I actually love the Time period
I especially love the colorful military uniforms of the time LOL

Yes, I can see that, Rumiko XD. The people of that time really knew how to look like gentlemen. I'm still trying to figure out how Garrett can possibly sort out this situation he inadvertently got himself into, with his carefree attitude

Pistols at 30 paces LOL
If he apologizes then no worries, in fact Rich isn't really that interested in killing or injuring the Pilot but as an officer and gentleman he's required to address any slight on his uniform especially as a new commander of the ships complement

That reminds me, I've seen a couple of guys do a duel with nerf guns at 30 paces. They missed each other about 5 times till they agreed on just 10 paces. Most entertaining duel I've ever seen XD. Ok, I guess Garrett could just apologize. He's not really the type to make enemies anyhow. Unless of course you meet him while riding in a French plane at above 10,000 feet...

Actually most pistols back then were very bad a hitting their targets from range with miss fire, which is one of the reasons why I have Briggs using a pair of sawed off double barrels, usually the paces were shorten down, and my favorite duel was the family guy duels

one was a duel where they slapped each other when the man was finished counting and said turn.

the second was Willam hole in the torso verses a guy that had a large block like torso, the block guy missed and began moving around back and forth.

In my head, the pistols issued to Garrett and Hal have two uses:

1. To at least have some form of protection in case they crash or get stranded in hostile territory.
2. To shoot themselves before they get captured/tortured by the enemy. Or before they die from starvation, frost, heat, or any other environmental hazard.

In a way, it goes in line with the Royal Navy's prejudice that airplanes are useless compared to airships, and do not expect pilots to live very long in combat situations.

As for duels... I found that one Simpson's episode pretty funny. Where Homer randomly challenged people to duels in order to get them to give in to his wishes. Until of course he challenged some Texan guy who was a "professional duelist". It had this build-up towards the climactic fight between them and well... Let's just say it ended with Homer getting some lead in his stomach immediately after the countdown XD

LoL so the pistol is more dangerous to the shooter, than the person your aiming it at, Damn, I'm totally glad I gave Briggs double barrels, your only safe a certain distance away from her.

For most pilots, yeah that's the case, since it's what they're ordered to do in the event of such a situation. Although Garrett is the sort of guy who would fight to the last breath (possibly Hal too). So expect them to go guns blazing before they have to off themselves XD.

Despite her weapon, I think Briggs should still stay away from ground combat (as squads of riflemen out-range any other gun of the time-period). Close-Quarter-Combat on the Pegasus though... Enemies would be wise to stay away from the engine room with Briggs around XD

Boarding the ship and engaging in close quarters means the Frogs will face Rich's Marines and his skill at blades

On a ship like the Pegasus, would there normally be a small team? Or would there be some kind of system built into the boilers to prevent them from needing constant attention?

On a ship like the Pegasus, it would be entirely boiler run, being the size of a Brig. Because of the increased weight of the iron plates and the limited space to store coal, the magician and engineer are expected to work in tandem to figure out a system.

What are the odds the crew would accept a former pirate as a doctor? In the event that I were to join this, of course. The liberator kind that took over slave ships and freed the people?

Odds are good, especially if said pirate billed him/herself as a former "Privateer" with letters of marque (mark?).

I don't imagine that steampunk has a whold lot of gender issues... Y'know with it being Victorian Era based, and y'know... Queen Victoria... I'd imagine that skin colour matters less when there are vampires, werewolves, and fairies in the world. Though, based on the Chief's character concept, he's probably holding back out of professionalism, not open mindedness.

Indeed! This universe sees a lot more prejudice toward the supernatural creatures than other races and women, though slavery still exists in the United States and Latin America. One of the reasons Napoleon is so successful is, like it or not, 'Liberty, Equality, Fraternity' plays well with the supernaturals on the continent who have experienced a brutal three centuries.

Am I to assume that there will prevail an informality aboard ship which is not as would be expected by the standards of the time period?

There will be a degree of informality. (looking back on this, I should've spent my free time in the hospital expanding my IC post lol) People of rank, IE Captain, First Mate and Gunnery Officers will have to be distinguishable. Everyone else is free to dress as necessary.

Lol, Briggs would hardly leave the ship due to not knowing where she is so she'd get lost too much.

Commian said Ah ha! It's back. I shall be writing up a character shortly. You seem to have the same idea as me Ermine in the matter of a ex-pirate crew member.
Same crew, maybe? Not sure I'm going to do this, since I'll be running another game soon involving the same concept. Again not entirely sure I'll even join at all.
Trinais said Odds are good, especially if said pirate billed him/herself as a former "Privateer" with letters of marque (mark?).
(Marque. -nodnod-)
Maybe when she started out it was just unlicensed piracy, then that. Not sure. Maybe she ended up in the navy BECAUSE of that. -shrug- Just ideas. Like I said up there, not entirely sure I'm even going to join (but I will watch like that creepy perv on the park bench).

Since there seems to be a large intrest in pirates, I wanted to point out that The Golden Age of Piracy was already in a decline by 1720, and was over bt the 1730's. Granted, pirates have pretty much always existed in some form or another, and the narative is really more important than strict accuracy. It just might be good to keep in mind that pirates were not nearly as common in the era this RP takes place.

Wow! well first off.. Thanks for the acceptance. Glad to be aboard. (literally and figuratively) XD Either way, I'm really excited that everyone seems so interested in this, can't wait to get started. I have to say, from having little hopes for this thing actually taking off, in exchange picking other things up, shows I follow, and the untimely release of Titanfall, (which i have *STILL* yet to get to on my list of things!) I'll be fairly busy but will try to make this more of a priority.

On the note of piracy, It's totally existent even in today's time. Sure it's not the Pirates of the Caribbean/Somalia that we imagine, the core function of it still is there. So yea, totally plauseable. I will say though that Miklòs will have a natural grudge against them... for obvious reasons. XD
