Eryn Montero

Pureplain City || Kalmia’s Lab || Mid-Morning

Oaken’s recovery had Eryn more delighted than dismayed. The battle could now go either way, and Eryn was determined to see it go hers.

While the Skorupi was—by virtue of closing its eyes—able to stave off its fear of fire, it also lost its valuable sense of sight and was completely reliant on its trainer shouting orders above the fray of battle. While this probably wouldn’t be a problem in day-to-day life, there were two main points: one being that neither the Skorupi nor its trainer were used to this way of battle, and the other being that battling wasn’t exactly a quiet thing where focusing on two separate sounds—a trainer and a opponent—was an easy task.

“Dei, throw some Growls in and throw it off!” Eryn called, grinning. The combined forces of growls, burns, and scratches ought to be enough to sway the Skorupi back into fear. At the very least, the growls would persuade it to flee before Dei could strike, seeing as Dei was much more real and near than its trainer.

On the field, Dei answered her with a growl before rounding to another side and closing in for a scratch and tail smack.

'Y-yeah! Good battle! I’ll battle you again when I am better!' Simon replied to Skylar, giving a bit of a hesitant grin. … Then, he looked towards Skylar with an expression of utmost confidence. 'You will grow to become an exceptional trainer, Skylar. I know it! Count on it!' he said, in a way he probably wouldn’t to anyone else. Then, though, there was the matter about his Barboach’s name…

'Um… but, hm…' Simon looked hesitant, looking down at #8t’s fainted form, considering a reply, but before then came Alice’s words. He nodded somewhat happily to her words about becing creative and such, but then looked utterly shocked, his eyes wide in panic, when she told him he wasn’t caring for his friends. 'W-w-w-what? I- I care! I take care of them! They’re my precious friends! I-' In confusion, he looked down on Simon #8 again.

'Because I want nothing but the best for them, I have to give them all the best name, that is, “Simon”. But, if they’re just all called “Simon”, then it becomes hard to keep track of them, and… no… No, wait!' Suddenly, his eyes lit up, a fire burning within Simon’s eyes. 'I know where I’ve gone wrong! I must fix it immediately!'

Saying so, he took out five Pokéballs, and let them down onto the ground, crashing forth his whole team…

He faced his damaged Barboach, who was damaged but slowly drifting awake, looking at him in slight confusion…

'Barbo…?'

Simon looked otherworldly determined.

'I gave you the best name, but then started referring to you as the number in which you were given the names. That was wrong, it removed the significance of the name. THEREFORE! FROM NOW ON! Barboach, your name… is SIMON!' Simon called out decisively. Barboach Simon looked confused.

'Hoppip, your name is SIMON!' 'Hoppip!' Hoppip Simon looked super happy.
'Magikarp, your name is SIMON!' 'Magikarp, karp, karp,' Magikarp Simon didn’t seem to process this at all and was Splashing on the ground (Magikarp’s is apparently an exception to that water-Pokémon are granted water-bubbles).
'Burmy, you will be called… SIMON!' 'Burmy…?' Burmy Simon looked confused.
'Cubone, you are SIMON!' 'Cubone.' Cubone Simon looked indifferent. “Okay”.
'And Ralts… your name is SIMON!' 'Raaaaalts~' Ralts Simon looked totally content.

'TOGETHER, WE WILL BE THE VERY BEST, LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS! TEAM SIMON!' Simon spun and pointed at the horizon, and for that brief moment it was as if a sun shone from behind them in all their glory. 'EMBARK!!'

… And so, Simon dashed off, Barboach Simon in hand, Hoppip Simon flying along with him, Ralts Simon jumping up on Cubone Simon who carried it along, Burmy Simon hurrying after and Magikarp Simon bouncing after, their team of Simon’s embarking on their Pokémon journey…

Meanwhile.

Vivia blinked a bit at Alice’s words, but avoided her hand for the moment. She smiled happily, though.

'Oh, no, I’m not the one who’s going to beat myself up, don’t worry. Just, don’t touch me right now. Any moment now, I’m gonna-' … And then a zap of lightning descended from seemingly nowhere and shot through Vivia, who’s eyes shot open and she jolted from the sudden shock of electricity. 'JJJjjjjjjjjjjjkh…!-'

A slightly smoking Vivia then smiled and took Alice’s hand, maybe giving her the slightest of a static zap upon their skin meeting. 'Th-thank you. Hopefully we get scary before the shocks of punishment for losing makes my skin-colour change, ha-ha…'

'Ro-to-to-to-to-tom~' The source of the little zap, Rotom, came back floating down behind Vivia, peeking over her shoulder and grinning at Alice. Venonat, who was still outside the Pokéball, proceeded with staring harshly at Rotom the moment the little ghost appeared.

'Well done, you two!' Kalmia said happily as they returned. 'Oh, yeah, we can get some baths and towels to help get them clean~' she said and hurried back in, because as her role determines she probably has a boatload of things to keep Pokémon healthy. Meanwhile, Jacques smirked to her words.

'Fu-fu. A lot of people are coming for me. I look forward to seeing how you distinguish yourself,' Jacques replied, and then… '… And yes, he can come out,' he said, taking a step so that he could return Rhyperior to his Pokéball when Kalmia opened the door, and then just dropped the Pokéball where he held it. It crashed into the ground and Rhyperior came out.

'RRRRHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY... perior!' … Rhyperior was out again, looking totally happy to be outside.

Kalmia eventually came out, with a basin of water and towels and whatnot to clean Pokémon. They were free to use those as they pleased, and then…

'And this, is for you!' Kalmia said, before handing over a couple items…

Skylar obtained 5 Pokéballs!!

Alice obtained 5 Pokéballs!!

'Good job out there. Now, Isson’s yours to explore. If you have any questions, I’ll always be but a call away! … Just, take it easy on the calling at night, okay? Haha.'

… And that was potentially it, unless there was more they wanted.

They’re currently in Pureplain City.

Connected areas:
Route 1. Easier path, just follow the bigger road.
Route 2. Walk through quite an amount of suburbs until you eventually reach the path.
Sea. There’s water, alright. Can take you anywhere you want to go, assuming you have means to traverse it.

So, Dawkin stepped up to face Alec!

Given that Atlas is immune to Poison, that left Tackle as Koffing’s only barely effective attack. However, as notable, Koffing is immune to ground-type moves with Levitate. That said, Atlas could just Headbutt or Metal Claw as well when Koffing came close, so we’ll assume he did that. Because of the Smokescreen this battle took a bit of time, but given considerable immunity to Tackle Atlas took down Koffing on his own, no problem. He took around 13% damage.

Atlas grew to Level 12!

Then there was Wooper against a Nincada. … It was easy work, the Nincada only getting in one weak Leech Seed before Wooper had disposed of it with two Water Guns after the initial Sand Attack and Mud Sport had cancelled each other out somewhat.

Wooper grew to Level 10!

Dawkin is victorious! Dawkin gained 158P!

‘Aha! I fell for your trap! … Wait, how does this work?’

So, they managed to fight off the Ninja Boy, and soon enough headed off again. Soon enough, they were approaching their destination. And here… Amelia felt a presence that was flaring out of control.

Del fainted, but he had bound up Lilligiant’s limbs tightly, slowing the giant plant up considerably. That’s when Claire instead sent out Zeal. Archie clapped excitedly.

‘There it is! Ooh, fire!’ Archie positively brimmed. ‘Lilligiant, Sleep Powder! Just because you’re slower doesn’t mean the strategy’s changed!’ he commanded, but then… Claire commanded for a Taunt. ‘… Eh. Taunt?’ he looked rather stunned at this development. Indeed, the huge plant was now slower than the Monferno, and the monkey got off his Taunt. Archie started laughing fairly hysterically.

‘Hahahahahaha! Taunt? Oooh, that’s terrible! Lilligiant’s only actual attacks are Absorb and Mega Drain! Hahahahaha!’

… And so, the irked Lilligiant could only Mega Drain at Zeal. However, despite being Not Very Effective, the Mega Drain still stung a notable bit of damage, nothing that could be just dismissed. HOWEVER… while the giant plant was pretty strong, this harsh sunlight blazed onto Zeal, imbuing heat and power, enhancing his fire…

'Why, of course you’d do that…' Oaken muttered almost accusingly at Eryn’s plan. 'Skorupi, we’re going offensive! You only need to hit once or twice! Forward, a bit to the right! Knock-Off!'

'Skorupi…!' Skorupi dove forward, trying to follow the sound of Dei’s Growl, which reduced its attack but still left him wanting to attack.

'More right!' Oaken resupplied when Skorupi was somewhat off mark. by some sheer luck, they managed to trade another set of blows, Dei hit somewhat by Knock-Off while Skorupi was scratched and burned, forcing Skorupi to run off again in a slight panic while Dei got to recover from the blow he took.

'Stay! Turn!' Oaken commanded, and Skorupi somehow got it, turning about to face Dei again, breathing heavily. Both Pokémon were now significantly damaged, not much left.

'Just… one more hit. We’ll do it again,' Oaken commanded, and Skorupi made ready, for what could be the final clash of the match. Would Eryn give any particular commands for this?

Eryn Montero

Pureplain City || Kalmia’s Lab || Mid-Morning

“Hang in there, Dei!” Eryn shouted, racking her brain. From the looks of it, the next blow could be the deciding one, so she needed to ensure that Dei got his in before the Skorupi. That the Skorupi could properly sort through both its trainer’s instructions and the sounds on the battlefield itself was impressive, but it also meant that distractionary techniques weren’t a good option. So, instead of trying to distract the Skorupi, Eryn figured that she needed to pull something unexpected out instead.

“Dei, why don’t we try from above?” Eryn called. “Tail first.”

Dei turned to look at her, pausing as he considered this, then nodded. “Char.”

Then, stepping forwards, Dei charged head on, Eryn watching as he launched himself up just before he reached the Skorupi.

Alice

Alice smiled softly at Vivia, before turning to her Rotom. Putting on a Stern face she spoke slowly.

"You should be nicer! Listen! Maybe she wouldn't feel like she needs to just super kick you if you weren't being a brat." she stuck out her tongue, smiling a little. "Would you like to join us when we leave, Vivia? I don't know what we'll do, there's just so many possibilities..."

She held up a finger, distracted, before....[running off to do the events of previous post]

"Thanks, Professor," she said distractedly, leaning in to give an awkward hug to Rhyperior. "There's so much I want to see and do! I'll see you again, Rhyperior! Professor!" She cleaned up Cici carefully, smiling, before handing back the towel with a soft 'thank you'.

