Forgotten Heroes

I know too much. It’s the same rhetoric, different people. Heroes are a breed of people constructed by some people with money to look fancy and make pretty sounding speeches. The ideal people strive for. Politics creates division among the many. They will tell you they are for or against discrimination against Mutants, Powers, and Aliens. But it’s all a distraction to keep you fighting amongst yourselves, to continue spewing lines of hatred and bigotry to the people the politician you agree with tells you who the enemy is.

But what’s that matter? The X-men will make it right, they are ambassadors of good and justice for all. Why’s that matter? The Avengers stand for unity and equality or so you think. Humans and powers, Aliens, and Mutants working together side by side. It’s all a rooze. They are all too perfect, to selfless. They have people strive for something that is not realistic.

Like rose tinted glasses maxed to the extreme. Who don’t know a thing about the realities of life. They are more like celebrities in uniforms, who take on the pretty jobs. The ones that save the world, or save the citizens so they can be in the news. Look good for the magazines and for the people. They have forgotten what true suffering is about.

Or what it truly means to be a freak. They have forgotten their message. Because power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Money changes the minds of people and even heroes like Xavier and Nick Fury go far off the message. They are sitting somewhere in a backroom of VIP politics with the likes of Magneto, the President of the United States, the Mayor of New York, the Senators, sipping cocktails, exchanging money and making deals.

Because it’s always the people we think are selfless doing the good for all, that are the best liars. Their smiles. Their progressive ideals are all too make money. To turn a profit. The heroes like Cyclops, or Rogue, even Wolverine, have lost sight of their message because they can come out of limos, walk on red carpets with celebrities.

And many young and gifted individuals believe they can be them. Then they get hit with the reality that they are not desirable. They are of a different class of special. They are minority even among their peers. They’ll never be cherished heroes, getting their hands calloused with the hard work that doesn’t make the X-Men or Avengers or any of the other groups look good.

Just like your average worker who believes their politicians and those with money design them jobs so they can live. But there is no sweat nor toil on their brow, because they don’t have to live with the burden of hard work.

I know what hard work is. I have money. But I know what hard work is. And I know what it's like to be in between. To be able to think and not be shoehorned into a box. It makes me an outside. An enemy to them. An enemy in their eyes. I either accept their blood money or I continue to be a martyr with pockets.

Q

Xavier stares across his desk towards him. The young before Xavier was exceptionally beautiful, unnatural so. It wouldn’t surprise him if the young man was more than simply a young man and something far more supernatural. Xavier stared at the funding request or really the assistance request. Why did this young man even bother?

His years were getting to him. To be that young and idealistic, he remembers it, but his body was beginning to ache and his mind was becoming idle. He had not achieved all that he had desire, but he still had achieved something.

Yes, he believed he had achieved something at least. Despite being able to recognize the young man’s beauty, Xavier was worried he could not hear the thoughts of this young man’s mind nor could he make out the details of his face. Every time he tried to do so, all he got was a glimmering glow of light. The young man was shielding himself from him.

So he was clever and idealistic.

“Q is it?” Xavier ask.

“That’s correct Professor,” and he was a suck up as well, or perhaps he thought it appeal to some kind of greater ego.

“You have come to my school directly and my office directly, to discuss this request?” Xavier asked.

“That’s correct, I sent you a few emails, and a few voicemails. When I did not receive a question, I felt it necessary to come to you directly,” Q told him.

Xavier just furrowed his brows.

“And exactly is that you want from me, I heard something about an exchange of mutants? And that means?”

“It means I want your undesirables Xavier,”

“For what?”

“My own reasons,”

Xavier sighs and stares at the young man, he turns away looking at him hurt just a little. It was hard to read him. Hard to see him. He didn’t trust anyone who felt the need to hide their own identity from him. And exactly did he mean by undesirables anyway?

“And exactly what does undesirables mean?” Xavier asked him.

“It means I want the people you’re going to deny for any greater purpose than to continue dreaming and drinking up your reality you have them believing,”

Xavier scowls.

“Are you claiming that I have them believing something that won’t come true?” Xavier ask.

The young man shifts calmly in his seat. He can hear him smirk. Q just smirks. Xavier smiles too. Too clever, idealistic, and intelligent for his own good. He thought he could just stop a status quo years in its making. What did he hope? Expect to gain from this? Xavier folded his hands on top of his desk and simply waited for his answer.

“That’s exactly what I am saying and you know that’s what I am saying,” Q tells him in a matter of fact, but calm manner, “Are you honestly telling me, you’re going to dress the boy who can turn his body into a rubber ball into a uniform and call him an X-Men?”

Xavier frowns, stares at the door, then back at Q.

“It clears to me you have been in a few political rings or at least have had the experience around them,” Xavier tells him, “So just between you and me, no I would not have the boy who can inflate his body into a ball uniformed as an X-men. Some people can dream all they like about being something they are not, but they have to face the reality that some dreams do not come true. It is fine if they dream though, it keeps others dreaming, and keeps the X-mean as a beacon of their hope-”

“-that also might not come true,” Q cut him off, “you're selling an illusion then. You use to be against the establishment. To stand for something. You’ve forgotten your own message.”

Xavier stares at the young man. He didn’t forget. But it had to be adapted, changed, it had to evolve. Sometimes progression was one created by fabricating a reality.

“Question, Q,” Xavier said harshly, “would you say in the last five years since the Avengers and X-men teamed up together to save the world from the alien invasion that nearly destroyed Earth, has their been less violence and the people have seemed far more at peace with each other? Has that not been a byproduct of our illusion?”

