Dia- Forest Interior

Dia kept her hand firm on Felix's. " There's a simpler solution than fighting over it, " she said, loud enough for everyone to hear. " I'm sure that, uh, the Headmaster and, umm, teachers wouldn't be opposed to switching things around. Err. For everyone's benefit.

Rubbing her thumb over the back of Felix's hand, she waved her free hand. " There's...b-better ways to settle t-this...

Without her realizing it, bits of the fog were solidifying around them and dropping like hail. " No one needs the added stress and all, " she added quietly, her words carrying a sight edge.

I won't let Felix get hurt anymore... she thought with odd confidence.

Silas Asara

Grade A dickhead over here, first he doesn't even show his face in our room. Then he starts making plans to get rid of me?

Silas stared Felix down as he made his attempt at intimidation, refusing to let the coward who couldn't even show up get into his head. Surprisingly though, Felix stopped after one step for reasons that were all unknown to Silas. The situation had suddenly became an aggressive showdown, both parties seemingly frozen in time with eyes locked on each other. Both sides trying to anticipate who would break the silence and tension first. Bring it on bud, you don't scare me! The voice in his head roared.

"You're right. I.. WE.. Didn't come out here for me to pick fights,"

Silas simply crossed his arms and observed as the other boy looked his seemingly injured hand over. All smoke and mirrors, aren't you Felix? As he thought to himself, Vera caught his attention from behind. Letting his angered expression drop for a moment, he looked back over his shoulder towards the girl as she spoke.

"You can't stay there, Silas. Listen, I don't have a roommate. You can stay in the other room in my dorm until we get this sorted out. It's one solution I can think of, but you need to get out of there, at least for now."

The idea left him speechless for a moment. Share a room with her? It sure as hell sounded better than having to put up with Felix. Besides, Vera seemed like a really sweet girl, so Silas had nothing to lose in this arrangement. Aside from the fact that Felix might think he was afraid and giving in to his demands, but Felix could fuck off for all Silas cared. He looked at Vera, cracked a grin and quietly responded " Is there a problem you don't have the answer to? Seriously though, I just might take you up on that offer."

As Silas turned back to face the other pair, his aggressive demeanor returned to him. Yet it was quickly replaced by slight confusion as the other girl had started to produce... hail? How the hell was she doing that? He was offered no time to ponder this as Felix spoke up once more:

"I will only say this once. For your own safety, do not become my roommate. The last thing I want is to lose control and hurt you.."

If Felix's goal was to greatly confuse Silas then he had succeeded greatly. He felt his eyebrow raise as he attempted to process what had just been said. "Umm... What? Hold on a second ...What happened to "Fuck the whole lot of you"? "For my own safety?" I- I don't get it. " He said as he let out an exasperated sigh.

"Why are you worried about the well being of some guy you just met?" Silas said as he dropped what was left of his aggressive demeanor and waited for a response.

The water swelled up and over ShiZhen's foot, then leg. "This a test, young child. Did you expect something so mild?" The head of the beast appeared over her, a glint in its eyes more that just the moonlight in the water. "The shadowbinder sends so little to me?" It surged forward, engulfing the girl completely and turning to her companion. "Such fools mortals be. Perhaps I swallow you both and demand more from the ungrateful host." The surface of the river solidified into icy scales, the elemental revealing more of its true nature. No longer quiet in its bed, the river encircled Lyra. "Have you any skills of which to boast?"

It gave Vera slight relief when Silas said that he would consider moving into her dormitory instead of putting up a fight just to avoid a little humiliation. Nobody had anything to prove - that was the first important lesson she had learnt at the academy. However, what the other boy had to say right after had her doubting that Silas even had to throw any of his pride away at all. He did not want to 'lose control and hurt him'? Sure, he would probably get into trouble with the school staff if he was responsible for anything that happened to Silas, but the stunt he had pulled earlier in the Audience hall reminded her that it was not that he was afraid of.

That warning of his seemed... genuine. It looked like he was instead, truly afraid that something bad would happen to his roommate. Was that what his unpleasant demeanor was all about? Was he really just trying to keep people away from him? If that was the case, Silas would be the one doing the poor boy a favor by moving out of there.

The ice ability of the girl cuddling up to him was beginning to act up as the fog around her started to freeze. From what she had said, she obviously knew he was dangerous, but every other sign only told of how protective she was over him. Did she somehow figure that she was the only one who could? Also, why would he let her near him if he was so afraid of hurting people? Vera was once again, puzzled by this, but recognized that it just had to be accepted, at least for now.

