The Worlds were once one, but became shattered into many in a catastrophe no one truly remembers. Since then, they have remained separate, with great distance between them until each evolved into an individual world in their own right. By present day, the times of the Worlds being one has been completely forgotten. Now they exist as if they had always been separate, and with no knowledge of the other worlds' existence. That all began to change when the Heartless started appearing. Within the Realm of Light, each World has a Heart, a Keyhole granting access to the equal-but-opposite Realm of Darkness. From these openings, creatures of Darkness were discovered by kind-but-misguided scientist named Ansem the Wise. Ansem studied the Heartless, and the Realm from which they came extensively. His research even went as far to create man-made Heartless that he marked with an Emblem so that they could always be distinguished from their Pureblood brethren. This obsessive research eventually led to the opening of the Keyhole of Ansem's world, Radiant Garden. With the floodgate opened, Heartless overran the once-beautiful Radiant Garden until only a hollow shell of the world remained.

At around the same time, a powerful fairy enchantress called Maleficent was preparing to make her move. She'd discovered the existence of other worlds nearly ten years ago, and was now in her final preparation to begin an invasion to rule all worlds. When Radiant Garden was overran by Heartless, Maleficent moved right in and took the castle and its world for her own, renaming it Hollow Bastion. From here, she contacted a select group of like-minded entities from other worlds. With promises of power and the right to rule their respective worlds, they came to align themselves with Maleficent's plans. Only one entity stood in their way. A world called Disney Castle - ruled by the kind-hearted King Mickey - discovered Maleficent's plan and began work to thwart it.

And finally, on a tiny world called Destiny Islands, there lived three children. These three children would eventually come to hold the fate of all worlds in their hands: Sora, Riku, and Kairi. With Kairi having mysteriously moved to Destiny Islands from parts unknown, the three children plan to set out on an adventure to discover Kairi's home, and any other lands and worlds they come across in the process. But fate had other plans. A a fateful night, a storm hit Destiny Islands, and from it Heartless began to emerge and swarm. Riku, viewing this as an opportunity to expand his horizons, dived headlong into the rising Darkness and vanished. Kairi, too, was also taken away by the Darkness. Standing alone, Sora managed to summon the fabled Keyblade and defeated the Heartless boss. But by then it was too late, and Destiny Island's fate was sealed.

Sora survived and found himself in a strange town. Here he made a slew of new friends. Leon, Yuffie, Aerith and Cid; who were all aware of the Heartless and the power of the Keyblade. It was here Sora met his closest friends and allies, Donald and Goofy. During all of this, King Mickey instructed Donald and Goofy to seek out a "key" and then guard it. This search took them to Traverse Town where they joined Sora for a quest to find the King as well as Sora's missing friends. A grand tale unfolded from there. The trio traveled from world to world, occasionally doing battle with Maleficent's allies and sealing the Worlds' Keyholes along the way to prevent them from being swallowed up by the Heartless. Eventually the quest took them to the ruins of Hollow Bastion. Here they confronted Maleficent directly, as well as Riku who had joined her side in his search for the missing Kairi.

After a fierce battle, Kairi and the other missing Princesses of Heart - whom Maleficent had gathered for her nefarious purposes - were freed and awakened. However Riku was not so fortunate. A ghost or spirit calling himself Ansem had taken over Riku's body and retreated to the ominous End of the World. Sora, Donald, and Goofy followed suit, and confronted Ansem deep within the End of the World at the ruins of Destiny Islands. What happened next is a blur. Sora, Donald, Goofy, and even Riku and The King never returned from End of the World. Their fates remain unsolved.

Nearly ten years have passed. Those remaining at Disney Castle and Traverse Town believed the battle against Ansem to have been victorious despite the loss of the heroes in the process. But a new enemy soon made their existence known. All at once, fleets of Gummi Ships emerge from where Hollow Bastion once stood and begin attacking worlds one after another. This force only calls itself The Empire, its ruler remaining unknown to almost everyone outside of it. Instead the Empire was mostly commanded by a set of hooded figures calling themselves the Imperators. In response, Disney Castle scrambled to rescue as many worlds as possible, managing to unite a number of them together into a World Alliance.

