Elodea "Ellie" Verdantweed

Age: 60

Gender: Female

Race: Sea Elf

Job: Apothecary and Navigator's Assistant

Personality: Ellie is a peaceful soul, if somewhat skittish, who will avoid partaking in acts of violence by any means necessary. Often, that means simply removing herself from the situation, and for that, some may call her a coward. Likewise, she hates confrontations or upsetting people, so is subservient, never giving orders to another; she merely suggests or puts them forward as questions. Though at first she might seem furtive, if one takes the time to get to know her they will find she is very open and honest, enjoying pleasant company as much as she enjoys listening to the wind and waves. There is a certain naivety in her world views, but she is slowly learning from the crew, her “family”, that the world may not live up to all her hopes.

History
Born the later in a set of non-identical twins, Elodea and her brother Densa were the children of Zostera and Thalassia Verdantweed, husband and wife. Growing up in Lytheria was a rich experience and the tides never failed to bring all manner of wonderful travellers and trinkets from the exotic lands above the water. Their father was a rather successful tradesman, specialising in glow globes, glass spheres that enhanced the natural capabilities of bioluminescent algae (teeny tiny plants that spoke in the barest of whispers) to provide a submersible and reliable light source for diving expeditions, as well as other supplies needed for such ventures. As such, both children got a better exposure to the Folk From Above than most others their age. Whilst Ellie was amazed by the people and how funny they looked and the odd foods they brought, it was the stories that seized Densa, and he would always try and gleam whatever he could from the foreigners, ever-curious about what lay beyond the surface.

It came as no surprise then that when they entered education, both magically gifted, Densa chose to pursue the magic and spells that humans often sought out. Elodea’s magic manifested itself more naturally, attuning herself further with the elements, she found herself able to talk to the sea creatures and plants, and even listen to the tides and eventually understand their moods. Many hours would be lost in idle conversation with shoals of friendlier animals in the reefs and harbours around the city.

As their education progressed, Densa began to distinguish himself as a student, and began spending vast amounts of time working in the Dry Rooms. Ellie was proud as ever, having always looked up to her brother. Gradually, she began to see less and less of him.

Her own magic had bloomed too, and she could now identify most plants and ascertain their uses, under the tutelage of the professors in the Alchemical and Apothecarial Arts that urged her to study under them. She accrued favours but also lengthened her list of those she owed during this time.

Then came the day that her brother was to leave with a crew from Laxen, a human crew. He urged her to come with him, but Ellie was content under the waves; he clearly got all the ambition and drive in the womb. Yet Densa understood, for he loved his sister deeply, and so left her a necklace, a simple, charmed thing that was a proof of concept and part of a thesis required for his advancement. He explained it would act as a concentrated searchlight when activated, so long as she never damaged it, so she could keep a piece of him with her, and that she was always welcome in case she ever changed her mind. Their parting was pleasant, if steeped ambivalence.

Years passed until she would hear of her brother again. Part of her wished she didn’t. The ship he had been sailing on was reported missing, and then, found beneath the sea. She was not worried; he could not drown. Yet the circumstances surrounding the sinking of the vessel were veiled in mystery and gossip. There was no crew found aboard the wreckage, or anywhere nearby, and no land for them to have found sanctuary. Some believed the ship was scuppered, some that the beasts of less passive inclination had consumed all the corpses, others that pirates had captured the crew and sunk the ship, yet oddly a vast number of valuable goods were recovered from the wreckage by rescue crews.

Elodea, having visited the wreckage herself and gleaming nothing, decided to set of for the surface, alone, unsure what else to do; needing only to find her brother. Maybe she’d find him by simply looking, or maybe embracing his lifestyle would clue her in on what exactly happened, and she could inquire about the case with those who sailed so often. Regardless, she was adrift.

After many months of observing crews, and even travelling with a few to different shores, the Great Aquarius came in to harbour. She knew something was special about it. Eventually she was able to convince herself more a boon than a burden and was brought on as a member of the crew. That was two years ago.

Not particularly suited to manual labour, Ellie will often reside herself to swabbing the deck, shrinking away from other crew members, never wanting to be in their way. Her magic allows her to be a great help with navigation, and her skills with plants mean she can stave of most ailments when the supplies are there. Sometimes when rations are low she can scavenge edible plants from under the waves, preferring not to hunt for fish, since they aren’t willing to be eaten quite so often, and can prepare meals if it is called of her.

Though the trail to her brother is cold, and those around may have come to their grim conclusions, she still maintains the belief that she’ll find her brother, someday.