Vera was honestly, also confused by Silas' question. Was it strange to be concerned about someone one did not know? Perhaps the first impression that the boy had made was making it difficult for Silas to accept that he could care about anybody like that. Regardless, seeing as everyone present had somewhat agreed to a certain arrangement, Vera was anxious to leave and get out of the tense situation.

"Silas, come on..." she half-whispered, half-whined to him. "Can we please just go?"

The surface of the river solidified into icy scales, the elemental revealing more of its true nature. No longer quiet in its bed, the river encircled Lyra. "Have you any skills of which to boast?"

"Ah, err, maybe?" Lyra replied nervously. It didn't sound like she knew what she was going to do, and she didn't really, but her eyes were already darting around looking for a solution. The water serpent seemed to be swelling, looking less like a snake out of the water and more a giant rising from the river. The water surface was freezing, holding ShiZhen in place. Lyra's mind raced through that. If the law of physics still hold, the heat that used to be there must go somewhere. And the water that was encircling her, they were definitely water, though she had a feeling that if she was just going to stand there, they'd turn to ice with her inside of it.

She felt some part of her panicking. There's no time to think! Stay here and you'll be popsicle!

"Yaaargh!!" Lyra shouted and ran, throwing herself against the incoming wave. And as she yelled she felt a gust of wind carrying her and banging against the water. Banging, that was the word the popped into her head. Like someone beating the drum, the energy carried and rippled through the water, disrupting its course. But her meager power was still no match for the entire river, and she could feel the water righting itself and catching up to her. So she ran, right onto the frozen surface of the bridge, and slid to where her friend was with the tailwind guiding her.

"Hey! ShiZhen!" Meeting up to her friend, Lyra held her hand and started to kick at the ice that was pinning her leg. "We gotta move! Can you get the ice off?"

ShiZhen instinctively held her breath as the water snake engulfed her, but began to panic as the surface began to freeze over. As Lyra ran towards her, ShiZhen threw her weight behind her shoulder in an attempt to tackle out of the ice, and out of the water in the hopes of breathing again. She didn't care if she broke through and toppled over, it might help her break her feet free from the ice as well.

"Why am I worried.."

Felix echoed Silas' words as he raised the bloodied and burned bandages on his hand again, hoping this time they would be gone. Wishful thinking rarely got you what you wanted. Balling the injured hand into a fist with a grimace brought on by pain he could feel the wound begin to bleed again. His own self hatred had caused this. Made him strike the bag long after he should have called it quits.

"It's easy to hurt yourself if you get careless. Imagine how easy it would be to hit someone else. Now.. add in the powers we all have. To make a burning pyre with a thought. How could I not be worried?"

Felix felt his temper trying to bubble forward, aching to expunge the flames his stomach felt inside them. Like an inferno it stretched to every inch of his body. If not for the welcomed cold of Dia he might have begun to sweat. For now it was just a series of unpleasant internal feelings.. and a complete calm when he remembered the selfless and beautiful maiden at his side. Time would test them to see if their feelings were true or not, but Felix crushed those doubts whenever they appeared.

"The further away everyone is from me the better. But.. I've made a single exception."

The urge to kiss her again came to mind but figured there was a time and a place. For now he opted to return her hug, a wordless reminder of his acceptance. They both had problems with control and maybe even a temper but with Dia wrapped around his waist it seemed inconsequential.
Almost trivial..

"A word of advice? The way we came from has pranksters," Opting out of telling the two about the kiss, "Find a new route."

With that said and done, Felix offered a rather stiff but still seemingly respectful bow, and departed.

----------------------

Later, in the forest~!

----------------------

Felix and Dia had separated from the other group with Felix stubbornly choosing to continue the original plan of following the treeline. With all the fog it was hard to tell whether or not they were even going the right direction to win the midnight run or whatever it was called, but thoughts of winning didn't find purchase in him right now.
All he felt was the cold of the air clashing with the heat of his body.
Their walk had been interrupted twice now. Once by the trickster girls and then by his own misfortune in running into yet more drama. His exhaustion was mounting rapidly and finally it could be ignored no more.

A large tree was his destination.

"We came out here to be alone and so far the more we walk the less alone we are. Why don't you and I just curl up beside a tree and enjoy the night. Hows that sound?"