With a threat of war between multiple worlds looming in the near future, and heroic figures such as Mickey and Sora nowhere to be found, things have begun to look bleak. Now the responsibility of saving the worlds has fallen onto the shoulders of anyone and everyone willing to stand up and fight.

Rules

1. No god-moding, power-gaming, meta-gaming, flaming, harassment, etc
2. GM's word is law, as is the word of any appointed Co-GM.
3. Canon characters will be entirely GM-controlled, so they are not allowed for players.
4. Canon events from Chain of Memories forward are to be considered irrelevant.
6. Canon story events will be either re-imagined or ignored. However, certain mechanics from those games will still be implemented.
7. We'll be using a progression system that will be described below for ability growth, please refrain from straying away from it.
8. Like with certain mechanics, certain worlds from future games will still make appearances.
9. We will not be following the movie-plots of any world, they will instead mostly serve as the backdrop for the overarching narrative.
10. We'll be keeping a PG-13 rating. Try not to go above that.
11. This a game, so have some fun with it.

Character Progression System

We'll be using a freeform-version of the Command Deck from Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance. With that in mind, use the various Commands from both of those games as a reference for how Spells and Attacks will work. Just like in those games, Attacks or Spells are first typed as either Physical or Magical, then typed as either one of the elements (Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, etc) or as Non-Elemental. From there, they are classed either as Basic, Advanced, or Ultimate level. The only part of the Command Deck system we'll be ignoring is the Deck size cap, as it will mostly serve as a reference list for any and all Spells and Attacks your character knows how to use. Below are some example Commands:

  • Quick Blitz - Physical/Non-Elemental - Basic
  • Thunder - Magical/Thunder - Basic
  • Fire Strike - Physical/Fire - Basic
  • Sonic Blade - Physical/Non-Elemental - Advanced
  • Blizzaga - Magical/Blizzard - Advanced
  • Spark Raid - Physical/Thunder - Advanced
  • Ars Arcanum - Physical/Non-Elemental - Ultimate
  • Mega Flare - Magical/Fire - Ultimate
  • Time Splicer - Physical/Stop - Ultimate

Every character is allowed to start with Guard, Dodge Roll, plus 3 Basic Commands. Whether those commands are Physical or Magical or a mix of both is up to you. As we reach certain points of progression I will let players know that they've earned a new Command to add to their deck. Minor points of progress will earn Basic commands while major points of progress (the defeat of a Boss for example) will earn the party Advanced Commands. Ultimate Commands, being the most powerful spells or attacks of their kind, will generally be earned less often to balance them out.

That just leaves me with Shotlocks and Command Styles. Shotlocks are a very powerful type of Command that targets many enemies at once, while Command Styles are a powerful shift in fighting style to incorporate elemental attacks or other such gimmicks into one's regular fighting style. These are very powerful, stronger than even Ultimate Commands and as such will be the most difficult to obtain. Acquiring these very powerful abilities often requires the completion of a story arc or taking a major step in a character's personal journey.

Keyblades

The Keyblade is a powerful weapon, especially in this RP's timeline where Sora was the last Keyblade Master to have been seen. The days of the Keyblade Order from Birth By Sleep is long past, the weapon has not appeared even once in the time since Sora's disappearance. I wanted to give this its own section rather than simply list it in the rules so that this can be made perfectly clear:

No one will be allowed to start the game with a Keyblade. You'll be able to earn a Keyblade through IC actions and character development, but these weapons were originally considered a rather big deal in the KH universe and I'd like to return to that style of portrayal.

Here's my character. I hope you like her!