With that she returned to Vivia and Skylar, thinking. "I want to stop by the Pokecenter, maybe there'll be a good rumor or something. There's supposed to be the occasional Shuppet floating around town at night, that could be neat. But I do really want to find a Beldum, which is up in My Edge.... But there's also the Gym nearby off Route 1 the Professor mentioned.... Skylar, what do you think?"

Skylar took Seabreeze and placed him on the ground in front of him, taking one of the towels (after missing the grab a few times) that were brought out and holding it up in front of the bird. "Mind giving me a Water Gun, buddy?" Seabreeze complied, and the towel was wettened with water, allowing Skylar to clean off his bird with a cool, wet towel. The Wingull cooed in approval of the method of cleaning, and it made Skylar smile. Seabreeze was such an adorable fella.

He turned to Alice, still holding Seabreeze and wiping him over. "I like the Pokecenter idea. It'd allow us to ask around and see what we can do here before we leave for a route. I've heard there are Pidgeys around here, and while a Pidgey sounds nice for my optimal team, I'd prefer to ask around and try to find a Skarmory or Swablu first. I mean, maybe there are rarer Flying-Types around in the city, I don't know, but I would like to try and ask a Pokecen-... actually."

Skylar turned to the professor, a glint of excitement in his cloudy eyes. "Professor! Are Pidgeys the only flying type in Pureplain City, or are there rarer ones about?"

"Haha, yes!" Del did good, even if he was out for the count. The Liligant was sufficiently slowed, and it seemed Monferno was certainly faster. The monkey got of a taunt, meaning the Liligant could no longer use its status moves...which only left Mega Drain, and it looked like it hurt, too. Well, she and Zeal would just have to tough it out. That thing may have been huge, but something something the harder they fall.

"Zeal! We'll finish this fast! Hit 'em hard with Ember!" Zeal, seeming just as eager for battle as Claire was zoomed forwards, the smaller pokemon deciding it'd be better to close the distance with the large plant. With hopefully superior agility, Zeal leaped, gathering fire in his mouth, before unleashing a powered up ember onto the Liligant.

Dawkin Trustram

Dawkin was pleased to see that he won the battles without much difficulty. "Good battle kid, see you around." Actually he probably wouldn't given that the kid in question appeared to favor hiding but... Whatever. The two of them moved along quickly, finding the remains of some sort of ancient looking structure. More importantly, there appeared to be a group of tents set up, mostly abandoned save for a group of Goletts and two people on the losing end of a battle. To Dawkin's astonishment the duo simply started talking about the situation as it happened rather than trying to do anything about it, which was just as surprising as the Goletts seemingly kidnapping them. Were they idiots or was he missing something? "I've got to help them." Dawkin said immediately and began moving towards the cluster of Goletts. Water gun would be his best bet for taking them down. Given Amelia didn't offer another course of action he would release Atlas, Wooper, and Tyrunt; with the intent of Wooper harassing them with water guns with Atlas and Tyrunt protecting her.

'Ro-to-to-to-tom~' Rotom just made a taunting noise towards Alice and didn’t appear to be intending to make any sort of motion towards actually working to better its activities.

'Ha, ha, ha… I wish…' Vivia tilted her head a little, a resigned smile on her lips. Then, Alice suggested she left to adventure with them, and her eyes widened in realization at the invitation. 'Wa, huh? You’d wish to travel with me…?' She needed to process that for a bit. Then, she straightened up, put on a serious face more in line with her character image, and adjusted her glasses. 'Heh! Alright, then. For the time being, I would be happy to accompany you. I am rather inexperienced myself, but we can help each other out. It would be my pleasure,' she said, a slight smile appearing on her lips that she was trying to restrain.

Rhyperior was more than happy to be hugged. Now, the big rock was way too wide for Alice to actually hug around, and his own arms were a bit limited in ability to hug back due to same wideness, but…

'Rhy!' the Rhyperior called out happily and gave her a decently careful pat on the head with one of the huge rock-arms. 'Rhyperior!' He then waved to her when she said they’d see each other again, and looked quite blissfully happy. Jacques was at the side and looked on with a smirk.

Kalmia smiled at Skylar’s question, but shook her head. 'Nope. I’m afraid that in Pureplain City, you’re only going to find the pure and plain, at the very least when it comes to Flying-types.'

Anyways, that’ll be that. Though, at the side…

@Dusksong

Dei leapt before arriving at Skorupi, descending down on the scorpion from above.

'From above!' Oaken tried, and Skorupi tried.

'Skorupi…!' it announced, thrusting above it with a claw, trying to Knock-Off… but did it a slight bit too early. Missing, Skorupi got confused enough to open its eyes to see what was going on… right in time to see a Charmander falling down on it, burning tail first!

'SK-SKOO-!' Skorupi gave a small shout of panic before Dei smacked down into it, in whatever way he intended. The impact was enough to push Skorupi over the edge, and it slumped aside and rolled onto its back, fainted. The battle was over.

Eryn was victorious! Eryn gained 1000 P for winning!

Dei grew to Level 6!

'… Hmpf.' Oaken turned his head in slight regret to the right, then lifted his Pokéball to recall Skorupi. '… You followed my orders well towards the end. I suppose I cannot expect you to be perfect from the get-go. Well fought, I suppose.' He recalled Skorupi, and then turned to Eryn.

