A nuclear explosion itself is the thermal and radioactive emission from the nuclei being split or fusing together, where as the concussive force generated by it, in this case, is the shock wave generated by the growing fireball that heats and expands the surrounding air and creates a forceful disruption that acts as a blast. It is prefaced by a dip in pressure than a massive spike in it as the molecules in the air are all forced together into a not-wholly-invisible wall that pummels things in its path when it buffets them. The rest of the explosion, the thermal emission, heat and light, does the majority of the destructive impact, unlike conventional explosions. The radioactive emission, in the form of Gamma rays and Neutrons, tend to be particularly deadly as they are released at blinding speeds during detonation and are hard to defeat, whereas Alpha and Beta particles tend to be more a consequence of them clinging to atmospheric particulates that are created by the mushroom cloud and become fallout as the intense heat cools and they rain back to earth, either as "black rain" or just radioactive "snow", @Luna_Maria.

I suppose this also constitutes a random fact about myself as well, that nuclear physics was a part of my repertoire. Unfortunately not often is that required but it certainly has been an interesting subject matter to delve into. I revisit it at times, when I become fond of learning things outside my actual scope or relevance.

I love biology.

The life sciences and natural history are my own particular pursuits, although I must admit I find the microbiology sciences a bit grating. Chemistry, despite obviously delving into biochemistry, feels too different and disjointed from the rest, with some odd obsessions about reducing life down to inorganic existence. Macrobiology I am far more sympathetic to as it, to the surprise of none, feels far larger and more interactive.

I was once pulled into the office by the schools nurse and told that my backpack weighed 21 pounds and that I should stop shoving books into it.

This is probably why I am a little over 5'0 now.

On the topic of educational studies, I was never much of a fan in regards to math and science (excluding geology). I did enjoy my social studies/language arts classes, however, and I tended to excel more in these classes compared to math and science.

When I was in school, Math was my favorite subject. Later on, I got into history and writing. I've been reading history for 44 years. I've been writing for pleasure for many years, but only got into Play by Post writing since 2008. I also enjoy reading. Science has always been so-so; not a favorite, but not bad either. I also tend to have a proclivity towards foreign languages.

I became a lifeguard in high school & college because of a drowning accident when I was 10. I wanted to overcome a fear of water and never feel like I was ever going to die in the water again, because I really loved swimming and still do to this day!

@Denny I want to like your comment a thousand times. I became a lifeguard my sophomore year of high school, not because of a drowning accident, but because I didn't know how to swim... like... at all. So I was thrown into a competitive swim team where every race was just me trying not to die for over a minute (a minute swim time is terrible for those not in the know). And then, it was decided that my exemplary swimming skills qualified me for the position of lifeguard as my first ever job.

A year or so later, I rescued a kid who was found unconscious at the bottom of the pool.

These days, I love the water.

@Exit Swimming was everything for me, especially because living in the Midwest there isn't much else to do in the summer. Thankfully I never had to "save" anyone until college. Swimming at a quarry with a student organization that I was the vice-president for, a group of us went out and raced across the quarry and one of the swimmer's leg cramped and couldn't swim, he was exactly in the middle of the quarry and just went down and panicked. Luckily, I saw him go down and was fast enough to get him and pull him to shore where one of my roommates (who was also a lifeguard) was able to help me pull him out. It's hard when you're an average height guy like myself trying to save a dude who is a bit taller and bulkier than you.

All and all, wouldn't want to do it again, just happy I had the confidence and necessary skill then to help out though.

Ugh. Yeah. I remember having to train for that. Your 'victims' were supposed to thrash about and try to take you under with them because that was exactly what someone in panic mode would do.

OT: I have an unhealthy obsession with cheezits.

I use humor to try and get through tough things. I know it's not appropriate for everyone, but I feel that laughing is the best way to help me recover from something.

I've got the same birthday as Oda Nobunaga. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

My birthday is smack dab between my great grandmother's and my grandmother's. I was supposed to be born the day before, but the doctor didn't get there in time.

My birthday is two days after my grandma's, a day after my cousin's, and a day before my aunt's.

In simpler terms? For Tundy's relatives, the week of June 24th is a busy week.

Same, though I don't really get queasy. I don't like pickles touching my food at all, so I specifically order stuff without them. Kind of the same way with onions too, but those are more tolerable.

Continuing the topic of food, I used to love bananas and oranges as a kid (or so I've heard), but nowadays I refuse to touch them. I do, however, like orange/banana-inspired or flavored products such as banana bread or orange juice.
