So we're just... instantly in zombie apocalypse mode then? Not gonna lie, that wasn't quite what I signed up for. *shrug*

Yolo Of Londor and myself are betting on it being false or being a fakeout of some kind. Doesn't seem real.

I mean, the player was seeing reports of the attacks and stuff in real life. Kinda hard to fake that. Though, realistically, I give the game mere hours before it becomes 90-95% deserted. Most people are going to be too preoccupied finding remote places to hole up and survive the apparent zombie outbreak to give a crap about logging into a game.

Tech levels in the world make TV and news unreliable. Everything could be falsified and we'd hardly be able to tell at a glance. I never bet on the GM providing all of the information or telling the truth.

If this were a tabletop game I would totally agree with you. But since it's not... well, I dunno.

Sanctuary isn't just a game though. It's everything in this world.

Think about what it was like in Ready Player One; everyone was logged into the Oasis pretty much 24/7, they went to school there, they hung out there, they spent all their time there because the real world was shit and it had everything a person needed and it was free. I'm not saying that a zombie outbreak wouldn't change things but I wouldn't be surprised if people just locked their doors and then retreated back to the one place that's most familiar to them.

Add in the fact that the cure is supposedly inside Sanctuary and you'll have a lot of people who'll keep playing to try and find it.

If this were a tabletop game I would totally agree with you. But since it's not... well, I dunno.

I think what he means is that in this futuristic world video footage can be falsified with near photo realistic quality pretty easily. Until people see a zombie in real life they may just pass off the news reports as promotional material for the new event.

I'm not going to change what I have previous written, but from this point forward everyone infected in Sanctuary is not infected in real life.

That woulda been an awesome reveal. Suddenly everyone realizes that the wool has been pulled over our eyes! And then... Suddenly a PC dies and gets a PM saying that his IRL character isn't infected. Either way, that's good. Will keep things into the genre that was signed up for.

@Parzivol I said they won't be attacking, I didn't say the physical body wasn't affected at all.

Thank you, really. I truly appreciate you doing that.

The inverse would have made for a brilliantly horrifying reveal as well. Imagine this virus affecting the game for some weeks or even months, our characters have been killing infected avatars with no hesitation. Why would they? They're just avatars and there's been no news or indication that this is affecting anything outside of Sanctuary. If the virus is preventing them from logging off or something then killing them is the one sure-fire way to forcibly log them off, right? Except, oops, it gets revealed that killing all those infected avatars was in fact killing or indirectly causing the the deaths of their players in the real world! Now suddenly the main characters are understandably horrified with themselves, and second guessing themselves out of fear of accidentally killing more human players. In one fell swoop the stakes just got about a hundred times bigger and more real.

Huh, well... see my above paragraph for my personal speculations on what you mean by that.

@Double ever see the show Reverie?

Infected avatar death will not kill the physical body.

There is a reason why the fifth key is a person.

Attention @King Cosmos@AnneLynch@MissCapnCrunch@CaptainSully@Parzivol@Double a Software Update for Sanctuary has been released.

Every avatar has been given a new artifact it is the Sanctuary Grimoire, a 10 page spell book. If your character has power artifacts like healing or force field generation they must be spells. The more powerful the spell the more pages it takes in the book. Also all spells have a cool down and the more powerful the spell the longer the cool down.

If an avatar gets a new spell book the avatar looses the Sanctuary Grimoire, spells automatically transfer over.

Another post will come later listing page requirements for all spells.

For those who may not have seen yet, Burning Kitty and I have added new characters to the RP who will appear later on.

You can blame me for the reforms to the way spells work.

@King Cosmos@Burning Kitty

I actually like how spells work now, though I've got questions regarding Necromancy. What's the three minute cool down applied to? The effect itself is entirely passive. A death occurs then Yolo touches the resulting orb and a skeleton (modified with the crown to be a spirit) appears. Does this mean he can only touch one orb every three minutes?

Necromancy can have 3 skeletons at a time.
Once all 3 skeletons are acquired there is a 3 minute cool down.
At which point no more skeletons can be acquired until at least one is destroyed.
Everytime you add a skeleton that fills up the allotment of 3 it activates the cool down.

Do the Shouts from the Amulet of Kings count as Spells?

When you say the Amulet gives you access to Shouts, do you mean that you have the still find the Shouts separately or do the Shouts come with the Amulet?

If its the latter then I think abilities granted by items don't counts as spells, i.e. they wouldn't need to go in the spellbook but would need to have cool downs or some other cost to be balanced.

If its the former then I'd say that Artefact probably needs some reworking. I don't like the idea of a set of spells only being accessible if you have a certain Artefact since the Shouts should already be Artefacts themselves and with the spellbook there is already a restriction on how many you can have at once. Honestly, being able to turn into an avatar of Akatosh is probably strong enough for a rare Artefact since it is at least equivalent if not stronger than the Ultraman Artefact from the book.

Maybe change the Amulet to just have an extremely long cool down instead of breaking and remove the part about needing it to use Shouts?

Going to push out a post this afternoon. For the sake of character interaction Yolo is going to receive one of the invites unless the idea is opposed in some way.
