Hunter's Captain


Hunter’s Name: Drystan Haalard

Weapon of choice: Longsword, though he also carries a knife and sometimes a crossbow.

Armor of choice: He wears mostly leather armor for the sake of dexterity, sometimes donning an undercoat of chainmail if he is expecting a particularly difficult fight..

Strengths/Abilities: Drystan is very skilled in combat, especially proficient in swordplay. He is strong and agile, making him a very capable fighter. He has a lot of experience, having been a member of the royal guard previously.
He is a fast learner also, picking up skills rather quickly. He can especially pick up on people's personalities, often using this knowledge to get into their heads. He recently picked up a bit of basic alchemy. While he can learn the basics of a number of skills, he isn't as proficient at anything as he is at swordplay.
He is very confident and a little full of himself. Having so much experience, this makes him very courageous. He is never known to run away from a fight.
He is also very determined when he sets his mind on something. If he gets a job, he doesn't stop until it is done and done well.

Weaknesses/Hindrances: Drystan is constantly on edge, causing him to fly off the handle when pushed too far. This can cause him to be rather unpredictable.
He has a tendency to be rather abusive towards people close to him. This isn't always on purpose, either. Because of this, he doesn't tend to keep many close friends.
He can be reckless at times, as well. Often putting himself in situations where he puts himself or others in danger for no other reason than that he can.
He is materialistic and can be a bit possessive.

Personality: Drystan can be a bit cynical and dry. He doesn't have much compassion and is driven mainly by his selfish desires. He is a bit of an adrenaline junkie, often seeking fights just for thrill of it. He is somewhat sadistic, thoroughly enjoying hunting and killing criminals and monsters.

History: Drystan grew up in Sankt Gallen on the outskirts of Belvoir. He was a fighter from an early age, often picking fights with the other kids around town. He was a bit of a strange child, almost never crying but, instead, laughing when he got hurt. He was also a rule-breaker and a hell-raiser for his parents.

As he grew older, he began finding uses for his tendencies. He quickly started picking up odd jobs that involved any kind of fighting, sometimes slaughtering farm animals for nearby farmers. He joined up with a mercenary band when he was a teenager. With them, he traveled throughout the kingdoms until he landed in Rothenburg. He settled in here, taking a job as a city guard, often volunteering for patrols outside the city walls.

He moved up the ranks as an effective swordsman until he ended up in the royal guard. When the King and his advisers came up with the Hunter's Guild, he was one of the first to volunteer.

Weapon of choice: Trappers gifts

  • Extended wrist blades (picture is too long. About a foot long hidden blade. Slides out of a wrist sheath.)

Armor of choice: Davos made his armor over his career of hunting game in the wilds of the Durot mountains. Thick cloth was traded for with various furs of indigenous yetis and the large wolves prowling the mountain tops, of course the thickest parts were used for his own needs.
The wrist braces he uses have long thin pieces of steel sewn into the leather periodically, preventing any creature from tearing into the vulnerable area while still remaining very light. These are usually the first pieces of gear to be replaced.
Leather padding on his legs and chest follows the same styling of protection, with the most amount focused on the thigh leathers.
The crimson clothing he wears is a ritually dyed piece of clothing often splashed by his victims, that he might remember them forever.

Personality: Davos is a man of conviction, purpose, guile, and one of the scariest men I have ever seen. This is a man with the knowledge of a royal scholar on the subject of the inhabitants around Durot mountains, the Ondorro forests, anywhere monsters that feed on the warm flesh of the people. Skulking in the shadows you will find this man alone waiting for the chance, still as the trees, until the time is right.

I've heard him speak of the werewolves he hunted before. Heard lots of hunters brag about them one after another and for good reason, but Davos. No. Not him. The way this man speaks about his prey can only be likened to a man of the faith reciting the words of prayer to the gods above.
He envies these creatures.

I do not believe he seeks their power for his own or to be enslaved, by the divines it doesn't even sound like he wants to try and save or tame some of the creepy crawlies that stalk the night, he just wants to share in that.. strength? The confidence of a predator at the top of the food chain.
That has to be it; He envies their lack of humanity. Perhaps he wishes to be free of the morality of human existence..

None will truly know but him. So I give fair warning to any who meet the crimson garbed being.

