I made a general statement. This pretending, I'm pretending to be a victim complex doesn't work. Because I never started with a personal attack. You just made several. I'm done discussing with you. Odin made a personal attack from the very beginning, it wasn't constructive criticism. Neither was anyone else's...

You're all spewing ad hominem. Not doing what I do when I point out people's flaws. I'm not the hypocrite here.


Since when was it a personal attack? Sure, Odin was a bit abrupt in his first post in response to your original post, but when he deconstructed the post he never brought up anything personal. He never mentioned any bias or past vendetta, and neither have I. If anything, you've been "personally attacking" people, bringing up private conversations between us and acting like this is a circlejerk. I'm going to hop out of this discussion because this is like talking to a brick wall, but all I want to do is slam my head against said brick wall. I'll just leave you with Ink's newest status.

Tabletop complaining:

My DM has been our DM for a long time now, yet he wanted to try a new system. We said okay, and even ran a prologue session for some characters to get a feel for the system and fit their characters in the story our DM wanted to run (for instance, one of them were a Saxon prisoner).

I heard the prologue was balanced, but combat since then has been asinine. I understand that we're fighting monsters and they might be stronger than the average knight, but we're squires that have barely even managed to get past a few sessions. The first fight against a werebear took a number of hits (in its weakpoint) before we finally killed it, but in one roll it nearly obliterated the Saxon player.

We healed the Saxon player, but they were hurt so badly, they needed to make a back up character while we continued to adventure. Our next fight was a knight made of moss, and we used fire to attack him. However, this moss knight also nearly killed one of our players in one roll while it took myself and another player multiple attacks + the burning damage to even kill it. One of players was forced to use up his healing item because of a failed roll deeming it used up.

Thankfully the next fight was easier. It was a simple joust between an undead knight bound to an oath and myself, being the one most skilled with a lance. I managed to unhorse him easily, and we continued. The DM also granted us some mercy by allowing us to do a trade with a faerie if we recovered something for him to heal the Saxon, and the falconry roll passed and the Saxon was back with us.

However, that was a small mercy. The next fight had us facing against both the witch we were chasing and a werelion. The dice the lion had made it impossible for it to fail, and it had two attacks. The one against myself was a crit and nearly killed my horse in the process (36 damage) while the Saxon survived with little damage. The witch, who had turned into a raven, almost killed the player that had been nearly killed by the moss knight.

The raven then grappled said player and attempted to fly away with them. Both the Saxon and I tried killing it, leaving it with a measly few HP while the lion continued trying to slaughter us. I chucked my spear after that round, passed but rolled straight 1s and my damage was soaked. The Saxon managed to pass as well, and finished off the bird and saving our comrade.

Now that was the end of our session today, with the lion being the only one remaining (we play on Roll20). Yet for some reason, I feel the balancing is all out of wack. I heard the prologue was fine, but almost every foe we've fought against has nearly killed one of us, and in one's case, nearly died twice. I like the campaign and the RPG, but beginner squires should not be obliterated on the first few sessions.

Only out of sheer luck. That attack would have killed me had it not mauled the crap out of my horse. I have only 25 health, my horse 52 (being a destrier).

Hopefully they know how to balance combat since I've been playing tabletop with them for four years. Could be that we tried a new RPG, but the DM has had time to balance out combat since they're always so keen on running tests.

I'm just tired of brand spanking new characters nearly dying before they finish their first adventure, especially in one hit. I don't mind character death in tabletop but I don't really enjoy it when its "Oh, hey, a new per--aaaand they're dead already" with characters dying right after the first few rounds of combat they've ever been in.

Even when playing Song of Swords, a RPG tries to emulate medieval combat through vicious mauling and other types of wound disadvantages, this never happened. You had to plan your attacks (both PC and DM's NPCs)... not just hope you survive against a werebeast that can't fail rolling d20s (dice are little different than RPGs like D&D--a 20 is a fumble but they can't fumble when their skill level is 20) and their attack deals 30 damage maximum possible (5d6, which is more than the average health), or if they crit by rolling a 20 and promptly deal up to 60 damage (10d6, which is pretty much killing us twice over if the werelion is super lucky).

For reference, the rough average amount of damage we can put out is around 18 per hit if we are lucky. And that includes even hitting since the werelion gets two attacks (so did the bear, although the moss knight got a whopping four). You may pass but if your opponent gets a higher roll in a contested roll against you, you're most likely to have the same thing happen to you like I had complained earlier. Simply, you're probably almost dead or dead.

Eh, true. Still, you can only go so far after being nearly killed several times in one session. I suppose I just needed to let out some frustration after seeing all of our fresh and new characters be on the verge of death multiple times in the first few rounds of combat they were in.

Ahem, I hate it when people come to RPs and ask stuff like "can I do this, what about playing as this or that" and they go on with that even after you say no, trying to find a new angle or loophole to get their idea through or part of that idea even when you clearly detest it and tell them that.

I mean, if it says "no magic" in the description stop trynna make your character do "special moves" and "techniques" that clearly surpass and ignore some of the universal laws like gravity or inertia.

So, yeah. Back to the whole using this thread to vent about our own roleplaying annoyances...

I was going through some older fan fiction I wrote. Which was beyond frustrating. To the point where you want to strangle your younger self. When you get into college level writing comprehension/vocabulary courses before you're even out of fifth grade. I question why my knowledge doesn't always translate onto the page. I nearly want slap my brain, every time I see it. So going through over 160,000 words and seeing the same mistake over and over.



For. Fuck. Sake. Stop. Forgetting. The. Apostrophe. In. 'It's'. It's. Not. That. Hard!