'You managed to turn a sure loss into a decisive win. Well done, I suppose. If I’m ever pushed into a corner… I’ll try to keep you in mind. I’ll see you in the Pokémon League.' … Oaken did not intend to stick along longer than that. He gave a nod to Jacques, who gave a nod back, before intending on walking off.

'I’ll waste some time at the Trainer’s School,' Oaken said, passing behind Rodger’s back.

'Got it! I’ll find you there when I’m done!' Rodger said, before turning back to the battle he was focused on.

Now, Eryn can stop Oaken before he walks off too far, if she wants to. After her victory, and if she hadn’t engaged in conversation or so, Eryn would be approached by Professor Kalmia.

'You two did great, Eryn, Dei! Well done! Now, I just need to give you these, and then you’re ready to get going!'

Eryn obtained 5 Pokéballs!!

'If you have any questions, I’m always just a call away!' So Kalmia said.

Now she can talk to the others, or whatever she wishes. Eryn, Skylar and Alice are currently in Pureplain City.

With his flames boosted by the flaring sun, Zeal fired off a magnificently huge, flaring Ember at the Taunted, String Shotted Lilligiant that could not get out of the way in time! The fireball impacted, and Lilligiant gave out a cry as the flames did their damage, leaving leaves seared and slightly burning… but still, Lilligiant was tough enough to weather at least one of those fireballs. A heavily damaged Lilligiant still employed Mega Drain once again, draining power from Zeal through some unnatural grass-typed power through the air that who knows how it actually works. … Still, with all likelihood Zeal just fired another Ember…

‘LILLIGAAAAAAAAAAANT!’

… And the humongous plant fell burned, the huge form falling over with a soft crunch as it impacted the wooden platform beneath it, the signs of burning String Shot strings still binding around it.

‘Hahahaha! String Shot plus Taunt. That’d do it. Good job! You took down my wall!’ Archie called out to Claire, smiling oh, so happily as he returned Lilligiant to her Pokéball. ‘So, since my wall is down, and I’d rather you don’t Taunt my other Pokémon, I suppose I’m switching to my cannon.’ Saying so, Archie lifted his hand, and Ramsey dropped a Pokéball into his master’s hand. Then, with a gleaming little smile, Archie called out his second Pokémon.

"Aw, shoot. I was looking forward to seeing what kinds of birds are around." He looked down at Seabreeze. "Looks like we might be looking for a Pidgey to join our efforts, Seabreeze. I'll need you to think of a good nickname for it."

Immediately, Seabreeze cawed. "WINGULL!"

"... hm, good suggestion, buddy! I'll keep it in mind." Skylar looked to Vivia and Alice and smiled softly at them. "I kinda wanna find a Pidgey, so if we could try and find one of those that'd be sweet. If not, then it'll be okay." Skylar raised a thumbs up as he handed the towel back, pulling Seabreeze's Pokeball out of his bag for a moment.

He looked to Seabreeze. "Do you really wanna be back in here."

"Wing."

"I'm fine with that. Climb on up here, bud." The trainer put his Pokeball back in his bag as Seabreeze flew up to his hair, nestling in it and cooing. "Heh, is it warm?"

He looked back at Vivia and Alice. "We're ready to go!"

Amelia was happy to see that neither of Dawkin's opponents lasted very long against his pokemon. She noted Dawkin needed to learn a bit more about the abilities his opponent's might possess but otherwise, she knew he did very well, as she noted his pokemon suffered minimal damage. She doubted that she would've been able to pull off a similar feat but she knew this might change over time. After he was done, she resumed in leading the way to the ruins, wonder what they would find.

It honestly was more then she expected. The ruins themselves where nothing out of the ordinary or unexpected. A single visible structure built into the rocks, possibly going underneath the sand, with several pillars surrounding it. There were also several tents set up outside the ruins, suggesting a research team was here. Either that or looters, though she hoped not. Thankfully, it looked more like the former option, as there were several people who resembled researchers about. The bad news was that they were running away from the sight due to a small army of Gollets. She noted two people battling against them but the numbers were just too much and they were quickly overwhelmed before being picked up and taken into the ruins, not putting up much resistance after their pokemon ere knocked out.

When Dawkin went to send his pokemon out, Amelia gently grabbed his hand and shook her head at him.
"Don't bother. There are more here then we can count, so even if you tried to battle them, you're pokemon would be overwhelmed and it would be for not. Something has riled the guardians of this place up. If we want to help, the best thing to do would be to head in and find whatever it is. Save your pokemon the suffering for now. I doubt the Gollets will actually harm anyone." She said calmly before walking towards the army of clay automatons. If one of them approached her, she would put up no resistance in being taken, simply reaching out to take it's hand instead, letting it lead her away. Part of her hoped they wouldn't be so rough if her if she was willing to go along, but if they carried her, they could do so without her struggling.

From a distance, Joshua watched all this, sipping a bottle of water.
"Well, wonder what kind of party they'll find inside. Hopefully not too much." He said to himself. He hoped the kids could handle it on their own, but he was willing to intervene if things got out of hand. But only time would tell.

