skeleton pondered. Then what is it that made her tone so venomous?

Mortem continued to look at the two of them curiously as Mesuka devoured the tacos while glaring at Ash. After finishing her meal, she proceeded to addressed the room.

"With all my moving, I've had no time to study for first classes. I was wondering if... any of you would like to come to the library with me. At the very least, we could go sit in the school court-yard. I think it's a little more sunny outside than when I first arrived."

To the library? Mortem had already made his plan to visit the dojo and practice sword fighting. But before he could actually write it down on his note, Cerberus, the hound who was wagging his tail repeatedly next to the skeletal figure, intercepted.

"I know what you're trying to do. Come on, you're here to study, not sword fighting. Swordsmen and fencers are outdated vocations. People only take it for sporting purposes, that's it!"

Mortem turned to write the note for Cerberus.

'But that's makes me...me. I died with it'

"Yeah, I appreciate that, but you should spend more time interacting with others as well. Connection, that's how modern day society works. Got it?"

Is it?

Mortem is a tough nut to crack when it comes to ideals, since everything was set pretty solidly when he died. But Mortem knew he could not go against Cerberus in this circumstance. He knew how the world works more than him, despite Mortem having lived his undead life for over six hundred years.

He jerked his head down two times, nodding to Cerberus, while showing his unwilling acknowledgement of the new information. Then he handed the note paper to Mesuka.

'I'll come.' His note was blunt, to shorten the writing time.

And then he turned to Ash, who happened to be asking his and Mesuka's name, and handed a note also shortly written.

'Mortem.'

Katarina

No sooner than Kat started to chow down another scent got stuck in her nose, this one was a good distance away, but it was strong enough that she could tell it was coming directly to the room. However, she ignored it for now and continued to eat at her normal pace, grabbing an entire omelette and chunking the egg dish in her mouth. Kat never actually used utensils to eat, figuring her hands were the best tool to pick up and eat food making her look wilder need be but it's fine being that she never cared too much about what others thought of her. Not even a few minutes later and a man barged through the door, large set, muscular and tan skinned, he certainly looked strong and smelled like a Thunderbird. Apparently, he was one of her roommates setting himself apart from the other creature that was taking up residence in the third bedroom.

“Um, yeah, pull up and eat, we don’t have much” she complained at the lack of provisions

“Nice to meet you Om, the names Katarina, Kat, Kitten, K, whatever you want, ” she explained taking the last sausage on the table.

The conversation didn’t late to long before the third member of their group revealed themselves and completely shut down any attempts at conversation. Not that Kat mind, she was mostly focused on getting something in her stomach.

Om

Om had to contain his excitement a bit as the woman who was so elegantly scoffing down the mound of food before her by the literal handful not only greeted him, but also welcomed him to join in on the feast. "I have never been one to turn down food, thanks for the offer K." Be lug said before he started the process of dropping the remainder of his luggage on the ground, again each one hitting floor with a teeth rattling thud. He wasted no time pulling up a chair and digging in. Under normal circumstances a large man beginning to shove an assortment of pancakes and eggs into his gullet using only his hands would probably be considered an odd site, but considering the fact another gargantuan of a person was doing the very same one might be able to consider this normal... well almost.

It was after he had spent a good minute or two stuffing his face with a mixture of flapjacks and omelets that Om looked back to his dining companion. "If you don't mind me asking K, but do you know if our other roommate has made it here safe?" But before that conversation could take off the door to one of the rooms opened to reveal a mass of brilliant blonde hair attached to a person. "Oh what timing-" Om tried to exclaim as he rose from his seat only to be cut off abruptly by the new arrival to the room. It seemed that she was a bit in need of some coffee, and Om couldn't blame her seeing as it was the first day of school. He watched the slender lass make her way to the counter and begin setting up her coffee maker. Om scratched his chin for a moment as he began to recognize the fair skinned girl, that and he was wiping off a few specs of egg that was left there. It suddenly clicked that he knew here from last school year, but he couldn't place her name.