Q gives a breathy laugh.

“And what about the radical divisionist that still exist? Your illusion may work on the mass population of idiots, but there are people who are not buying,”

Now Xavier laughs.

“Like yourself, but they are small portion of the population,” Xavier responds.

“A small portion doesn’t mean any less of a threat Xavier, your illusion doesn’t work the moment the secret is out. That all this, the commercials, the fame, the celebrity status, cracks and people see the ugly truth. When a regime ignores a current voice of the people, and they feel ignored, frustration boils into violence. The people’s words become bloodshed. The Avengers already started a civil war once, your illusion of reality doesn’t work,”

“So you want the unwanted ones, to what rise them up? Against us? Against the establishment, bold, but futile to come in here and threaten me directly,” Xavier told him.

“I never threatened you Xavier, while your Celebrity Heroes stand next to the actors and actresses that portray them in movies, stand next to Presidents and Mayors, and only do one thing save the world from big threats. I want to deal with the work you and them have forgotten about,” Q told him.

Xavier just laughs.

“You’re too smart and clever for you own good, very well Q,” he practically spits the last two words, “If I can think of someone for your group of outcast, I’ll send them your way. What do you want to address them by?”

“I hadn’t thought of a name, until we had this exchange, Rogue X,”

Xavier smiles. Q just smirked sardonically.

Few heroes were on Rogue X side, naturally the most who had lend some assistance feeding information to Q and eventually Rogue X computer systems were already ones outside of the establishment. Spiderman one of the few allies Rogue X have of the current establishment, even Deadpool had come through a few times.

Many other forgotten heroes who weren’t so much in the limelight came to aid where they could, Cloak and Dagger had been seen passing their exchange to Q here and there. Guy Named Joe had been seeing speaking with Q as well.

Something is happening in the background. Though no one is quite certain if they are being too paranoid by a threat beginning to form in the shadows. Currently Rogue X has been given the task to either recruit desirable, unwanted mutants, or to begin to update their current data on villains.

Rogue X Apartment

All Floor Reference Blueprints

I should mention that since the apartment is in Brooklyn New York all residents have an exit to an emergency fire escape into the alleyway. And that what I have drawn isn't entirely up to scale, but I ran out of drawing room and felt I just could mention it later.

Forgotten Heroes

January 22nd, 2009

“...and over eight different colors to choose from, Lucy Beauty products really know how to reflect how you want to express yourself as a woman,” Rogue speaks through a television screen, in the dead of the night. East Flatbush, New York was quaint, but the years of gentrification had created a historical manuscript of buildings. In the distance, far in the distance you would see the modern money area slowly creepy, and here in the heart of the East Flatbush, there was graffiti on the walls, a police car every few hundred blocks, each cashier was hidden behind a bulletproof glass to protect them from armed robbery.

“....now introducing Lucy Beauty products, Shades of Purple, eight different colors to choose from,” Rogue continues, “I’m Rogue. X-men. And I wear Lucy’s Beauty.”

He wondered sometimes if Rogue remembered places like this little places.Or if they really had been forgotten under a little highway pass. He had his hood up, wearing green, the police raised their brows at him, but didn’t pay much attention to the little powered vigilante in the neighborhood. They rarely thanked him for his help.

More or less laughed when he stopped an armed robbery. Opening the cooler he grabbed a cold water from the refrigerator and walked over to the counter placing it in front of the cashier to pay for it. You didn’t even really bat an eye these days when you saw Jean Grey giving interviews, or Tony Stark with another woman on his arm like eye candy.

All the debauchery seemed like the lifestyle everyone wanted to strive for. Robert looks at him.

“You should stop it,” he tells him.

“...stop?” he mutters.

“Dressing like this, doing it is, as the Slug thing,” Robert tells him.

“Silver Snail,” he corrects him.

“Silver Snail, Dingus Booger, you should stop,”

“...why?”

“You think you’re going to become like them on the TV, I bet just like, what’s your little friend, Night, whatever. That’s a reality neither of you are going to make,”

He was certain maybe not him, but Shadow Stalker was a different story.

“Shadow Stalker,” he corrected him.

“Yeah, whatever, I am looking out for you kid, I am old enough to know, you’re going to go nowhere with this,” Robert pauses, “Besides you didn’t hear this from me, but the APG been storming the East Flats looking for your kind.”

“I’ll...be careful,” he mumbles.

Robert just rolls his eyes and hands him his water. Having heroes was meant to thwart crime. Instead it seemed since the X-men and Avengers had gotten busy fighting aliens, and other universal problems all kinds of sorts came to these poorer neighborhoods to pull their own weight. He twisted the cap of his water and drank some. He heard someone behind him and he turned around, to see Shadow Stalker smile at him. He wore a costume that reminded him of the heroes of the past, just a black mask around his eyes and a single uniform costume, with a capelette.

“You out on patrol?” Shadow Stalker ask.

He nods.

“Yes,” he replies.

“Cool me too,” Shadow Stalker simply smiles, “I got a tip about the APG in the East Flats.”

“By Robert?”

“Nah, but he confirmed the tip in a way, let’s check it out,”

“I agree,”

Sometimes putting yourself in danger’s way was the only way to keep others safe. If the APG were here in the East Flats it was too close to their sanctuary for his liking. Shadow Stalker was already taking to the fire escapes and the roofs. He wasn’t as nimble or fast as Shadow Stalker, but he was able to squeeze out of trouble.

Simply following the trail Shadow had left him, he ended up in a graffiti filled dump behind some buildings. Puddles from rain that hadn’t quite yet evaporated sat in big potholes. He wished they had some muscle, but Quake wasn’t in town because he had some work to do aboard. It just have to be him and Shadow.

