Considering the state of disregard of our little community in the past several months, it seems like it's safe to assume that this project holds no interest anymore for those higher up the ladder, or that for whatever reason Mahz won't ever again come to give even the least bit of maintenance to this place.

So, the next time we face any IT related crisis, may as well be the last. At least I don't think we will ever get any form of maintenance in the future if the site goes down again.

With that in mind, what are you plans to the future if that ever happens? Do you back up any important resources, cherished ideas, and contacts? Would you give up on the hobby? Move to another site?

When the guild finally dies and doesn't come back anymore, what will you do?

If this forum were to ever crash and burn though (which has happened to me in the past) I would try to back up anything that I felt was important. Then over time, I would probably wonder why I felt the posts and such were even worth saving, and will likely leave them behind.

I remember the memories, the struggles, and the satisfaction they brought me when I was actually writing. But for some reason, reading the posts themselves bring me less joy as the RP fades into a memory and my ability to write improves. The memories are the real hallmark of wonderful RPs, and the text itself becomes less important over time. I still remember my first RP. It spent many years on my computer, but the words we wrote together couldn't live up to their memory. I no longer possess it.

Any contacts I wish to keep are nestled away in discord somewhere. If the forum falls, I'll still have my connections.

Mahz has shown up to fix problems in the past. Even though the silly vacation banner has been up forever, the forum crashes have since stopped. And if he doesn't, it will affect me very little.

Nice fear mongering, BTW.

although I think that in principle this is a good question to ask....

you also seem to lack a lot of historical information that has proven that despite mahz being on a vacation for 9 months out of the years 12, whenever something serious happens he will generally be back

we could argue about the timeliness at which that happens but in the end the situation tends to get resolved. so this forum won't ''crash and burn'' as much as it sputters for a week or three before someone can be arsed to get mahz on the case, and in the worst case scenario, he takes a long time to fix it

it doesn't 'not get fixed' however

@RWBY Spectre Actually concerning the last big issue when the forum went down about a year ago, not fully but we were having the hardest time accessing anything, I did go and make a back up site. Now, when anyone in any of my Rps post they have to post on it as well, so we have the last year worth of posts over there already. We house our characters there, plan out new Rps, and do other things as well - it has become our back up location so that if the forum hiccups again or heaven forbid crashes fully - we personally have lost nothing. All Cs's, IC, and such are there. I keep a back up of all my RP notes in my Gm journals. My Rps are covered should the forum go through Guild Fall 2.0. I'm not worried - will be upset since I prefer the set up here but not worried.

Well...there was the fall of Old Guild...

It's the reason I now have anything I care for in a Google Doc.

Keep the "other sites" bit to private channels, and I'm cool with this discussion for now.

If it helps it's a discussion staff has had, and continues to have.

@Hero IIRC that was caused by a late payment and a very strict server host, not a maintenance failure

Guildfall boiled down to AdSense.

The last hiccup was a payment issue due to card mix-up.

Also if it's relevant I got a message from Mahz yesterday.

So it's not like we can't contact him.

I've had sites go down on me well before I found RPG. So, I got into the habit of copying all my rps into Word. And writing my posts there as well so there's less chance I'll lose them if the internet decides to be a butt or my computer suddenly crashes. It is also conveniently equipped with spellcheck.

But since guildfall, I've simply added on the precaution of asking my partners if they'd be willing to share contact info with me, and have my own rp exclusive email, as well as discord and skype, so we can pick up where things left off if the worst comes to pass. But I'm not overly concerned about it, otherwise.

When the guild finally dies and doesn't come back anymore, what will you do?

Move on to the next site, just like I've done every time a site diminishes or my interest dries up. It's not a soul-crushing thing. RPG is just another site.

All my important CSs are in my google drive, on top of things like psych profiles that don't even exist on this place. The number of sites I've left, had die, and even helped destroy ... I'd be pissed but the world keeps turning.

Guild isn't dying anytime soon. When it comes down to the basics it's just another message board and the people here post up their replies and responses. All the extras are nice, and they do help to make it a better environment, but it's the community that does make a big difference. That's where I believe we have a strong advantage over many other sites. Mahz may not be here 100% of the time, but he shouldn't have to be if you're here to simply roleplay with your friends.

As it stands, the best thing for any writing works is to always back it up. Google Docs is a great place, and its free. I think no matter what site or community you become a part of you should always learn to back up your works.

If the guild goes, I move on. Most of the shit I consider worth something is baked into my lore hosted offline anyways.

Life will continue.

Me too! :) Yep, I'd think it goes without saying that for online stuff, it should be up to the user to backup anything they considering "worthy".
