Timeline

Over 2,000 years ago...
The Cetra are on their long journey to cultivate life on the Planet. A being known as "Calamity from the Skies" crashes into the Planet's northern polar on a meteor, gravely injuring the Planet. The Cetra gather at this location to heal the Planet. The Calamity from the Skies emerges from the crater bringing with it deceit and treachery as a great pestilence falls upon the Cetra and the Planet. The Planet creates six powerful Weapons to combat the Calamity from the Skies: Jade Weapon, Sapphire Weapon, Diamond Weapon, Ultimate Weapon, Ruby Weapon, and Emerald Weapon. Having nearly wiped out the entire Cetra race, the Calamity of the Skies is defeated and sealed in a geological stratum. The Weapons remain dormant in the same stratum as they have never had to act. The Cetra's numbers continue to dwindle, being swallowed up by the ever-growing human population. The Cetra assimilate into human civilization, but maintain their ancient knowledge and powers.

Welcome to Final Fantasy 7: SOLDIER. This game follows a timeline based on a little FF7 fandom, but as you read over the timeline post you notice that none of the famed characters from the series are mentioned. The reason why is because YOU are the main characters in this tale. This game has an overall guided plot with missions that reveal pieces of the main plot as you go. There are many roles writers can take on in this game. I want writers to bring their imagination and creativity to the game without going overboard. As usual with the fandom games I run, you do not have to have played Final Fantasy 7 in order to write in this game. You just have to have a passable reading and reading comprehension ability. I know it sounds silly, but it's a deteriorating skill on this site. Because of this, I am keeping this OOC post pretty short and straight to the point. There is enough material to read.

Please be sure to read the Timeline post, which lists the events leading up to where our game begins. You can use these dates to gauge your character's age. Overall, Final Fantasy 7 is a high fantasy game. You can find all genres coexisting peacefully in this setting. Magic is cast using crystallized Mako orbs called Materia. There are various kinds of materia throughout the series that perform different functions. For a run-down of the types of materia, refer to this article: Materia.

In Final Fantasy 7, there exist special red-colored materia that allows characters to summon divine beasts. Unique to this game and unrelated to the canon, the Shinra Science Department has been conducting experiments on SOLDIER candidates and have been experimenting with the DNA of these divine beasts. By imbuing the SOLDIERs with the genes of a summon, they create a frightening bio-weapon. SOLDIERs who show distinct potential are placed into ranks: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Class. Only SOLDIERs are imbued with the summon genome and use the materia naturally granted by their parent celestial.

In Final Fantasy 7: SOLDIER, writers are allowed to make characters in multiple roles. The current playable roles are: SOLDIERs, Turks, and Shinra Troops to include Roboguard pilots and operators. I will give a brief explanation of each groups differences in regards to materia use and skills:

  • SOLDIERs, in this game, use only the materia naturally granted by the summon genome they are imbued with. They will use no other materia due to power balance.
  • Turks specialize in natural martial skill and advanced weaponry; however, like SOLDIERs, they are restricted to one type of combat. Their weapons can be augmented with materia up to 3 materia slots. They are often identified by their iconic unisex business suits. Currently, there is an open role for the leader of the Turk division.
  • Shinra Troop are capable of using materia slotted into their gear or weaponry. The tree most common spells Shinra troop use are: Poison, Silence, and Stop. They are the infantry and the closest thing to a classic soldier specializing in multiple weapons unlike SOLDIERs and Turks who only specialize in one primary weapon. Shinra Troop also carry items that deal devastating damage such as dynamite and grenades. Some Shinra Troop are also trained Roboguard pilots and remote operators.