He wasn’t sure what to expect, he didn’t have much intel on APG. Then again they ran their operations through cut out cups of telephone and paper travel.

Shadow Stalker jumped down from the fire escape.

“This is the place they met last night,” Shadow says, “Maybe we should check for clues, you know.”

“Sounds like a good idea, might leave a slug here to watch them,” he responds.

“Ewww, you’re not going to do that thing near me-”

“Mhm,” he responds.
It was Shadow who made it gross, all it took was for him to produce some slime in his stomach and spit them out. It was Shadow making heavy gagging noises and dry heaving as slime began to come out of his mouth, until a slug felt encouraged enough to come out. They weren’t slugs you’d see anywhere else, they were brightly colored, like the mantis shrimp of slugs. He found solace in their company.

“Ah god you really need to get a new power man,” Shadow tells him.

“This is the one I have been given,” except now he feels a little queasy because he agitated the rest of them inside. Just settle down.

“Well the power fairy didn’t grant you a very cool power,”

“It’s helped you in the past, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth,”

He aided the slug somewhere moist, and the both of them turned when the heard the sound of a car. Shit, they weren’t prepared for this. Could they handle them on their own? He was actually starting to not feel good about this situation.

“We need to get out of here,” he told Shadow.

“What you have to be kidding me!” Shadow covered his mouth, he recognized his mistake. He looked at him with a little bit of fear. Had the people in the car heard them? They need a better advantage. Get to the fire escape quickly.

He eyed the fire escape, Shadow nodded and started to run over. Covering them in a foggy black haze. He should have more than enough mucus in his stomach and they were active enough that he could control them with relative ease. Inhaling a little bit, then exhaling, he did it again this time holding air in his abdomen before releasing a colorful rainbow of bees that swarmed out of the black foggy cloud.

Shadow grabs onto the fire escape ladder. He follows after him. Reaching for the ladder. A gun goes off, sparks from it scraping across the metal. He backs up. He looks at some humans. While a group of them behind them, three, are trying to shake off his bees.

The two not bothered by the bees or really got most of the stream were standing next to each other. A gruff, taller man, with a beard was holding a gun.

He backed up. He was boxed in. Behind him was the wall of a building. Running out meant he would get shot. He wasn’t sure how much of his hive he wanted to sacrificed to this fight. He didn’t want to harm any of them. They didn’t have powers.

“I don’t want to harm you,” he calls out.

The other large man just throws his head back and laughs. Fine he was going for it. He began to run towards the dumpsters in hopes to escape. The gun went off, the man missed him. He just needed to get out of there. Maybe he should have listened to Robert’s warning. Or maybe he didn’t fully think through what they were doing here.

No he had an idea. It was simply to check on the APG movements. He had to make sure there sanctuary was safe. No one else would do it. Those that were meant to protect them, had left them. For bigger, better things. For selling makeup, ideals, that little kids looked up to. Running out of the alleyway he enters the East Flat streets again. He pulls down his hood for a second, a bit of slime is pouring from his forehead.

Why did he have to be so gross? Even Shadow Stalker found his powers gross. He wished he could walk up to the people he needed, to tell them the horrors of the APG.

“Hey!” someone called out, leaning on the wall of a building was a bald man smoking, wearing a t-shirt, it read; Mutants must die. Purge the imperfections.

This wasn’t good, he turned to his left, but the grab his hand as he did so. Letting his glove slip off his hand because of his slime he meant to run forward, but there was another guy blocking his path. There were several cars parked in parking spots. Were they all APG members? The man behind him grabbed him by his mouth, harshly, and forcefully.

“Ah yuck, what the fuck is this?” the man says as he touches a bit of his slime. His heart is racing. This wasn’t good. He tries to slip out of the man’s grip with his slime, but it doesn’t quite work the guy is much stronger than he is to pull away.

“Maybe he as glue powers, doesn't’ matter we can make him an example,” says the man. It doesn’t take too long before he’s trying to push the man off of him and something goes over his head. A bag or sack making it hard to see.

Now, what was he supposed to do?

He’s thrown into the back of a car rather roughly. He’s not impervious to damage. He can feel everyone has activated. They are alive and awake in the hive in his gut. He also feels his own biology, such as the sound of his heart beat in his drum, along the hum and buzz of every bug in his body. He also feels queasy, as anxiety rushes over him. Someone shoves his feet onto the floorboards. And they begin to drive. He feels unsteady. It’s the only case of motion sickness he felt.

No one had taught or trained him how to deal with this situation. They were only there to keep the streets safe. They stopped robberies. They walked people alone home to keep them safe. They didn’t deal with threats like this.

It was clear the APG might have been secretly more organized than they thought. The government and other heroes would tell you they were a small population of radicals. It didn’t feel so small right now with three cars, him in one of them now.

He could send a swarm in the car, but that might cause an accident. He could coat himself in slime and make his escape that way. Though that seemed highly unlikely considering his wrist and ankles were bound rather tightly, so much it was cutting into his skin.

Which often bruised easily in the first place.

He was starting to panic. He needed to get out. Do something to get out of this mess? Though his own adrenaline as making the insects more agitated. They did him little harm, other then end up where they shouldn’t. He tried to send them empathetic message. Calm down. We’ll be okay.

Except he wasn’t so sure about that. He wasn’t so sure this would be an easy solution. Several hours of turning and jerking. He heard the sounds of a car door, then the sounds of a garage door. He was thrown onto the cement.

There was excited murmuring echoing in the empty space.

