but then you check out the Characters tab and realize you'd be roleplaying with a bunch of teenaged supermodels spending all their IC time shooting off "snarky" one-liners and generally being generic boring cunts with no personality, creativity, or vision.

On a completely unrelated note about people who annoy us on RP forums:

I had an old account on this site years ago before I took a long hiatus, and I came back specifically because I had fond memories of the quality content on this site, especially given how hard it is to find good writing partners on the internet. However, my return was much more melancholic than I expected.

There are so many threads that seem to either be carbon copies of popular TV/Game series with seemingly zero effort on the GM's part to devise an original, well-formulated plot or create a world for the characters in which to act, or just incredibly specific and often avant-garde concepts that shoehorn the players so much to fit the GM's design that the idea actually much better suits a novel than a roleplay. The rare few times I do find a thread with a well executed idea and a competent GM, I find that the well is already poisoned by the presence of inane and wholly unoriginal characters that seem to have been developed completely separate from the actual concept for the RP. A lot of times this is the case, as the poster will say something along the lines of "oh I have a character from another RP that died that I can use", a line which never fails to make me shudder and sigh heavily as I continue on with my search.

One of these days I may just get so tired of complaining that I'll just GM my own thread.

When you try to insinuate that I call characters Mary Sues just to spite their owners, you do more than just insult my intelligence and my honor. You also attempt to degrade the very standards to which writers hold themselves. After all, if anyone who calls anyone else's character a "Mary Sue" only does it to serve a grudge, then what else, I wonder, serves this grudge? When someone in the Advanced section says your spelling and grammar are inadequate for his RP, I suppose you can convince yourself that he only said it because he doesn't like you; because he wanted to drive you away from his thread, but was too cowardly to express that fact directly and suffer the social ramifications. And when you're booted from a game for foul behavior against other players, of course it'll be easy to blame them; they wanted you out, and it's impossible that you brought that punishment upon yourself. Clearly they only did it to hurt you.

Really, under this logic you could be the worst player on the Guild, literally the worst writer here, but because everyone else is secretly out to get you, you'll never find need to improve yourself through introspection. You'll never need to acknowledge your own faults and shortcomings because people are only pointing them out for the sake of bringing you to harm.

In other words, you want a way for writers to be immune to criticism, and that doesn't fly with me.

So I guess you're right. I'm "defensive" because you're making up lies about me, but I'm mostly invested in this exchange because your backwards arguments make far worse implications for the hobby as a whole.

Just because you were mentioned in a post saying that people have a tendency to label anything they dont like as a Mary Sue doesn't mean it is about you.
Just because the two fears you mentioned were both fears of my character in a thread we were both apart of doesn't mean it is about me.

Also again, by personal bias, I did not mean a grudge, I meant that the Character rubs you in the wrong way. That could mean that you think they are a rip-off, that they are not well done, that you just hate characters with glowing eyes or the name could just bother you. Haven't read through everything yet but I can see the topic at had has turned toxic. Drop the arguments and change the topic. If I see any posts after mine that bait or argue against other members I will reward them with a week long holiday for one.

@Mercenary Lord When you wrote something and thought it was really great at the time, but four months have passed and now it's fresh garbo. You either grudgingly tolerate its existence as something you wrote when you were less talented; or go to great lengths to expunge it from the internet, hoping no one will ever suffer it again because you don't want it to represent your current standing as an author.

I love when people make dumb fucking assumptions when you make a complaint. I mildly comment comment that I don't like the fact that they're adding more land to an already large game which will make my normal laptop lag. So I get down voted a ton. In return I call the people out on their bullshit. One person just told me that since I can afford to play the game (a game that is 60+ dollars plus 10 dollar or so dlc packs of which I don't own the newer ones and the others came with the sale it was on) that I should just buy a new laptop? Oh yeah let me just drop a shit ton of money on a new computer when I'm typing this on a working one. Because I, as a jobless young adult, totally have the money to save up for a brand new laptop which I will only be use for gaming...

As for me, when you put an assload of effort and work into creating an excellent, interesting character in an RP, spending well over two straight hours working on it, and then the RP dies almost immediately and you're just like "welp, fuck."

And on ANOTHER note, because I have a lot of pent-up rage on this site and towards myself, when you're overflowing with ideas you want to turn into RPs but you can't, since you're a terrible GM. Bugs the hell out of me.