  • Be Respectful. This game has a Discord Chat. I do not tolerate blatant or passive aggressive disrespect to any of the writers. I encourage you to avoid bringing subjects you are passionate or sensitive about into the Discord chat. If you are unable to respect others with differing opinions than yourself, then not bringing the subject up is the best deterrence to that problem. As a GM, I do my best to be respectful. I do have an assertive and military personality, because I am military. I try to avoid treating writers like soldiers, but if you see it happen, grain of salt. Seriously, take it with a grain of salt.
  • Activity. We're all busy. We all have lives. But what we all don't have is patience. If you can't see yourself continuing with this game or if you see yourself as the kind of person to bail on a game that hasn't moved in seven days, then do not join this game. Usually by the seventh day, I am prodding people, but we're not going to rush people. During missions, I will often set a Posting Order (P.O.) with a three day movement period. This means if the person hasn't posted in three days, then they forfeit their turn. Again, this is only during missions to keep the game from stagnating. What your character decides to do outside of missions is up to you and your writing partners. If a player is inactive for 14 days, I will PM him or her. If a player is inactive for 30 days, I drop them from the game.
  • Drama. Do not bring it here. I will be the first person to not tolerate any whining. This is a No Whining Zone. I have yet to have any problems with this in any of my games, and I like to keep it that way. It takes a group effort to facilitate a positive environment and my games mostly are full of mature and respectful individuals.
  • Summons. Did someone pick the summon that you wanted, and are unwilling to give it up? I'm sorry. Choose something else. You are allowed to choose summons from other Final Fantasy games as long as they have materia/magic spells.
  • Huge Pics. Scale those suckers down or link them. There is no reason why you should have a picture that takes up the entire screen.
  • Neon/Somber Font Colors. If you're the type of person who likes to use colors, avoid neon colors and dark colors. Neon colors burn the retinas and dark colors cannot be seen. No one wants to strain their eyes to read your posts. If I see it, I'm going to ask you to change it. Please google "HTML Color Codes" in order to find a link to a website that gives you variety of color codes to choose from.
  • Max Character Limit is 3. I want to give every writer a chance to make either of the three character roles. You can play whatever role you want more than once. However, you max out at three characters.
  • NPC/Support Characters. Yes, they are allowed. Let the GM know if you create a named NPC. This named NPC has to be someone that you think other characters would meet. Other players are required to respect your creations. You can make NPCs of other roles, however, you cannot RP them in a mission.
  • Bring your imagination. I can only do so much as a GM. I cannot hold your hand and make you have fun. You have to do that. I encourage you to interact with other writers. Take advantage of the Discord Chat to be able to directly communicate with your partners and set up some interesting stories between each other.
  • No Multi-/Hybrid Jobs. Yes, someone has finally done it where they tried to go through almost every job with one character. Once a character becomes a SOLDIER, the only way out is death. You cannot be a SOLDIER and a Turk. You cannot be Shinra Troop and a Turk. You can leave Shinra Troop to become either a SOLDIER or a Turk, but you cannot be a Shinra Troop-Turk-SOLDIER. No Mary Sues.

Those of you who have had their CS approved by me can go ahead and move their CSes over to the character thread. Know that I have made a slight change to the CS to include a Date of Birth and Limit Break section. Once you have filled both sections out/added them to your sheet, let me know so I can look over them. This is only for those players who participated in the Interest Check of this game.

@DoubleHow many jumps can Alain perform before his limit break ends? The limit break has a duration so you need to list how many jumps he can perform before it's used up.

@Holy Soldier

Are we waiting for an opening post from you before we start the IC? Or is what you've posted it and we are free to go? Also, I was called in for early OT this evening so I won't have time to alter teh character sheet immediately but I will try to get to it tonight if I find the means during a break or lunch.

Sounds good. I may be able to get something up on Sunday. Mandatory overtime Friday night into Saturday morning so my goal is to get the character sheet up dated with the new required information by Saturday. So hopefully all goes well and I'm not too tired this weekend. A little annoyed my ff7 strat guide is packed up right now, great for inspiration.

I am definitely down to make a Turk Leader or a Turk that works in the field alongside the SOLDIERS accomplishing different goals, or even just go the SOLDIER route.

@Holy Soldier

So I've update the character sheet adding both a date of birth as well as a limit break to the character. If you feel the limit break if *too* powerful feel free to provide criticism or suggestions. As previously stated, I will make an attempt to get an introductory power up tomorrow or sunday. I'm also contemplating a "Hyper" addiction, perhaps used to thwart the pain of the effects of the Hades Genome. Creative freedom and all.

@Kal-ElYou can read Current Events in the IC section to get an idea of what kind of missions Turks go on. They go on missions SOLDIERs are not required to go a lot. They have special missions for their class, so don't confuse a Turk for an infantryman who dives into battle and fights a tons of baddies, they aren't called for those things. If you want a character like that then Shinra Troop or SOLDIER 3 and 2 are your best bet. I would say SOLDIER 1, but they often specialize in taking out "big problems."

@ELGainsborough
Bile Blaster: (Chances: 1 - 16, 80%) Raithen's most likely limit break, the man's arm bulges at the shoulder as if being filled with liquid. The skin bubbles and pulsates. The growth progresses from the shoulder to elbow through his hand until it explodes forth in a massive twenty foot cone of sticky, acidic bile that slowly burns through most substances metallic or natural.
Breath of Hades: (Chances: 17 - 20, 20%) Raithen's most powerful limit break, the man begins to disintegrate from the side out, his slowly being engulfed by a green smoke that emanates with the pungent odor of death and decay. The silhouette of his body vanishes in a cloud of gas before moving as if sentient, completely engulf the enemy penetrating every crevice, crack, and orific as if like air. Filling the lungs of the enemy, the Breath of Hades slowly sufficates the attackers leaving fallen husks rip with disease and decay. This disease ridden body has a lingering effect in that it is capable of infecting those who come into contact with the bodily fluids with symptoms typical of some of magic Hades Genome grants him such as poison, mini, sleep, berzerk, or confu.

