A Queen also needs political advisors, economic advisors, people who have actually lived with the common folk of her realm, and not just stole every single gold coin they make.

The only real barbarians are kept well in check by Vrenal. And if it becomes an issue, we know what to do.

Would the Foronians count as 'barbarians' too? The have managed to form city-states and some level of government, but they do still spend a lot of time killing each other over petty spoils.

--+++--

A Queen wouldn't want to just have random commoners in her court they know next to nothing about the larger world around them, often times the merchants and craftsmen were chosen in their position because they were the closest.

That would depend on the nature of the provinces from which they came. If one of them were a coalition of free farmers, then their representative would be the farmer who would best represent their ideals in the council. On the other hand, if they were a bunch of marsh dwelling fishermen, they'd probably have a lowborn fish tickler as their representative.

It's not necessarily about who would be best for the Queen, more who would be best for their province.

@RoccanIronclad Added Kagrenan to the political map, on the mountain range to the south of the Crownlands, but north of Laurensia which is on the southernmost border of Viexmeur.

Do any of you have sigils or heraldry for your provinces? Preferably something circular and about 100x100 pixels, or at least something which can be easily scaled down to that size.

As an example, the Laurensi use the 'Golden Branches' as their sigil. A tree bending over with heavy golden branches and whose roots are red with... well, let's just say "opportunity" and leave it at that.

Yes I understand that, I know what I messed up on earlier.

For a sigil, I will be using this.

Okay everyone, I think I'll start working on an OP for the IC thread over the next couple of days, and should have it up by Saturday night. This should give our last couple players a chance to finish up their character sheets.

I'm planning on opening the action just after everyone has sworn homage and fealty to the High Queen, since making everyone act out a ceremony like that would take forever. There'll be a dinner in the Great Hall after that, which should give all the characters a chance to introduce themselves and get acquainted. The actual business of governing the realm will begin the next day.

If possible I would like this as the insignia of Kagrenan @Genni

Also that's a good argument however still even in such a case which is mostly what Kagrenan is they would likely send someone with political experience, just the same, the one they can trick out of the city.

I will be withdrawing my interest from this RP with awesome potential. I've been forced to reconsider my available time with regards to my history exams. Have a great one!

Where did this map come from? I have to redo several bits I wrote about both my character and Pridania itself because... well, I had no idea there was a map, until after it popped up and it conflicts with everything I wrote with it.

That's my fault. I should have thought to put the map somewhere in the OP so someone wouldn't have to skim through several pages of OOC discussion to find it, and I should have read your sheets a little more carefully. I didn't even catch the parts about geography.

Aye. The geography I made up for Pridania doesn't match the map at all- not unless the island on the shown map has at least... five different states on it.

And I'll also have to revise my character's history, considering that now there's no borders to have raids and wars on. Just open sea and nothing else.

Well, the island looks to be more than half the size of the area occupied by the Foronian states, of which there are several. I imagine there would be space enough for other polities. Also, there's no reason to suppose the western fringe of the map gives way entirely to empty sea. There certainly could be more islands to the west.

I made the first version a few days ago, and have been updating it with faction details as people confirm them. It's still a work in progress though, so if there's a problem I can always change it rather than making you rewrite too much. :)

The simplest solution would be to just remove the reference to Pridania and say it's a little further west, off the edge of the map.

There certainly could be more islands to the west.

There's definitely at least one big one, otherwise the Empire of Acirum would be a bit of a damp place to live. :p

On the subject of scale, I'm envisioning the map as about the size of Europe. Which would make the Crownlands the size of France and Germany combined, and each of the provinces about the size of Switzerland or Austria, with space for several large settlements and abundant land around them.

Some would be open with plenty of fertile soil (like France), while others would be mostly mountainous (like Switzerland), or covered with dense forests (like medieval Britain.)

This would make 'Pridania' about the size of Spain, which did have many city states until forming a unified government in 1492.
(They actually started the process in either 718 or 722, depending on which historical reference you refer to, but most agree that they completed the Reconquista in 1492, shortly before the Age of Discovery.)

Right, so ill just go with Pridania being listed because its the only citystate that has prominence to the rest of the world, and the only one on the island that deals with our host nation in any major capacity.

Also, now I will say that Pridania live in an environment similar to Ireland, with very similar accents. :3