“Brothers, tonight we have caught the mother of all mutants, turns out he attack Tony and Smith with some bees,” one of the men spoke, he imagined it might be the bald man from earlier. The man leans down and the only reason he knows that is because he hears his pants rub together, and him breathe close to him, “You fucking disgust me attacking innocent human beings with your powers. It’s all the same with you motherfuckers. First you take over our television. Then you save the world. Now you walk our streets to keep us afraid.”

“I am trying to keep everyone safe,” he mumbles through the sack.

“Huh, I didn’t fucking hear that,” the man sneers, “You think you’re better than all of us. You trollop around in your little costume. And think you a fucking hero. I’ll tell you who the real fucking hero of America was, real soldiers, hard working men and woman. Who are out of a god damn job. Because heroes can fight our fucking war. Because everyone wants a god damn super soldier. We’re being replaced. Because of fuckers like you. And tonight we’re going to make a lesson out of you. Scream good for us. Okay.”

“Down with Powers!”

“Down with Mutants!”

Some of the other men begin to chant. Sorry guys, he didn’t know what to do in this situation. He was waiting for a hero of the heroes to swoop down, call him a kid for getting in more trouble than what it was worth. But no one was there to save him. No one was there to help or aid him. They didn’t have people like that.

He either had to save himself. Or die for making a foolish mistake.

“Come on help me take his costume off!” snaps one of the guys. His bindings are untied. Now was his chance. He scrambles up quickly using his slime to slide to the other side of the room. He takes off the sack.

He was sorry for this. He didn’t want to harm these men, but he had no choice. He inhaled. Then exhaled. He inhaled one more time holding air into his abdomen before releasing a rainbow colored swarm of bees.

A cloud of bees agitated by his agitation came swarming out aggressively towards the group. He began to run towards the back where he spotted a staircase. He went to run from there, but one of them when he tried to escape hit him across the head with a bat.

He landed on the ground with a thud. The swarming of bees could be heard as men were screaming in pain. His head was throbbing as blood ran down his forehead. Shit. He tried. The world became blurry and fell into darkness.

January 25th, 2009

Those getting up and getting ready for work in Brooklyn turned to scoff to the building protected by a fence and something about a security system they didn’t know about. There was a lot of tension brewing, a lot of rumors beginning to escape people’s lips. Some mirrored the views of the Anti-Powers Group, the APG.

They feared the mutants in that apartment building were someway to overthrow or plot against them. There was a lot of, down with powers movement going on and someone had tagged one of the buildings gated pillars, again, with a sign that read; Get Out.

Aliens that attacked New York, destroying half their infrastructure. Superheroes who were praised these days as celebrities. Clearly they were looking to overthrow them. Take over their city. That was the APGs rhetoric and it grew and grew because the claims were ignored and allowed to fester into the oncoming storm.

Here was the beginning of ten individuals, who could be many more individuals over time, sleeping in apartment where tensions of their presence grew and grew and grew. They could feel it, the dirty looks given to Garfield whenever he did leave.

The pity they gave Serenity because she looked like an ordinary the girl. The look of shame they gave Duke. And some of the members couldn’t leave the apartment without fear of ridicule, or simple mockery. While true Umbra rarely left his pocket dimension, he couldn’t simply waltz out and expect anyone to accept him.

They casted sad looks at Riko, she was too young. They feared Jed, and that crazy monkey thing they had with them. Dominic was just a loser, an unwanted, homeless, and a freak, that’s just sheer disgusting and their disgusted looks always proved it.

No clearly they saw them as the enemy. Someone had to be blamed. Someone had to take responsibility for the lives and deaths of so many Normal people if they hadn’t began to show up. When the first mutant freak was born they should have culled them before they could breed.

There had been a relative time of peace. But that has slowly sailed downhill into rhetoric of bigotry and hatred. When mutants had been seen to have been given some level of respect, people stood up, fought back. Give me back my Nation.

It hadn’t always been this way. The neighborhood had once been stable. But everyone believed the building they resided in when it was announced to be condemned should have been given to low income Normal people. Instead the city district asked the neighborhood if they would allow mutants to enter that apartment.

While they know what they are. They rarely know what they do. And to some that scares them. To others it angers them. Others turn a blind eye. And others are paranoid, suspicious of their activities.

9:00 am

She had always been an early riser, the morning time often made her feel refreshed and ready for anything to come. While Timothy had always been the one to stay up all night, his glasses lie on the nightstand and him sleeping peacefully right next to her. His black hair scattered across his pillow, she kissed him on the cheek.

“Sweetheart, wake up,” she tells him nudging him awake.

Timothy groans. Clearly agitated from being awoken. He stares at her half asleep, but this was often the only time he agreed to anything. She smiles at him and he smiles back at her.

“What?” he asked sleepily.

“Let’s go to a haunted house,” she tells him, clearly more refreshed than he is.

“Not my thing,” he tells her.

“What you’re scared of something?” she laughs.

“No, nothing phases me,” he tells her.

She bites her lip and decides to test this theory. She suddenly claps her two hands in front of his face. He just stares at her half asleep and groggy. He didn’t even blink or flinch.

“Woah,” she says.

“I know, right,” he smiles.

“Ah baby, are you going to leave me all alone?”

“You’ll be fine, they’ll probably kick you out because you’ll punch an actor in the face for scaring you too hard,” Timothy laughs.

“That will not happen,” she tells him.

He just smiles and laughs. She frowns and pouts her lips.

“What’s so special about this Haunted House anyway? And who opens a Haunted House in January?” Timothy asked.