Bile Blaster I need to know if it hits multiple opponents or not. So far in the description, it seems like it does. How many people can it affect total?

Breath of Hades, same story as Bile Blaster, it seems like it affects only a single target. My only issue is you state it can cause multiple affects. Do these affects happen at the same time or are they random? If they are randomly generated, then you need to come up with a method to determine which side effect will be cast.

We got our first Turk. I may make a Turk myself. I wasn't planning on making a character because I have so many NPCs lol but a Turk seems fun and hardly a burden, but I'll wait on this decision. If we get more Turks, then I'll refrain.

Also, this game has a Discord. If you want acceas to it, let me know.

Hello there. Popped by to register my massive interest with a cautionary disclaimer that as GM of an existing game in Advanced and as a full-time English teacher and father of 4, I might have to let this opportunity pass me by. Let me read up your OOC and I'll resist/succumb to the muse as it takes me.

Kazuko Kotetsu - KK

Age 32 y/o.

Date of Birth 1968 - December

Gender

Male

Height 6'1"

Weight 177lbs

Hair Color Auburn

Eye Color Blue with the ethereal glow of mako-infusion

Written Description

KK is ever resplendent in the black suited garb of the Turks. His spiked auburn hair is immaculately done and his complexion remains youthful despite his 32 years. He is slender as a lance through working long hours and missing meals regularly. He has a high metabolism since his ill-fated tenure with SOLDIER came to an end so can be seen to pace, twitch or fidget in situations that require patience and remaining still. There's little else to say of KK other than he bears no outward scars of note and has a high, pointed nose with a frowning, stern expression.

Personality

KK is a fairly cold and serious guy. He likes sports though doesn't really discuss it with anybody. He likes being active because he has an excess of energy to burn off and will throw himself into missions with a quiet enthusiasm. He likes music and literature too but, again, keeps these private pursuits to himself. In truth, he's rather a private and reclusive person. Those who have worked with him would tell you they like him well enough but they wouldn't particularly count him a 'friend'. KK dislikes jokers. He has little patience for 'banter' and smiles only rarely. Usually when somebody has achieved something good. He likes to see things accomplished successfully and will reward colleagues that have impressed him with compliments. He dislikes waiting; never the most patient individual he will grow swiftly angry should missions involve extended periods of inactivity. He has a real issue with mess. He takes pride in his appearance and believes in professionalism above all else; colleagues who are sloppy or reckless are colleagues he will distance himself from.

Whilst not the most cheery individual, KK is slow to anger too; if riled though he can possess a fearsome fury; luckily this is most often channeled into his limit break. In downtime he likes to keep himself to himself but always has solid advice for recruits and colleagues who would seek him out.

Background

Only son of a rich family, KK grew up on his father's beachside villa on Goblin Island- a forested isle in the Eastern Ocean due North-East of Midgar. He travelled to Midgar and Junon with his father often to accompany him on business meetings with Shinra executives but knew little of his dad's work in truth. He found it boring but became enamoured with the Electric Company's Martial Division. He had father purchase him a sword which he named Yoshiyuki and took to fighting against bands of goblins in the woods back home.

After losing a considerable amount of gil in these battles, he took to leaving his wallet at home but after leveling up sufficiently, he made for the beach to fight under-lizards and dual-horns. He soon found most of his allowance was going on Hi-Potions but he was certainly becoming stronger and even took to battling pairs of Dual-Horns at once.

Unbeknownst to KK, whilst he was training, a high-flying Shinra exec named Heidegger was visiting his father and watched the boy keenly from the patio of the Villa. That next Summer, 15 year old KK was packaged off to Midgar for a 'Summer Camp' where physically strong kids from across Gaia were put through their paces with the objective being to earn a place in SOLDIER; a military programme for elite warriors that would form the strongarm of the company in its international relations.

KK had a headstart on the other kids, many were sewer rats from Midgar's slums or scum from Junon street-gangs. A few were young mercenaries who had become veterans of the Gold Saucer's Battle Square and they fared better but KK was able to stand above the field and by the autumn, had entered the ranks of SOLDIER 3rd Class.

