A Place for Discussions

So, after discussing it with other members of staff, I decided to recreate a space where the members of the guild could speak about current events, pressing issues, or discussing anything intellectual or controversial really (within reason). I'm hoping this thread is not only entertaining and stimulating, but it provides a platform where people can learn and grow, or at least broaden their understanding of certain topics. However, seeing how the last thread turned out, there will be a few ground rules that I and the other mods will monitor.

Politically and intellectually speaking, are walrus really just sea cows and should we make sea ranches?

I for one support the legalization of walrus farming. I think we should legalize many industries regarding victimless crimes as well.

Certainly. Whether it be walrus farming or vice crime we need to reevaluate what we consider a crime worthy of persecution.

Take drugs, all estimates say that global drug use is up despite the trillions of dollars and thousands of lives lost in combating it. Just like sea ranching we should legalize and tax the drug industry and turn a net loss into either a net gain or neutral revenue endeavor depending on how it turns out.

I do not appreciate talk of farming walruses and lumping the mass slaughter of my kind into the victim-less crime category. I also resent being called a sea-cow.

We should build a sea wall to keep out those lazy walruses. They take fish from the hardworking seals.

@POOHEAD189 I'm disappointed you didn't call it "Poo's Poolitical Thread"

Indeed, if we can't make a profit from walrus farming due to walrus labour laws and walrus rights it only follows we prevent them from stealing fish from our hard working dolphins and orcas.

I can always switch it up.

Also Walruses are precious and need to be protected.

I decided to give the thread a small grace period to see if actual discussions occur. If not, I'll end the thread.

However, I would like to note for everyone in the thread breaking any of the above rules is not harming the thread, but harming themselves.

I'm not very sure about it, but... isn't thread hijacking, by the Moderation team's newest member, no less, a very bad example of what conducts the community should follow or not?

If you guys close a thread because it was causing problems, any attempts to recreate one like it get shut down, as per the rules so... why is it that you can do it and we not?

While I'd rather you PM me questions on that, I can answer here.

There is no reason we cannot have a discussion thread on a forum. Every forum has one. I am at a loss as to why you think I am taking liberties I shouldn't when at the top of the thread it said the mods discussed it. The mods closed the thread the first time for a lack of supervision and multiple personal attacks. With myself, and other mods now watching the thread, that will not happen again. They simply were not going to allow the same creator as the last political thread to do so again.
If it's the name you dislike, I can simply make it 'discussion thread.' I just saw both P's and thought 'why not' lol.

Renaming it would not do anything but cause more confusion. Call a duck for what it is – a duck.

For the record, I have no issues with the staff deciding to monitor a political discussion thread with themselves in charge of directing it. A lot of the problems with the thread in the past was that personal attacks and other such smug remarks got in the way of meaningful discussion. I still think the topic should remain closed, but if you guys think this is the best path for the thread, then that’s on you. Best of luck.

Well, I for one think this is a great idea. The last thread, as you said, lacked the proper supervision. I know it's in good hands with you at the helm.

Considering the infamous history of these types of threads here, regardless of “supervision”, I don’t think this is a good idea.

But whatever floats the boat I suppose.

While I appreciate the feedback, I'll say the grace period is over. Please post if you have something within topic to bring to the table.

I don't know if it's been too long to discuss this, but I think I saw it on the news a couple of days ago: North Korea suspends their nuclear program. Any thoughts on this? I personally think that, if they keep to this mind frame, it could go a long way to ease tensions between them and most of the world.

@Altered Tundra I cannot comprehend what is going on tbh. I do not think they will really unify ever, simply because the Un's really enjoy lording over North Korea. But talking is a starting point.
