🔹 The story of how Hiyori came to be starts back in post-World War II. Yoko Harukichi's father was an officer for the Imperial Japanese Army and following their defeat, he was one of the many Japanese that were captured and put to work by the Soviet Union at the time. Several years of hard labor had passed grueling but to Yoko's father, he had nothing else in life with his family perishing in the nuclear denotation of Hiroshima. When his release finally came, he did not have the courage to return to his homeland and settled in Russia as close as he could get to Japan, Vladivostok. There, he married and produced one daughter before his early death from illness.

Hiyori's was conceived when a chance encounter had occurred between a second generation Japanese immigrant had encountered a mysterious man. A drifter, he was only passing through Moscow where he managed to meet and bed Yoko Harukichi ( a student at the time). It was one night but that was all it took for Yoko to become impregnated and set to be married the following week, Yoko became worried about the repercussions of her one night of unfaithfulness. Although considered disrespectful, Yoko remained silent about the affair and married her betrothed, Ivan Kozlovsky, anyway. When it became obvious Yoko was pregnant, the claim was made that she was bearing Ivan's child and went ahead with the pregnancy. To her relief, the child came out blond, just like the father.

Growing up in her childhood and adolescences, Hiyori always had a wild side to her, something that Ivan always believed to have given her. She was tough, almost ruthless, with a hot-temper to match and all those attributes added up to her constantly getting into fights and scraps with the other kids, winning every fair fight and even most of the unfair ones. It only became harder for other kids to fight her when her body slowly increased in density.

She had a reputation that was well received in her city and despite being well liked, her relationship with her parents was quite dysfunctional. From the very beginning, Hiyori had always felt like something was off, like some secret was being kept from her. Both her parents had just this aura of really pissing Hiyori off all the time and none so much as her father. Needless to say, this strained their relationship quite a bit, so much so, that when the time came for Hiyori to live independently, she left the country.

Hiyori lived some time in Japan finding work first as a bouncer to some club before her talents of beating the shit out of people were noticed by more "off the beat" types. A smaller syndicate of organized criminals recruited her as muscle for their operations. She was taught a few things but most importantly how to fight. This lifestyle had her believing there was promise, like it was her calling, but a few years and she feels the itch to leave. There is something more out there and she isn't going to be some glorified body guard for the rest of her life.

Without an actual record of trouble, she managed to get a temporary visa into the United States. There was real money and glory to be had in recognition in the States and Hiyori sought that opportunity out. In order to become a celebrity hero, she had to start with the small stuff. Fire rescues, crime stopping, and so on until her name finally stuck. Now she lives off of the revenue of just her image in the form of merchandise.

Fighting Style
🔹 Brute Force usually works out well for the Iron Maiden. Her enhanced strength and durability mean she usually be as reckless as she wants as many attacks are ineffective against her.

Strengths
🔹 As earlier mentioned, heightened strength and durability mean she can take pretty much anything you throw at her. Her increased weight makes it very difficult to push her around and knock her off her feet. Once she gets going, she is hard to stop.

Weaknesses
🔹 Stubborn approaches often leave oversights. She is likely to miss the reason why you are leading her to a particular place or other more nuanced maneuvers in battle that serve a tactical purpose.

Strengths
🔹 Iron Hide was a short-winded way of summarizing what Hiyori's mutation could do. Basically the implication is that her skin is like iron but complexities of the mutation go far deeper than that. The truth extent of her mutation goes down to the molecular level. All her bodily cells have a similar molecular makeup as that of a strange cobalt-like alloy. Her body has thus far presented no anatomical or physiological issues with the change and has instead benefited greatly from the change. One oddity that is physically observable is when the light hits just right you can see a slight glitter of blue.

Due to her cellular density being nine times the density of an average person, Hiyori weighs around half a ton. Her anatomical structure have compensated for this change in weight with a muscle and bone structure that is far stronger and flexible than the average human's. So she has enhanced strength, roughly maxed out at twice her body weight (1 ton). In addition to strength, she is rather difficult to physically harm. All parts of her body are highly resistant to injury with light arms fire and sharp objects failing to pierce her flesh. The chemical composure also ensures her to be highly resistant to heat damage.