Magic
Ellie’s magic attunes her with nature. She can communicate with animals, if they are willing, though her understanding of plants is deeper, and she can gleam much from simple conversations and observations. She cannot alter or assert her will over any of these beyond the affect her words will have. On a more basic level she can listen to the tides and, she found out, the winds, and understand their temperament; useful for plotting courses and predicting weather patterns. Though it is not infallible, it is reasonably accurate.

Other: A large portion of the time her entire form will be damp; she likes to take dips in the water when there’s a lull in activity. Though she believes in all the gods, the Glowing Maiden is who she prays to most.

Name:Eiko Uranos

Age:19

Gender:Female

Race:Human

Job:sharpshooter

Personality: Eiko is a quiet person who prefers to be alone and when she speaks she talks in an apathetic tone as if she lacks any interest in speaking to the person that's with her. When it comes down to guns she is surprisingly proficient and very knowledgeable of most powder weapons in their day, the range of them, how well they'd be useful in the hands of certain people, and at times able to predict their miss fire rate from simply glancing at the weapon's condition; the sharpshooter also knows how to better fire her weapon and about the timing for when to shoot over far distances through calculations of the wind and bullet drop. On the other end, she's not exactly the best when it comes to fighting someone up close, even with her pistol, her first thought when it comes to close quarters combat is to fall back and get the ranged advantage on the enemy to take them out, most of her close combat experience is basic smash someone in the face with the butt of her rifle before jumping back from them.

While she isn't the best at doing it, she tinkers with her rifle and bullets to further improve her shots or decrease her reloading time, she also tries to add to her rifles items that could aid in her shooting or fighting, such as a bayonet or a small monocular scope. When it comes down to taking subtle hints or getting inside jokes Eiko is slow to catch on to them and doesn't understand why people aren't just blunt like she is and it annoys her when people beat around the bush not getting to the point of what they are trying to do or say.

When she's not completely blunt, Eiko's got a completely deadpan look about her and an almost thousand yard stare even when she's looking at people, unless it comes to guns she doesn't have much interest in certain things even if it involves her; while he may not seem like it she's mostly honest even willing to answer really personal questions when asked. Eiko is also very adept at making her own bullets and experiments with different types, while she's out and about or doing other things her mind constantly thinks on ways to improve her bullets and ways to make them better.

History: From what her former captain and father told her, he killed her mother but she managed to still give birth to Eiko after death, and after considering just dropping her into the ocean he kept her. When she learned how to walk her father taught her how to shoot to make sure she wasn't useless, despite being a small eight-year-old she managed to be a good enough shot to hit her targets most of the time but couldn't handle the recoil of the rifles and was given a pistol before learning what her father and his crew sailed for.

They were sea elf hunters, bigots who believed that the elves from under the sea were the cause for the world becoming flooded and had given themselves the ability to swim like fish to put themselves at an advantage when Eiko questioned her father and asked if it's wrong to hurt elves that aren't hurting anyone, he beat her in front and stomped on her telling her how they are the problem and his crew are the solution, if she didn't want to help in it then she would be gutted like a fish and throw overboard to see if the elves would help her. At the age of ten, Eiko got her first kill, it was a sea elf with the pistol her father had given her, once he knew what she had done he was more than happy to see how she was becoming one of them and even gifted her a rifle that she could call her own and for the first time he told her that he loved her.

As the years dragged on, Eiko became a better shot hitting targets from longer ranges and with her customizations on her rifle her misfire rate drastically dropped to allow her to hit shots easier, with each kill she made her father praised her calling her his "perfect little monster" showing his love to her physically after most of their big fights with large groups of elves and once he noticed she had fire magic he utilized it by forcing her to make bullets for the crew even giving her tools to perfectly shape them so their rifles and pistols wouldn't jam. One day there was an attack on her father's ship, both by an enemy ship of orcs and a group of sea elves coming from the water, Eiko couldn't remember the entire attack but she could remember drifting face up in the ocean, she couldn't figure out why she didn't bother swimming or moving as the waves carried her.

It felt like she drifted for days before a ship actually picked her up, clenched in her broken hands was her rifle as they brought her aboard the ship and patched up her injuries the best they could with her wondering as to why they bothered helping her, she didn't ask why but silently joined them not having much choice unless she decided to jump overboard and swim away. She stayed with the crew keeping mostly to herself and speaking when spoken to first, with no real reason to lie to anyone she answered Izal's questions honestly telling them of her magic and that she was a sharpshooter on the last ship she was on, but she never told him what she was always supposed to fire on without hesitation or the body count she had on them.

Shes only been with the group for a couple months.

