Birthplace: Marram Marshes
Residence: Chief Hermetic Scribe Quarters - the Manuscriptorium
Gender: Male
Education: Alchemie Tutoring, Scribe Training
Position: Chief Hermetic Scribe
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Appearance
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 162lbs/11st 8lbs
Build: Average, lean.
Eyes: Icy Blue
Hair: Black
Skin Tone: Pale
Tattoos/Scars/Piercings: Due to a rare skin condition, his entire body is covered in warped, scarred looking tissue.
Personal Style: When Marcellus is in a situation where he even has the chance to be seen by others, he covers every possible inch of skin possible. Others tend to have very poor reaction to seeing his deformity, so he keeps it under wraps. As a man who honors tradition, he is almost always seen wearing hooded dark blue robes of the scribes in as standard a way possible (usually with the hood up). However, he doesn't leave it at just the robe. Around his midsection he wears a belt that contains two notable, but hidden items: a baselard dagger and a pistol in a holster.
Over the robe and the belt, Marcellus wears a dark blue houppelande (long outerwear robe. Think of something like a graduation gown) either made of thick wool during the winter, or alchemically treated linen in the summer (enhanced to breathe better and keep cool). On his hands are well used, but sturdy leather gloves, and uncharacteristically, his feet are housed in tough steel toe boots. However, the most characteristic piece of clothing Marcellus wears is the mask that covers his entire face, usually leaving only his eyes and the immediately surrounding area to be the only parts of his body seen by others.
Psychology
Patient * Ego * Disciplined * Grudge-Holder * Orderly * Strict
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Relationship Status: N/A
Personality: Dumont's personality is most clearly demonstrated through his domain of influence: The Manuscriptorium itself. Since gaining control of it from his inept, corrupt predecessor, Dumont radically restructured the entire organization from the ground up. First he started by removing the entirety of the senior faculty, only rehiring the ones he felt were actually capable of the job. Nowadays, the organization is the picture of efficiency. Everyone from the lowest junior clerk to the oldest Inspector clerks follow procedure to a T. Every book is drawn and placed exactly where it is determined in the filing system he created specifically for their exclusive use.
And in those halls, Dumont has power transcending what is normally wielded by the Chief Hermetic Clerk. Although his formal list of powers has not changed a bit since first taking up the position, his mere presence makes his subordinates sit up straighter and pay him attention. On the rare occasions that he speaks, his words fall with authority, as if every utterance became Law. Failure is tolerated to an extent, but insubordination is not. But above all else, the wellbeing of the Castle is stressed above all else. The Manuscriptorium controls the Castle's information, and if they were to be lax in their duties, they could lead to its very destruction through negligence.

History
Your Path: Marcellus' reasons for joining the Manuscriptorium were initially based purely in need. Still considered a kid, and alone to fend and feed for himself, he needed to find some way of staying off the streets. Being the sharp kid that he was, the three most obvious answers were the Wizard Tower, becoming an Alchemist's apprentice, or becoming a scribe. His mother had conditioned him to view Wizards as a close-minded cowardly lot, so trying to do anything concerning them would be a last resort.
He certainly possessed the knowledge and skillset to try making it as an alchemist; however, even though he liked alchemie to a degree, he didn't want to resign himself to walking in his family's footsteps. Such a linear lifepath was beneath him. On top of all this, becoming a scribe was the least exclusive option of the three, making it the safest as far as trying to get bread on the table.
After working his way up from a Junior Clerk to Inspection Clerk over the years through hard work, cunning and luck he saw he predecessor banished from the Castle due to abuse of power. The ritual for selecting the next Chief Hermetic Clerk proceeded as usual, and his pen was chosen however that thing worked itself out. Since then, (roughly a decade or so) he's been in control of the entire Manuscriptorium.
General History: Marko Dumont never knew his father, and his mother never told him much about him. Apparently he was a Castle native, and he passed on his last name, but that was the extent of the information that was ever fed to him. However, his absence of a relationship with one parent was completely inverted with regards to his other guardian: Đurađa.
