Awesome to see the IC up and running. I’ll have my first post up today or tomorrow.

Sorry for the double post but I’ve got a few questions.

The letter that was delivered, and the strange magic hand sigil. How would this work in ya’ll opinion/imagination, with a siren who just came into dry land, and can’t read. She would probably be freaking out about her hand, and having no clue about the letter. I have a idea I could write, but I’m not loving it. So I want to hear how others would write this or handle it.

I used to RP with someone whose character was dyslexic in a medieval setting, and therefore could not read or write reliably. However she did receive letters, which her friend or husband would read to her. If your Siren got a letter delivered, depending on how she deals with people socially, she might ask someone else to dictate it to her and read it out loud.

I have an idea. So basically there was a storm, a shipwreck and above a floating piece of wood she found a young handsome black haired sailor. She helps the sailor to shore, makes sure he is alive, gives him thorough cpr and waits around for him to wake up. When he wakes up he is amazed by her beauty and starts chatting with her, telling her he is a prince, but the siren is too shy to talk back so he assumes she is mute. The sailor checks his pockets to make sure the letter is there and thanks the siren before leaving. But the tornado that remains spinning from the storm comes near the shore and throws at him a black octopus. He dies instantly. The siren cries a little before touching the letter with her hands. She suddenly feels a burn and gets a mark over her hand and an instinct telling her that she should open the letter.

Ps: Also for this to work the siren must have red hair.

Oh, I'm so sorry, I was under the impression that her people had been on land for a few years now (the Oceana Abyssal's corrupted expansion drove them to land about 4 to 5 years ago), and while she wasn't perfect at reading and speaking- she was capable of it. That was a complete screw-up on my part. I assumed she was cloistered, but taught rudimentary things to survive. Maybe going this route would be best? That way she's still naive, but not so new to absolutely everything?

Like Life In Stasis (is Stasis cool to call you btw?) suggested it's possible that she could ask for the help of local inn-keepers if she couldn't read in common but could speak it. I think based on lore this would make the most sense.

I have something that could explain the letter portion, but I don't really want to spoil it. Sooo I think this would work best.

Also, this is for everyone, I've added a 'Companion' section to the Atlas. Through your travels, depending on your actions, you may come to recruit a number of companions to help you on your journey. For certain missions you can request the help of this companion to unlock bits of lore/alternate routes/etc. As well, when setting up camp between quests you can interact with these companions if you wish. Keep in mind that you can also lose companions based on decisions you make.

If this is convoluted and you hate the idea please let me know! I want this to be a fun experience, and not something bogged down with too many mechanics!

While I enjoy the mechanics, I gotta admit that with so many, it might actually become a bit too tabletop-y for us to play comfortably on the forums.

Loving the ICs so far guys!

@Frettzo
Hmm okay I'll definitely take this into consideration! Do you have any mechanic in mind in particular or is it just the companions idea? There aren't stats or anything when it comes to combat. We'll just be straight RPing that stuff.

@Frettzo I'm not thinking about any of that too much until it becomes relevant. There's no real stats or rolls or anything. If a companion comes up at some point, then I'll worry about it. It'll probably seem easier to understand by then.

@Famotill, nah, the companions are cool with me. I'm just saying things as a heads up, we don't want to get too bogged down in the future with so many new mechanics popping up :p

@Frettzo
Yeah for sure! If it's about the camp thing- just know I don't plan on it affecting gameplay. It's more of a chance for players to free roleplay with each other, discuss strategy IC, etc.

God damn it. I hate companions. Skyrim gave me PTSD flashbacks from all the

I swear if someone stops in front of me in a narrow path I'll write my character incinerating them to ash.

I think I agree with @Frettzo, it can be quite easy to become bogged down in a mire of player-driven NPCs xD

Having the occasional player NPC show up isn't an issue, like an old gang or ex(or both) that show up for a scene or two, but more than that it could get messy and hard to keep track of!

@Rithy
Very true, I'll try to keep this in mind.

It's also for this reason that the players more so control them in terms of "Hey can you give us any additional information about how to do 'x' or help us get in 'y'" rather than them physically joining you.

Anyway, I'm being wordy again and over explaining things, lol

Haha, I think they're still figuring things out for their post. I know at least two people are at work right now, lol. Technically someone else posted, but it was another 1x1 that I can post yet, lol (spoilers abound)

Also, the person who had signed on to play a gnome hasn't been active in here at all...so I'm not sure they're still interested lol. Vertigh0st was making a character, but I'm not entirely sure how that's been going for them.

Worst case scenario we just move on, and the parties are still balanced :D (or if you all want the same amount of party members I could open the RP up to replacement characters).