Name: Ashe Allerion
Age: 22
Gender: Female

Appearance:

Ashe is a tall woman, standing at about 5' 10" with a build made up entirely of lean muscle. Her hair and eyes are nearly the same shade of blue, her eyes are just a tad darker. Underneath her clothing, her pale skin is marked with scars. Three, jagged lines score across her left side as well as down her back, clearly these marks were caused by a clawed beast of some kind. A few other scars mark her frame, including one across her right shoulder, which is visible through the sleeves of her top. The other scars on her body seem to be caused by sharp weaponry, rather than beast. No matter what, she never takes off her collar like leather necklace. She won't say why, but it's clearly important to her.

Weapon of Choice: Longsword

Personality: Ashe comes off as a rather... intense person. She's fierce, she's stubborn, she's bluntly honest, and she's very serious. But get past her harsh exterior and underneath you'll find someone who you may actually want to be friends with. She's overly protective, she would gladly take a shot if it meant keeping you safe. If you ask her for help, more often than not she'll stop whatever she's doing and help you, especially if it has to do with training. Despite the fact that her sense of humor is rather dark, and she doesn't find most jokes or pranks funny, she'll still laugh at them, if only to make you feel good about yourself.

Backstory: Ashe doesn't talk about her past a lot, but people have been able to put some stuff together, just by observing her. It's clear whatever world she's from is a world of warriors. Her proficiency in battle makes that very apparent. From the way she carries herself, she may have been some sort of higher ranking warrior, or nobility. She seems to sympathise with those who's worlds have been lost to darkness, indicating that her own world may have been as well.

~Command Deck~

Physical:
Sliding Dash, Non Elemental, Basic.
Stun Edge, Non Elemental, Basic.
Quick Blitz, Non Elemental, Basic.
Magical:

Shotlocks:
Command Styles:

Notes: I'm keeping Ashe's past vague on purpose, because I don't want anybody to know about it beforehand. She also has the Berserk ability, which makes her blows more powerful when weakened.

Name: Yon-Ging Nerrve
Age: 18
Gender: Male

Appearance: Yon-Ging is a brown hair, ebon-skinned youth with charming, cool features. His eyes are calm and sharp, often apathetic if not bored. He is a slender man of average height, around 5'9" or 5'10". Among the other juniors of his Academy, he ranks first on the list of the female populace. Ask any of them why and the overwhelming response would be his liquid gold eyes. His unorthodox attire only feeds the impression that he's rebellious. Despite all of this, he has a network of close friends that blames his inability to stand out on the dragon tattoo on his right-arm.

Weapon of Choice: Katana & Gun

Personality: Despite the cold nature he exudes, Yon-Ging cares meticulously for his loved ones. One or two worded response often carry the deepest meaning with him. Whether that be "What happened?" or "Need a shoulder?" its usually enough. He strides around with a strange confidence, his gait; alien, his calm; magnetic. When in reality, this perception is only his inability to create lasting bonds. He stays away from most people because of his distrust. He fears the darkness, yet finds comfort in the night silence. Yon-Ging despises illogical impulses but recognizes his own and simply shrugs his shoulders. All of this is tacked on by a craving for change, a desire for freedom and acceptance, and yet a reluctance to experience the unknown.

Backstory: Yon-Ging is the illegitimate son of a master-less bodyguard. Renowned throughout the worlds for his skills, steep pricing, bounty, and otherwise incredulous actions, Gon-Yang, is considered a myth by some. There was a time after his birth where Yon-Ging was sought after by several important organizations, before long however, they slowly dwindled to minor incidents here and there. As a youth he was drawn to the mysterious, Oniyen Nosofath. This scholar of sorts had dedicated his life to the study of light and darkness. Yon-Ging and this man often spoke of the subject, delving into the political, symbolic, and unnerving meanings behind it. Eventually Yon-Ging did meet his father, that entire year was a dark blur only meant to teach him ways of protecting himself. Gon-Ying called it "Fulfilling my duty." Life after that has been particularly mundane.

@NobodiesHero
Looks fine to me, but I do want to ask you to PM me some the backstory details so I can use it in the plot for your character. Berserk is less a Command and more like an Ability you equip. For RP purposes you can go ahead and just flavor in the Berserk stuff and use its Command slot for something else.