Weaknesses/Limitations
🔹 If one is seeking to damage Hiyori, then some stronger forms of blunt trauma can occur if one had a significant amount of impact employed. For a more cartoon-ish example, dropping a steel beam on top of her would knock her unconscious and likely cause some hemorrhaging. An opponent could use stronger firepower such as a high caliber rifle to try and pierce her flesh but it would have to be a very big gun. However one does not need to be so drastic in order to incapacitate her.

Cobalt, or at least the alloy within her, is highly magnetic and can be manipulated by the usage of powerful magnets. A powerful magnet could keep her anchored in a preferred position. Lacking a magnet, one could simply use an electrical current or even a taser to stop Hioryi with ease as her metal composition conducts electricity with great efficiency, meaning she is very likely to feel the effects of anything electric. Additionally, the utilization of agents such as gas or liquid to cause internal trauma may work.

Appearance
Many describe Asuka as “elegant”, at 1.70cm with a thin frame with sharp facial features. Due to her powers, her weight changes a lot, so does her hair and even how pale/tanned her skin is, though she does like to keep her hair on a down to earth short cut, perhaps to dissociate her with characters she played in the past.



Personality
Unlike many of her characters, Asuka is a reserved and good-natured person, intelligent but lacking self-discipline (as seen in her often messy room and problems with keeping a proper schedule.) She had trouble dealing with fame and yet felt jealous and inadequate in comparison to her more popular friends, and while that has stayed in the past, her issue continues the same, she is just happy when she is living in a simple environment but is too ambitious to not aim for something greater.

As a mutant, she is a romantic thanks to the influence of her mother and friends. She thinks mutants should act as paragons, first as a symbol of good, setting the bar and drawing lines in the sand even if other more ruthless paths seem more efficient, second on an aesthetic level, thinking mutants should be like the living version of the ancient paintings of deities.

► Early Life

Born in 1996 in a small Japanese fishing village to a family that had ties to ancient mutant lines, often called ‘kami’ in the past, albeit none to a truly relevant line. She lived a simple life with her mother and father in a temple, many mutants had had trouble with the cultural and scientific changes brought in the 50s and 60s to Japan, but Asuka’s family always had developed a modest and sincere relationship with the village, thus maintaining their status, and even increasing it, as they often used their powers to help the locals on a more clear way.

To Asuka, however, there was a desire for shinier things than the life in a humble village, she had always been interested in pop culture and media, in particular, hero stories that used real mutant actors. Of course, studios in Tokyo were always ready to take in a new potential mutant actress, especially a young one, so when producers caught wind of Asuka, the opportunities started to rain.

► Cute Combat

At the age of 8, in 2004, Asuka finally got her first role. She had to move away from her home but thankfully had an aunt in the metropolitan area that took her in. She was to play a minor villain in the magical girl show Cute Combat, albeit a recurrent one, this was due to her powers being unclear, even if it was obvious she was a mutant. This was when she was introduced to the thriving culture of mutant pop culture of Japan that had started in the 60s. Jun Uramoto, the actress who played the protagonist of the show, Cherry Pink, was, in particular, a strong influence, since despite only being 10, the girl had a clear fascination with the history of the media.

Asuka’s role, Princess Saikuron, was popular with watchers thanks to her smug and often over the top reactions, this popularity only increased when she finally developed her powers, around season three of the show, especially since it was so versatile and useful for a weekly format show. It was no surprise that when the format got a bit stale, around season seven, she joined the good girls team as Cloud White, though while a useful asset to the team in the last two seasons, she ended up being good at helping the other girls stand out, but was somewhat overshadowed herself.

► Career issues and America

As a mutant actress, Asuka would keep trying to get other roles even as Cute Combat continued, in particular, she sought roles that felt calmer and ‘good’ in comparison to Saikuron’s outlandishness, in particular, because she did not want to be a one trick pony. She got a few lead roles, and many minor roles in romantic comedies, but nothing that really stood out the test of time like Cute Combat, this situation became particularly problematic starting 2015, when Cute Combat ended, while the finale was loved, most agreed it was time to end it.