-------------------

Silas and Vera

-------------------

The pathway beneath them was a winding one, sometimes curving so much around a corner that if it weren't for the fog and trees blocking your vision you would see it running right next to itself! The headmaster and the teachers, with help from the students, had put a lot of time and energy into the outlay of tonights event.
Every so often the sound of something heavy rumbled through the stones below their feet.
As of yet there was no sign of a break in the treeline but there was the sound of water. In fact, to the observant eye, there was water trickling down the sides of the walkway very thinly. Almost as if something had overflown and leaked out.

To their right was what could only be described as a very large puddle. Out of place and calm on the surface, it shined in what little moonlight could breach the heavy fog about them to catch their eyes.
Up above, obscured in the branches, was the handler.

"C'mon.. just a little bit closer.." Jonathan whispered under his breath. Soon he would reveal the roadblock.

Dia - Forest Edge

@Zelosse

Dia looked at the tree they were moving towards. It was incredibly large, and looked fairly easy to climb in one wanted to.

"I'm not a very good climber..." she said quietly, turning her head back towards Felix. "But I can manage. But... Let me see if I can't do anything about your hand..."

Without waiting for a response, Dia cracked down in a nook in the giant roots of the tree, bringing Felix with her. She motioned for him to sit, and positioned herself on his lap, her back to his chest.

Pulling his injured hand forward, she reached into a pocket in her jacket and pulled out some wrap. "I want to be able to heal people. I forgot I had this earlier. B-but I don't know if I'm good enough for that."

She pulled the old bandages off and grimaced, gently placing her hands over his.

"I... I'm going to try to numb it and maybe get the bleeding to stop? I-I-I'm not sure. Then I can wrap it again..." she explained while she worked. "I'm actually happy we stopped. I don't think I could make it much further, or even back to dorm. I'm just so tired..."

Jideh sat up, his head foggy. The forest was still foggy too, unless he was imagining the wetness of the air against his cheek. Brushing his hair out of his eyes Jideh grunted and tried to stand up. He was supposed to be completing the midnight run, and he needed to find the fountain. The evil senior students seemed to have let him alone for the time being, and given his utter inability to feel his feet, or focus on anything more than half a foot from his face, Jideh could (or rather couldn't) see why.

"Hello?"

Jideh was tempted to give up and try to find a way back to the dorms for a shower and an actual nap. Maybe raid the pantry while he was at it. His first night hadn't gone particularly well all things told, and he desperately needed sleep. Jideh never had seen the fun in stuff like this. It usually ended with him exhausted and feeling used, or at the very least underwhelmed.

"Kanako? Did you leave or-"

Jideh cut himself off and tried to stand again. His feet were blocks of pins and needles, which made standing a taxing proposition. Hmm. He decided to lie back, and wait for the fogs to roll away from his brain. One of two things would rouse him;

Dawn, or another human being.

In retrospect, Kanako should've seen it coming.

It would make sense for the seniors to have an air elementalist with them. And it would make even more sense for said air elementalist to be better at her on the whole controlling wind thing.

Tried as she might, Kanako's wind never reached their target. Instead, her own wind ended up being used against her. And so she could only watch wide-eyed as the gale rebounded at her and her surroundings. Thanks to the shock, she ended up losing consciousness, even though she wasn't hurt that badly. Her opponent must have intentionally controlled their wind to avoid her.

"Uuuurrgghh..."

When she woke up, she woke up with a terrible headache. Thankfully, it soon abated as she slowly rose up to her feet.

She groggily looked around, searching for any signs for her partner. Hmm, he wasn't anywhere nearby? Perhaps he had been thrown off by the wind?

Speaking of the wind, she just noticed how there was now a huge circular trench around her. So that was created by the gale? Her heart leaped for a second. She never imagined her power could ever become that powerful.

And when she graduated from this academy, she would be just as powerful, if not more.

As she walked near the trench, she finally found her partner. The boy was lying down face-up on the ground. She thought he had gone unconscious but when she arrived, it turned out that he was merely resting.

"Y-you alright? L-let me help you get up," Kanako said, offering her hand as she crouched, once again unknowingly showing her panties to the boy.

Jideh took Kanako's hand and smiled woozily.

"We were supposed to go to-" Jideh burped, and then his stomach growled. Ouch... "-To the fountain right?" The boy started rubbing his legs, to massage feeling into them. A slight hiss escaped his clenched teeth as he felt the pins and needles rushing down his legs to the bases of his feet.