@DangDude
Well, seeing as the thread only just now came up, I'd say I'm very open for business currently. :)

@Renny
I'm going to assume Gon-Ying's fame only started coming about during the 10 years after Sora vanished because otherwise it clashes with continuity. Other than that, it also looks fine to me. Also, Binding Strike is technically a Physical attack since it's still melee.

This is for everyone to hear. I noticed an error I made with the Command Deck system. Things like Guard and Dodge Roll are to be considered basics that everyone already knows, so there's no need to have them as actual Commands. I'm going to edit this change into the OP as well, but the short version is you get Guard and Dodge Roll for free, plus the 3 Basic Commands of your choice. Finally, I'm going to add a secondary type to each Command: They will either be elemental (Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, etc) or Non-Elemental as a way to accommodate the various Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder elemental melee attack Commands.

Sorry, it kinda took long. I was hoping to have it up much quicker than this. I might had too much fun drawing the character and went overboard on the sketch, haha... I suppose I still need to add a short description because I'm too lazy to put colors.

EDIT: Or like anything in the magic tomb she is holding, for that matter... Didn't even notice that until just now. Whoops. XD

...

Name: Raily Nightshade
Age: 17
Gender: Female

Appearance: Raily is petite red-headed girl, standing barely at a modest 5"6 ft. A bright orange and red color scheme is a staple across her 'witch' attire. Her eyes are a glistening jade in color, with little dotted stars as her irises. Her pale skin is prone to turning blistering red when she is embarrassed, much to her dismay. Her faithful companion, Dapper, has a sleek black fur coat and wears an eyepatch in the shape of a pumpkin. The rest is pretty self-serving.

Weapon of Choice: Wand

Personality: Raily is an optimist at heart. She dreams of a future where everyone can be happy and never relents even when it seems hopeless. Since a very young age, she took upon the mantle of a 'hero' to help the weak, pushing past the pain that threatened to swallow her at the time. The young witch often endures ridicule because of her lack-luster abilities and clumsiness, but she tries her hardest to improve every day. No matter the pain, she will keep on smiling, knowing that things will get better. She can also be a little overbearing, always volunteering to do things outside her reach, or causing trouble unintentionally. But call for her, and she will always be there, with a smile as usual. Helping Raily in her daily life is her black cat, Dapper, though the latter more often-than-not is being forced along. The eye-patch wearing cat may be a little fussy, but she assures people that he is kind at heart.

Backstory: She was the daughter of a powerful family of wizards and witches. But that wasn't for very much of her life. Losing her parents and the rest of her kin was the first thing she can ever remember, and with their sacrifice, she has been carrying the burden for the rest of her life. Since then, she has vowed to stop the Empire, dedicating her life into learning and perfecting her magical talents. It has been a struggle for her, but with her best friends and faithful companion, Dapper, she has managed to achieved the honorary title of full-fledged 'Witch'. From that point on, she has been putting all her efforts into stopping the Empire wherever she is able.

~Command Deck~

Physical:
Magical:
Cure - Recovery/Magical - Basic
Same as in game.
Hex - Debuff/Magical - Basic
This is my own little made-up magic, since you said this is free-form and we didn't have to copy directly from the games. It would work as something like a minor armor/speed reduction. Single target.
Aero - Magical/Non-Elemental - Basic
Same as in game.

Shotlocks:
Command Styles:

Notes: Likes pumpkin pie.

Fair enough, but Hollow Bastion's been lost since even before the events of KH1. It was the first world to be swallowed/overrun by Heartless after all. So you'll still need to have been somewhere at the time the Empire started attacking.

I thought people still lived there and tried to fix up the world, but i haven't played the second game in a long time, so I might be mis-remembering things. I just imagined the character was born there, but has moved around since. Actually, maybe she returned to try and help the committee there. If that's the case though, than where really, is fine.