Appearance:Eiko stands at the height of five foot three inches, she has short raven colored hair cut into a simple bob, her eyes are a bloodshot smokey lifeless grey color from possible lack of sleep, her skin is a pale color due to her avoiding sunlight, she has an androgynous face with small hints of femininity. Eiko has a thin but somewhat muscular build, with visible muscles on her upper arms and legs but with a slender form overall, her bust is measly size not even passing B-cup, across different parts of her body she has scars from previous past injuries, one of her more visible scars are the stable scars on the back of her hands and the scars at the joints of her fingers.

Eiko keeps a tattered grey scarf wrapped around her nose and mouth, an oversized long dark coat covers most of her body with a large buckle at the waist to hold the coat closed when it gets too cold, under her coat she has a plain white blouse, a pair of dark brown trousers covers her legs accompanied with a pair of boots a size too big. Wrapped around her coat she keeps a long strap to hold her rifle, on the inside of her coat she has a pistol holster.

Weapons:

Magic:Eiko's magic is mostly a fire-based magic that her father told her she got from her good for nothing mother, she has the ability to both heat up her hands to the point where metal can deform and bend to the slightest touch and ability to make small sparks through snapping her fingers when she really concentrates on her magic. While others are more adept at their magic, Eiko needs to really focus on her magic in order to use it to it's fullest

Other:
-She carries around a set of tools to help her create ammo from scrap metal, such as a musket ball mold and a number of other tools to keep her rifle working properly.
-She doesn't trust Ellie and even believes Ellie dislikes her, she also has a hard time trusting most elves as well.
-She is a strong swimmer
-Eiko carries a small telescope
-She is known by some Elf slayer Eiko

Kiandra Dolan

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Job: Marine - she is frequently the leader of boarding parties on pirate or other enemy vessels, or at the forefront of defending against boarders. She is cross-trained in rigging work for the sails, when outside of battle.

Personality: Kiandra is not an especially personable woman. Sometimes people assume her quiet, withdrawn, taciturn and unfriendly nature is because she has some tragic backstory - but no. Kiandra just isn't good with people. She's poor at expressing her emotions and even worse at picking up on the nonverbal and social cues everyone takes for granted. She has a tendency to be blunt and literal minded - in regards to what everyone else says, though when it comes to herself, she is quite fond of sarcasm. She enjoys structure and clearly delinated rules, and despises vague orders or unclear instructions. Kiandra also tends to have something of an obsessive personality - she has a few interests, and she'll tend to bring any conversation that goes long enough around to them one way or another - combat (for sport and actual), theater, Elven Poetry and wine (she's something of a wine conneseiur, though she's hardly rich enough to really support her interest beyond the theory) being the chief among them.

History
Kiandra was born to a comfortable, middle-class family that own an Inn and Tavern in Laxen. She was originally expected to inherit the tavern along with her older brother, and was trained as such, but her poor inability to interact with the customers screwed that plan up rather severely. She was enrolled in the Marines as much to find a useful and productive place for her as anything else. She showed a great skill for hand-eye coordination (at age 14, for example, she was the best darts player in the tavern, even counting regulars decades older than her) and while she sucked with people, her appreciation for rules and order made her seem a good fit for military life. At 17, she was enrolled in the marines and served in the Laxen Navy for five years with skill and distinction - she took to her training quickly and easily, serving bravely in boarding actions and scoring well in various training wargames done by the Fleet against eachother or those of allies. None of the battles she served in were exactly noteworthy in their own way - minor skirmishes against pirates and that sort of thing - but she had distinguished herself in the context of those battles. Her most noteworthy act in battle when she led an attack on the pirate vessel Wavekiller after her vessel's marine officer had been incapacitated, nearly single-handedly turning the tide on the ongoing battle when she forced the pirates to actually defend their own vessel instead of attacking hers. She climbed into the rigging, cutting many of the ropes and hanging on from others as she engaged in a very reckless, but showy, use of her pistol-crossbow against the pirates trying to stop her from cutting their sails free.

She mustered out when she was twenty-two, an arrangement she had planned on being temporary - she enjoyed the rigorous life of a Marine, after all, and the challenges it presented, but she wanted some time to herself, to attend some theater productions (she rarely ever had the time while in the service, since leave and theater times didn't exactly often match up) and visit her family and spend time with her brother's young children. She actually managed to get on with the children somewhat better than the adults - though given that they were four and two respectively, that didn't necessarily count as much. She intended to stay off for a year, helping in the back of the inn to cover her room and board, before re-enlisting for another five year stint in the Marines.