“This isn’t just some random Haunted House, the Haunted House they had in Luxembourg burnt down and are touring America using the cash proceeds to build a new Haunted House,”

“Huh, have fun,”

“Who I am going to go with?”

“You’ll figure it out,”

She hated when Timothy was right. It was more than likely she’d punch an actor in the face for being too scared. But she could not do that. She needed good relationships with these Haunted House actors. They had such nice costume design, she needed to know their secret. She needed to know the fabric of that cute robe. She needed to know to make a Halloween version of Blue Swallow’s outfit this year. It would look very cute on her.

Going into her closet, she began to pick out a wig for today, and an outfit. Ugh she was going to have the lug the superhero bag around. It wasn’t as cute. Putting on her red pants and vest, she placed a moderate amount of makeup and smiled. Timothy had already went back to sleep. She left her bedroom to make sure Riko was awake.

“Riko, you want candy and sweets and goodies?” Serenity called out.

Riko quickly came out of her room. Her hair a mess of bedhead, wearing sweet pajamas she bought her.

“Yes,” Riko said drooling a little bit.

“Okay,” Serenity said, “Then get ready cause we’re going to a place where you get goodies.” She turns her attention to her phone, “Aimi.”

A picture of the AI sleeping is on her screen and Serenity flicks it. Aimia wakes up sleepily, a question mark bubble pops up on the screen.

“Yes Serenity,” Aimi calls out saluting her.

“Make an announcement, all Rogue X members need to be awake and in the lounge in fifteen minutes, I have an important message to make,”

“Yes Ma’am,”

In no time the automated intercom went off and Aim’s voice could be heard blaring.

Will all Rogue X members please come down to the lounge. You have fifteen minutes to get ready. I repeat. All Rogue X members please come down to the lounge. You have fifteen minutes to get ready.

With the announcement out of the way she would start some coffee and leave the pot full with at least two glasses left in the pot for Timothy. She stared at the apartment, how long had it been now? Four years actually, at least for her. Some of the members were newer and their numbers would slowly grow, but Rogue X had a motto. No one would be left behind. It meant everyone had a part to play. Apartments that seemed once lonely were now beginning to fill. They still had many rooms to fill, but she wondered what this new sanctuary would like once they got the brought people here. They could have quite the family.

Family, huh? She wondered where Jayden might be now that she thought about it, if they found him, perhaps she could bring him here. There set the pot to go with six cups of water, she leaned on the counter space she had. The floor plans were all open plans, the dining room dipped into the living room. She loved that living room, it had a little here and Timothy in it.

She chose the crazy checkerboard rug he wasn’t fond of and he had his ugly old beige couch he refused to give up. She put up the crazy wall art of pictures big and small to make a pattern, he hated it too. But then he just had his depressing black and white alleyway photo on the other end of the living room.

Yes, Serenity was excited to see what kind of Rogue X they would create. She wished the neighborhood would be more opening. But what did she expect them to think of them here? Except that it would be entirely unfair if she just asked everyone to start being normal.

Coffee was gurgling air and she took it off the heat, pouring it into her travelers mug, she was about to call out for Riko to hurry on up. But the girl was already out of the room in one of the cute dresses she bought her.

She brushed Riko’s bangs out of her eyes and handed her a breakfast sandwich she had warmed in the microwave.

“Eat that for now,” she said.

Leaving the bedroom, she felt a twinge of sadness that Timothy would not be coming. But she felt everyone needed a break. Not that anything significant had happened, but the tense air outside. The anti mutants sentiments, the stares they got. She thought they needed another bonding exercise. Staring at the stairs then the elevator.

“We’ll take the elevator,” she said. Entering she pressed the Star for the main floor and in no time, one horizontal downward push of gears and wires, they were on the main floor. Riko happily nomming her egg sandwich with a swish of her tail. Now to wait for the others she thought while walking into the lounge.

Garfield felt a jolt and he woke up. He was sweating and his heart was beating so fast that he felt like he just came back from another mission in the field. But, he did not know what had caused this. He does not remember his dream. He tried to think back, but all that came back to him was a black image. He slowly sat up and looked around. His room, stationed on the first floor, had been reconstructed so that the room was blast proof - so that when he unknowingly thrashed around in his sleep and accidentally threw something, it would not blow another hole in the wall. It had been quite expensive but well worth it. It would have been much more expensive to keep on repairing the walls, after all.

He turned to his clock.

6:00 AM.

The bright red numerals stated. He did not feel that he lacked sleep - in fact, this was supposed to be when he would wake up. Usually one of the first to rise, if he wasn't mistaken. This might have been due to the fact that he was trained in the military but he felt that training slip from him, as they would wake up earlier than that. Nevertheless, Garfield quickly made his way around, taking a short shower and then pulling on a white shirt and cargo pants. He began making pancakes, taking his time. While, originally, he had wanted to cook for everyone, it became increasingly obvious that the fact that they all had different kitchens meant that they would often cook for themselves so he ended up just making one for himself.

Garfield took his time with eating. By the time he was finished, it was around 7:30, as it also included him just lounging around and watching some television to past the time. Seeing that it was quite late and he'd better get a move on, he stood up. He took a bondolier and slung it over his shoulder. He then wore his gloves and made his way outside. As expected, it was still quite empty in the ground floor.

As if on auto-pilot, he made his way outside. As expected, there was another sign there, placed by the many haters of their kind. He wasn't blind to the glares he was being given every time he exited the apartment when they were around to buy something from the convenience store. He preferred to ignore them. Serenity probably wouldn't like it if he decided that maybe one person could make do without an arm, or if someone could spend a night in the ER for a bloody face and multiple broken bones. He looked around and saw an elderly couple walking by. He had half a mind to greet them but when their eyes met - the couple narrowed it into a glare and started hurriedly walking pass.