In what would have almost certainly been a drunken stupor, had he not been absolutely certain he was sober, Jideh accidentally slipped onto Kanako's shoulder.

"Sorry 'bout that. Think I overdid it..." Jideh paused, blinked a couple times, and breathed out slowly. "Maybe we should make for the dorms? Or the fountain? What do you think?" Jideh leaned back clumsily, looking down at Kanako, a questioning look in his eyes.

"W-woah, be careful," Kanako said when Jideh stumbled off-balance when he tried to stand up. She didn't mind at all that he was leaning on her shoulder.

"W-well, if you're feeling well enough to continue, then we should go to the fountain. I have a feeling we're pretty much behind though. But if not, then we can go back to the dorms. Really, this whole thing has stopped being worth it ever since that giant spider thing appeared. Though I suppose I get to learn how strong a wind elementalist can be after proper practice and learning."

Silas Asara

Silas watched the other pair with a mix of curiosity and anticipation, keeping his guard up just in case Felix tried to pull something. He didn't really believe that Felix was looking out for his safety, how could he be being honest? This was the same kid who insulted the whole school and threatened him, not to mention that he was apparently planning to kick him out behind his back. There was no way he was being sincere, this had to be a cowardly facade! I'm too smart for that Felix, I see right through your bullshit!

Not only was he threatened by Felix, but now he had the gall to try and lie to his face as well? He might as well be spitting in Silas's face at this point! Involuntarily his face shifted from a look of confusion to one of disdain and disgust for the boy standing before him. He could feel a storm rising inside of him, waves of anger crashing into each other, threatening to become an unstoppable, uncontrollable maelstrom of rage.

"Silas, come on... Can we please just go?"

Yet just as fast as the emotional tempest gathered was it dispelled by Vera's plea for retreat. Silas looked over his shoulder and as his gaze met her face, he knew that they should leave, even if it was only for her sake. Felix was in the wrong here, Silas had no doubts about that, but there was no reason for him to let Vera witness or get caught up in his anger. He closed his eyes for a brief moment, and exhaled as he turned to face the girl at his side. "Fine... we'll leave" He said just loud enough for her to hear.

"It's easy to hurt yourself if you get careless. Imagine how easy it would be to hit someone else. Now.. add in the powers we all have. To make a burning pyre with a thought. How could I not be worried?"

The other boy's words brought him back to his senses, as he spun back around to face him. In fairness, Silas could see why their powers could be cause for worry, but they were still without any real training of how to use them. What was the worst they could manage? The strongest use of elemental power from a first year he'd seen was Zafi's explosion in the hall earlier today, and even that was only a minor annoyance. There was no way that Felix was capable of something powerful enough to really hurt him, right?

Felix kept talking, but his words fell on deaf ears as Silas was more focused on what he would say next. He needed to make sure Felix knew he wasn't scared of him, and that he didn't buy his excuse.

"You want me out? Fine I'll go, but don't think your threats had any impact. I'm doing this because I want to. I'll be in there for a few minutes after this to pack up my things. Then I'll fuck off and you wont have so much to 'worry' about." He hissed to the other boy, his tone venomous and spiteful.

He watched with folded arms as Felix bowed and took the other girl with him, and finally he and Vera were alone again. "Right then, let's get going." He said as his former anger seemed to fade from both his face and demeanor.

The path was like a serpent, coiling around and beside itself, the trees and fog only adding to the feeling of confinement. Silas could've sworn he heard rumbling, but he chalked it up to it being one of their stomachs seeing as they had been out here for so long. Something he did notice however, was a thin stream of water running down the side of the path. Just further ahead there was a very large puddle, serene and undisturbed covering one side of the path, presumably the source of the stream. As it was, it was an oddity and nothing more than that , though a certain feeling of dread had crept over him. "Vera... something's not right about this..." He whispered to her, unsure if there was any real danger or if his vigilance was turning into paranoia.

Jideh hummed contentedly as he leaned on Kanako, feeling her added warmth pleasantly against his neck and side. Beginning to take careful steps, the twinges in his feet and legs subsiding gradually. The night air was cool, but as breezes rustled the trees and disturbed the fog, Jideh felt relaxed. Sure, they'd been attacked, but all the evidence seemed to indicate the older students knew what they were doing.

Constructs made of earth? Could the same thing be done with plants? Are they creating artificial life? Can I create artificial life?!