While many of the CuteCom actresses would land important roles in society, Asuka was definitely not someone who did that, her powers were not useful for anything but combat, yet not exactly of the interest of the Japanese police force. Life in Tokyo was also made not too nice by the constant gossiping and requests to go to talk shows merely to talk about her struggling career and what was her opinion on her friend’s latest actions.

In 2017 she had had enough and decided to move away back home, but that did not work out well either, it was still too slow for her. It was then that she considered leaving to the US. Cute Combat had never got popular there despite the love for Japanese media due to a preference for darker shows, meaning she wouldn’t need to deal with no one’s shadow.

And that leads to now. An ex-child-actress with more than enough money living in Azure City. She still doesn’t know what to do with her life, but at least its quiet now.

Combat

Fighting Style
With a mix of a strong tradition in martial arts and a booming mutant culture, Japan developed quite a few new philosophies of combat, many quite extravagant. Asuka’s preferred methods are mix of “Overwhelm” style, which is all about field control and incessant response to actions to mess with an enemy’s mind and “Elegant” style, which focuses on a few decisive ‘finisher’ blows.

Strengths
In the middle range, she is a very hard foe to overcome, making it hard to approach her but too dangerous to disengage and run. The training she had received for the shows were not just theatrics and she has a good response time.

Weaknesses
Long range has been a known issue for her, she can move fast when using certain absorbed matter, but that also means leaving behind the defenses. Her style is very front focused, attacks from the sides or the back are an issue. If the range is too close, one can deny the use of her powers by simply holding her arms, she is not untrained but far from strong enough to avoid a grapple. All of these are natural weaknesses but also a result of all her training being based on group combat for a TV show, she is simply not trained to be a lone fighter.

Equipment
Most of her equipment was studio property, so as useful as they were, she hasn’t seen it in years. The one exceptions are sets of clothes, gifts from Irisa, who are resistant to most elements, saving her from the awkwardness of returning home in the nude.



Simply put, Asuka absorbs matter which is then used to change her body. When she places her arms in a parallel position a space-bending vortex appears in the empty space between both wrists, this creates a sucking vacuum in front of her that will absorb any loose matter. This matter is then deconstructed and used by her body, one at a time.

Known forms, from most common to least common
Air: Makes her lighter and faster, able to blow out gusts of winds.
Earth/Rock: Makes her heavy and stronger, forms a great combo with Air.
Water: Makes her slippery, enables water breathing, she can blow out water but it burns her matter fast.
Ice: Makes her very cold, leaving a trail of ice behind. Also slippery.
Metal: Resistance and armor, not as strong as earth but still strong.
Glass: Makes her body hard to grasp thanks to the sharp blades of glass covering it. Also really sparkly.
Dew/Honey: Makes her body sticky and somewhat gooey.
Fire: Giver her an aura of fire, she cannot throw fireballs or any projectiles. Will consume other types of matter such as air and plant.
Thunder/Electricity: Increases speed and enables stunning electric attacks.
Chitin: Armor with decent speed, basically impossible to attain right now due to the nature of her powers.
Feather: Speed and gliding, basically impossible to attain right now due to the nature of her powers.

Know things that when consumed will not result in a form:
Vegetable organic matter: Is simply consumed as if it was food, produces some heat but that is it.
Dead animal organic matter: The same as plants, is merely consumed as food, even if it contains Chitin.
Metals: Mercury, Uranium, Lead, Gold, all of that if consumed produces no special effect but feed the metal form.
Carbon-related materials in general: From coal to diamonds to plastic.

Know things that cannot be consumed:
Living animals: Of course, many small animals and even people if they happened to try to dive kick right into the vortex can be taken into Asuka, but cannot be fully deconstructed. Without medical aid, Asuka cannot keep anything living “in her” for more than a minute before her ‘gag reflex’ forces her to spit it out and burn all of her matter.
Light: It will immediately escape her body in a flash when the vortex is closed.