A moment or two of silence later Om clapped his hands together once. "Well I am super excited to get to room with you guys, you both seem like great people... er well as people as we can get anyways." He said before he laughed at his own joke. As he collected himself he began picking up his bags from the floor. "I'll just take the last room since it looks like you two have already settled in." Om said as he made his way over to the room that had remained untouched, pushing open the door and walking in. "OH HEY I'M OM BY THE WAY!!" He called back from his now commandeered room, hoping that the blonde stranger was feeling a bit more lifted with caffeine in her system. It was only a moment before Om was back out in the common room with the others. "Soooooooooo roomies you guys got any rules you want to lay down? I ask because my last roommates made it a rule that I couldn't store my whale chops in the fridge anymore, something about them taking up too much space."

"It just so happens I had been needing to go to the library anyway. I didn't catch either of your names by the way.", Ash stated, preparing to leave the apartment alongside his roommates. "Well, I didn't throw it.", Mesuka countered, her gaze going from shooting daggers into the man to inspecting her cup of mint. Honestly, the Haka-born felt a tinge sadistic enjoyment as Ash succumbed to the venomous nature of Mesuka's tone. She didn't expect him to be so offended so quick. Yet, some moral code gnawed at the Haka-born from deep in her core, not allowing her to savor Ash's reaction fully. Perhaps she should let up just a little bit; he had agreed to go to the library, after all. That was somewhat kind of him. "My name is Haka-Mesuka.", Mesuka responded, her tone still stinging but not quiet as deadly as before.

The female Lycan turned to Mortem as he talked by page to his cerberus. Sadly, it seemed that Mortem would have to ditch his almost ceremonial training in order to go to the library with Mesuka, as his familiar pressured. Looking at the skeleton with a slight smile on her face, Haka-Mesuka reassured the undead, saying, "Hell, I'll spar with you in the court-yard, Mortem. It's not quite the dojo, but it'll do. If you give me sometime to study, I'll bring my knives.".

Grabbing a fur coat to cover herself, along with her belt of curved knives, Mesuka followed her other roommates out of their apartment and towards the library. Somewhere along the way, Yukka poked his green head out of the Lycan's furs and whispered, "I'm proud of you, Mes."

Mesuka was happy to see Yg'ntha still placed in her almost immortal position as Librarian. When the Haka-born had first encountered the Filthmonger, she had goosebumps nearly everytime she would encounter the otherworldly falculty. However, over time the Lycan and Yg'ntha came to friendly terms, Mesuka finding the semi-woman's mysterious and all-knowing nature interesting and enjoyable to witness. Hopefully the aberration enjoyed the Haka-born's occasional appearances as well.

"Hello again, Yg'ntha. Good to see you again. Do you happen to have the books I requested for class in stock?"

"Ye͢s.͏ ͘I hav͢é ͜your ͢co͢pie̴s of̷ Ly͟can̨ B͠i̵ol҉o̸g͟y II̢,̶ ̵C̸omba̸t͟ ̛St͏r҉at̸egy for͢ ̀th̀e D́e͝x̧tèr̷o҉ưs̶ ̴III̕, ̨and Des̨cript̷i͘o̸n͠s҉ ̸of̧ ̴Mag͡ic͘ally N͠ątu̡r̨a͟l ̧Ph͏e̵n̴o͟menon͡ ÍI͠ in̸ m͠y͏ i͜nv̷ent͟ory. H̛o̢we͜ve̕r͜, Creat̸ur͟es̡ ͏C͢r̛e͜a͝t͢ed ͝and҉ ͜Conc҉ie͜ved̀ ̨V́ol͢. V ͡is ͘with̕ t̕ha̷t ̧y̨óu͘ng͠ B̴ágo͡ye͘p ove͏r͡ ͜yo̶n̷d͠e͞ŕ."

"Fantastic. Oh, and did you happen to find any articles about Haka lineage while I was moving? I'm more curious than in dire need of the information."