Dawkin Trustram

Dawkin paused to listen to what Amelia had to say. Was she sure? Dawkin was pretty confident that his strategy could wittle down at least a large amount of the Gollets if not entirely remove the ones in the area. Furthermore, there was the question of the people being kidnapped, which no one seemed to be reacting appropriately to. "Tch, I suppose you know your way around ghost Pokémon." Dawkin said reluctantly, halting his charge. "Wait, what do you think you're-" Dawkin said with some confusion as Amelia simply walked into their midst, intent on becoming a victim as well. What? Was that really the best idea. Dawkin sighed in irritation. Whatever. He would wait for a bit to see if there was any chance of him sneaking after her, around 5 minutes at the longest. If no chance presented itself he would resign himself to following after her via Gollet.

Alice

With a light wave to Rhyperior, Alice moved back to Vivia and Skylar with a smile on her face.

"Great! Traveling with friends is always better than walking alone," she said brightly. "Maybe we could start heading towards that gym the Professor mentioned, if no one else had any ideas. Maybe we'll find some new friends along the way?"

Assuming everyone was agreeable, Alice would set off with Cici in her arms. First stop, the Pokecenter! And then... Things could begin for real!

She was excited as she stoked Cici's head softly. This was everything she had wanted, and she couldn't hold herself back anymore! She was going on a real adventure with friends and there was nothing that was going to stop her from meeting that mysterious champion and seeing Rhyperior again as promised.

Eryn Montero

Pureplain City || Kalmia’s Lab || Mid-Morning

“Great job, Dei!” Meeting Dei halfway on the battlefield, Eryn grinned, checking her Pokemon over for injuries. “We’ll get on with everything after a trip to the Pokemon Center—to get my little winner all patched up,” she said, rubbing the Charmander affectionately as he tried his best to shy away.

Straightening, she flashed Oaken a friendly smile. He was about what Eryn had hoped for in her first opponent. “You weren’t so bad yourself, with the disadvantages you were dealing with.”

Then, after taking a moment to offer to recall Dei—which he refused, brandishing his pain like a badge of honor—Eryn looked up to see Oaken making off already. Here, she had a choice: be respectful and acknowledge his personality or assert herself as, well, herself. And, being herself, she chose the second—though in this case she was interrupted by Professor Kalmia walking over.

“Trainer’s school? I’ll see you there then!” she called with a grin, waving Oaken off before focusing on the professor. Vaguely attempting to shake off praise and maintain a semblance of humility when the professor praised her, Eryn received the Pokeballs and potion with cheerful gratitude, thanking the professor profusely as she gave Dei a healthy spray or two and promising to call when possible. Then, turning her attention to her fellow first-day trainers, Eryn was pleased to see that Skylar and Alice had finished their battle.

“Go Axl! You can do it!” Eryn called, walking over to Skylar and Alice. “I’m guessing from the cheers from earlier that you two won? Great job, and better luck next time, Vivia.”

Beside her, Dei straightened a bit, chest puffed.

“Yes, Dei, you did great too,” Eryn said, amused. “Well, I’m headed off to the Trainer School now, so I’ll see ya’ll around!”

Waving, Eryn made to leave, but not before scooping up Dei when she saw him struggling to keep up with her brisk pace.

“Quit with the moodiness. You’re lucky I’m offering,” Eryn said, giving the Charmander a squeeze as she picked up her pace again.

'Oh, and right, this too!' Kalmia took out a set of Super Potions, handing one to each so they didn’t have to go to the Pokémon Center. … Or they could go to the Pokémon Center anyway and get themselves a free Super Potion, seeing how that was apparently the destination of at least two right now anyway. Eryn apparently already applied said potion in her post, so that’s fine. Moving on.

@Old Amsterdam@Gardevoiran

As discussed, the group headed for the Pokémon Center. They could save on a Super Potion by just letting the nurse heal them instead.

So, it wasn’t exactly defined what they wanted to do at the Pokémon Center, so here’s assumed they asked around to more experienced trainers and see what they say.

‘The docks of Isson connects to the rest of the world! If you go there, you can buy the things exclusive to other regions! But, heh, it’s going to cost a pretty penny. Maybe return after earning some money on your journeys, eh?’
‘Route 1 is a safe route, a place where young trainers can train to become strong. Route 2 is undoubtedly more exciting, with Wet Caverns presenting a challenge to all who enter it. It’s pretty easy to get lost in there. I know they sell maps in Lakewatch Town, but that’s on the other side. How thoroughly unhelpful.’
‘Many young trainers start out going to Infested Woods to the east. However, that’s a beginner’s trap. The outer forest is safe enough, but venture too deep… Yeah, that wood is a little too close to everyone’s favorite city to start out from for my liking.’
‘Don’t be afraid to walk off the edge of the map! Just because an option isn’t listed, it doesn’t mean you can’t do it. Take the Silent Forest north of Route 1 or west of Route 3. No map tells of a way into it… but you can just walk in there, can’t you!? Take a chance! You have no idea what you might find!’
‘It always rains on Route 3, and Wet Caverns await after Route 2… Yupp! No matter what way you go, you’re going to get wet! Best to prepare yourselves! Oh, though I suppose you could take a boat from Highhill Town. That works too, but isn’t using vehicles in a Pokémon journey kinda cheating…?’
‘Super Contests are held in Pureplain City! They hold the most amazing of shows there! It’s a step up from the Normal Contests of Redcoast City where anyone can enter. … And Penelope has been mopping the floor with her contestants, both there and in the Trainers’ School! Ooooh, Penelope… How my heart aches for you…’
‘The Trainers’ School of Pureplain is the finest in the land! Go there if there’s something you want to know, and I here they occasionally let out rare Pokémon in their little park? I wonder what they have right now~!’
‘They say that once upon a time a great beast liked to run over the great plains which Pureplain City were originally named after. However, now most of the plain is taken over by Pureplain City, there’s little plain left to run on and it hasn’t been seen for ages. I wonder if the beast is still somewhere out there…?’
‘Pureplain City has a Pokémon Gym, just like all the other towns of Isson. … However, the leader might be have a case for being the strongest Gym Leader in Isson. There’s no use challenging him yet. Travel, become strong, and come back when you feel ready! Even then, you probably aren’t! He wiped the floor with me…’

So, with that done, they’re still in Pureplain City. Anything they want to do there?