Any sort of mammal, reptile or fish life produces no effect, insect life produces the chitin form and bird life produces the feather form. During the show days, she would be given sedated and bound animals, which would make it possible for her to hold them for an hour or two before the gag reflex kicked in (all animals being brought back safely.) however, as an independent person without studio help, there is no way she could get 30 kilograms of sedated animals in time for combat.

The mutant question: What happens if a mutant falls in? Nothing. She does not gain or copy a power from the mutant, if they had some sort of matter considered external to them (such as summoned ice armor, for example) then that matter would be consumed, but it does not matter since she cannot possibly hold a living entity for more than one minute without medicine, and forcefully creating a vortex to expell things she consumed (the gag reflex) causes her to be unable to absorb or use matter for hours.

The strength and limits of the vortex

-Asuka can create a vortex to absorb matter between arms (or by pressing her cheeks, this was how she did it on the tv show days, but its very embarrassing).
-The vortex will suck in a cone-shaped range in front of it.
-It has space bending properties so objects that near it distort so they can fit into the marble-sized black sphere.
-It can only consume loose objects that are caught in its vacuum, pressing the vortex against a wall or a chain does no damage.
-Most persons are able to resist the vortex’s pull simply by standing up with sure footing. Taking steps forward or firing projectiles however are not good ideas.
-It is unknown where the vortex leads to, it is typically referred to as being ‘within Usage’ as it does look like she is eating things, however, there is no signal of the consumed matter in her body. The few who fell into the vortex have no memory of after the fall. Recent experiments have shown the ‘flash’ her body produces when she closes the vortex are indeed the photons she consumed escaping from within her body, but this has not done much to explain the mystery.

Matter absorption’s and form shift limits and rules

-Matter absorbed (with exceptions) is deconstructed, meaning it loses many of the proprieties it once had. A bullet, for example, just becomes ‘metal’, and cannot be recovered.
-Asuka can only use one type of matter enhancement at a time. This is known as taking a form (see list above)
-Matter doesn’t interact, having consumed thunder and fire won’t make them manifest while in the metal form.
-Once a form is taken, it cannot be reversed until all of the related matter is consumed.
-She cannot hold matter for later, all matter must be consumed before she goes back to normal and can open the vortex. Consuming anything with the vortex forces her to take a form.
-Different actions consume matter at different speeds, just swimming around with water is a low-cost action, but spitting out a torrent of water is something she can only do once or twice before she runs out of the water.
-There is a minimum of matter before she can take a stable form, eating a pot of honey won’t enable the honey form, it takes a barrel or a whole supermarket shelf. If usable material does not reach the threshold when she starts to take form, it is lost.

Average power and combat usage

-Individually, the forms cannot beat a hero of the same area, obviously. It would take hours for Asuka to be able to consume enough air to produce a whirlwind, for example, and that would be a one time use of the matter.
-Its strength is in combos. From something as simple as going up in the air with wind and falling down like a meteor with earth to using electricity to set a place ablaze and then taking a fire form so she is immune to the heat.

The “Gag reflex” and the limits of consumption

-Asuka can consume up to 100kg of matter. Size and density not mattering.
-There is matter that won’t result in a form and matter that cannot be consumed, see the list in the forms section.
-If she eats something that she cannot digest, the ‘gag reflex’ which is a forced vortex to spell that matter, will be open.
-She is very resistant to things she absorbs, but she cannot simply slurp toxic sludge forever, the gag reflex will kick in.
-Once the gag reflex kicks in, not only she will expel all unabsorbable matter, she will also consume all absorbable matter she is holding, leaving her ‘empty’. This generates a very small explosion of energy, not an issue unless you are within arms reach of her.
-She will be sick after such an event and unable to open the vortex to absorb matter for a few hours to a couple of days.

-Unlike Jun, who focuses only on the heritage of mutants in Japan, Asuka is interested in it as a whole, this is in part why Azure City interests her.