"N̵ot͜ ̵y͜et. ̨I've̕ ̛not͠ ḩad͝ ̀mu̵ch tim̴e to̡ l͠ǫo͟k. But,̴ ̡I w͠o̵u̕l̴d͘ s͜u͝gge҉st͢ loo̶ki͜ng ͝ín̢ ̨the̵ e҉xt͞i͞ǹc̸t̕ ̵s̕p̨ecie̢s͠ secti̵o̶n̵ ̡of ̛the ͠l̵i͠bra̸ry.͡ Thèr̶e ͠a̧r̀e ot̶h͘er ͠rar̶e ̢Lyc͜an ̴p̛acks͝ m҉enţion̵ed in̢ ̛b̵o͜ơks ͘f͞ǫund̛ ̵ther͜e.̛"

Mesuka gave a stifled laugh at the mention of extinct. Honestly, the wolf girl only asked about Haka articles as she was inquisitive to know how the outside world viewed her extremely secluded pack. Other people, including her past roommates, had been awestruck by her description of her past community; she wondered if such responses were commonplace among studied scholars, as well.

Taking her books from Yg'ntha, Haka-Mesuka headed over to the bagoyep that the librarian had pointed out, that of which was currently in a conversation with... a seemingly bandaged man. Certainly, the young man seemed like a race that Mesuka had never encountered; dressed in common clothing like any person, but possessing the body of a mummy. The Lycan's curiosity only increased as she listened to the two's conversation as she approached.

“Assuming it would not be too impolite of me to ask, would you tell me about… what you are?”

"My thoughts exactly.", Mesuka added as she quietly sat down by the two, trying to scan and find some sense of familiarity in both Griffin's and Ethra's races. The Lycan swore she had read about the bagoyep species before in her first year, but could not remember the specific details of the alleged "owl men". Griffin, however, she had no leads. Perhaps it was just a Lycan thing to be terribly curious. "Pardon my intrusion, I'm just here to study, but I'm a might curious of his origins myself.", the Haka-born explained, setting her books down and looking at the Eaten with pure attention, her eyes becoming soft and attentive. "If this was a more personal conversation, though, I'm fine with leaving you two to talk."

Ash

"My name is Haka-Mesuka."

Ash, grinned a bit as the woman gave her name, he wasn't sure why she still seemed hostile, but it seemed to be at least restrained enough to tolerate his presence a bit longer. The lot of them meandered to the library where almost immeadiatly Mesuka bolted to Yg'ntha the librarian, she asked about a few books, surprisingly all books he had read in the past couple years, all but the one about magic. What was it the she needed those for? When she mentioned the Haka, that was clue he wanted, a cultural study. Ash made his way to yg'ntha as well, after Mesuka went off to interrogate a few other poor readers, hopefully she didn't murder them in her mind like she had him.

"Hey Yg'ntha, I was hoping perhaps..?" He asked somewhat vaguely, a seemingly sly question.

"I k̸n͝oẁ wh҉at҉ you ͢s̨ee͢k̡,̛ ̵t͡h̢o̢u̡ǵh,̷ I do ͡n̢ot̷ qu̸ite̷ ąp̧pr͢ove ͢of ͜this ̀cou͢r̸se of̢ ̸st̶ud͞y͘,̧ ͡át͢ ̵l̛eas̕t͜ ҉n͡o͢t foŗ ҉y̷ou̸r kin͡d.͏" The sound pierced through Ash as always, this being was not one he liked to deal with, but it was the best way to find resources. The being lifted a tentacle and set a book bound in leather, no lettering adorning it. "̸T̨h͡e͞ w̴o̢l̢f slàyers ćode̸x,̧ ͞a͜ ̶hu̴nte͟rs͝ m͞an͝ual ̡t͞o͡ s͏l̵áy̷in̶g w̶eŗewolve͘s̸."̢ Ash put his hand up and tried to hush the being.

"Not so loud." he looked over to where the others were, they seemed out of earshot, "That Haka girl, she seems to dislike me, not in the, not going to sleep with you way, more the, cough during her soaps and she murders you way, and you aren't going to be the only one that disapproves of my study." Ash tucked the book under his jacket as the librarian wrote down his name in it's checkout log. Ash went over to the spot were Mesuka was, "Well Mesuka, not to interrupt, but I have to be going. I hope you find your study well." He gave a nod to the two she was speaking too and turned to leave.

Mortem

After hearing Mesuka's kind offer to spar with him after her study session, Mortem could not be happier, as the flame inside of him turned slightly white, while Cerberus did not seem to be pleased. But oh well, traditions...

Grabbing the notebook from the luggage, Mortem followed the Haka-born out of the room, and to the library.

