BiographyAfro's early origins are only known to him and he doesn't tell anyone that he doesn't implicitly trust, and even then his condition wouldn't make the task very easy. It wasn't simple to find him either with the nature of his gift.
His discovery was the result of a report sent in by a sympathizer to the "UnHoly" ones. Afro was in a workhouse, where they were essentially keeping him hidden. As it were, the boy was dumb, but highly intelligent and literate, far beyond others of his same age group. It was to the point where in one instance he learned a trade in the span of a week, simply through reading about the subject and putting it into practice. The Head of the workhouse took notice and decided to use the boy's talents for his own advantage.
At first, it was for writing reports back to the government, as the child had managed to master his handwriting. Then it branched into writing superiorly articulated letters, which boosted the head's reputation, while the boy himself was mostly abused, forced into reading books so as to be able to do whatever the Head wanted. The boy was kept under his thumb, due to threats relating to the only members of Afro's biological family that he had been separated from. That if Afro didn't do everything that the man asked, he'd never see them again.
Undercover agents from the
Queen's Hand were sent in to learn more about this boy who had such an intellectual gift. The boy had managed to deduce that the men were more than the inspectors whom they presented themselves as, due to observation and key questions in the few times that he did speak.
However, instead of telling the Head straight away, one of the agents managed to notice that Afro was drawing amidst the conversation. The Head had managed to shoo the men away temporarily, but Afro dropped paper for them to find.
As it turned out, along with the drawing came a hidden message, stating for them to meet him at a nearby post office that next morning. As it turned out, Afro had to deliver some mail that day for the Head of the workhouse, but he also came with a letter for them.
Considering that they could figure out his message, he had wrote them about his status as one of the "UnHoly". He presented the case of his mistreatment, using the laws in favor of the UnHoly to his advantage. That was when he learned that these men were actually recruiters from the
Queen's Hand, and that they were originally looking for a
man named "Augustus", only to meet the extraordinary boy himself.
The boy agreed to go work with them under the condition that they would help him find his family. It has been a difficult process, considering the boy's...peculiarities, but gradual progress is being made.
AbilityIntuitive Aptitude Description - Afro can rapidly learn and understand the workings and mechanics of nearly anything, regardless of how simple or complex. He can comprehend the complexity and exactness of events, organisms, objects, subjects, fields, powers, etc. without the need of long-term or special education, or explanation.
His brain can process nearly anything that he sees or reads and can put it into practice. Meaning, if it's physically possible for a mundane person to do, Afro is capable of performin or mimicking it perfectly. It also enables him to many detective-like tendencies as he learns from the actions.
Restriction - The only true restriction to Afro's gift and capabilities is his mental condition. It is incredibly similar to
Asperger's Syndrome, disabling him when it comes to social interactions, especially with those whom he doesn't know or trust. Although he is intelligent enough to understand his problem and work around it in many cases, it is a chronic struggle. He also seems to take on some symptoms of PTSD and acts rather irrationally when too close to an open flame. If it weren't for this inhibition, his power could likely advance to new heights.
