You are stupid for assuming I don’t know another language.

They are stupid because they refused to use the tools available to them to even badly translate what they wanted to say. They intentionally put the phone away. They should’ve left it out and spoke or typed into a translation app. I would have helped them if they did that. They put forth no effort so I put forth no effort.

So, I'll just do Poohead a favor and literally repeat the "this thread is for discussion."

I know I was literally lambasted for making the point of "hey, maybe you should follow basic guidelines set." like I was the villain. Because -I- can never be right. But, yeah...maybe stop the ad-hominem stuff.

Also, who cares what someone else does for their own job? That isn't remotely relevant to politics...




And now the subject will magically drop, and that discourse can happen now.



Since I can't get real and/or civil political discourse online anymore. I got the occasional podcasts to fill the void. I still wonder how many people would be willing to have real discussions about politics? Face to face, or even voice to voice. More personal and human conversations that aren't sound bits like the news media. Podcasts are fantastic tools for politics and entertainment. But I digress.

My question if people wish to discuss it, is how do you consume politics in your life? And should politics matter to the average person as much as they do? Does it matter as much as people think it does? Is it just culture? Is culture heavily influenced by politics?

Considering this podcast is online, I think you clearly can get the discourse you are talking about.

If you are talking about dicourse that specifically invloves you, then you have a short memory. Ive seen you disucuss topics in a civil manner, it doesnt happen often, but you are capable of it.

Also when you say 'online' thats a very broad net, because if you are only attempting debate on an RPG forum and discord where you have bad blood with the people you keep trying to engage, then your problem is quite obvious.

@POOHEAD189 yeah I'm sure discussing pseudo-intellectual figures from some obscure youtube community is fun, but I think discussing real issues like language in large continent-spanning countries with a diverse set of people with even more diverse languages is far more interesting. If discussing dumb youtube podcasts is all this thread for you might as well rename the thread, to be honest. As far as I've seen the worst insult I've seen is two people calling each other stupid, and frankly I'm not insulted and I'd have a hard time believing Burning Kitty was insulted that I called her stupid.

I don't think we need moderators to be police officers who moderate things unless it's reported -- that's how it goes in the discord as well, so unless anyone involved reported either side, I don't really see a need to stop discussing this. Especially since the alternative seems to be talking about (moronic) internet persona's and taking those same persona's seriously.

Find someone that understands their language or tell them that person is not available and you don't understand -- far more courteous and respectable than going 'lol no' and literally walking away leaving this person there wondering what the fuck just happened. Maybe she assumed you speak the language, because it may very well be a common language (assuming it was Spanish (you said no habla, right?) I don't even have to assume it's a common language, because it is, even in the USA) and after you said no habla, she'd try to explain herself in another language.

You wouldn't know, because you refused to properly do your job, and instead walked away on some misguided principle of 'muh language.' Wanting her to speak English is completely understandable but being rude about it is just beyond words, especially if your entire job literally revolves around helping people.

Do you walk away from tourists as well?

As soon as the company starts paying for classes to learn other languages and paying for the time to attend then and only then. As it stands at work and home I only speak my language.

Just because a customer doesn't English good doesn't mean they deserve any less service than any other person who English better.

It's honestly ridiculous that you feel entitled that customers have to put in "effort" for you to assist them. They're trying to get assistance from you but according to the story you cut them off before they even got an attempt to put in whatever necessary "effort" you require from them for you to do your job.

The point of customer service is to assist the customer and help them with whatever it is they need help with. You're just bad at your job, honestly. Treating a customer like that on such a basis is simply inexcusable.

You live in America, the country literally founded by immigrants. You're going to encounter people who don't speak English very well for a long time. If you can't handle that, then there won't be very many suitable jobs, if any at all, for you.

Aye, ive done it, some customers are older, foreign, and many other things.

IT IS YOUR JOB TO ADAPT TO THEM, sometimes you cannot help them, and struggle to understand but that is where you call over someone else who may be twin language or better able to help.

theres always a way round, you just got to think on your feet and find it.

(this was highlighted as this is the main point of any customer service)

Well, I suppose in Kitties defense, she has every right to ignore them for this and look like a jackass in response. I suppose I can understand the frustration living in a country where Turkish, Morrocan and Arab as well as Afro-American slang has taken over as the 'voertaal' in a way.

I just think responding like that makes you look like a massive cunt. But there's no laws against being a cunt. I don't think Kitty will change my mind (I am sure of that) but I don't think I'll change hers either.

ive dealt with impossible custumers, and yeah there frustrating but this is where thinking on feet and adaptions come in.