That, or there was a mention that they might head towards the Gym Kalmia mentioned? That Gym lies in Highhill Town, and to get there they have to leave Pureplain City. If so, then they’d head across the streets until the buildings thinned out, following the road until a small plain stretched before their eyes, where trainers had their first experiences as Pokémon Trainers…

If Skylar wants a Pidgey, they’re all over the place, here. Either seeking scraps in the streets of Pureplain City or picking at bugs in the grass of Route 1…

Pokédex Entry #16 – Pidgey, the Tiny Bird Pokémon. They are docile Pokémon that avoid fighting, kicking up sand in an enemy’s face or using Whirlwind to avoid battles. They have sharp senses of direction, capable of finding their nest or destination from very large distances. They inhabit tall grass where they search and prey on small bugs.

Eryn moved after Oaken on the way to the Trainers’ School. He looked a bit surprised at the fact she had said she was meeting him there, but quickly adapted and gave her a little nod. In Pureplain City it was a regular, peaceful day, with people and Pokémon heading on their daily business and young trainers gathering where they belonged. Of course, one such place was the Trainers’ School, which Eryn and Oaken was far from the only ones that were heading to.

It’s a school. Kids around Pureplain City flock here eventually to learn the basics of Pokémon battling, or there are trainers that come here only to attend the odd lesson before they embark on their big journey. There’s a patch of grass on the side where wild Pokémon can be found, and every week the teachers are known to have found a new specie to release into it in order to keep the students interested. And, of course, there’s plenty of Pokémon battling among the students as they do their best to learn. In fact…

To the right immediately after Eryn enters the school, there’s a list of students in a ranking-list on a wall. A huge list of the 50 top students, ranked in Pokémon battling ability, and there’s a thing that anyone who visits can challenge the list to get onto it temporarily. Leaving for too long obviously means falling off the list, but those who rank high gain some benefits and bragging rights.

But even above the #1… The school apparently had their own Elite Four and Champion that one could challenge.

Pureplain City Trainers’ School
Elite Four:
Georgia - The Brawler
Loke - The Knight
Penelope - The Idol
Edwin - The Cricket

Champion: Daisy - The Siren
(The Champion in our hearts, Maple - The Scorcher, is currently out on her Pokémon trip. We send out our most heartfelt wishes to her!)

'Hm. I have already studied all the subjects they are likely have available here, and I’m not particularly interested in proving my worth here in battle. When I prove myself, I will do so in the real League. For now, I will be going to their park and see if they have any rare Pokémon available that I would like to add to my team,' Oaken said, turning to walk towards the park.

So. What would Eryn do here? Anything she wanted to know, challenge, or catch?

The Golett which Amelia approached stopped to take a look at her, inspecting her curiously. Then, unfortunately, she was not given the comfort of walking as it picked her up and hauled her onto its shoulder, the little golem holding her over its arm as it turned about to walk back to the Old Tombs with her. Now, Goletts are actually only a meter tall, so to lift adults it probably needed two of them each, but for the daughter and Amelia one sufficed, though it probably wasn’t that comfortable.

Dawkin did not have to wait long for a chance to sneak after, for the Goletts did not actually post any guards of any kinds. The Goletts that had failed to grab any captives walked on into the desert, moving out towards any living humans they could see and otherwise just headed straight out. They weren’t very perceptive, so with the assumption that Dawkin hid they’d pass by without noticing him. Those that did get ahold of someone headed into the tombs with them without posting any guards, meaning he was free to stalk after the Golett carrying Amelia off.

So, with that, through two different means, they descended down the stairs…

@PlatinumSkink

With held breath Claire watched the ensuing battle. The empowered fire attack slammed into the Lilligant, burning the large grass type slightly. But it wasn't enough. The pokemon exchanged another blow, with Lilligant healing itself with a Mega Drain - but even with healing itself, it could not withstand another. Zeal blasted another ball of fire towards the Lilligant - and with a mighty cry, that grass type fell, falling into the wooden platform below and the silk threads of the string shot burning in the hot sun.

"Hahah!" Claire laughed brightly alongside Archie. "Good job, Zeal! We'll have to thank Del later." She grinned, excitedly bouncing. Zeal beat his chest with his fists, stomping the ground in a playful and eager manner as Archie announced he was sending out their 'cannon'. "Cannon, eh? Send us whoever! We can handle it!" Claire grinned

"Monmon!" Zeal smirked aggressively, motioning for Acrhie to do his worst, and the worst Archie did. The next pokemon was an equally massive grass type. A sunflora that rivaled Lilligants own size as Archie went on to explain 'Solar Power'. That sounded absolute bad time, but she wouldn't be dissuaded so easily. Archie suggested dodging? Ahahaha, no.