But she had made something of a reputation of her own among the sailors and marines of the Navy, and of course, with those whom they talked to. Word reached Delilah and Izal of her... reckless feats. With no war on, her talents were wasted in the Marines - especially when more money could be made serving on Delilah's vessel. Kiandra didn't really care much one way or the other about making more money, but she was curious about what serving under Delilah might be like - stories had gathered about what the woman had been up to in the last many years, many of them implying that she might see some interesting combat, against much more unusual enemies, in the little-sailed areas that privately held ships with more eclectic crews might sail into. It was for that, more than anything else, that saw Kiandra accept the offer.

Nyaleth Treekeeper

Age: 94 (Land Elf equivalent of 20 yrs old)

Gender: Female

Race: Elf (“land elf”)

Job: Repairwoman, Druid/Mage

Personality:

• Nyaleth is an intellectually curious individual, someone who’d be great at studying something and investigating strange objects and the relics of ancient past to an extent. She gets a sort of joy out of magic and learning about it and the past and such things in the world around her, sometimes visibly giddy and happy to the point that she has been silently dubbed by the crew she works for as a “certified nerd”.

Despite her love of learning, though, Nyaleth isn’t an utterly awkward person, able to chat up with others if they need to talk or such, and overall enjoying pleasant conversations and talks with others. Though as the crew she is on could perhaps note by now, her role as a drinking buddy is unrivaled in part due to being a “happy drunk” who can be pretty fun to be around (who once danced naked on a barrel one night).

She is also able to be serious as the situation determines she needs to be normally, though at time like when running about repairing the ship in the middle of a frenzy she can be a tad frustrated and grumpy amidst the chaos. Albeit, this grumpiness stems from how serious she takes her duties, a thing stemming from her old days back on her peoples’ island and continuing into now. She at times enjoys the relatively quiet nights afforded to life at sea as well, though her sense of guilt about abandoning her people for a life in the real world has been better eased over the years, mainly as she has learned of other land-dwelling elves who abandoned their home island to go out as well.

History:

• Back when the land was dry, and the peaks of mountains sat high above the world, and the water kept to its oceans and lakes and streams, Nyaleth’s ancestors walked the land as a long-lived people. But when the waters came and rose, her ancestors were among the few elves that defied the “gift” from their gods to adapt to this new and oceanic world that they lived in, huddling up on an island that would come to be covered in dense forest as the sea threats and hostile life pushed in onto this land with them over time. Born into the world ninety three years ago, Nyaleth was born to a married couple of high-class elven mages, who have lived long since the time of the “great flooding”. Her parents wanted her to become the epitome of a mage, a grand magic user as they each were as well. To this end, from the elven equivalent of the age of “three years old” her parents began forcing a regiment of magical training upon her, to “shape her up” as they had envisioned. She was even sent to a magical school upon the land elves’ island to be tutored and trained alongside peers as well.

For years upon years Nyaleth was drilled in the arcane, the druidic, the runes, and similar things of magical learning and ways her people had possessed seemingly since time immemorial. She learned also about some of the magical items traded to them by their sea-based kin, relics of the far past given in exchange for a non-hostile relationship as the sea-based elves settled in their island’s shallows since some time ago as her people had continued to build up their land more and more over time. In fact, the forced relationship non-hostile (albeit forced) relationship was how Nyaleth was exposed to sea elves when visiting the shore of her people’s island at times for a swim or to look out and see the horizon and such. However, with the sea elves not allowed to pass the forestline, after which only true elves could proceed, she never saw them enter the elven city proper. However, even to her in youth the “xenophobia” that still exists among her people today and was taught to her and other youth, though she at least was one who continued to question as to why this was how her people saw things to an extent.

Eventually, Nyaleth was chosen for a job among her people, due to her innate magical abilities, to be an assistant in the analysis and use of ancient relics traded to her people by the sea elves. And she did this for many a year, at least by human standards, until her magical skills were taken note of such that she was handed to another important position on top of this: assisting in the growing of trees, foods, dirt/earthen mass for expanding the island, and participating in the repairing of buildings. Being only the elven equivalent of 16 years old at the time, this was a big task, one that was necessary for her people’s continued survival. And she would not be alone, working with other elves and younger ones like herself who were to take up this task during the course of their lives as they rose up in the chain of things.

However, even life in this new second position was a challenge in and of itself. Constant training, strict regiment, though among her peers there was the ability to relax and play and banter and such among each other. It was a small comfort, and matters like playing on the beach and swimming at night in their birthday suits when the stars shone out was a common treat they’d partake in within her particular group when the adults were sleeping or not looking. Yet among her group alone, her innate magical talent that had been forged mightily by constant training stood out like a brick of gold next to a brick of mud, and it was such that the governing body of her people were looking to raise her even higher position to take advantage of such talent.

