@MeloWell... I'll brainstorm on their creation today and I'll post what I've got after work, since the file I created them in is on my home computer
So... I've included a history for one of the Four Great ones, tied to the clan I created for Tlalli, personality and an ability.
The other four I've left blank with only a name, how they are known to people, gender and element... If someone else would like to create a history for one of them, please go ahead. If not, I would be happy to do it.
The Serpent Dragons
A very elusive and mystical magical creatures. They are known for their immense power and incomparable wisdom. Often times revered as gods and feared as demons. Still the serpent dragons are by no means gods. Although vastly superior to humans, highly intelligent, incredibly wise and dangerous with it the serpent dragons are still inferior to the gods and their abilities.
The serpent dragons are magical creatures that draw their powers from the energies of the four elements - earth, water, fire and air. They make their dwelling places in the skies, under water, in deep forests and beneath the earth in the fiery depths of volcanoes and lava rivers.
They are a race of individuals, rarely forming larger groups or tribes. They bask in their freedom to roam their elemental domains and feed off of the elemental energies. They are academics at heart and live for study and the gathering of knowledge of any kind. Most are benign with it and won't even think to use their knowledge in any way, shape or form. But there are also those that think it a waste to simply amass knowledge and not use it. Some would share nuggets of useful information with those it may serve best. Others will use it to their own personal pleasure.
Humans would widely speculate about the serpent dragons' physical appearance as few have ever seen one. And those who have either didn't live to tell the tail, or kept the secret out of respect and gratitude.
The progenitors of the serpent dragon species were denizens of the astral plane. There they lived among the multitude of other various beings - some gods, some less than that, but all very powerful, very wise and intelligent, and very knowledgeable. The gods went on to either guide humans and aid them, or to wreak havoc on their existence. They would also occasionally engage in in-fighting.
Among the serpent dragons of the astral plane four came to desire to experience life in mortal shell. They had their astral body, of course, but the experience was far from the same. So these beings sought to include themselves within the mortal coil of humans. They concentrated on condensing their astral bodies and over time managed to solidify their forms into an actual physical being. They were the first. Soon others followed and of those the species began to increase in number until only the first four remained living, who had once inhabited the astral plane.
Those four became known as the Four Great Ones.
Abilities
Earth dragons: General ability to control the earth, causing minor earthquakes, earth cracks, sinkholes
Water dragons: General ability to control the water, creating whirlpools, immense waves /but nothing like tsunamis/, affect the currents
Fire dragons: General ability to control the lava and magma beneath the surface of the earth, cause volcanoes to erupt or explode, lava to pierce the surface and flow down mountains, or even beneath the seas and oceans
Air dragons: General ability to control the air currents, cause whirlwinds, tornadoes, sand storms
The basic serpent dragons being born out of flesh do not retain the abilities of the original descended astral serpent dragons. Their control over the element they were born into is limited to the residual astral energy they can call upon in order to control the elements.
The Four Great ones as the first to come into mortal physical form have retained their full control over the astral energies and can control their element in such a way that allows them a singular devastating elemental ability coupled with the rest of the elemental control they are capable of.
The Four Great Ones:
Opochtli/The Jungle Phantom - forest - good - male
Opochtli is a benign serpent dragon, the eldest of his race. His knowledge and wisdom is immense and is only seconded by his intelligence. He is a very solitary earth dragon that has made his domain the rain forests inhabited by the Atunka tribe. Opochtli loves observing human kind. To him they are like young children stumbling about, trying to understand what's what. Trying to figure out life in general. He will usually stand aside and be content with watching them find their own way, but is not above helping when he sees they are going astray.
Abilities:
Resin jet: Opochtli can call upon his element to breathe out a condensed stream of tree resin that would encase it's intended target, which would immediately fossilize to amber.
Zipacna/The Lava Demon - fire - evil - male
Ninlil/Lady of the Wind - air - good - female
Mizuchi/The Scourge of the Seas - water - evil - female
