Protiv

"Fuck." Was all he could muster to say.

The portal had closed, and on the wrong side of it, Protiv was trapped at a prison he had just committed dozens of homicides in. He was in luck though, as all but one Sentinel had been completely destroyed; However, the one remaining was the largest Sentinel of the trio.

Then, suddenly, everything was bright, and Protiv felt the combustion of the Hydrogen send a wave of heat, followed closely by flames. He responded quickly, moving his right hand to send the nitrogen between him and the flame, but it wasn't nearly enough. The flames of the explosion knocked him to the ground, and the pain he felt was incredible, it was as if every part of his being had been plunged into a boiling vat of water. Protiv's scream echoed through nearly every corridor of that building... Reaching to pull the melting mask from his face, he nearly screamed again as he felt the skin covering his face stick to the air-tight edges of the gasmask, and his hands fell from his face; The mask wasn't going anywhere.

With a yell, Protiv stumbled up to his feet, pain coursing through his veins as he did so, and began to limp through the hallways, towards the exit. Looking out the window to his right, he could see the blurry image of the largest Sentinel on the ground. To his "luck," the Sentinel had been much closer to the explosion, and was now nothing more than a melting machine.

Trudging forward, he breathed raggedly through the gas mask that was now a permanent feature to his person.

Modlen was vaguely aware of the change in her surroundings. The energy she had been given helped her to think and talk a little more clearly, but she was having trouble focusing her eyes. What she did know what that she was being carried, she was being asked questions and that her stomach felt cold.

"I need..." she began, "I need blood. To stop the bleeding." She'd been shot, that much she knew, and the energy was helping to dull the pain a little, but she felt woozy and was pretty sure she was bleeding a lot. That's how gunshots worked, right?

SHe could hear people moving and rushing around her but she couldn't hear gunfire or conflict anymore, so she had to assume they were safe. Which might be a bad thing, given her condition. She knew blood healed her she also knew that bigger wounds needed more blood. She had no idea how much for a gunshot, but she remembered the dead guard outside her cell. Not even thinking about the implications of her request, Modlen was thinking purely about her own healing when she spoke up once more,

"You need to get a guard, put their blood in a bathtub and put me in it. It'll make it better."

~Heka~

They were safe, for now. Heka watched as Corona came bursting through the portal and as it neared closure, a bright light filtered through and Heka's eyes widened, but the heat he felt stopped when Corona thrust his hand forward causing the explosion to stop, at least from coming through the portal. Heka exhaled as he looked at Corona while bandaging a wounded mutant. He looked into the eyes of the young woman who was scared. Heka couldn’t help but feel as if they had forgotten something, or someone. Nonetheless, the woman in front of him had his attention.

"Am I going to die?" she asked softly her breathing erratic.

"No dear, you are not," Heka spoke gently and calmly as he exhaled and reached into the arcane energies of the universe. His eyes were closed, but when he opened them they were pure white and glowed brightly. The girl seemed scared for what would happen next, but Heka's hand touched her arm where the bullet had gone through and pushed hard. He was muttering something, a spell, and as he pushed, her wound slowly began to close. He continued in the ancient tongue and when then glowing in his eyes ceased, he looked down and the wound was healed. "Magic isn't as innocent as it seems, it is quite dangerous, but the gods have given you a chance at redemption dear. Do not waste it," he told the girl before standing. He noticed the large wolf and shook his head. This must be the one known as Morphling he read about in the files. He was thankful for the hacker who had given them the information on everyone who had been imprisoned in that damned place. There was so much to do and there seemed to be so little time to do it in, luckily Corona’s assistant would make sure everyone was taken care of, even the injured.

Corona was walking towards him. He could see the look on his face. Something was wrong. When Corona spoke to him, Heka nodded. “Death comes to those who constantly knock on its door.” The howl from Morphling made Heka groan with annoyance. “And howling so loudly warrants the same.”

When those who were going to accompany them were ready, Heka looked at them all before his eyes settled on Corona and then the wall behind them. Heka began to levitate, eyes glowing with power once more.