This promotion was to become an elite mage, a practitioner of magic among magical masters who was to be a bulwark of magical might to protect....and eventually guide them when she got older. In other words, a position that would have guaranteed her a government position of importance many years from now. An entry level that was to lead her to be tended and groomed to become an Elder one day. However, one night as she dwelled on this position during a midnight swim she came upon an odd thing, a creature that had been skulking on the part of the island she was to foster and protect in her prior druidic position. It had been rumored as being a monster or spirit that followed them to the island, but had been left alone since at its most it had but played pranks on them and left men among the sea and land elves with sexual dreams on many an occasion.

As she returned from a swim back to the beach where her clothing was, she found a beautiful woman standing upon the shore as if waiting for her......though on closer inspection, this woman had ocean-blue skin, a pair of black demon horns, a succubus’ beauty and human-shaped physical body, slightly pointy ears, and a demon tail coming just out of the top of her butt. It was a sea demon, a succubus of a water element, known in old tomes for its shapeshifting powers, innate abilities with water and water magic, impregnating women and getting pregnant by men after seducing them with its charms. It fed commonly on water-based creatures, of which there were plenty, but could also live solely on salt/fresh water and the water-containing fluids of sentient beings (such as blood and otherwise) when away from the water or otherwise if it needed to. A versatile but deadly creature.

Safe to say, this event was shocking, but the demoness simply approached her and noted aloud how she was being a bit of a “rule breaker” to go out this late and might draw attention if anything were to happen, a not too subtle threat that shut the elf up out of fear of being discovered in her current state. Listening on, the demoness spoke to Nyaleth, noting that it had been watching her for some time now, and that she seemed “different”, like some elves her age in the many years of the past. That she seemed to look out upon the horizon as if she wanted to go and explore, and wasn’t as shut-in as many of the other elves the demoness had seen and been around. And to this the young elf was forced to humbly admit that yes, she had thought about leaving, seeing what was beyond, but hadn’t found the strength to do so. To this the demoness, whose name was “Valrima”, gave a small laugh before telling the elf that she herself wanted to leave this island as well. That she had been trapped here by her former elven warlock master from just as the flooding of the world just began, who spitefully had kept her from going beyond more than five feet in the water away from the island with a curse. Albeit, he had done this to her after she had left him to die after he had slaughter some of her kin to make potions, and had attempted to do so to her after settling down on the island secretly with his elven kin.

Nyaleth felt some pity for this “monster”, bound to the land for the most part and unable to escape due to the curse of a vengeful elven warlock who had wanted to slay her. But before she could say a word herself on the matter, the demoness cut her off by proposing that the two get to know each other, since they both seemed to have a similar goal of leaving. If naught else, it might give them both “company” to enjoy in talking of their desires and of leaving this place. After some thought, the young elf agreed, on the conditions that the demoness became her familiar and by their contract would not seek her death. After a laugh, the demoness agreed, forming this magical contract of Nyaleth as the mistress and the demoness as her loyal familiar. It was, according to Val’s own blunt mention of the matter, “a far better idea to have someone to talk to rather than sitting around spooking kids and making men have odd sensations in their pants at night”. Further, to Nyaleth it was all some exposure to the “abnormal” beyond her own people and what she had seen of the sea elves, and was a chance to better herself and learn more as mage to boot since she now had a familiar bound to her very living soul itself.

However, one evening an event happened that shook the young elf’s life to the core. A deserter of her people approached her, begging for help, to be hidden, since his plan to leave had become known and his family had set out for his blood due to being some of the more extremist “xenophobes” among their people who saw such an action as leaving as being “traitorous” and worthy of death. Nyaleth was stunned by this, having been walking down the street on her way home for the night after a long day of work. She froze when it counted, and this led to the male elf who had come to her being captured and drug off by the authorities back to his home. The next day, the man’s body was found crucified to a tree, lifeless and hanging there near his own family’s home. This disgusted the female magic user/druidess, and left her finally turning to the idea of leaving the island...and her people...behind.

She trained with Valrima to learn the proper magics, observed sea elves and the few ships her people used to see how they were built and functioned. She looked up in her people’s libraries how to break curses, mainly the type placed on her familiar. Eventually Nyaleth built her own boat, a humble thing grown together by her magic with a rudimentary sail and rigging. She also performed a ritual that, after exhaustive research among her people’s existing records on warlock magic, finally broke her familiar’s curse binding her to the island as well. And then, that next night, she set off into the deep blue sea, not looking back as her people slept unaware of her desertion at that point in time. However, the open sea was rough, terrible, and were it not for Valrima being there along with her own magic to keep her from overturning in her tiny boat at least. She wasn’t a good sailor, but was a survivable one in practice.

