Personality: When it comes to his personality, Sami is extremely unapologetic and brusque. After years of hiding who he was from his friends and family, he finds it truly liberating now to be himself in every way possible. This brings out a rather exuberant disposition in the young man, who finds himself at ease talking to anyone in any tone he so desires. Around those who he respects (Or are giving him a paycheck), he'll curb his enthusiasm a bit, but sass and a rather biting wit always comes out sooner or later. Many have found his laid-back and fun-loving nature infectious, so Sami was never short of friends in school or work. However, in part thanks to his treatment at home, it's rare for him to really let anyone get close. Pals for fun and flirting with strangers is all well and good, but a real relationship is something that frightens him quite a bit.
Nonetheless, Sami will still treat his friends as good as they treat him. Although coming across as blunt most the time, one doesn't have to know him for very long to understand that it's just the way he talks. If he doesn't like someone, or someone does something to piss him off, they'll know about it extremely quickly. Although good at blending in with his surroundings and keeping his cool out on the field, once all that comes away, it doesn't take much to ignite his temper.

Why did you want to become an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.?: Originally, Sami had been interested in joining the army like his Uncle. The man always made it seem so glorious and respected. Following his vacation from the closet however, he was turned off the idea by several others. Not just his father's reaction to it, but many others that he met in his life. Often times when voicing his desire to join the armed forces amongst those he knew him, he was met with hesitance and fear. Too many people warned of the prejudice he'd face there, despite further encouragement from Uncle James. However, following the end of his security career, James approached him once again with a proposition. Not the army, but something a bit more... specialised. Once he learnt about SHIELD, Sami's interest was piqued. Am institution willing to work with radioactive rage monsters and Godly aliens surely wouldn't have a problem with a gay guy. Besides, the subtle art of infiltration seemed a lot more up his alley than wandering around in a hot desert for months.
General History: Sami was the first of three children born to Esme, the elder sister of Colonel James Rhodes, and her husband Solomon, a contractor from Sierra Leone. From what he can remember, Sami had a fairly standard childhood between fighting with his younger brother and sister, going on road trips with his family and being cheered on in various sports he competed in. The most exciting thing in his life for a while was that his Uncle and Godfather was best friends with billionaire Tony Stark, a fact that seemed so out of place in his typical suburban life. Sadly, as it often tends to do, things changed as he approached puberty.
Even before the tender age of 12, Sami had figured he wasn't like the other boys in his class, who always teased the girls they like by pulling on their hair or shyly offering them dandelions pulled from the school field. He had always found himself looking at the boys instead, and wondering what would happen if he offered them flowers on the playground. Entering middle school, Sami's confusion became clarity as he witnessed older students in solid relationships. Many heterosexual of course, but some... some were like him. Ecstatic to see two boys holding hands and kissing down the corridors, Sami didn't take long to come out to his parents. Esme wasn't fazed in the slightest, knowing she would love her son no matter what. Solomon, on the other hand, surprised them all by revealing a very ugly side to himself. The man exploded, reaching for whatever was closest at hand to throw at his eldest son. It happened to be a lamp, and Sami was lucky to only receive a glancing blow from it.
After managing to wrestle Solomon from the house, Esme returned to find Sami already in his bedroom, packing his bags. Though part of her yearned to stop him and tell him everything would be alright, the part that still loved her husband stopped her. She didn't want a divorce, not with three young kids to look after. Instead, she phoned her brother, hoping he could do something to help. Perhaps calm her husband down, or even convince both Solomon and Sami that this was just a phase and nobody needed to hate one another. Instead, James did one better and took Sami into his own home. Finding the swollen bruise on his nephew's face was more than enough to convince him that this was no longer a safe place for the boy, no matter what was said.
Life somewhat improved for Sami from here, though his personality underwent drastic changes. Optimism was replaced with cynicism, and vicious cycles of homesickness, guilt and fury left him with some prominent anger issues. Encouraged by his uncle, Sami signed up for Judo, both hoping it would held work off some of his aggression. Not only did it do that, but it sparked a love for the sport that he continued doing it well into college, even working it into MMA.
Although undoubtedly kind of his uncle, James wasn't able to look after Sami as much as he needed because of his work. Therefore after pulling some strings and convincing Sami's mother to put some money towards it, he was sent to a boarding school for most of the year. The school itself wasn't so bad. It was in an extremely nice environment, and any bullying was met with swift punishment unlike the public schools he was used to. He met, dated, and eventually broke up with his very first boyfriend, but after the rejection from his father, even the break-up held some bitter-sweetness to it simply for passing that ever important milestone in dating. On top of his interest in martial arts, Sami also joined the football team, developing the talent of finding weak spots in the other team's defence and exploiting it any way he could without breaking the rules (Though he did that too, sometimes.) It was this that paved the way for a scholarship to a fairly decent college to do a masters degree in political sciences, provided he played for the team. That worked for about two and a half years until an illegal sliding tackle took both of his knees out. (Technically he was breaking the rules too, though he'd never admit it.) By the time his injuries had healed the season was over and he was left with weakness in both joints. Now unable to play for his scholarship, Sami took up a part-time job as a fry-cook to help with the fees for the rest of his degree. It was here he discovered his enjoyment and talent for cooking, though was eventually let go for "experimenting" with the burgers. (Some tasteless hick didn't like mango sauce on his chicken stack.)
Graduation swiftly followed, and after a few months of drifting between small-time cooking jobs, Sami finally landed himself a job at a private security firm. It was a lucrative, high-risk and highly sought after business, but with his athletic and martial art achievements behind him, along with a degree and languages that could come in handy, Sami fit in pretty well with the group and was soon rising through the ranks. At one point they were hired to protect a royal from Europe, though he'd be sued and imprisoned if he said who, where, when, and what they were up to.
After a few years Sami left the company, glad to have had the experience, but disliking all the red tape. What was the point on going on such amazing journey's and jobs if you couldn't talk about it after work over drinks?