“Aperi….,” Heka spoke his voice filled the area, like a multitude of sounds at once. “Ianuam. Ubi nemo!”

He pointed his finger at the wall and drew a circle with his finger. On the wall a spell circle began to etch itself into it. When it was complete, a portal burst open and butterflies once again lined the portal.

“This one will close once we go through, so be ready for anything,” Heka said his voice normal as well as his eyes as he landed softly on the ground.

Toro "Jolt" Warnock

The girl he was tending too started to come back around, she was still bleeding the bullet must have caught a serious vein. He was caught a bit off guard when she started to speak stranger still was what she said, “blood?” he repeated. He didn’t think she was crazy but it wasn’t what he was expecting. Then the next thing, a guard from back there? He understood that she needed blood but seeing the portal grow smaller and then eventually close after the man with the speaker collar and some armored dragon came through, the guards were no longer a viable option.

His eyes darted around the room looking around at the other mutants until he spotted what he was looking for. A red haired slender girl with freckles was watching her arm as some scratches slowly healed, looking back to the girl he smiled, “don’t go anywhere I’ll be right back.” After he left the girl’s side he noticed the sparks still jumping off him, he needed to get rid of some of this energy and fast before he discharges again. That’s when through the crowed he spotted the Boy from earlier who let him out, he was hovering in the air and spoke more words he didn’t understand. He noticed on the wall he was facing, another portal opened and more mutants waiting to go through.

Toro approached the man after he landed and smiled at him, “thank you for getting me out of there, I’m unsure of how long I’ve been in there” he paused for a moment as he looked around at the others and returned his gaze back to him, “my name is Toro and to show you my appreciation I have a gift for you.” Reaching out he slightly grasped the man’s arm and began giving him energy. For Toro, it was enough to take the edge off, but for this man it would be enough for him to feel rested without feeling jittery. Again he smiled, “that should help you out.” With a quick nod, he let go and jogged over to the red head.

“I need your help with an injured person, I’ll explain later” the girl seemed slightly confused but followed. He made his way back to the girl from earlier and picked her up, “come on Red, we need to find a bath tub” the girl nodded as they headed off down some halls where the others were going. They went room to room for the ones they could open until they found what looked to be a bathroom with a sink, a toilet, and a small bathtub. Toro quickly laid the girl down in the tub and clogged the drain with a stopper. “Alright Red this is where it gets a bit strange, I need your blood, so she can heal.”

The girl was taken back and looked wary and slightly confused, “m-my blood?” Toro nodded, “I saw you healing when we got back, and she needs blood to heal” the girl stepped back hesitantly, “this is weird.” The boy nodded, “I know it is, but I need your help and without it she might die.” He reached out and grabbed her hand, “I don’t want to hurt you or force you into this but I can give you something else in return.” He paused for a moment as he gave her some of his energy. The girl breathed in sharply and then exhaled with a shiver, “yeah OK” she said quietly.

Toro found a small knife in a nearby cabinet and with a few swipes and a steady stream of energy from Toro, slowly the tube began to fill. The girl shivered again, “this isn’t a comfortable feeling but you should know I have an addictive personality, so if I get addicted to this energy of yours, it's your fault… Also, you can call me Vicky.” Toro smiled as the last of his energy was drained, and he sort of passed out, after a few more seconds and some quick healing Vicky also passed out next to the girl and her tub of blood.

Corona tried to relax as he waited for people to clear out enough for Heka to open the portal. He felt like he was forgetting someone and looked around to check on the members of his team. That's when he realized that he didn't see Protiv. "Protiv!" he called out, but didn't get a response. He had to act quickly. Yes, he had to be with the team that went to Cable's, as he knew them and they would trust him enough to run. Other people didn't. "Sal," he said, running over to his assistant that was about to lead a group of former prisoners away. "Have you seen Protiv?"

"No," Sal responded. "He wasn't here as far as I saw."

"Damn it." He responded, "How long until the SS get back there?"