Eventually, Nyaleth was found by a ship of dwarves, a group who had been setting off to bring goods to their mountain home after trading with the elves. Surprised and noting her skills with wood and overall magic, she was offered compensation and safe passage to the dwarves’ home in return for her services. Seeking to survive, Nyaleth obliged and mended their ship as they made the journey to the dwarven home city. Here, at the elven equivalent of 19 years old, she spent several physical years among the dwarves, learning the ways of sailing and shipbuilding/repair, using her magic and especially her abilities with wood and food growing to take advantage of the market for people like her. This eventually led her to be approached by a Captain named “Delilah” about six months ago, and taken onto her ship as its all-important repair-person, water-purifier, and food-grower who could help keep things running and make use of her magic otherwise for the sake of the mercenary ship’s voyages and activities.

And so she’s been there ever since, Val still by her side as her familiar and constant companion to boot as they have worked on a mercenary ship.

Weapons:

• Druidic Staff- A staff of twisted wood from the trees of her home island, a tool that is used to more easily cast large-scale magic spells and more quickly channel the druidic magic she knows dealing with earth and wood and similar matters. She can make more of these if broken, but safe to say she doesn't like having to make more or repair this one too often...albeit it has saved her from a bullet or two by chance in the past six months.

• Flintlock Pistols (2)- As part of her time among the dwarves, she was given a pair of rifled pistols as payment for a job she did for a gunsmith in making him a fine wooden table complete with chairs for he and his family to be put in their home. She was taught to use and care for them after this as payment for another job, and has since kept them around as a means of emergency self-defense where magic isn’t fast enough to use. Further, she quite enjoys having another means of protecting herself as well, practicing with them to maintain what marksmanship she has. She is not able to be considered a “sharpshooter” in regards to her skills, though she is competent enough to use them average-ly well.

Magic:

• Druidic Magic- From growing/manipulating wood and summoning earth, to summoning seeds and the ability to grow/manipulate other plants, to being able to make things like wooden planks grow back together to patch up holes in a ship, she has a solid if not superb level of skills in this area of elven magic that has made her a valuable commodity in this flooded world. Her specialty in this realm of magic are plants, essentially, with some added animal manipulation magic thrown into the mix of this as a necessity for dealing with the wild and hostile things on the island she grew up on.

• Arcane Magic- She is capable of using a basic “magic missile” spell of varying degrees of power and size to combat one or more enemies, this overall being just a basic form of offense for a magic user. But she has a general arcane magic education beyond this. Basics such as conjuration, divination, elemental spells, healing, using runes, and even basic things like forming barriers for protection are what one could expect to see in her repertoire of magical abilities and spells. Though she isn’t specialized in this area as she is with her Druidic Magic, she does have a general layout of skills and the innate magical power/talent/training to put this all to very good use in a versatile manner at least. Also includes spells for interfacing with magical objects, as part of her former job of investigating and analyzing them back home.

Other:

• She has her water succubus Valrima as her companion and familiar, who can be fun at parties, horny, enjoying of jokes and pranks, and also useful with her own abilities as a demoness. However, this demoness took to learn about using an axe and flintlock rifle while among the dwarves, just to keep from being bored as her master learned about flintlock pistols. Safe to say, she is a good shot on her own, snitched her own rifle a time back from some sucker at a poker game, and is able to be employed on the front lines to be of more use on the ship.

Izal Valencia

Age: 43

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Job: Vice Captain

Personality: Izal is a no-nonsense type of man with an attitude of seriousness and power about him. He falters to no man, and heeds to no warnings. He is one who fears little, but that which he does is well worth it. His mouth ushers only commands and knowledge, he leads and directs with conviction and strength. He is not afraid to speak the truth to people, but finds little desire in rambling and squabbling. He would sooner shank a man than pity them with an argument.

History: Izal grew up as a child to a fisher, a man of simple living in a world where fishing was almost key to survival. Izal's father, a man of stout nature and stouter drinking raised izal, in a sense, with little more than harsh words and thrown bottles. It was Izal's mother that left a better impression in the youngest years, as she taught the young childish Izal that he was free. Izal was always taught that the world was his to have and he would do with it as he pleased entirely. She encouraged him to run and explore and be curious and play. It was during those times that Izal began to experience weird sensations and events, only to learn he had magic like many others in the world, those his magic was unique and he would come to learn it was very unique indeed. Izal's father always hated her for such teachings though, as his father always tried to force the boy to work and stay put. His father burdened young Izal with the teachings of a man, long before Izal was of age to truly comprehend it all. He was torn due to this conflicting home, and grew up very confused about his place in the world for many years.

