@Draken hmm~ Oren was from a ghetto, but from the sound of it, not an ether factory. Viveca was a nomad, but caught, and she /did/ end up in a factory, at least briefly. Wgich is the one mentioned in your post, I wonder..?

Chuckles

You can either wait for it to come up, or dig to try and find out. It has already been publicly agreed upon, though, so no need to worry about me putting words in other people's mouths.

I like mysteries.

Thank you very much! Unfortunately I slipped into acting like it was Victorian London or something. In an attempt to avoid that, I wasted 15 minutes trying to find a Slavic equivalent to the title of "Lady." (I failed.) I also noticed that the front page is missing the info dump you did on Magnagrad a while back. Could you please add it when you have the chance? Or perhaps we could start linking the posts.

Yep, I done fucked up...I meant to PM it to you, but then I forgot...

Anyways, I didn't outline his goggles in the CS and have been working on them. There is a extreme drawback to what he is doing. He has to use his own ether in order to see inside the Karamzina and at this point can only keep it up for thirty minutes at the most. The drawback comes from having to drain himself of his own ether, which we have already established to be an extremely painful process.

I figured that since a month had passed since they were told of their trip to El, that Rodion would have been able to send a request for a workshop and foundry.

As for materializing in his rooms, he ain't doing that. He cannot, and never will be able to interact with things through his version of 'sight'. All he is doing is seeing the outline of the object and any and all ether that is within it.

Lastly, the tiny core he just pulled out is merely a 'key'. It is not the bike's heart. He would physically have to remove Madrys' core and put it into the bike in order for it to run.

Okay, let's try to unpack this.

So, I re-read your post several times, and I think I understand. He can control a wisp of his own ether and depending on what it touches, he can see the ether that's... in that object? In this case, it's the Karamzina? Did I get that right?

This all seems kind of weird, honestly. You should've PMed about this new power before including it in your post. That being the case, and I hate to do this, you'll need to edit your post and change some stuff about how the goggles work. I'll discuss it more below.

"Several tables sat against the wall as stacks of materials, projects, and plans dominated the other side of the ship. The largest box held his bike."

This part I find specifically confusing. Him being able to see this amount of detail is kind of crazy. Even if he was only seeing the ether, the way you described it in the post is kind of weird and makes it seem as though he can see non-ethereal objects. Basically, I don't really want him to have x-ray vision, since, honestly, I feel like that's kind of OP and it'd put a damper on things like exploration and suspense. I'll allow that his goggles allow him to have a vague idea of where white ether is collected in a limited space, but him being able to tell exactly where his motorcycle is and how the workshop and foundry are set up is pushing it.

Also, I'm not sure if this was clear or not but, ether isn't a substance that people can just control telepathically (or however it was that Rodion was controlling it). Certain people have the power to manipulate ether in such a way, like Ziotea, but when it's out of a vial it's in a liquid form (remember, it's pretty much blood). Apologies if this isn't what you were going for, but that's how I read your post. So yeah, him being able to control his own ether and send it flying through the air is something that was never discussed before, and I feel like it's an ability that should be limited to only a few people.

I'm also confused about how his vision ties into the goggles. I like that you made it so that the dragon vision was something that he's actually been seeing for a while, but I'm unsure as to how the infinite darkened room ties into the goggles. If you want to be vague about this and reveal more info on it later, PM me and let me know what you have in mind.

To sum things up, here's my idea for how his goggles work. They require ether (either his own or some other source) to function and they can only see the vague outlines of white ether (since being able to see the ether from people is pretty OP and would also make him an expert tracker besides being a genius mechanist, maybe he can upgrade them later to be able to glimpse blue/Omestrian ether). This being the case, he'd be able to tell where certain areas are in a structure. I.E "That's the engine room down there, and that's where they keep the weapons, ect" But see anything more than that is a no-go. Does this work for you?

@DrakenHey, it all read believable to me. I did find the use of "Mr and "Mrs" a bit weird, and would've gone with "Lord" and "Lady" (Victorian England be damned) but it was all really cool and evocative. :)

I'll try and find that bit of info you're talking about and put it in the infodump. Thanks.

@Lovejoy It might be possible to see more detail in the ether flow through machines within arm's reach, with full concentration to the exclusion of all else. I could see enchanted goggles allowing that. Or how the innards of the object are set up -- but again, extreme short range, and requires a high level of focus.

Just a suggestion.

@shylarahThe goggles only working from a short-distance away would be kind of defeating the purpose though. Here's the way I see it working:

There's an unknown enemy ship that we need to capture. From a distance away, Rodion puts on the goggles and can see where its Hearth System is located, since he can see a vast pool of white ethereal energy collecting in a certain place within the bowels of the ship. So, the mission objective would be to make our way to that location, destroy the Hearth System engines, and all the enemy combatants on board freeze to death or something (assuming they don't have an aegis-summoner). Just an example. :p

I'll wait for more info on how this is supposed to work from Drakey, but this is how I'm envisioning ATM.

Working on a proper post now.

Also, I was thinking that I liked Shylarah's take on it. As such, Rodion's goggles are short distance only.

Ps. I'll pm the new post to you.

Y'all have a fluent Russian speaker here and you don't use him?

Gospazha (English spelling of Slavic languages is weird) can be Mrs. Or ma'am. For lady as a title you could go with Baronessa, which is obviously a baroness, or Grafinya, which is a countess. I'm looking into land owning nobility now and I'll get back to you with results. @Draken

I was able to find a few things, its simply that Lady has lost a significant part of its association with birth and rulership and moved towards the level of respect and class the person is seen as owed. The word I was looking for may not exist. Still, thank you (and you know Russian??)

@Draken I'm a little rusty, but yup. If you're looking for a mobility title, that's hard. As it's been tsars, counts, and barons mostly. They used to have and queens, I don't think they had titles just for land. Like I said, I'll look into it more if at all possible.