XXX

Arriving at the old usual library, Mortem found himself greeted by a familiar sight, whom he had been acquainted with for the last two years here: Yg'ntha

"W͝e͏ĺcom͏e b͏ac͟k͝ Mor̢tem̡. ̨Y̵oư ḩav̵e͢ ͜a ͟n͢ice̶ ̀vaca͟t̡ioǹ?"

Mortem wrote on the note

'Fine.'

"And ͠d͘i̶d ̛you̷ man̛age͏ ̕tơ ͢bl̨en͜d i̡n̸?"

'A bit. They were still afraid however.'

"Well, y̧o̸u'̢ll ̵f͟įnd̷ a̢ ͡pl͠a̛ce͜ s̷o͞o͝ǹ." She conversed more naturally, as Mortem was a very common guest. Then the skeleton went straight onto the subject

'I'm looking for a modern philosophy book.'

"O̵f̛ co͘u̴r̀s̨e,͏ I h͢a҉v͘e jus̶t͜ the͢ th͘in͡g for̕ you.͞ ͏It's ca̵lļe͜d Húmaņ C͞on҉di̧t͜i͡on.҉ Al̢t̶houg͞h ̸wŗitt͡en̵ ͝qui҉t̶ę ͝ne̴a͝ŕly t̀w͡o̴ hun͘d͘r͟e҉d͢ y̧èárs ag͟o̷ b͏ut͠ ҉it̷'̨s ̸a͞h҉e͟ád ̢of i̧ts̡ ͢time̷,̕ an̷d ͘y̸ou͞'ll̨ find̕ a͞ ̕l̛ot́ ́of̕ i̷n҉fó ͜abo͏ut҉ ̕w̷h̀at i͏t ̕m͢e̶a̛n̕s͜ ̛t͏o l҉iv̕e̸ ̵a͞ ̢húman̕ ̴li̵f̡e." She said as she brought the book to him

'Thank you.'

Mortem left the librarian with the note left on her table. Then he went dragging his armor to somewhere quiet. The skeletal swordsman was not very fond of doing such an activity, but when he finally came to it, he had to ensure he did so with maximum efficiency.

During the process of finding a perfect spot, he noticed that Ash had just left the library, and Mesuka was talking to a bandaged guy...and an owl. Well, this is a school for supernaturals after all. But Mortem could not help but be surprised and curious. If such creatures like that exists, then he might be able to inquire them about their species. Their traditions and cultures might help him with his studies and understandings about the world. And so instead of settling down somewhere, he decided to approach them.

Griffin

“Assuming it would not be too impolite of me to ask, would you tell me about… what you are?”

In the hidden world of the supernatural this sentence was fairly common, so common in fact that much of the taboo had been stripped from them. So it was incredibly obvious that something wasn't exactly peaches and cream when his normally lax body visibly locked tight for half a second before continuing with its motions, turning to the next page of the hard to read book while searched his brain for an appropriate diversion. Mentally he was kicking himself fierce for letting his guard down, naturally people would be curious of the mysterious bandage man. [i]But of course/i] he had to get caught up in his new books instead of preparing himself, stupid Griffin.

The recovery was swift as Griffin took time to stretch out his back once more, putting together the last pieces of his brilliant diversion. Stiff muscles loosening, Griffin was just about sufficiently psyched up when a quiet voice caused him to jump slightly in his seat. He'd been so caught up thinking that he hadn't paid attention to the movements besides him, now finding himself caught between his roommate and some random woman. The pressure was on and Griffin was sent scrambling, his brain sent into overdrive.

"Uh... yeah, sure I can tell you some stuff."

Griffin settled into a more casual posture, using his legs to push the chair back slightly as as he reached up to his glasses and taking them off, revealing a strip of nothing beneath. With a speed that could only be gained from familiarity Griffin reached back and pulled out a hidden tab that lead to him unraveling the entirety of his facial bandages.