It wasn't until he came of age in his quaint town that he found something that made sense. The world seemed to finally grant Izal a bit of a break as he was let onto a proper ship at the age of fourteen and he left his town to serve on a vessel worth it's salt in duties and jobs. He was proud and happy, sailing and doing whatever he could no matter the pain and effort and this continued on for several years. Each day and night on this ship Izal worked til his hands bled and his body quaked in exhaustion and pain, but he never stopped. He always remembered what his mother taught him and spoke of for him, and it led to another step in hi life upon that ship. His magic flared for several nights as he worked, however no-one would know such as the magic that flared was internal. His body would last longer, do more, felt stronger, and he felt a power within him. He even once felt a strange sensation and saw a glimpse of a faded figure deep in his mind. He was uncertain of what it was, but much like the image the experience faded from mind as he worked and he felt his path opening. He accepted that this was his path to true freedom and that through this he would experience the world right and proper.

Several more years down the line and a man worth a damn stood at the Dockmand of Laxen, that man was Izal and he was built to sail and ready for his own hand at the helm. He sought to venture to the greater waters, to the rights of freedom true, to beckon the spirit of his mother to his side along the waves. He had saved his coin and payed off an ole ship from the Dockmand and took her out to sail after gathering a lofty crew of fearless drunk'a'bouts to handle the ship. Izal felt it was time, to dawn finally dawn his greatest gift, his only heirloom from home, a smile. It was his only smile, as well. He took his new ship out to sail with several contracts for various tasks from exploration to reclamation. He even had plenty of coin to scrounge out extra resources for his men and for the dedicated ones to have scrolls for spells to use during the assigned contracts. It was the beginning of something marvelous for Izal, it was the liberation of him and his first ship, the Great Aquarius.

Twenty years went on with Izal doing his best to rise the unlisted ranks of sailors, vying for the most well known name, most accomplished crew, most well equipped ship, and most importantly the most hardened and self-sufficient ship to sail the world over. It was during these twenty years that more of Izal's path came to fruition in the most strange of ways, of which the first dealt in his magic. During a routine dive contract to recover anything of value from a sunken remnant, a crew member was injured and Izal was left with a choice. He could have left the crew member and made it to surface before his magic scroll allowing him to breath ran out, or he could turn and retrieve the crew member putting his own life in extreme peril. He chose the latter because to Izal crew worth their salt are family, and true family is fought for in the end. He pushed his scroll's limits and finally it sundered while he shoved the injured sailor to the surface. Izal had immediately run out of air due to the drawback of the cheap scroll. He was instantly left to fight breathlessly for the surface while his crew aided the wounded to the ship. He was losing it, the sight of the sun and the ship, he felt it slipping as he realized he was sinking but he couldn't accept it. His path was not going to end here, his magic flared and finally he did more than just push his body, he had somehow created gills on the side of his neck which almost instantly took in oxygen for him. It filtered it in and he felt a rush of blood and energy to his head. He made it to the ship moments later and was astounded at his feat, it was something unheard of in the world, and it was done early on in his two decades as Captain. The second instance along his path came just four years into his sailing as Captain, in which Izal met a new friend. This friend could not speak, could not shake hands, could hold a blade, and even could not sail, but it was a friend for the ages and a cherished member of the crew. This new friend came in the form of a Boneflight Osprey which would soon be named Anari. Izal found Anari when he was held to port for a trade commission. The odd bird found her way onto the Great Aquarius and refused to leave, forcing her way into Izal's quarters and tearing through it without question and then roosting over his bed upon the quarters support rails. When Izal found the disaster he grew furious and lashed out in attempt to slaughter the bird, but what actually happened made him laugh in great jolly thunders. The bird shit on his head, and landed in his arm, and looked at him as if greatly unhappy. Izal had never found such a bird before in his life, none ever had such heart and attitude let alone the gall to shit upon a man's head and then land within their arms. Izal did little more than leave his quarters holding the bird with shit in his hair and hoist the bird up in his arms with a great laughter. He ushered his crew to welcome aboard the new member, Anari, the rowdiest crew member to date. The biggest path changer however came ten years into these two decades as a Captain, when Izal had found a certain Lady Delilah Laxen had snuck aboard the Great Aquarius and had been there for a while stowing away as a false crew member. The two spoke a great deal of many things over several months before Izal finalized a decision to allow her to stay aboard. She had spoken much of her personal life and a fair few things about what made her stow away. It was that point in his life, that Izal felt he could do well for another outside his crew in a way better than someone had done for him. He had hoped to make her life seem brighter for her, as one person did for him so long ago. Lady Delilah Laxen spent the next ten years aboard the ship under Izal's tutelage until the day came for Izal to grant one last issue as full Captain to his ship. Izal would remain on his ship as Vice Captain, over the ship and his crew, but the title of Full Captain would be handed to Delilah and the Great Aquarius would be seated in a position even higher than Izal had climbed. Three years, she has captained the Great Aquarius, and now the two are still bound to the ship and serving as one of the best vessels in service across the waters. Izal and Delilah had spent much of that time together, and Izal saw Delilah as a daughter in ways, and he saw her as a member of the crew, as a member of the family. He was happy leaving her to the business end of deals, it saved her from the bloody end of deals, and that made him content in his own way.