Probably not. Seemed like the sort of thing you'd get kicked out of the Academy for; accidentally creating a new species of animal never before seen on the planet. After all, elemental powers were hardly a new phenomena but as far as Jideh knew, there hadn't been a zoological explosion when people had first begun to develop the powers.

"Kanako, you smell nice." Jideh immediately blushed, realizing he had spoken without thinking, his mind elsewhere. He chuckled nervously, and decided to shift the subject before things got uncomfortable. "I think the fountain's up ahead. See where the trees thin out?"

Kano Hargor

Tick tick tick. Every second of the day represented in such a simple and inescapable sound. The stopwatch had been set to stop when the timer had expired, the run was not an all-night event and not solely exclusive to the first years either. Day one was the legend of its creation to get students introduced to some of the traditions and stories of the hallowed ground they trotted on.
Many more such myths and legends, some true and others not, were retold to every subsequent generation to keep the belief and sense of wonder alive. Older students pondered the truth of the haunted forest legend as they competed in the event which became far more difficult than a blind run to the fountain and back.

First years could be eliminated by being caught by first years, but fifth years on their run were encouraged to treat every moment like a warfield. Full use of their skills to overcome the teachers instead of being spooked by them.

PING~!

Kano stuck his hand towards the shrouded forest, his will reaching across every inch of it and the blanket of fog that had given it the name, and flicked his hand to the skys. Like a vacuum the fog flowed along with the path of his desire to disperse into nothing high above the treetops and allow the bright moonlight to illuminate the complete darkness of the forest paths.
Every volunteer stopped their pursuits and pranks simultaneously and began calling down from their perches to the students below that the games had ended. Kano expected the usual hospitality and friendly sportsmanship to occur as the players were directed back to the dormitory.
Whether or not there was an afterparty or social gathering to celebrate their first day at school and the strange event was anyones guess but as usual Kano would not investigate or he and the other teachers would be responsible for making sure all students were in bed and ready for the early lessons the following day..
Turning a blind eye was a better option.

To the students who had stayed awake to help make the run as chaotic as possible, he thanked. To those who controlled the zone guardians he would shower praise upon.

It had been a good night at the academy.

Kano glanced towards the the sky and the moon, reveling in continued calm of the Academy even after so many years had come and gone in what felt like a blink of a humans eye. His free hand brushed the worn leather cover of the book resting in chains at his hip tenderly.

"You would have loved it here, Sky Flower.." The words were softly spoken to the wind. Long after every student and teacher had departed from the forests edge, Kano remained rooted to the ground staring at the skies tracking the moons flight across the stars.

-------------------------------

The following day!

-------------------------------

Classes had been cancelled for that morning. There was an intended make-up lesson for what they failed to cover but most of the faculty had agreed that the first official school day after last nights event should be waved out of respect for a proper sleep schedule. With only six hours between the events end and the expected morning hours, very few students would have been receptive to trying to learn.
So instead a memo had been slid underneath every students door explaining that they were expected to arrive after lunchtime for elemental training. It was glorified free-time but students were expected to make use of the teachers and try to use their powers.

Teachers were encouraged to offer suggestions to students to help them practice control and precision. How they did that was up to each individual student and teacher.

Kano, being the water teacher, had chosen to venture to the the schools underground Hotsprings and left signage on his office door detailing where he would be in case of an emergency or an urgent request of any kind. To get to them was a very short trip through the corridors and down a flight of stair. After about 10 minutes of walking the polished stone would become a little more rough and unruly but there were 3 seperate rooms to choose from.
Male and Female bathing areas, and a third room intended for training which was much larger than the other two. It was four minor pools spread close to each other with a walkway dividing them, a large circular 'island' located in between all four. Some students new to shaping water often tried to raise a stream from one pool to the other until it overflowed back into the others. Some desired to shape warm water to cold, even freeze it. The more advanced students rarely bothered with the hotsprings.

Kano walked to the very edge of the steaming pool and idly threw himself into the waters without disrobing, the clothing simply floating atop the pools as his body simply vanished below the surface without a trace. Even the book usually kept at his hip sank below..
When a student came calling, if at all, he would reappear.

@Zelosse

Jordan woke at the usual time.

