Phoniks took a huge hit, but still had some strength in her. Liz wanted Larvesta bad, and with only one pokeball left she had to make this count. If she was going to be the best, she would have to find a way to bring this bug down.
"Alright honey, I know that hurt, but we still got a shot here. Try peck again!!" Murkrow took off once more towards her opponent.
Larvesta built up a powerful Ember as the Murkrow began her attack. Then, just before she was in Pecking range, the Larvesta released it's Ember attack right at her face, while at the same time, dodging to the right.

She could see Sunsay town in the distance, her strategy was to get to town and pick up some more pokeball and scout out the gym so she could form a strategy to get her first badge.

Light was beginning to return to the sky. The sun would be peaking over horizon shortly. The power of youth and excitement had kept Liz up this long, but perhaps a rest and a meal at the Pokemon Center would do her some good soon.
As she walked, a small rock in the distance began to glow a strange pale light. Was it reflecting the light from the sky above? Or was it producing its own light? It would be too hard to tell from this distance. It was quite a ways off the main trail Liz was taking, so there was a large chance she would miss it. What a shame if that were to happen.

As Liz made her way over the top of another hill, a small blue boulder with red dots came into view. What a strange looking rock.
The "rock" then started moving. No, it was a Pokemon. As her path brought her closer, it was revealed to be a Phanpy. The little guy was still asleep. It sure would be a shame to wake it up from such a cute slumber, but when would Liz run into one of these again? She had a decision to make.
This Phanpy is level 23, so be careful. What will Liz do?

"Arachne, use absorb, let's take it by surprise!!" Archne came prepared for battle.

Liz was trying her best to be careful and quiet, but Phanpy's big ears clearly picked up on the sound of a Pokeball popping open. As he opened his eyes, he was surprised to see a spider beginning to glow with a green aura. Instinctively Phanpy didn't know what else to do than start Flailing around, completely unaware of his own strength.

Huffing, Rin panted "How much do you two weigh?" Thirty-four pounds to be exact. Thirty-four extra pounds to lug and trudge up an incline; not to mention Rin liked to do things the hard way, and was jogging as best they could the whole time. Understandably, hiking up hills with these two in their arms was proving much more straining than Rin had anticipated. Stubbornly, Rin trekked on, not wanting to concede to exhaustion, but as per their blunt nature they vocalized it all the way with self-encouragements. What began as cocksure confidence began to wane along with the setting sun. The encouragements became more scattered, and Osajyin had even fallen into a nap. "Come on, Rin. Uh, think about Kairi racing behind you." Rin appealed to their own competitive spirit as Anusobeket took on the role of cheerleader, and confidently babbled back in support. "Think about- think about . . . Umi nagging- Umi!"

Spinarak readied herself for another attack, but this time, she wouldn't get the slightest bit of surprise on her opponent. Phanpy immediately rolled up and charged forward with Rollout. It's amazing how fast the little blue Pokemon flew at the poor Spinarak. She didn't even have a chance.

The city was bigger than Zueric Town and she saw people bustling about their day. She whipped out her Pokedex as the nurse took her Pokemon and sent a message to Rin.

A gentle nudge and a bellowing roar, the combination was just enough to pull Smeargles attention away from the scene before him. When turned around he was face to face with beautiful glowing Pokemon. A giant smile crossed over his face as he took in the glow. Then he flicked his tail above his head, which somehow produced the same dazzling light, to cover his body. His version wasn't nearly as refined, but for a first attempt, it was still impressive.
Chikorita's move is better, but only just. Under normal circumstances, he would regain 1 Power. But seeing as he is already at full power, nobody is effected.
Be careful, Smeargle is only level 5. He could have passed out from shear overwhelming beauty if Chikorita's synthesis would have been any more dazzling.

As Liz slept, a buzz was circling around the Pokemon center. It was a trainer that just got back from adventuring. Apparently he had stumbled on a fairly rare Pokemon nearby and was bragging all about it. Chances were, he'd still be down there by the time she woke up. He sure loved to talk.
But that wasn't all that happened while Liz was sleeping. She also missed a call from Professor Eugene. He left a message for her as well, "Hey there. I was just returning your call. Please, give me a video call back as soon as you can. I'd love to see this rock you've found."

The red light quickly snatched up the Pokemon. Then it began. The wait. One shake.... .....Two shake.... ..........Three shake..... ...............Four shake......
And then... *BING!* And with that, Rin was the proud new trainer of the artist Pokemon known as Smeargle.
Congratulations! You've caught a Smeargle. He's only level 5, but that's what trainers are for. Take care of the little guy. He's a bit naive.

You've ran across Raw Normalium! I'm glad you reported this finding to me! Whenever you get the chance, you should come back to my lab. I don't know if you know this, but we here at my lab specialize in extracting and refining Z Crystals from their natural state. I'd be happy to explain all about Z Crystals if you need the lesson, but there is also an article on this in your Pokedex.... I look forward to seeing you soon!"
Liz's jaw hit the floor as she heard what she held in her hands, she couldn't believe her luck, now she was going to become even stronger in battle, Rin wouldn't win again after this find indeed.
"Sure professor, I will be there sometime tomorrow I am hoping, but I just caught wind of a rare pokemon I want to check out!! See you soon." Liz hung up with the professor, she was going to save her new ability as a surprise for Rin, but now she had to find out about this pokemon. She walked right up to the trainer. "So you found a rare pokemon?? What was it?? Where did you see it?? I have to know, I want to catch it!!" She didn't waste any time getting to the point, she wanted to catch the Pokemon and go to the professors lab as fast as possible.