History: Davos' family separated from the clustered living of the villages. Forsaking the comforts of the herd and superior numbers to strike out a living far to the south in the mountain range of their forefathers. The living was rough and often nearly struck them down but with the knowledge given from a nomadic tribe of barbarians, wisdom traded for with food or tools, his parents claimed a piece of the mountainside for themselves.
Not a particularly attractive home it did serve its purpose as it sheltered them from the storms and hungry eyes of the predators, nestled on a hard to reach cliff. From there Davos was tutored to hunt down the animals that stalked the snowy hills and delve into the darkest caves dotting the mountains.

Year by year he grew increasingly restless.

The first kill was a rabbit. Then a great white Elk. From there; wolves, bears, wildabeasts, great furred yetis. Davos excelled at luring in such beasts to the killing-fields, springing creative traps that fell from the treetops down onto the beasts. When they inevitably struggled to free themselves, the tip of his sword struck them in the heart.

With his parents passed away from a fever many years ago, Davos returned from the society his family had left and began reintegrating himself. First came money, taken from bounty hunting and vermin disposal, then the ability to read, until finally he signed on with the Royal Hunting Guild.

Weapon of choice:
Hunting Bow and Hollow Arrows - Iva’s bow is a unique design by her village, trading a longbow's extreme range for increase draw speed without compromising its power. Her arrows are also uniquely designed for her hunting style: each arrow has a hollow slit in them were she can fill with poison, increasing the dosage of each shot. Her arrows are also designed to “plug” the arrow wounds so that they aren’t easily removed, and to ensure that the poison does not bleed out. However this design makes her arrows far less effective against armored enemies, as they’re meant to pierce flesh or thick hides. She does carry regular broadhead arrows should she come across armored enemies however.

Silver Tipped Spear - They say silver has a powerful effect against monsters, and Iva will test that out. Her spear is made with a special silver alloy that ensure the blade is as strong as steel while still retaining its silver properties. The shaft itself is also of high quality, made of Darkwood. Tougher and more flexible than your average oak or cypress, amoung the many things her village is known for Darkwood crafts is one of them. The shaft is strong enough to withstand blows from even a guillotine.

Alchemy - Iva’s deadliest weapons are the various poisons and bombs she can concoct. She can make a poison out of any material, no matter what’s available to her, with enough variety to ensure that no one can ever have all the immunities. Not only can she brew poisons but she also knows how to craft other alchemical weapons such as smoke bombs and black powder grenades, as well as various combat drugs and helpful medicine.



Armor of choice:
Only a steel bracer and that’s mostly for parrying light attacks. Iva believes that the best armor is to never be hit at all. She does wear a thick fur cloak when she’s in cities or out on a hunt to protect her from preying eyes and the elements.

Strengths/Abilities:
Alchemy - Iva spent much of her youth learning how to craft alchemical mixtures with master witches, and while she isn’t nearly as skilled as they are, she has a considerable talent for it. No matter where she finds herself Iva could make a toxin or medicine with whatever happens to be around, or even draw it from her own body if she really needs to.

Agile - Speed is king when it comes to combat. No matter how strong you are or how tough you can be, a thousand blows can whittle your defenses and even the strongest attacks mean nothing if they missed. Iva is quick on her feet and highly acrobatic, capable of climbing and leaping great heights and surviving the subsequent landing. She’s quick enough to even handle herself in a furious melee, dodging and weaving between strikes of even a master swordsman to aim at their weak points and vitals.

Huntress - Iva had a sharp eye for taking down her enemies. She doesn’t waste time beating them senseless like a barbarian, instead making sure each strike is careful and precise to deal maximum damage. In particular, her skills with her spear and now comes from her hunter's ability; she’s a deadeye shot with a bow and arrow, and with the spear’s length combined with the strength she can put behind it she can pierce even the thickest armor when she strikes the right spot.

Tracker - It’s trivial for Iva to find out where her enemy has been and where they will go. Once she has set her sights on them they don’t have much longer to live. They could have fled into the ocean or even ran to a new country and Iva can still follow them.

Weaknesses/Hindrances:
Fragile - Remove Iva’s mobility or put her in a position where there is no way out,m and she won’t last long. Her entire survival depends on being able to stay constantly on the move. If she’s trapped or grappled there’s little she can do short of trying to use her toxins to break free or even cut off her limb.

Tackless - Don’t expect Iva to handle herself well in social situations. She’s as straightforward and to the point as her spear, and chances are if you’re asking her to debate you will be at the end of her spear. She doesn’t handle direct confrontation well and tends to shy away from conflicts, perfecting to either stick to the shadows or be with more pleasant people.

Extreme - Iva’s ideas tend not to consider things like “innocent bystanders” or “collateral damage”. Whatever gets the job done, no matter who has to be sacrificed. Though she tends not to include herself in those she’s willing to sacrifice, at least not willingly.