The greeting, of course, died in his throat. Four years and he still hadn't gotten used to not greeting the elderly. His mother's teachings were quite deeply rooted. He let out a sigh before exiting the gate and taking the sign down. He could get rid of it now, no one would wake up. It was light and would barely make a sound. Or maybe Serenity would like to see it? Being their leader and all that, he wondered if the woman would like to know that another sign had been propped up. Figuring that she already expected it, he threw it down and it created a very minuscule explosion comparative to that of a pop pop firework, albeit a little louder.

No one seemed to have noticed. He locked the gate and then went on to have his morning jog around the neighborhood. It was always best to do it early in the morning. He had set a time when if he woke up late, he would have to run on a treadmill. When too many people were milling about, a peaceful jog is the farthest thing he could think off. Halfway back to the apartment, two kids were running towards him. Slowing down, he allowed the children to catch up. A big mistake on his part really as the two brandished water balloons and pelted them at him. Drenched, he quickened his pace back to the apartment.

"Monster!"

"Get out of here!"

Their voices carried through the neighborhood and other parents seemed to have filed outside. Garfield swung open the gate and locked it once more. He wasn't used to children mocking him, wanting him to disappear from their lives. They usually just stayed away or looked at them with awe - because they were children and they looked up to them as they had powers. Perhaps their parents were less accepting and more open about their hate of mutants. Perhaps they were not children but rather teenagers? Thought a little prank at one of the residents in their apartment was a good laugh. His head was hurting and he had to grasp the wall to keep himself from falling. There was nothing more he'd like than to teach those two little bastards a lesson on who they ought to mess with.

Just at that time, Aimi had announced through the speakers that they would meet in the lounge. Garfield seemed to forget about being wet or being angry and turned immediately to the lounge. He sat down on one of the seats and was facing the door. Once Serenity and Riko came in, he greeted them, "Good morning."

It was such a beautiful day. Chibi was reclining comfortably on a hammock; A large banana split rested on his stomach. The fluffy monkey devoured the treat, and yet it never seemed to get smaller. A pleasant warm breeze stole the chill from the ice cream. Chibi had a huge spoonful with a massive chunk of banana encroaching upon his mouth; Anticipation filled the tiny simian.

Will all Rogue X members please come down to the lounge. You have fifteen minutes to get ready. I repeat. All Rogue X members please come down to the lounge. You have fifteen minutes to get ready.

Chibi screeched as the speaker next to its head blared, shocking the monkey out of sleep. Tumbling off the weight machine he had been using as a bed, Chibi hit the floor scrambling. His head swiveling looking for the source of the voice in his sleep clouded mind.

Dawning on him he realized exactly what happened. He muttered disconsolately, “Chibi.”

He wasn't finished with his banana split, and was depressed that it didn't exist. Frowning he attempted to reconstruct the message that ripped him from sleep. Chibi knuckle-walked across the hall into the lounge. He raised the fruit bowl Serenity kept stocked for random snacking, crunching into an apple as he climbed onto a perch in a corner.

“Chibi.” He greeted around a yawn.

Duke had been up for a few hours now. Early to bed and early to rise had always been a popular saying of his and today was no different. His morning routine was a simple one at best, get dressed at 6, wash at 7 and then eat around the 8:30 mark. It wasn't often that he was ever interrupted from his schedule and even less so when it was a group meeting.

The announcement from the speaker system in his room took him momentarily by surprise but he continued on eating the boiled egg he had prepared. Duke muttered to himself, "Damn robo-girls, what's wrong with a good old nudie mag?" 5 Minutes later breakfast was finished and his plate was tossed into the sink with the rest of his crockery. Really the sink was just a formality to him. When you live on the road, you don't waste water on things that barely need it. Old habits died hard for Duke.

Strolling to the exit of his apartment, Duke picked up his cane standing next to the door, and his treasured John Deere Cap. Placing it firmly on his head, he opened the door and ambled out. Duke did not bother to close his apartment door fully, after all, there was no-one in the Rogue X building that would want to steal from him and anyways, he didn't have anything really worth taking. Dukes thoughts briefly drifted to the monkey but he had no worries, "Aghh, what the hell. If he goes in there he might even do the washing up for me."

JED awoke at 8:30 AM, his system slowly booting online as his battery finished recharging. He automatically powered himself on after reaching a full battery, a vain attempt to compensate for his short battery life. Of course, having to spend a majority of the day offline was by no means efficient, but what could he do about it? Instead, JED stressed over the growing crowds that almost constantly surrounded the apartment building. They had always been a problem, but they were rapidly growing as the number of mutants in their ranks increased. JED respected their right to peacefully assemble, but they made it somewhat difficult to leave the apartment. In fact, most of the time, JED had to sneak his lumbering body through the emergency exit, doing his best to hide his monstrous body. JED didn't enjoy their hatred - well, to be more specific, he didn't enjoy their hatred towards his actions. JED was perfectly fine with their anger towards him - it was unjustified, but they were entitled to their opinions. They couldn't do anything to hurt him because of his durability, and their words could be ignored. But they were also the people that hated everything he did - every time JED tried to work at the soup kitchen, he was rejected because the homeless wouldn't take pity from a monster. They wouldn't allow him to assist with construction or any other charity work, refusing to be helped. Thanks to that, JED was forced to spend most of his time cleaning the apartment building or doing menial chores. Slowly, the robot realized it had not turned on it's sensors, and slowly, the world came into view.