⦁ Booke has well avoided the danger of frailty as he's aged. Standing at 6'2", and weighing 188 lbs, his liver spots and wrinkled skin belie his actual strength. He has made sure of this - due to the nature of his job. His hair is very much already grayed, and his eyes are a blue-gray tone that makes it seem as if he is in deep thought, in idleness - but those eyes can quickly change to a scrutinizing or angry mood.
When it comes to fashion, Booke prefers simple or discreet outfits - opting to don long-coats and Trilby-esque hats.

Personality
⦁ In Booke's younger years of the MSU, he was one cocky bastard. Since then, he has mellowed out with maturity - however, the confidence that came with that attitude has not fully left him. With age comes experience, and Booke knows this. A fine advantage over the common crooks of the modern day.

Fighting Style
⦁ Booke is not even close to being the best fighter out there, but he is one of the most-fit of the elderly ones. His strength, and to a lesser extent his agility, are more befitting to someone in their forties, and this is a great asset to someone unbecoming of such traits. This is not because of any power or augmentation, but due to careful training and conditioning over the years and present, on Booke’s part. However, someone with a good build and younger physique will overpower him. He often is seen carrying a (uneeded) cane, which he will use to deliver swift, energy draining strikes to precise points in the body, such as the temple, jaw, or calf muscles.
He has a various toolbox of martial arts, due to his lengthy time in the MSU, but if he has to resort to true hand-to-hand, he opts to use techniques from several styles at once, making it difficult to read.

Strengths
⦁ Booke has an easy time fighting people he can keep at a distance and strike with his cane, or his power.
⦁ He also has a nasty surprise factor in both his power and physical ability - who expects an elderly man to rival their physique in any way?

Booke's power is a very odd, lyncanthrope-esque faculty. However, instead of a wolf, he has features of a Tasmanian Devil.

Strengths
⦁ This animal-attribute power gives Booke traits of a Tasmanian Devil, without the tell-tale signs one would normally receive from being a Lycanthrope; Howling, being especially hairy, loss of control, etc.
⦁ Booke's sense of smell is impressively more than that of a normal human's, and he has superior vision in dark environments. His reaction speed is also enhanced for someone of his age. His nails are also hardened and grow sharper than normal, and his canines grow sharp as well.
⦁ Additionally, he also has developed a system of tough, vein-ish vessels for use in conjunction with his ability to produce a easily-manipulated bodily fluid; this allows him to expel chemicals and other mixtures to around 3 yards. Moreover, being exposed to such odors for so long has desensitized him to pungent and harmful scents.

Weaknesses/Limitations
⦁ The animal-attribute power also provides Booke with an array of negatives as well.

Personality
🔹 Aeira is a small, curious girl who is plagued by boredom. All of her actions stem from being bored. For example, she could purposely let herself be kidnapped because the alternative wouldn’t have been fun to her. There's an air of innocence and vulnerability around her. It's partially fake, but partially real.
She is friendly and polite in public, but in private she tends to be a tad more bitter and irritable.
As spoiled children do, she acts like a spoiled child. She pouts, crosses her arms, and stomps her feet whenever things don’t go in ways that are interesting to her.
One can often find her acting in overblown and grandiose fashion.
When she does find something interesting, however, she likes to preserve it and keep it close by. Especially people.
She's never had a true friend, but that doesn't stop her from trying to make them.
Aeira has an overwhelming fascination with vigilantes, especially those who eliminate their targets.
Coming up with elaborate, detailed stories about her, just for them to be revealed as blatant lies immediately after, is a hobby of hers.

Preferring to keep her true origin a secret, she plays up the persona of being an all-powerful vampiric patrician. So fast that her movements seem like a blur, strong enough to destroy the sturdiest buildings simply by walking near them, powerful enough to manipulate animals around her, having the ability to transform into mist to evade attacks, and subconsciously regenerating so fast that she can't even feel pain, she claims that she is so strong that it just isn't fair, so killing her opponents is a show of mercy for her. In her words, she may be weak against sunlight, but as long as some tiny bit of her remains, she can regenerate instantly. Aeira also likes to tell people that she is a child of Tepes, but nobody knows for sure if she means the Dracula himself.