Sal checked his Ipad. "The alert went out but there's no response to it. It will be at least an hour before they can get a robot out there, and he can handle any humans."

Corona pulled out his phone and tried to call Protiv, but there was no response. "See if any human passing mutants want to be part of a stealth team." he said. "We'll need to get someone back there to get him back before SS gets him." Running over to Heka, he asked the sorcerer "I'll need you to open another portal back to the prison when we return. That should give Sal time to get a team together. Protiv didn't evac with us, and isn't responding, and I need to send a team in to pick him up or arrange for pickup."

----

Corona stepped through the portal beside a log cabin. A man with a cybernetic arm was cutting wood by the light from a standing shop light, but when the portal opened he walked over with the axe slung over his shoulder. "Kyle?" he asked, dropping the axe and running over to hug his cousin. "It's been four years. What are you doing here?" As he said that, a middle aged Asian woman ran out of the house. "Kyle?" she asked and ran over to hug him as well. "How are you doing?"

"I'm fine Miss Lee." he responded.

"Oh, just call me Jubilee." she responded. "So, what brings you here?"

"I just received word that Sentinels are inbound. You might have a few minutes, but we need to evac you and any refugees you have."

"We just dropped the last of the refugees off with the Underground this afternoon." Jubilee said as Cable ran inside.

"Forge! Dazzler! Sentinels incoming!" Cable yelled as he entered the front door. "They'll be here in a few minutes!"

"But I don't detect anything." said Forge from a room just off the main one. "None of my sensors..." An alarm went off. "Sentinels incoming." he said, then stared at the screen in shock for about a second before snapping out of it. "At least five of the big ones and over a dozen small ones, plus five personnel carriers." The rest of his speech was a series of expletives as he removed the harddrive from his computer, put it in a briefcase with several others and waved his hand towards the remaining hardware, causing it to spark violently as all power settings were maxed out within it. He ran into another room and then ran outside, followed by two rotor drones with lasers mounted on them. "Let's go," he said, running past Cable as Dazzler ran down the steps, hair wet as she was still in the shower when the warning came, while putting a speaker collar on.

As she and Cable left the house, though, several MK1 robots started to land around them, with MK2 and personnel carriers visible over the treetops.

Kaze

Kaze watched the portal close shortly after he got through. There were quite a few mutants on the other side, some ex-prisoners, others the aid. Unlike a lot of the prisoners he was not wounded, fairly nourished, and pretty energized. The joys of a reptilian body, his system was built like one. He was 'fed' once every few days which was perfectly fine with his slow-going system. Setting aside his weapons and that monstrous shield he flexed and stretched out his body. Great cracks came from his joints, even after the little work out destroying those sentinels he was still stiff. That was something the other prisoners had on him, they got to move around a bit. He had been chained, barred, and strapped six ways to Sunday.

Corona, their liberator, was talking with some others before saying something about another mission. Rescue and protection, which meant destroy and shred the enemy in his mind. "Sure, why not." He rumbled out, that odd multi-voice reverberating from his chest. The portal was quick to open and off the people went to go help this Cable person. He followed along, leaving behind his equipment. He needed to get his body back up to one hundred percent. On the other side was a cabin, a guy chopping wood with a mechanical arm, and it seemed to be getting dark.

His tail snaked over and lifted the wood-axe from the ground while Corona/Kyle got a hug session. He examined the edge before running his claws down it, a sliver of metal getting sloughed off. The edge was now immaculately sharp while the 'important people' talked about incoming sentinels. His ears swiveled, taking in the jet sounds as the robots and carriers approached just as everyone kept saying they were incoming. Cocking his arm back anyone nearby could see the muscles expand, veins standing out under the tiny scales, before he launched the wood-axe with a dull shock-wave.

The splitter flew through the air before slamming into the engine of one of the carriers, they'd need to force a landing with just one engine going. He had ignored the MK1's, simply because they were small and didn't show any energy blasts. Merely ceramic bullets. When they started to land he started to move, lunging for the nearest one to rip apart.
