@Reflection I know, hense why i designed To with an inbuilt power-cap. Can't go full power or he start trying to kill everyone. It's something that he'll manage to work past at later levels, but for now, its part of his character.

I'm a sucker for the "Character with instant power boost that makes him go nutty, later, after a lot of hard work and self-discovery, learns of power boost that is not only a lot safer but a lot more powerful." trope.

But why force those of us who didn't start at 800 to forever be unable to catch up? That feels like we're being punished for no good reason.

Having the stronger power level isn't an instant win. Frieza at full power was stronger than super saiyan Goku, but Goku kept on fighting and made him burn through his energy and beat him

@Weird Tales What it does do is create a status quo. Like having certain characters who are just stronger because of their numbers. And that means other characters are always going to be "Weaker" because they don't have better numbers.

Even if Power Levels are bullshit, it doesn't stop the fact that it's frustrating to know character strength growth is capped.

Nobody is ever going to want to be the weakest and everyone is going to have their own plans of how they want things to work out or happen. Even if power levels weren’t explicitly written out, people would still find a way to argue about who is the strongest and what people can or can’t do to their characters. In any RP like this where there is going to be one bad guy to fight, everyone wants to be the focal point, the one who gets the killing blow. I mean the idea of following the sagas is great but I think we have too many people to follow them explicitly.

In terms of power levels, I like them in the way of just having an idea of where characters sit in terms of power. However there should be flex for people to have larger increases whether for story purposes or just because of how that person performed throughout a storyline.

Overall I like the activity shown by people so far, it shows there are legs in a DB RP for once. I just feel that people are getting frustrated with not being able to have a chance to do what they want with their characters. Maybe it’s just me.

@CaptainSully I'm surprised you're not more annoyed everyone ignored the plan and left Sam hanging.

@King Cosmos I am annoyed I’d just rather discuss solutions to stop it happening to anyone else again.

What version of DBZ were you watching? Super Saiyan Goku was stronger right from the start, to the point where Goku was the one who stopped fighting because he was bored. There was even a filler scene of Frieza's men on another planet using a large scale Scouter that measured Frieza's power level just fine but broke down when it tried to measure Super Saiyan Goku. Goku was stronger at that time. Several times stronger in fact.

There was definitely a scene where Frieza claimed he was only using 10% of his power, then Goku said he was only using 1% of his. Character statements may not be entirely accurate in this case, but I'd say SSJ Goku was stronger than Frieza.

Super Saiyan Blue vs Golden Frieza however? Frieza was stronger but burned out faster since he wasn't used to his new form.

To be fair, this is why i said the "Rules of Narrative" are important. Plus, even in DB, Power Levels have always been iffy. I mean, 17 was able to spar with SSGod Gokua without much problem. And considering that he wasn't strong enough to deal with Imperfect Cell and, without any clear visuals of him getting stronger somehow, managed to also go toe-to-toe with Jiren, i think it's clear that they bullshitted some numbers.

If Character X has to lose to Character Y in order to suit the narrative and make everything fun for everyone, then Character X will lose to Character Y.

@mattmanganon power levels have been nonsense ever since they jumped from "over 9000" to Frieza being a million in the space of one arc.

My reasoning for having set power level increases was so that players wouldn't constantly increase while leaving others behind. I could work it by having a maximum power level cap for the current arc

The original fight between Frieza and Goku clearly showed that final form frieza at 100 percent power was stronger than ssj Goku. He just burned through his power quicker and Goku was fucking inhuman with how he refused to stop fighting.

I gave people the option to start at the same power level, but some people wanted their characters to start off weaker than others

I think the reason some people started weaker is because they felt they'd have chances to grow that didn't revolve around a pre-set upgrade path. If I knew in advance that power-ups would be this regulated, I would have gone right for 800.

No he wasn't. Goku was the one whose power level busted the scouter when they're powers were measured worlds away, not Frieza. Goku was literally toying with Frieza the whole time until he literally got bored.

And you're missing my point entirely. I have no interest whatsoever in having all fights we ever fight in instant devolve into "Everyone dogpile the villain!" Not only is that a dumb strategy that has never worked in Dragon Ball, but it's also setting us up for battles that are bland, repetitive, and impossible to keep track of. How do you not see this?

To settle it, and to back up what Double said, Here is Friez'a 100% Full Power Power Level: 120,000,000. WOW! That is a lot! Gosh, there is no way Goku can beat th-

150,000,000. Goku was at that point, 30,000,000 power points stronger. And these numbers come from the encyclopedia, made by Akira Toriyama. These are the final numbers.

@Weird Tales I feel like a lot of suggestions have already been made in this thread.

To address the issue of all these fights turning into ganging up on the villain; add Saibamen, add random members of Frieza's army going forward, use movie lore in addition to the main series. Just... add more people for us to fight.

To address the issue of power levels; the training you do determines your power increase, give us some agency in terms of powering up out characters and don't just give everyone the same flat increase. There'll still be a discrepancy but at least the weaker characters can maybe catch up this way, instead of always being weaker because they didn't start at the cap.

@King Cosmos If we are bringing the movies into it. I get bagsie on To getting to take out Broly, I mean, Toe is going to see Broly and be like "Holy shit, another sadistic, out of control motherfucker to fight, Yay, a toy i get to break!" It'll be some good character building for him, as one of the plans for the character is to find someone that can meet him power-to-power. I like the idea of everyone standing around like "How long can those 2 keep this up?" when they have a gut-punch contest I'll concede any other win in the series, just give me my chance to play Toe scared shitless by something that is essentially himself taken to it's most extreme form.

Broly is a literal Villain Sue. At least the other movie villains had the decency to actually have some kind of explanation for them. Broly just comes out of nowhere and is magically the most powerful Saiyan ever that everyone is afraid of and could never hope to match, aka... a freaking Villain Sue. If you want to kill Broly then be my guest, but I'll not just stand there in awe like a dumbstruck idiot while you do so. That would just be stupid. If I wanted to see 99% of the cast stand around in dumbstruck awe while a single character dominates a villain, I'd just rewatch the actual series itself, God knows it abused the hell out of that trope with Goku. It doesn't help that Broly was one of those villains that just refused to stay gone. They brought him back two more times, a third if you count the upcoming movie. Why? What is so appealing about this guy that I'm just clearly not getting?

As much as I hate how often they brought back Frieza in the Super Era, at least he was a villain I actually liked. With Broly, eh, I just don't get the appeal with him.
