Name:Lyra Scott
Age:19
Description:Standing at five foot five inches, Lyra is on the smaller end of the spectrum. Her build doesn't particularly denote any strength or fitness. The few months she spent in farming has given her some strength and a much appreciated tan but you'd be a fool for thinking she could match some of the other scouts. Apart from that, she's pretty in an unconventional way; she either looks bored or like she's floating away on some casual thought but there's an unmistakable life in her eyes. Dirty blond hair swept over her shoulders and piercing blue eyes finish her look, adding a beauty of sorts.
History:Lyra Alexandra Moore was born to a single mother working in Portland. She would like to tell you that she knew her mother but her only memories are a voice and an overwhelming feeling of being loved. Her mother died of a rare heart condition a year later and Lyra was placed in the care of her grandfather, a retired physicist who lived on a farmhouse upstate. She was only four when the world went to shit.
Growing up with her grandfather wasn't that bad. The farmhouse was isolated enough that they were rarely bothered and they had nearly everything they needed there - food, water and a generator that powered the necessities. It wasn't ideal for a little girl but she had his mind and she was eager to learn. Her days would be filled with helping on the farm or discovering every corner of his land. He was always watching with a loaded rifle close at hand. Walkers never really bothered them, nor did bandits but they had a few occassions. He kept more than enough weapons and ammo to keep them safe.
When she was a bit older, the learning begun. She was taught the basics of reading and writing but every moment was an education. In the mornings she would do her chores and help with the farm and in the evenings she would be taught the constellations and the myths they descended from. Her grandfather's bookcase was endless and she read most of them until she could read no more. She was wickedly curious, dangerously sharp and he often joked that ninety percent of their conversations descended from "why?". He loved her and she loved him.
As she grew, their topics became more and more expansive. Newton and self defence, car engines and survival; she took it all in and stored it somewhere in the back of her head. They somehow kept hidden from the Pirates but as she grew into a stronger and smarter person, her grandfather deteriorated. She slowly took over most of the tasks of the house as he became prone to spending days in bed.
Lyra wasn't a fool and could see reality for what it was but he knew what was happening too. It was during these years that Lyra came into contact with a scout from Lasthope. She traded ammo and weapons for painkillers and medicine. She'd trade anything for a way to ease his pain.
As he grew weaker he would tell her more and more about her mother. It was those few weeks that she came to understand the sacrifice he made for her and the sacrifice she had to make for him.
She stayed until the end and when his time came and went, she buried him out under the old hazel tree. She was now alone in this world. For a while she tried to normalise it - she grew her crops, noted the positions of the stars and attempted to pretend she was ok by herself.
Reality, however, likes to come a knocking in the form of a Portland Pirates scouting party. She'd like to say she fought them off, killed every one of them but she didn't. She lost.
After that, she had no desire to stay. The house only held pain for her, the walls illuminating her scars. She took what they didn't take, her grandfather's telescope and a collection of books and made for the only safe haven she knew of. She somehow found her way to Lasthope and established herself through the scout she traded with. Her first job was farming. Then they realised there was a few brain cells going to waste there so they gave her a job in engineering. She was even offered a chance to become an apprentice teacher but she despised children so she stuck with engineering.
Trooper skills were second nature to her and she still had to prove her loyalty so she was selected as one of the engineers to tag along.
Skills:Engineering - Although not her major discipline she knows a decent amount about engines and mechanics. Her theoretical knowledge helps with everything else.
Navigation - Lyra knows the stars like the back of her hand. She was named for a constellation, after all. Make sure it's dark and she'll get you where you need to go.
Logical - Being surrounded by knuckle heads has its uses sometimes (apart from eye candy) but they're not famed for their quick thinking or general intelligence. Lyra may not be particularly strong but she's smart and sometimes that's just as dangerous.
