Finally, the time had come. All of Gun Burst Online's eyes were tethered to the live transmission of the newest edition of the Bullet Break tournament. The reason for such an uproar was simple to understand: Even though Bullet Break isn't a professional level competition, many aspiring players treat it as a gateway to pro status. Having the chance to either be part of it or study the strategies of any future competition was more than worth it for most. The rest of the spectators simply enjoyed the chance to see a heated match taking place.
The map chosen for this edition of the tournament was a fan favorite. A massive, deserted industrial zone, full of thrilling environmental features, known as The Works.
The combat area is roughly circular, with a four kilometers radius, whose boundaries are delimited by a rust-colored desert that extends as far as the eye can see. Anyone that steps out of the combat zone's boundaries, willingly or not, is eliminated from the match.
The map is divided into a number of distinct sectors, separated by roads, tunnels and a few supporting areas, like parking lots and derelict buildings. Beginning from the upper left, the main sectors are, in a clockwise direction, with the last one sitting at the center:
- The Scrap Yard
- The Chemical Plant
- The Mill
- The Assembly
- The Control Station
While almost everything is fair in the competition, a few rules affect all participating players:
- A team will be eliminated from the tournament once its last member is killed or is more than half of its players agree to forfeit the match.
- Every team can choose to begin the match anywhere within the combat as long as it's an open area.
- To discourage camping based strategies, the match has a time limit of three hours. If there's no winner before then, the team with the highest kill count will be results of the tournament will be based on each team's kill count.
- The usage of any vehicle or item found within the combat zone is permitted. However, any form of outside help will result in an immediate elimination of the team in question, as well as other applicable sanctions.
Now that all of the rules have been laid bare, and all of the teams set, it's time to let the battle begin. Bullet Break, shoot out!