The boiler was humming gently, and the breaker was directly to Jed's left. The outlet, the only one in the room, was completely empty. The room itself was barren, devoid of any customization or personalization - it was your typical boiler room, made of metal and concrete. This was his room. Considering he was a robot and didn't need the comforts that humans need, JED offered to stay in the boiler room, a relatively large area that had space that would, otherwise, go to waste. This was fine by the other occupants. especially since he was out of sight. Slowly, the crystalline legs shapeshifted, pushing JED upwards into a standing position. He then began to walk at a slow, almost laughable pace, gently manipulating his arms in order to open the door - a task that requires the utmost precision. Finally, JED managed to accomplish this feat, and he slowly, with extreme care, maneuvered his body out of the small door frame without breaking anything. JED looked around - Timothy's area was, as always, heavily locked, and the washing area had no activity. Storage was locked behind a closed door, and JED had never had a reason to go inside - he didn't own a single possession, so he had no reason to. The elevator was another place that JED had never entered - he alone exceeded the weight limit, leaving him to use the stairs. Behind him, the emergency exit, the one he entered in order to escape to the outside world, was closed with a neon exit sign a few inches above it. Most humans would find it completely depressing, but JED had grown fond of the area over the last 7 months.

The slow pace eventually got JED to the stairs, which he slowly began to ascend. Upon making it to the top, JED peaked around the corner, looking at the crowd gathering outside the gate. It was large, consisting of at least 2 dozen people, all of whom held signs in their hands. They started to yell insults, and emerging from the crowd soaked, was Garfield. When the two were introduced, JED was sure to keep his distance - if he exploded, some people nearby may get very injured. He entered through the gate, and JED opened the door for him, and Garfield quickly made his way to the lounge. Just then, the announcement sounded throughout the entire building.

"Will all Rogue X members please come down to the lounge. You have fifteen minutes to get ready. I repeat. All Rogue X members please come down to the lounge. You have fifteen minutes to get ready."

Glad that he had something to do, JED began to follow Garfield into the lounge, positioning himself into a corner. He didn't feel discomfort from standing and the chairs would not be able to hold his weight, so JED simply stood constantly when he wasn't charging. Chibi was one of the first to arrive, followed by Serenity and the others. Overall, JED liked the team a great deal - they were the closest thing he had to a family, and humans were supposed to be very connected with their families. JED greeted them as they arrived waving his jagged, sharp arm.

The Nowhere

World Theme:

The Nowhere as he called it was a collection of things he had experienced throughout his four year existence. In the Nowhere he looked far less human than he did in their reality. Crossing realities was always such a strange experience because of the way they interacted and affected each other. A part of him searched for some kind of meaning of the things that would someday help him ascend, but those days would be far into a future he couldn’t possibly see yet.

Umbra passed his reflection as he watered his garden that seemed to defy gravity. Outside the glass house was the milky way galaxy glimmering across each window. His own body and face seemed to reflect the stars more, twinkling into an existence rather than simply appearing to exist. Which were two vastly different things.

He glided across the pathway as he had each flower drink water. He didn’t actually know why he did it here. The garden was a manifestation of imaginary, abstract thoughts. But it was, what was the word relaxing?

He could feel in the depths of his existence that a grudge was beginning to be born. He felt the world out there was conjuring, birthing more hatred than what it had before. The time of Love had seemed to be dying. He wondered if the Primordial of the Concept of Love had died and was wandering as a Void Child stumbling like him.

Above him in the dome shape of the ceiling he could see the apartment like a ceiling, warped and bending into shape. There seemed to be activity as people awoke. He could feel their conscious coming into existence. It must be nice to exist. He existed. He felt he existed. But at the same time something reminded him he did not exist.

Much like this place existed, but didn’t. Existence such a strange concept and been on his thoughts recently. He wondered why.

He felt his phone go off. He stored it in his Primordial body so that way it could work in The Nowhere. Aimi was calling them all to go to the Lounge. He wondered why. It wasn’t like he could go out in a non emergency situation. He could feel their Grudge, their Hate through him. They bubbled to the surface like the depths of something more. A universal sharing.

Umbra put his phone back into his body. He didn’t need to eat. He didn’t need to sleep. He found task to busy himself when they were doing nothing, but he was curious to see why they had been called to a meeting.

Lounge

To an outsider's view whenever Umbra came into a room, most simply saw a black circular shadow on the floor. Till it began to bubble and Umbra took shape. A man with almond shaped eyes and wispy hair that was almost, almost, cloud like. His body took the shape of priest like vestments with their own unique personal designs.

Umbra took a look at all of them. He couldn’t necessarily sit down anywhere, he had no shape to do so. He simply glided over to the couch behind others.

“Curious,” Umbra speaks slowly, “I feel your curiosity.”

Serenity looks at Umbra.

“Well that’s because today is an extra special exploration and bonding day,” Serenity tells Umbra, she smiles at the rest, “It’s a secret till Howard gets here.”

As she thought about it though. How was he actually supposed to go? She looked away with a nervous smile. Actually how were many of them were supposed to go? She guessed she could simply assign the most looking ones to come with her. That be Garfield, herself, Dominic, and Duke. That seemed more than enough. But she’d wait for Howard at least.

Instead she skipped over to the kitchen bar area and started a pot of coffee for those who hadn’t had any yet. They hadn’t had a moment of slowness of fun in a long while. She wanted to start to form bonding relationships, rather than what felt at times like a room of awkward strangers who knew somethings about each other.

But not enough. The only way this team was going to get itself together is if they stopped treating each other with some distance.