For a few years, KK excelled. Dedicated to the missions and to the programme, he was earmarked to advance. He showed good resistance to Mako-infusion in the early experiments where lesser SOLDIERs became poisoned and unresponsive. He was due for advancement and bonded with his first Summon Materia, Alexander so swiftly that he alerted the attention of some major players in Shinra's science division. By the age of 21, KK is not only being groomed for 2nd Class but there is word of him assuming a command position within the division. However, word gets out of his relationship with Heidegger's daughter, Averle and there is a huge scandal. KK cannot understand that the girl is promised to one of President Shinra's sons and protests that it isn't a crime to fall in love. Within Shinra there are those furiously demanding the upstart SOLDIER be 'wiped out' but there is sufficient resistance from the Science Division who see huge potential in KK for any assassination plan to be forestalled. KK never learns anything of this.

However, when he returns from a 'peacekeeping' mission in Wutai, Averle is gone. He busts a few heads and tracks her to Wall Market and after more inquiries at the Honey Bee Inn, his trail leads to Don Corneo's Mansion. After fighting his way past a number of the Don's hired goons, he confronts the man himself who tells him to give up his search. Averle has been absorbed into the Don's seedy trafficking ring and if KK ever sees her again she'd scarce recognise him anymore. Heartbroken and disillusioned, KK quits SOLDIER the next morning, Heidegger himself blames KK for his daughter's disappearance and breaks his Alexander materia in a symbolic disinheritance of his SOLDIER tenure.

Knowing Heidegger means to kill him, KK returns to the Don's mansion but finds it abandoned and shut up. He sprays Averle's name in ten foot high writing on the nearby wall and climbs to the upper plate to begin life as a fugitive and mercenary. He survives a year or more before making the mistake of visiting his sick mother back on Goblin Island to discover it's a trap set by the Turks to lure him from hiding. He gives himself up, tired of running and finding little zest in life without Averle or SOLDIER but is spared when the leader of the Turks recognises the same potential and talent in him that the Shinra bigwigs once did. Heidegger has had to grudgingly accept KK is untouchable but KK has ever mistrusted the man, suspecting he sold his own daughter into prostitution rather than bear the disgrace of her dishonouring herself with a mere SOLDIER 3rd Class.

Never griping or complaining, KK has served the Turks faithfully, though he was monitored keenly in the outset- the suspicion being he had little reason to love the company. KK has always seemed keen in the world of subterfuge and covert surveillance though; almost as though he was looking for something all this time...

Weapon

Yoshiyuki (Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki in Japanese) is a mid-powered weapon for KK, and has an Attack power of 56 with two single Materia slots. Its power increases if one or both of the other party members are KO'd; if one party member is dead, the damage is doubled, if both party members are dead, the damage is tripled. In real terms, KK is able to focus the blade's energies more directly when imperiled; this is part of his SOLDIER 'sentinel' training that is also reflected in his limit break; Defender of the Fallen. The blade is a classic katana with a long cylindrical hilt wrapped in light pink grip tape. The crossguard is a circle of gold and the blade three and a half feet of tempered steel with a razor-sharp edge. KK wears the blade in a turquoise scabbard at his left hip supported by a black sash.

Materia

Yoshiyuki bears two single materia slots and KK bears a third slot on his gauntlet; Iron Bangle

Summon: Alexander. (broken) Useless materia split in two halves by Heidegger. KK still wears it in his Iron Bangle because "sometimes when things are split in two they still feel as one."

Magic: Meteor: Comet
Comet 2
Powerful magic capable of dealing high non-elemental damage to a single (Comet) or multiple (Comet 2) foes.

Command: Enemy Skill: [0/20] Prototype materia from Shinra's Science Division. If attacked, KK should be able to learn abilities from enemies to use for himself in future battles. Limited to 20 skills, he has yet to try it out in the field.

Limit Break

Defender of the Fallen
Casts 'Shield' upon party members rendering them immune to Elemental Magic and Physical attacks (They can be hurt by items or non-elemental attacks) Whilst entering "Berserk" Status himself. In this state, KK can only attack but his blows deal greater damage. If timed perfectly, KK might use DotF whilst allies are KO'd which means Yoshiyuki's Attack is tripled PLUS the added power of Berserk (Fury) Status. After battle, KK remains in 'Fury' state but will not enter subsequent battles berserked; however his Limit bar will charge more quickly and he will take more damage from attacks until a 'Tranquilizer' is applied to calm him.

@EricRPYou cannot be a SOLDIER and a Turk. You have to choose one and once you go SOLDIER, there is no quitting. The Turks assassinate defectors.

Also, the background story with Heidegger and his daughter is just no lol. We are not going to just make-up a daughter for him.