Misandrist - Iva had never had a good experience with men and thus shies away from them as much as possible. Her general attitude towards men is distrust and even young boys will not escape her paranoia. This also makes Iva far too trusting of women even if they’re also using her for their own gain or worse than the men Iva has to deal with.

Personality:
Quiet, reserved, and always with a resting bitch face, Iva doesn’t look particularly friendly even if her attire screams of a more femme fatale. Iva leans towards stoic indifference in all things but she can be quite empathetic; she understands both raw emotions and subtle intentions equally well, allowing her to get a sense of both prey and people. This Iva tends to hang around places of positivity and comfort instead of areas filled with sadness, and she prefers the company of hopeful fools than cold professionals.

Iva herself tries not to speak much and let her actions speak for her. She believe that words are meaningless and no promise or vow done vocally can mean as much as what someone does. She tends to care for her friends in an emotionally distant fashion, trying not to let them get used to her kindness even if she willingly gives it to them. Iva generally distrusts men and is slow to trust them, often putting her guard up against them. But at the same time she is uncertain what to do or how to handle herself if someone does manage to get past her guard. All the more reason she tries not to get too attached in the first place.

History:
Iva lives deep in the wilderness outside from the kingdom. But she was not far from civilization, far from it; she lived in a prosperous town known as Wichita, a town where witches could live in peace with others. Iva’s mother was a witch who had fallen in love with a traveler, but he had left shortly after impregnating Iva’s mother. This she grew up with the scrutiny of having a whore mother and no father, which contributed much to her issues later in life.

At a young age Iva showed a talent for alchemy, having the right amount of caution and curiosity to handle mixtures well without doing any crippling harm to herself. She first learned alchemy from her mother, and as she became older she tutored under other witches until eventually she was the apprentice of one of the Master Witches herself. She was a powerful magic user who had somehow created an elixir that allowed her to escape the effects of aging, even reversing herself to her younger, more comely age.

Of course this didn’t help Iva better when it came to the slanderous rumors that were thrown at her by her fellow peers. They thought that Iva wanted nothing but vanity, accusing her of selling her body out to the menfolk to make connections to such a powerful patron, and that Iva was only using her to continue her lustful lifestyle. A life style that never existed. It all came to head when one of the young men approached her. At first he gave her emotional support, complimenting her for her skills as an alchemist and telling her to ignore the rumors of jealous women. But his true nature was revealed not too long after when, after rejecting his advances, the man became aggressive to Iva and practically demand that he give herself to him. Iva slew him and ran away to the outsirts if Wichita, where she had moved in with one of her aunts.

From there Iva started to hone her skills as a huntress while still keeping up her training as an alchemist. She had learned enough from her master for Iva to be able to study and run experiments of her own, and started to create her own poisons instead of just following a formula. Without the extensive equipment and resources of a workshop Iva had to learn how to improvise, which in turn increased her skills considerably. It wasn’t long until Iva felt that she needed to test her creation now against live prey; she heard rumors in a distant land about a kingdom troubled by monsters. A worthy challenge for the alchemist.

•She has a curiosity towards magic and the supernatural, and does her best to understand it.

History:
She was raised by ogres from an early age in a changeling situation so that the clan could breed half ogres. She was able to train with their young and is now the muscular beast she's known as in the present. When she hit puberty(age 13), she was arranged with the chief's son and she ended up giving birth to three kids during her teenage years. This didn't stop her from her barbaric, ogre like ways, as she still went on raids with the rest of the clan and was able to balance that with caring for her kids. Lately though, she has had a lust for an adventure other than raids. She will go on plenty of adventures, and do her best to bring back stories for her kids, who are still to young to leave the clan.

Strengths

  • Unremarkable Does not stand out or attract attention. Quite simply forgettable.
  • Puny Hardly ever considered a threat. Easily left off the hook or considered not worth of time or effort.

Weaknesses

  • Gullible Easily manipulated. Quick to trust.
  • Endless Hunger Inner wolf is more vile and uncontrollable than most other Lycans of the Beast branch.
  • Wild beast Forced Transformations every so often. Unexpectedly. Pattern or reason still unknown to her.


Personality
Juniper had always been a kind soul. She finds pleasure in the small things: beauty of nature, kindness of people and generosity. Of course, those things were not always present, but she fed on the moments that they were and ignored the rest.

She dislike being helped and will do anything possible to repay a debt if she owe anything to anyone. Of course, her status as a beggar child means that she is limited... so she vowed to at least be someday able to repay everyone she owes anything to.