Weapons

Magic: Izal is rather skilled and naturally born to the use of primal magics relating to animals and the body within nature. He can influence himself with aspects and strengths of beasts, as well as speak to them, and even potentially shape-shift if the need ever arised. However shape-shifting is something he has ever only done once. His magic is inherent and given to him by his bloodline, albeit he has no idea why due to the lack of knowing a living relative who also had his magic. His magic seems to be a lost bloodline, one not found anywhere else and none in this waking world wield it save for him, and it perhaps may affect the path Izal takes in the future.. perhaps his magic may affect those around him in a way unforeseen by all but the gods.

Chirina Shuurga of Clan Tuul

(Tuulyn Shuurga Chirina)

Age:

19

Gender:
Female

Race:
Human

Job:

Main Gunnery Officer/ Tactician

Personality:

Rough, like the stormy sea, Chirina can be, at times, rather uncomfortable to be around. She drives herself and others to be as perfect as they can possibly be and doesn’t take no for an answer. Still, just the same, she has difficulties with people who think they are higher in standings than she is, no matter if they have the right of it or not.

Outside of her job, she can sometimes seem like she doesn’t care about things as she goes about things laissez-faire, but she certainly is far from being a girly girl, the opposite being true. However, she is starting to develop into a leader and seeing some of the error in her disrespectful ways, though she still has a good amount to go.

Chirina loves combat and battle. Gaining glory in battle is her highest purpose and she sees no bigger goal in life than that of glory and honour for her clan. That is why she can fall into a sort of state of bloodlust, a state of combat trance that can make her lose focus of the bigger battle, another thing she has to overcome, even if that bloodlust makes her terrifying to go against alone.

History

Chirina was born into a tribe of nomads, restless, always sailing the seas as the daughter of the chieftain, the Khaan. Her clan is a very old one, stemming from before the flooding when her clan lead her people on horseback roaming the steppes. Now, her people switched to boats, never staying on a single island for more than a year harvesting the resources to then move to another island using those resources instead. This kind of “island rotation” allows islands to ecologically recover before her tribe would revisit an island.

Growing up in such an environment, she learned everything about navigation and sailing from an early age, since in her smallish tribe, every member counted and so even children had to work with the group and learn to become less of a burden and more of a benefit to her tribe.

And such, when she reached “maturity”, meaning 14 for her tribe, she learned the art of combat. In her tribe’s nomadic ways, they came across many enemies, from orc raiding parties, to pirates, to monsters. But even her tribe did not shy away from raiding themselves, so, at the age of 15, Chirina participated in her first raid in which she killed her first humans, her quickness, bloodlust and developing magical ability earning herself the epithet “storm”, Shuurga, in the language of her people, honour and glory being a cornerstone of her people’s society.

After turning 18, she, together with her father, the Khaan, decided, it would be time for her to learn how to be a leader, since she, as the eldest child of the Khaan, was going to take over for her father as leader of the tribe.
They decided, it would be best for Chirina to gain experience leading somewhere else and so, she went to sign up for a mercenary crew that would be doing exactly what she was already doing, extinguishing pirates, though her first crew turned out to be a bunch of babbling, incompetent idiots, who managed to get themselves killed in the first encounter, herself being the only uninjured survivor steering the ship and the loot safely back to harbour, where she, having just turned 19 that day, signed up on another ship that had a much better track record, as far as she had heard, so… she hopes, they won’t suck as much as the last one….

Weapons

  • Her trusty Tanegashima matchlock musket, slightly enhanced in accuracy with a bayonet mount.
  • A slightly curved sabre, read Dao, for close range engagements.

Magic

  • Lightning Strike: Chirina can call a lightning strike down close to where she is aiming out of black clouds that form above. Very mana intensive ability.

Other:

As usual for her people, Chirina is rather short, at 5ft.