Rolling out of bed, he thumped to the floor, face flaring in pain. "Oh happy day." Jordan's room was still shadowy and gray, and as he drew himself up into a facsimile of standing position, a beam of light shot over the horizon and flashed in his eyes. Grumbling faintly, he rummaged through his bedside table and found his toothbrush. Plucking a few remaining items and wrapping a towel around his neck, he made for the door.

As he was opening the door, Jordan's foot happened to be in the right place at the wrong time, and he-

"Son of a bitch!" Jordan yelled, dropping his things and reaching for his injured toe. Cradling his foot in the doorway, Jordan whimpered. She did a number on me, that's for damn sure. Jordan coughed, dropped his foot and gathered up his things. He had a full day ahead of him.

A half-day, actually, as the note on the door of his office helpfully informed him. He'd also spotted a notice on the Headmaster's door. Hadn't bothered to read it though, since he could do that when he was actually fully alive. The short walk to the Hot Springs had helped, in that the still cold morning air had made his breath cloud ahead of him, and in the early morning wakefulness came at the behest of exposure to the elements, or so his drill sergeant had so stolidly proclaimed all those years ago.

Jordan was still reminiscing on the arduous task of pulling whole logs through mud and sleet in torrential downpours when he absent-mindedly wandered over to the baths. Setting down his towel and other amenities, Jordan stripped down. Based on the assumption that there were still no students awake at this hour and the knowledge of the scheduling for the hot springs which he used regularly, Jordan could go naked in the hot springs without any real worry of being seen. He could still feel the aftereffects of his old injury and his muscles were taut and raw.

Jordan sank down into the water with a contented sigh, feeling the heat work its way through his bones. He might not be a huge fan of water when trying to wield sand, but he could appreciate the beauty of the Hot Springs every morning he had a soak in one. Jordan was about to close his eyes when he spotted something odd floating nearby. Did somebody leave a towel behind? In the middle of the pool? A faint sense of recognition dawned on Jordan and he lay his head back and exhaled slowly.

"Hey Kano."

That must have been what the note was about, Jordan realized, as he'd known the Headmaster to frequent the Hot Springs on several occasions. He simply hadn't ever accounted for the fact that their schedules might overlap. A long silence fell.

"Did you see my-"

Jordan cut himself off, and decided to be on his best behaviour. Despite the relaxing nature of the steamy waters, an uneasy awareness spread over him at the realization that he was very much at the mercy of Kano, should the Headmaster decide that Jordan was acting too brash. Which of course, reminded him of the note he'd received before the Night Run. Which reminded him again of the Night Run, and what had happened during. Damn, but I am good at pissing off people who can mop the floor with me.

"I'm going to beat the pulp out of a student again. Thought you should know. Figured if anybody's going to be cleaning up after me, they could do with some warning in advance. He's a real hot-head. Reminds me of myself. Of course, if he keeps picking fights with teachers, he'll soon realize exactly what happens when you bite off more than you can chew."

Dia - Uh, Where Am I Again?

@Zelosse

Dia looked around groggily, trying to remember where she was. It appeared to be early morning, maybe seven judging by the light.

Her surroundings were.... Not very familiar. Or, wait, yes they were. They were very similar to her down. But this, this wasn't her down.

Not to mention, her clothes were dirty. Why was she sleeping in dirty clothes?

Movement.

Dia shifted and her eyes feel on Felix. Then everything that had happened came back to her.

They'd settled into the tree for a while, but it hadn't been comfortable. And when the fog lifted, older students had found them and told them it was over and time to get back to the dorms.

They'd been one of the last to make it in, and Dia had remembered the interaction with the other boy. Not wanting to bring someone into her dorm with not really knowing the shy girl or how she might react to a visitor like such. So she'd insisted on going with Felix back to his.

Things had gone simply enough, and they hadn't had to deal with Silas. Not that Dia remembered his name.

They'd been exhausted, and it hadn't taken much prompting from Dia to sleep alongside each other. She curled into him and fallen asleep fairly quickly.

With her bearings straight, she carefully crept out of the bed, yawning and stretching. She had some small scratches and some bruising from the tree incident, but otherwise felt alright. She looked at Felix's hand, frowning. She would have to convince him to appear at the Nurse for that.

She found the flier not long after, and breathed a sigh of relief. Tension she hasn't realized was building was swiftly leaving as she made her way back to sit on the edge of the bed.