Well, let it be known that all of this is a blatant lie. In short, she is a child without parents who ran away from her home.

🔹 Rui Ketsueiki
Aeira’s former headmaid, now her guardian (after the two of them had ran away to Azure City) who seeks out information about criminals. They are much like a duo. Rui is the brain who plans out every attack, and Aeira is the brawn who executes the plan.
For a long time she would refuse to leave the house without Rui by her side.
Aeira is often seen at places like cafés or museums with Rui. She cherishes all of these moments.
The one person that knows her full history and her identity.

Stealth, although she always blows her own cover on purpose.
Gymnastics and acrobatics. As a child she was often seen executing mid-air somersaults and cartwheels that rivaled the skill of her instructors. She was also seen doing things like headstands on just her fingers, the amount of fingers required reducing with age. She uses this skill as a source of income.

Fighting Style
🔹 Aeira's fighting style is based on using her agility to outmaneuver her opponent.
She doesn't hit hard, but she hits fast, focusing on either trying to trip up her opponent and take them down or finding quick ways to cut them.
Once she finds her opening, she doesn't let up. She does whatever she can to neutralize her opponent as quickly as possible.
She is a thrill seeker, always choosing to go in and fight someone up close rather than sneaking behind them.
The areas she focuses on hitting first are the muscles on the knees and elbows.
She excels in short fights, getting her damage in in quick, yet precise bursts.

Strengths
🔹 Aeira is extraordinarily agile, as a result of her power. She can perform acrobatic feats with balance and grace.
She is also able to twist and contort herself into many different positions that would be uncomfortable for an ordinary person.
These abilities give her parkour and free-running skills, making her more than capable of chasing somebody down.
Her small size can help her evade hits.
She has a high tolerance to pain.

Weaknesses
🔹 She is lacking physical strength.
When someone finds an opening on her they can do a lot of damage to her, due to her small size and weight.
Pain tolerance does not equal pain resistance. Getting hit will still damage her just as much as anybody else (obviously excluding those with more endurance because of a mutation).
If she is caught fighting without her weapon, she is basically dead. She has to run away if it ever comes to that.
In long fights where she is unable to find her opening, she will end up disadvantaged due to exhaustion from the nature of her fighting style.
Cannot fight armored opponents.

Equipment
🔹 An Emerson Black Super Karambit is her weapon of choice. She always keeps it hidden and tied in her hair.
While out as 'The Scarlet Devil,' she wears a pink mob cap and dress, with bright red trimming and a red ribbon on the back. She also wears a gold brooch in the middle of her chest. She also no longer hides her eye color.


A passive mutant power. Aeira possesses agility beyond that of peak human (and even mutant) levels.
Strengths
🔹 She can go from one motion to another effortlessly. This can be used to dodge attacks, swing from things easily, do flips, do far leaps, and numerous other gymnastic, implements with little to no effort.
Her tendons and connective tissue are more elastic than that of someone without this power.

Weaknesses/Limitations
🔹 Not requiring as much effort does not mean she cannot become tired. She can still run out of energy.
This power also does not mean she can survive long falls or crashes into walls without being damaged.
Over time she could do damage to her joints.

Neutral Good - Sheffield had taken up arms not just for the money, but for the purpose of defending his troubled home city. He stayed away from having to kill people, even if he will when truly pushed, and having actually killed someone made him realize he was a little too good at killing, or getting people killed. It made him feel resolved not to do it again.



Appearance



Sheffield is a young-looking man cutting a slender figure, as tall as 5’6” or so, muscles more on the lean but not-so-apparent side. He has short, oak brown hair at the roots that fade into burgundy tips just at his neck, as well as bright brown eyes.

He often wears a black field jacket, unzipped, sleeves rolled up before his elbows, and brown around the waist. Underneath it, he wears a red T-shirt with short sleeves, also wearing thin, dark brown gloves he procures from his jacket should there be rough work. For the lower body, he wears grey sweatpants, sneakers, and white socks.