"Dodging, eh?" Claire grinned, taking an aggressive stance. "The best defense is a good offense!" Archie said one thing - Solar Power only increased their special attack. She just had to exploit that and help whittle down the Sunflora's HP! Besides, getting close was the best way to avoid that solar beam. "Zeal! Show 'em how us fighting types do it! Hammer 'em with another Ember!"

Just as the first massive ray of light was unleashed in Zeal's direction, the monkey pokemon leaped to the side, trying to get close to the sunflower pokemon while it hopefully avoided the first solar beam. Claire had to raise her arm to her face, the sheer force of the attack sending her stumbling back a bit. As soon as Zeal got close enough, he'd engage in a close range battle, blasting the Sunflora in the face with an Ember.

Zeal dodged out of the way, managing precisely to get out of the way of the giant beam of sunlight, yet the mere proximity to the beam was causing a bit of damage to him. It would have been bad, had it not been Not Very Effective. Now his fire-type took in the burning rays pretty well, despite the massive amount of power. And then, he dashed forth to get close to the giant sunflower, behind which Archie tilted his head a bit.

‘No Taunt? Okay,’ Archie shrugged, then smiled so widely as he called out. Grass Whistle!

While Sunfloorall had been preparing for another blast, it was quick enough to completely switch tactics when Zeal came running for him. Instead of charging its face with solar energy, it instead directed one of its leaves to its mouth and blew. The sound was an almost enchanting yet exceedingly eerie tune, sounded out in Zeal’s direction. While the instinct was probably to dodge that, too, sound was considerably harder to dodge, especially when you just dashed that much closer to the source. The sound echoed across the battlefield and Zeal couldn’t help but fall fast asleep onto his stomach as he reached Sunfloorall’s feet.

‘Why, oh, why, did you want to get close? … Eh! Sunfloorall, do your thing~!’ Archie shrugged again and gave his command with a wide smile.

‘Floooooora~!’

Sunfloorall happily called out, taking numerous giant steps backwards as the huge flower charged another Solar Beam towards the now sleeping target…

What would Claire do in response to that? The options would be to hope Zeal woke up or switch Pokémon, though the one she switched to would get an immediate Solar Beam in their face. Or anything else, that the GM hasn’t thought of yet.

Eryn Montero

Pureplain City || Kalmia’s Lab || Noon

Eryn took in the school with envious nostalgia. Here in the city, even kids in primary had the opportunity to drop by after school and brush up on their Pokemon knowledge. Where she had only her parent’s and neighbor’s Pokemon to play with every now and then, the city kids seemed to have everything from professional trainers for teachers to boundless resources in both information and Pokemon.

Still, it wasn’t like complaining would get her anywhere, and, seeing that she was already here, she may as well take advantage of the resources.

Seeing Oaken head towards what appeared to be a park, Eryn shouted a greeting but refrained from following. She’d check out the available information and peek into the classrooms a bit first.

Adjusting her cap, Eryn grinned at the Charmander beside her. “Well, Dei. Let’s start getting caught up.”

“Char.”

After tracking down the library, Eryn wandered around, lingering first in the area with resources on Pokemon habitats to check on the species that lived along the southern border of Isson, since that was the path she’d been thinking of taking. Route 2 and its landmark areas—the Infested Woods and Wet Caverns—were major points of interest, and Eryn made note of what rare sightings and rumors the school had information on. Her own research was from common resources online, and she clearly lacked the channels the school had in terms of finding out what rare Pokemon dwelled where she was headed.

The Infested Woods sounded like the ideal training place for Dei, seeing as he was a fire-type. That he lacked any fire-type moves would have to change before she left the woods. Though Eryn wasn’t totally comfortable with the ominous whispers she’d heard of the Infested Woods back home—insects and ghosts abound, looking to swallow up trainers that strayed too far from the path—she wasn’t about to be deterred. She had Dei, and Dei had her. Worst case scenario, she’d have him train a bit on Route 2 before entering the woods. And, seeing as the Wet Caverns were the next stop down the road, Eryn knew she’d have to catch a grass-type before she got there, seeing as Dei was a fire-type.

The Wet Caverns were a bit too far from home for Eryn to have heard much about. North to Highhill Town and beyond was the path her family took when they travelled, so after scanning the information on the local Pokemon, she headed towards the geography section to look up paths through the cavern. Getting lost in the caverns was something she’d like to avoid if possible, and until she had a grass-type, she wasn’t about to take any risks with Dei, who’d long fallen asleep at this point, curled on a stray armchair. Fighting Oaken’s Skorupi had draining for her too, if she were being honest, but the effects of the battle were negligible compared to her first-day adrenaline boost. However, she hadn’t been the one fighting the battle, and she let him be after adjusting his tail so that the flame wasn’t too close to anything flammable.

After the caverns came Lakewatch Town, and Eryn soon found herself engrossed in texts about the locals and their relationship with the lake. A life of patrolling in boats and guarding the dragons from afar was too different from hers for her to imagine properly, and she knew she’d have to take them up on a tour or two. The oft-cited loyalty of dragon-types had always fascinated her, and she couldn’t think of a more trainer-like thing to do than rear a hatchling dragon, seeing as dragon-types were usually born to humble beginnings with tiny razors and claws. Though Eryn was a little dismayed that the locals didn’t seem to allow trainers to catch any of the venerable species, she knew it was reasonable of them to ask so, although she’d be lying if she claimed she didn’t sit there for a few seconds thinking up possible loopholes. Perhaps trading a Pokemon for a dragon, or even an egg, would be better. The locals would likely need Pokemon to protect them from the dragon-types as well—a fact that reminded Eryn that she herself lacked a Pokemon to deal with dragon-types. Either an ice- or fairy-type would serve that role, but now she knew she was getting ahead of herself. She wasn’t even out Pureplain City yet, and she was already on her way to fantasizing about Cooldome City’s ice-types.