The clinic was full of casualties of the Night Run. Bruises, cuts and even a couple of broken bones that had gone unreported until morning. She sighed as she checked on the two girls. One with a small amount of water in her lungs, the other with frostbite. Apparently they'd woken a local creek up while blundering around in the dark. The nurse tutted. This was really too much to put the new children through. Before they'd even gotten real control, even. They'd be fine, thankfully, and she left them to sleep it off, putting a flyer down next to each of them.

Vera's eyes fluttered open, the large amber orbs meeting the light that streamed in through her room window. She always liked waking up to the Sun, for it gave her the bright mood she would always start her day with, and for a moment, it felt like home. That was of course, until she sat up and looked around. Oh dear, what a mess... That reminded her - she had yet to unpack and sort her stuff out. What a night it had been, and it was all coming back to her - the trials she had gone through as well as the people she had met during the 'Night Run'. Admittedly, it was the most fun she had had in a long time.

It was hard to believe, but they actually won! What were the chances of that? Or rather, it was Silas who officially won. Right, she had a dorm mate now. Hopefully he knew a thing or two about keeping the place clean, since she never had to do any of it herself before. Perhaps some kid would be willing to do it for them on a regular basis for a pretty penny? It would have to be someone she did not quite know, though. She could not do that to someone like Silas. He was a friend, and friends should not be paid to do stuff. Friends deserve treats. That would have to wait, though, for there was still much to settle after class...

A wave of panic swept through Vera. Class! What time was it? She immediately reached for her watch and took a look at it to find that she was late. Scrambling off the bed and bolting out of her room, she wondered if her dorm mate had slept in as well.

"Silas? You still here, love?" She called across to the other room.

That was when a slip of paper right by the main door caught her attention. She went over to pick it up, and what was written on it provided her with much needed relief. After lunchtime, huh? It would be good to use the time to read up on her element at the library. For now, she could take her time to wash up and get ready for the day.

The walk to the standalone building for fire elementalist training was long, but Xavier always found it calming. It was almost like the calm before the storm, for unbelievable chaos and craziness could ensue upon stepping foot into the building itself. It was clearly located further away from the rest of the school for practical reasons - accidents involving the destructive element were probably the worst kind. However, this isolation also gave a sense of exclusiveness for the fire students.

Of course, those present at the building were still in harm's way. That was what instructors like him were there for, to ensure students did not hurt themselves or others, as well as to answer any questions they might have relating to the element. It was obvious that the first-years would require most attention, especially this early in the year. None of them seem to be there yet, though. He had been informed that students would be starting training in the afternoon.

He took a glance at his watch, before heading around the back. Guess there's still time for a smoke before they start coming in...

ShiZhen woke up in the infirmary, her extremities stinging from the frostbite. She flexed her fingers and wiggled her toes to confirm that there wasn't anything wrong besides the pain. With a shaky arm, she reached over the the nightstand next to her bed to put on her glasses, seeing Lyra in the bed next to hers. ShiZhen bit her lip and fought back the shame welling up in her heart.

The events of the previous night had been a blur. She remembered being unable to free herself from the freezing water snake. She remembered that despite the hopelessness of the situation, Lyra had stayed to help. She remembered the cold and the darkness encroaching upon the both of them.

"If only I could control my element," ShiZhen thought, "Then maybe we could have finished the race, then maybe we wouldn't have missed classes...then maybe Lyra wouldn't have been put in danger..." ShiZhen noticed the pamphlet on the table and read it idly. "At least we didn't miss classes," ShiZhen thought. Placing the paper back on the nightstand, ShiZhen flopped heavily back into bed. She didn't want to get up. She didn't want to be at this school.

ShiZhen sighed. She needed to learn how to control her element. Before it was for her own sake; the inconvenience of always becoming wet randomly really put a damper on her everyday life. But now she felt responsible for what had happened to her and Lyra. Climbing out of the bed, she spoke with the nurse and got herself discharged. Taking a look back at Lyra's sleeping form, ShiZhen renewed her resolve to learn the art of water, even if it meant confronting the scariest individual she had met at this school thus far.

ShiZhen found herself heading towards the training pool in the on-campus hot spring. A short journey to the headmaster's office, the only water elementalist teacher she had met so far, brought he face-to-face with a note of the Headmaster's whereabouts, which led her here. Still, if he was in the hot spring and actually bathing, it would be prudent not to just waltz in and catch the man naked. "H-hello?" ShiZhen called from the entrance to the pool, "H-headmaster Hargor? I was wondering if you had some time...to give me some pointers..."