Personality

Traits: Responsible, independent, considerate, and irascible.

Sheffield is not exactly a complicated character, being a simple caring person that is easy to rile up, be it because you are not taking care of yourself under his watch or you just insulted him. Even so, he is honest to himself, and open to others. Almost all the time at least.

Having been to other countries, lost his parents and spent time as a vigilante (though people thought he was more of an unofficial hero), he has been through quite a many things, ultimately preferring to help people in his little part of the world, but not everywhere.

Origin

Sheffield Dusk was born in America and lived there for three years with his older sister and parents before moving to China. His parents had an opportunity to make a deal with another movie-making company with the one they worked in at the time, changing their families nationalities including that of Sheffield’s and Dani’s. Henna, their baby sister, was born on Chinese soil.

In China, Sheffield lived for eleven more years, toughing it out in the schools and getting involved with shady organizations. But then an accident happened at the site of the meeting in which an angry mutant rioted and blew up the building Sheffield’s parents were in. Amongst the dead were his parents and several other people, while the culprit was on the run.

Grieving, orphaned, and unsure what to do now, the children went back to America to live with their uncle. It was there in the city that Sheffield requested training by his uncle, military-style, then testing those skills on petty criminals; he succeeded every time save for a few, drawing the attention of the Raiders of the Lost, a good-willed vigilante organization. He was certain to be a hero that would make sure something like his parents’ deaths would never happen again.

From fifteen to seventeen, Sheffield fought as a prominent vigilante in clandestine missions, as the lithe, secret agent-like, power-less Red Striker that ensured he captured his targets, all while attending the nearby high school. However, Betta Bill, a mutant with psychokinesis that had been on a murder spree, and related to the mutant that killed his parents, was the very last mutant he faced as the Striker.

Betta Bill was killed from a trap set up by a merciless Sheffield; he quickly found he did not relish deaths despite his comrades’ reassurances and praise, and he just killed the father of two, both of whom were sent to an orphanage. Sheffield visits the orphans every now and then, having bluntly told them the truth. The older sister, a teenager like Sheffield, did not take it too well; the much younger brother just cried and wondered what his “daddy did wrong”.

Now seventeen, bordering on eighteen, he moved to Azure City for a cliché new life; he plans on going to a college and take up work as a writer for a game studio. He has taken up residence in an apartment, working at a café named Rain’s Knell and a game studio named Wyldsine.

Of course, he does fight crime, but only when he chances upon it, and in his ordinary public persona, claiming he had training...

Notable Relations

Dani and Henna Dusk:
His sisters, Dani being 21 years old and Henna 11. The three siblings had lived together until their parents’ deaths. Sheffield stays in contact with them all the time.

Raiders of the Lost:
A small organization that had risen in America decades ago, one that Sheffield joined for vigilante work and equipment. He had enjoyed his time greatly there with the members, but he had a recent falling out with some of them who decided to work for a larger vigilante organization that believed too much in killing.
He still has contacts with the Raiders.

Cinnamon and Bailey Hailstride:
The siblings of the criminal mutant villain, Betta Bill. Sheffield has tense relations with Cinnamon, the older sister, but a surprisingly amiable one with Bailey, the younger brother. The two had recently run away, and Sheffield has no idea where they are.

Resources

Back then as a vigilante, he would gain money by capturing bounties, ultimately ending with his kill of Betta Bill that awarded him $100,000. He had made friendly connections to black markets and had the backing of the Raiders’ technology (which sadly did not include something like laser beams as they were not that advanced, but at least had elemental munitions).

Upon quitting, he moved into an apartment and planned on going to college. Whatever connections he had as the Striker were still maintained, albeit far fewer, but thankfully including the Raiders. For now, he took up work at a café and does voice acting or story-writing work for (video or board or otherwise) game companies every now and then. In summary, Sheffield has plenty of money to buy a house and a small armory, even though his income has gotten much lower than before.