She dislike violence and never stand out. Her very gentle soul makes her kind of submissive, and very likely to obey orders given to them especially if they are said as 'suggestions'. Her trust of people makes her gullible and naive.

History
Juniper was born of an unknown mother and father. She was found close by a wooded area near Shrewsbury. In fact, she was found in a bush of juniper berries, hence her name. Her adoptive parents brought her back home and raised her best they could. They were a small family of farmers, all close to one another and all working very hard to maintain the small patch of land they had for themselves.

The family have had about seven children, three of them daughters. As such, they knew that Juniper had always been a weak child, but it was only after her fourteenth birthday that they realized just how much. Fourteen years old was about the age where children really began giving a serious hand around the farm. In Juniper's case however, there was an incident where she fell unconscious after a few hours helping her sisters cleaning the stable and fell seriously ill the next morning.

Her parents knew she was no good. She could not help around the farm, and no husband would ever take her as wife if she could not help what so ever, let alone give birth. So, a few months later, she was abandoned a second time at the outskirt of Rothenburg. Her adoptive parents knew she'd die out in the wild. They refused to simply send her to die, so they decided to bring her to the city on their next trip to sell their products and simply abandon her there. They thought she'd at least have a chance to survive there, but little did they know how dangerous the city was to become.

However, her luck had not yet run dry. A few days passed before she was taken in by a group of street beggars who saw her in an alley, slowly dying to her illness. They fed her what little they could share despite their common misery. Not strong enough to pitch in, Juniper did the best she could to express her gratitude whenever she could. The group quickly noticed her condition and refused to let her work too hard.

Driven by guilt of doing nothing and the will to change, Juniper sneaked out of their shelter one night in order to beg for either money or food for the next morning and surprise them. Of that night she remembers only two things: A loud thumb behind her and acute pain that befell her like a wave across her whole body.

She woke up. Wounds on her body. Rather, scars. What seemed like lacerations and large bite marks on her small frame. Worse than that however, she was covered in blood, but not her own. She stood alone and naked among a multitude of bloodied corpses. Eviscerated and scattered across the... shelter?

A few weeks passed since then. Juniper now keeps to herself. Unaware of her new situation, she still felt guilt to bed the only one alive. Worse yet, she felt some uncomfortable 'warmth' inside. Akin to excitation, but not quite. Deranging enough to make her fearful of it.

Always Faithful and Prepared


Family History

The De Lacroy come from outside Belvoir, from another kingdom they refuse to talk about. No one knows exactly when they arrived in Rothenburg, about a few generations ago. They arrived by sea, nothing more than petty merchants like so many others. Through decades of good planning and financial success, however, they managed to climb the social ladder and make a true name for themselves. Their many partners and contracts made sure they received a cut from almost any deal within the docks or imports/exports, giving them respectable trade power.

While incredibly rich, the family does not hold a fraction of the power the real Nobles of Rothenburg have for one good reason: they are foreigners. Despite their best efforts, they always have been seen as foreigner by the people no matter how well they succeeded. They made a good name for themselves. They gained the trust of their trade partners. However, the only political weight they might have is their wealth, nothing more. No one from the people seem to forget they are outsiders. As for the Nobles and the High class, though they do trade and mingle together from time to time, they never really accepted the fact that they were not born from noble ancestry.

The image of the De Lacroy is mostly positive and honest, but there are those that say they have a hand in the black market. Nothing has ever surfaced to prove this, but with their influence on every traders or so within the city, it would not be surprising.

Family's Influence

- Many buildings on the waterfront belongs directly to the family: businesses, storage and other. Through them, they operate the majority of their operations in the docks. One of those building, flanked by the family's coat of arms and richly decorated, is their main company's building.

- The family's residing home was built close to the northern wall's gate which is closest to the docks (S Sector). That part of the city was mostly poor before the De Lacroy arrived. They invested a lot of their personal wealth in repairing the sector, building homes and employing most of the local residents. Doing so gave them good influence in the sector.

- Melisentia's family Mining Company that is situated south of Rothenburg, close to the foot of the mountains. From them, they receive ample supplies of Ores that they can use to influence the trade of tools or weapons.

- The family hold rights to tax anyone using the docks, meaning they make good money out of all the fishing trade or any merchants coming in and out of town. They themselves have a fishing company that is doing rather well.

- All of their influence make sure they have ears on the majority of deals regarding trade within the city. They also have a vast portion of the black market answer to them, unknown from the public, which they use to undermine current rivals and bring low any possible rising new ones.