"As some of you may know, I am an Eaten. S'more of a title than a uh... species. I don't really understand it myself, but from the stories say that, once upon a time, there was a group of ambitious Witches who called out to...Something. They wanted to take advantage of it's power and it gave it pretty willingly, all it asked in return was food. Witches thought "Hey, that's cool. We can do that" and went ahead and started feeding the thing. All was good for awhile but, as it turns out, incredibly powerful hunger monsters tend to refine their pallets as it were and found the offerings increasingly unsatisfying. So it ate them, flesh, bones, blood and magic. But the group of Witches pretty much saw this coming and made some contingency plans, using all their magic to stick around when everything else is gone. So they lived and lived happily ever after, had kids, spread that gene around, and fast forward a thousand years and you got people like me. Or so the story goes."

Pretty much everything Griffin said had been complete and utter bullshit, he knew full well what he was, how it happened, and that his assailant was most likely not a monster, but he'd made the mistake of telling the truth too early before. It always got him looks from people, sad ones, and he didn't care for that shit at all. So he learned how to lie about it. So sure, this wasn't a shining moment in that career, but none of them knew his tells and it's not like they could just look it up somewhere. At most he'd seem just as clueless as them, appearing as just another genetic rarity among a smorgasbord of genetic rarities. He had this.

Ethra

So… Griffin’s condition was the result of an ancient witch coven’s contingency plan, propagated generation after generation. As she listened to his explanation, she found herself just the slightest bit captivated by it, imagining all the scenarios in her head. But then, something towards the end… didn’t add up.

If the witches’ physical bodies were eaten… how were they able to procreate?

That was the one hangup in Griffin’s explanation. With Ethra’s spelling the question out in her head though, Irsk provided comment.

Either there’s details he left out, or more likely, he’s lying.

Why would he-

Do you wanna ask him?

She didn’t respond. She simply looked at Griffin as he averted his gaze from both the bagoyép and the - rather intrusive - lycan girl, in the process of rewrapping his bandages around his person. Ethra had a feeling that all this, Griffin talking about what he was, was making him… uncomfortable. She wondered, what reason would he have for lying, if he was? Maybe it was just the pressure from several people prodding him about it. Or maybe it was something much more… clandestine.

Then Ethra thought to herself… did she really want to be the type to pry? After all, she and Griffin had only met an hour ago. In all fairness, he had good reason to be restrictive with his own words.

Thus, Ethra ruled that now simply wasn’t the time to press. The Eaten and she were roommates - if anything, they’d build up to a point where some secrets could be divulged. But not today.

And so, after a bout of silent thought, Ethra said to Griffin, “That’s very interesting.”

With as much sincerity as she could muster.

Ivy

Leka emitted a low warning growl as Leon entered Ivy's room, startling her awake. In a flash she was up wielding the worn staff, the massive dog at her side. In her panicked state Ivy let her magic bleed into her features, paling her soft pink lips to a pale deathly blue and a snow squall erupted in her stormy grey eyes. Frost formed across her eyelashes and her long iridescent hair moved from light blonde to a stark snowy white, refracting the low light in her room and making it shine even more than before. Once she remembered where she was Ivy took a breath, producing a number of pretty, swirling snowflakes to form in the air in front of her.

By the time she was up and back in control the young man, who must be her roommate, had already retreated, realizing that the room he'd entered was not his own. "Leka, it's my roommate, not a murderer." She chuckled softly, setting the staff aside though she didn't pull her magic back into her, letting it continue to color her features. She patting the large dog on his head, digging her pale fingers into the thick fur of his neck as she often did for comfort. As she took another deep breath, steadying her mind as she prepared herself to go out and meet her new roommates.

Leka merely rolled his eyes at her comment, pressing his large head against her as to say that she was too precious to slack in his guarding duties. His thick black nails clicked softly on the wood floors of the apartment as he moved with her into the other living space to search out her new roommates. "Hey, I'm Ivy." She spoke easily as she moved towards the dragon who seemed apt to check out the furniture and other things in their apartment. She assumed that the young man who'd accidentally wandered into her room was now in his own.

She offered a small smile, pulling her blue lips up in the corners. She was tiny compared to most but the dragon was especially tall. She craned her head to look up at his face. Leka offered up only a bob of his head in the direction of the dragon before heading to go lay on the sofa. She'd always allowed Leka on the furniture. It was called 'fur'niture for a reason. He was far too intelligent for her to demean him by not allowing him to lay or sit on possessions that could ultimately be replaced.