Everyday Skills

Cooking - His cooking is top notch, although he is still learning for more recipes and styles, like French, Dutch, and Indonesian for instance.

Experience with Entertainment - His parents worked for an entertainment company that specialized in movies, including ones that involved mutant actors. Sheffield would at least know several good points to be in such a business.

Self-defense - He is trained and experienced in fighting, particularly non-lethally.

Repair - Above average, as demanded by how much equipment he had. Otherwise, he can fix planks, sew dolls back up, and get a generator working. Not on the level of a good engineer though.

Sociality - He used to work in a close-knit team for all his lack of powers, and is never above considering talking to a stranger an option.

Combat

Fighting Style

Sheffield’s tactics are based on what he prepares, what he has or is within his reach, and what kind of enemy he is up against, especially one he would never kill. But generally, he prefers to end fights as fast as he could, be it quietly or loudly. Ruthlessness and 100% completion is key to any quest of his.

He is well-versed in sword-fighting, bare-handed combat, gymnastics, chemistry (average actually) and shooting, and more importantly, is capable of processing a moment quickly and reaching a decision full of conviction.

Strengths

- His reflexes are more than enough to dodge bullets.
- He is a rather agile and limber fighter.
- He received military training from his veteran uncle, although it is incomplete.
- He has two years’ worth of experience from his time as the Red Striker, working in a team, or going solo, and retiring has not dulled his skills much.
- He has experience and talent with melee weapons and firearms.
- Knows the rule of “Imagination is a weapon. Those who lack it die first.”

Weaknesses

- He is still training himself to deflect bullets.
- He can rather impulsive.
- He is still human, and is at a natural disadvantage against mutants.
- He normally relies on equipment, which could mean trouble if he loses them.
- Practice time has gotten sparse for him between his jobs, so his skills are slightly dulled.

The Nanokatana (named as Dusty Edge by Sheffield) is a nano-like weapon developed by the Raiders’ scientists. It is completely grey in Inactive Mode, around thirty inches long, and would ripple and harden to show a slightly darker blade in Battle Mode.

It was formerly a katana made by a mutant blacksmith centuries ago, created from a tree-like mutant that had wood far stronger than steel, and was reinforced by mutant powers. Sheffield is the first to use it as part of a test, Dusty Edge being linked to Sheffield by a DNA lock.

At the moment it is wrapped in a black bag meant for bokutos (wooden Japanese swords).

Strengths:
- Sharp (can cut through titanium or alloys at least).
- Can be bench-pressed by three Jumbo jet airplanes.
- Does not need to be pulled out of a sheathe; can form a blade anywhere on it as it responds to the user’s mind.
- Can repair itself in the event it somehow breaks.
- Can camouflage itself and ‘stick’ to any surface through magnetism or secreting sap from its tree-like nature.
- Can absorb and insulate electricity.
- Can return by turning to dust instantly before reforming in the user’s hand.
- Being a non-metal and a ‘dead’ stick, it cannot be controlled by magnets or plant-based powers.
- Still has more functions Sheffield is trying to use, such as splitting off into two shorter blades.
Weaknesses:
- Only has the reach of a katana in melee range.
- Default shape is always a katana, and cannot transform into anything else other than a bar of metal.
- Can actually be broken. In this state, the katana will ‘lose power’, stay in Inactive Mode, and can be broken more easily. Once it regains power, it will draw all of its lost parts together, although they cannot come together if constantly separated.
- Being made of a special wood, forcing it to disperse if hit by too much fire.
- Full reformation time: Normally ten minutes. Repair time: Depending on damage inflicted, usually in minutes.
- Requires special equipment for modifications. Even then, it would require material similar to that of the tree mutant it was made from.

Other equipment: A Kar98k rifle (he has a gun license), a BB handgun, a plastic handgun with plastic bullets, knives, daggers, frying pans, armor and cloth protection reminiscent of military wares, a gas mask, various bombs and concoctions that induce stink, itching, and more, and a motorcycle (he got his driving license last year), etc..

Power

Being just a combat-effective human, Sheffield has no actual mutant powers.