She had constructed a home for just the two of them out in the Marram Marshes. It wasn't the ideal place to raise a child, but it grew to have a certain charm to it. Throughout his childhood Đurađa would regale to her son a wide variety of stories: that of her homeland in the Eastern Snowplains, the grand Castle that stood proud outside of the marshes, and folk stories and fairy tales she had grown up being told. When asked why they lived in the Marshes rather than the wondrous castle she spoke at length about, she merely stated that they were behind the times and wouldn't take kindly to Marko's unique beauty.
Marko knew to stay outside of the laboratory where his mother conducted her experiments, but curiosity would occasionally get the better of him. Initially she reacted with fury and would berate him for endangering himself recklessly; he wasn't well enough to assist her in her work. However, as the years went by, she slowly allowed him to learn more and more of her trade. According to her, she was attempting to create what she described as "The Missing Седми Гем."
One night, when he was around 14 (they didn't celebrate birthdays, so his age is something of an estimate), he was roused from his slumber by a sudden explosion from the Lab. In a panic, he ran to the room, to find a massive hole where the Southern wall used to be, with a fire at its edges, slowly consuming the rest of the house. His mother's body lay motionless on the floor, half her skin blown off.
The foundation of his life had fallen out from underneath him, and in that moment, he was tempted to just stand there and let himself drown in despair as the fire took him with the rest of the house. But something drove him to act. It would not lie down and be snuffed out like a common moth. It told him to save whatever he could and get out. So he grabbed what he could of Đurađa's alchemie journals, the mask she had him wear on the rare trips they would take to the Castle, and a memento before he fled his old, burning, charming childhood home.
Now alone in the Marshes, Marko knew he needed to go somewhere with people. He wouldn't be able to survive in the Marshes as he was. Immediately the grandoise, proud Castle his mother had always told him about sprang to mind. Yes, there would be where he'd be able to live now. Once he had managed to find proper residence in the Castle, Marko discarded his old name, favoring a more familiar version of it for those residing within the castle walls. Now Marcellus, he spent much time pouring over the remains of Đurađa's work and thinking. From these thoughts sprang forth a plan. Now all that he needed was the means to enact it.
Thoughts on Queen Meliscente: Dumont knows that the Queen was murdered, and that it was done by Magykal means. There is no doubt in his mind that is the case. And he is also fairly certain how exactly the deed was carried out, although he lacks the physical proof to back up what is at the time, merely conjecture. Who exactly committed the crime is an unknown, but the perpetrator being a witch or foreigner of some sort seem like the most likely scenarios.

💞 Arya Rincewind 💞
"How time flies."
Marcellus has known Arya's mother Selesia for decades now, and she counts among the few that he would deign to call a friend. As such, he met Arya many times as she grew up. He wasn't well suited to dealing with children, but he did his best to treat her as best as he could when he did interact with her. Over time he developed a smidgen of affection for her, seeing her in the way one might their niece or nephew. He can't exactly say that he approves of her decision to become a wizard, but it seems to be working out for her. That new apprentice of hers on the other hand...
🌓 Myrus Silvers 🌓
"The overlooked Prince."
One might think Marcellus would relate to Myrus' orphanhood. They would be wrong. However, the prince's desire to go out and see the world provides the distant echo of what he used to be as a child. And that is what illicits the rare ounce of sympathy from him. Otherwise, he does not pay the prince any mind.
🌓 Luna Meredith 🌓
"A spurned Princess"
For many years Marcellus was certain Luna would become Queen once Meliscente passed or abdicated the throne, and he was sure that she would make a fine ruler, barring a sudden, jarring change in demeanor. She might not have been the greatest monarch to rule, but the chances that she would plunge the Castle into darkness seemed fairly low. But now, her apparent future had been stripped from her, and he worries how that could change her.
🙇 Valda 🙇
"Pretender of two Worlds"
Lightly speaking, Valda has no idea what she's doing. She does not belong in the Court. She is a witch. But she is the Queen now. And unless she threatens to permanently destroy the Castle either through malice or incompetence, he must support her. His plan originally had Meliscente or Luna on the Throne, Valda being the reigning Queen was an unforeseen circumstance, but not an unworkable one.