After taking a detour to take one last peek at the rumors in the area around Lakewatch Town to make sure she wasn’t missing anything, Eryn found Dei again, who opened an eye when she reached to pet him.

“Heya, Dei. You ready to head back out there?” Eryn whispered.

Dei nodded, stretching. “Char,” he said, slipping off the armchair and onto his feet.

“Alright, let’s if we can get some training in here,” Eryn said, grinning as she led the way to the door. The ranking list she’d passed on her way into the school hadn’t escaped her attention, though she figured she may as well check out the school’s park first. An ice-type would help with the Infested Woods, though she’d prefer a grass-type for the Wet Caverns. And, if she wasn’t getting too far ahead of herself at this point, Eryn figured a fairy-type wouldn’t hurt either.

Skylar's interest was piqued in the Pokemon Center when he heard about Silent Woods' existence. It sounded super interesting. A good place to catch a Ghost type, he would've had to guess. Cool, and it was somewhere he wanted to check out soon. What if he found a Drifloon there? Or a Murkrow?! Oh, the options were scratching at his back! He had to check it out soon, and he was gonna drag Alice there whether she liked it or not! Hopefully she wouldn't mind, anyway...

Until then, he and Seabreeze would have to settle for looking for the perfect Pidgey (with Seabreeze mainly looking). Not your standard run-of-the-mill Pidgey, either. If Skylar was catching one of the cute little birdbrains, he needed to make sure it had some real character. He was on the hunt for that, whether it was bravado or timidity. Curiosity or resentment. If he was gonna find a Pidgey, he wanted the one.

Make no mistake, either. While he was on Route 1, he was still searching for the traces of any rarer flying types as he and Seabreeze led the way North, heading towards the Silent Woods to explore. Should the occasional Rattata or ne'er-do-well Pidgey try to assault Skylar and Seabreeze, they wouldn't mind having a spot of training against them, too. He was trying to become the best Flying type trainer in the region, and he couldn't do that with Seabreeze just being a little bit... new to everything.

Eryn found the library to be a calm place with students studying and quite the selection of things to study. She was welcome to tell what she was looking for and then be given exactly the resources she needed. So, then…

Then Eryn headed off to the park and investigated. There were a bunch of students already in here, among the grass and trees, seeking what could potentially be a rare Pokémon. Eryn overheard some students searching frantically nearby…

‘C’mon! Keep looking! I heard they released a rare Fairy-type! We have to find it!’
‘Huh? Fairy? I heard it was a Steel-type?’
‘Doesn’t matter! Finders keepers, and I’m gonna find it!’

… And they were running straight past a rock, on which a purple little cat was sitting and resting, watching those around it unenthusiastically, before starting to lick its own paw…

Pokédex Entry #509 – Purrloin, the Devious Pokémon. It puts up a cute act to fool humans around it. It loves stealing things for fun and will act cute in order to make people forgive it. If endangered, it will counter-attack with sharp claws.

That was the current situation. What’d Eryn do?

@Gardevoiran

Statement: Pidgeys gonna be Pidgeys. They peck up food where they find it, pecking food or otherwise flying off wherever they feel like. The ones which Skylar saw around here all obeyed rather typical bird-logic and didn’t entirely seem like they were displaying any specific intention of being particularly special. That said, he could test their natures in various ways if he were so inclined. These Pidgeys were rather used to humans, so there were probably some curious enough to approach if Skylar looked like he in the slightest presented the opportunity to maybe obtain food. As for bravado or resentment, he’d have to engage them in battle for that. Most appeared pretty timid, though. There WOULD be random Rattata attacking, though…

Pokédex Entry #19 – Rattata, the Mouse Pokémon. It has impressive vitality that allows it to live anywhere there is food. It scavenges for food all day and reproduces quickly. Very cautious, it’s ears listen for trouble even when asleep. It’s teeth never stop growing, it will gnaw on things to keep their size in check.

… But Skylar and Seabreeze could handle those pretty easily, it’s not like the rats could catch a water gunning bird, after all.

Skylar was disheartened that all the Pidgeys around him were pretty much the same, and while fighting some Rattatas was fun, he was ultimately getting nowhere fast. He was eager to find some new team members, and while Pidgeys were good and all, he wasn't so excited about catching one. He only had 5 Pokeballs to his name, and he figured it'd be worth using one on something with a little more variability.

As such, he needed to convince the rest of his friends that he wanted to move forward. SO, he looked in their general direction, and walked towards them (as long as Seabreeze didn't get distracted while he was walking)

"Hey, Vivia and Alice? Think we can go check out the Silent Woods? All that's around here are Pidgeys and Rattatas. They're not great for training, I don't think..." He held out his arms for Seabreeze to fall into, which he did, before patting his bird on the head. He was adorable, Seabreeze. Just the most precious Wingull ever.