She smiled at Garfield, flipping the hair of her black wig she chose to match with her outfit.

“How did everyone sleep?” Serenity asked, she sometimes felt like she was the only one trying.

Umbra stared at Serenity.

“I don’t sleep,” Umbra told her.

She narrowed her eyes and scowled at him.

“How did everyone Who Can sleep, sleep?” Serenity asked.

In the center of a twin bed, in a studio apartment on the ground floor of the Rogue-X building lay Howard Fairchild. A dormant, oblong blob, Howard looked to be asleep, until a small digital clock started buzzing loudly, blinking its red screen that read 8:30 AM. Howard stirred, roiling to life, and letting out a low inhuman groan. A pair of tentacles sprung from the mass, one gripping the bed frame to drag Howard to the edge of the bed, and the other moving in the opposite direction to grope for the snooze button on the clock. Instead, Howard rolled off the bed, flailing his limbs in a failed attempt at catching himself. Quickly he grew a mouth and voice box, to start a steady stream of half-muttered, sleep addled swears.

After a few minutes spent in misery on the floor, Howard roused himself fully, sprouting a pair of legs with which to amble about the bed and switch off the alarm. An announcement came over the building's intercomm. The AI called everyone to the lounge in fifteen minutes. Howard make a soft chuffing noise, almost like a chuckle to himself. Without a need to shower or dress he'd at least have time for breakfast. Howard moved out the door, and shifted until he was approximately standing upright in his apartment's small kitchen. Humming to himself, he gathered ingredients cheerfully. When he wasn't eating for biomass, he was glad to enjoy his meals. In a few minutes, Howard had prepared a simple dish of scrambled eggs on toast, which was quickly shredded to bits inside a maw far too horrifying for breakfast. Still, he hummed with satisfaction.

Moving out from his apartment, Howard shifted to humanoid form in preparation for joining his companions. No sense in breaking the habit now. Moving with little urgency, Howard ambled down the hallway and into the lounge. Already the room was filling with his compatriots, and Howard's slit mouth curled upwards in a smile. It was toothy, and curled halfway up his head, but it was genuine as he greeted the gathered. "Hiya guys! Guess I'm kinda late, huh? Sorry, breakfast came first." Howard's voice was a little strained with the effort of maintaining human tone. "So Serenity, what's got us all up so early? Something fun?"

Things hadn’t really changed much. She had hoped that if the neighbors saw what good they brought they would slowly open up. Instead they had been persecuted against. Instead they were made to feel unwelcomed. She didn’t know what she was supposed to do, how to do it. To make the people here understand them. It didn’t help the media was saturated in this film of what made a hero versus what made a nuisance.

Still she stared at the group with a ginger smile and she took out a flier, unfolding its creases.

“We’re going to a Haunted House! Good ol’ bonding time,” Serenity cheered, “It’s high time we start developing more. Becoming, more of a family. I want us to trust each other not just inside combat, but outside as well. And what better way to do so by going to a Haunted House!”

Serenity laughed. She spoke rather bubbly for the morning as she always did. She was ready. She wasn’t going to dwell on the sad stuff any more. She believed that this might increase the group's connectivity.

“And, what about the group that is not entirely human looking?” Umbra asked.

Serenity flipped her hair or really her wig.

“I have a task for you as well,” Serenity said, “I thought ahead, this time. You must find a game to play together and record it.”

Umbra stared at Serenity. Bonding. To understand one’s emotions. To understand each other’s true desires. To do so. By playing a game. Like the ones of cardboard with pictures on it. Curious.

“That seems like an acceptable task to complete,” Umbra said, “I will lead this task then.”

Garfield watched as Serenity tried to break some ice off them by trying to get them to talk. Unfortunately, none of them exactly wanted to speak up to respond. He wanted to try, but he his head was buzzing right now and he couldn't think straight. He lowered his head and was now staring at floor with his right hand covering his ear. He took multiple deep breaths. He was currently unaware of what was happening, but thankfully, nothing really did happen.

He then turned to look at the mass of flesh he had come to know as Howard. You could say that the guy wasn't exactly the prettiest sight. Garfield wasn't bothered by his appearance, but he was one of the few who didn't run away almost immediately at the horrid sight of Howard walking - trudging - into the room. He was like a walking nigthmare, to be perfectly honest and anyone would stay away if they didn't know better. Garfield knew better, though. Howard was a very nice... person. The mass of flesh was a great friend most of the time and he knew how to keep the mood relatively light. Garfield has been able to talk with him whenever Serenity was unavailable - though kept a relatively high amount of information undisclosed. Perhaps one day.

Garfield gave Howard a mere wave.

Serenity began to speak and he turned his full attention to her. Upon seeing the flyer, he tilted his head to the side. A... Haunted House? He expected this to be some sort of mission, but he guessed Serenity had her reasons. And indeed she did, it was for them to bond. Garfield didn't argue, perhaps it would be good for them all. He personally couldn't say much of anything but at least there would be more people to understand his odd circumstances just in case those who can handle it weren't present.

Umbra then asked, what of the others who didn't look like humans? Indeed, a lot of them looked more like monsters and could barely step outside before someone would glare at them. Actually, they were very limited. Serenity then told them what to do. Garfield assumed he would be the one who would also go to the Haunted House, considering the fact that he was human. "What time do we leave Serenity?" He figured at least showing some enthusiasm would please her. He wasn't too sure about the Haunted House place really - who knows what could happen when they accidentally do something they didn't mean to do because of fear?

Garfield pushed those thoughts back to his head. No need to worry about that. Hopefully.
