I hope that you'll pardon a voice from the interested peanut gallery.

I found myself wondering whether the entrance of a "legendary beast" from territory "A" into territory "B" might rouse something that could have slept there for a long time, perhaps some kind of mythical beast that dwells beneath the fens? Perhaps a race... hmm... something oily with tentacles and a penchant for fire?

Just a thought. I'd build something myself but... I'm already overcommitted.

Sure, it's clearly implied. Might be a bit much for the current scene but might be a possibility later on. Come join us! even if it's a one off post no harm in practicing writing.

Thinking about jumping in as an dictorial like last remaining Dragon Lord type king character, who coincidentally has the last living dragon as a mount. Was inspired by this pic.

Edit: His name would be Caedmon Ordmaer, his titles Lord of The Draetor Empire and the Last Dragon Lord of House Ordmaer. I had an idea in mind for him to be a antagonist in this RP.

Draetor would be an empire in the frigid lands of Vrommathan far to the north of Erlad, beyond a massive and mostly impassable mountain chain called the Teeth of Sorrow. The Draetor Empire itself would consist of seven large cities surrounded by small outlying towns and village's, which would in turn be ruled over by seven houses, with House Ordmaer and their city of Folgård being the most powerful and well defended of them all, thus making their members the leader's of the entire empire by default.

As for the currency, they use a variety of metal coins each engraved with the image of the House member currently in charge of the Empire, in this case the visage of Emporer Caedmon of House Ordmaer. And their language both written and spoken is similar to real world ancient Norse/Scandinavian.

In ancient times, each house had a series of dragons that they used in and out of battle as mounts, but due to a period of in fighting within the Empire, then kingdom, and a mysterious plague that killed off most of dragon kind, only House Ordmaer has managed to retain a dragon mount.

Also, a brief note on the House's, in modern times they opporate more like organisations or guilds, taking in those who pass their trials or those they deem worthy. In the distant past however, when Draetor was still a kingdom and dragon kind hadn't been decimated, the House's were controlled by members of the families that originally founded them and someone outside of a particular House's bloodline was not, no matter what they did, allowed to join. Obviously this rule, along with many other societal issue's of the time, is what led to the infighting later on, which in turn helped contribute to the extinction of dragon kind and secured House Ordmaer's rise to power.

I'm not the GM, but I think a dragon-rider might be a bit much for the scene as well, @ZAVAZggg- it's a similar sort of 'holy shit' level as a giant tentacle monster, haha. He sounds dope as hell though.

Oh I'd keep him as a force behind the scenes. He won't just go riding down into a swamp on the back of a dragon. Maybe make him the one who hired the mercs you're running from...

He'd have good reasons for hiring a mercenary army instead of using his own troops too. After all, life isn't easy in the north...and the south is rich with resources...

Resources that his people could desperately use. Resources that are worth attacking a city and establishing a foothold for.

Mago, Maren's brother, is the one who hired the Karsusians though?

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. Though Caedmon could have used him as a middle man. Given him the funds to create an army and take lands in the south that would then be given over to the Draetor Empire when they invade.

Just an idea of course.

Heh, you have a point there. This scene is already very busy. However, it would be a fascinating way to foreshadow a later development to have a slithering shadow suddenly surge from the fens just long enough to engulf the giant boar and disappear. The human presence wouldn't have been what disturbed it, after all. Maybe... a little something smaller...

So you have some great ideas but in the spirit of collaboration, creating a character with an entire Empire at his beck and call is a bit OP. And he has a dragon. I don't care what you decide to do. Just don't God-Mod or derail the RP or disregard what other players have already written :)

@Polybius

I'm kinda curious, what sort of magic would be in this verse? I mean I suppose boar big enough to ride on and larger is magical, but in terms of personal spells and such? I was actually planning on Malakaus to know a few spells, granted they aren't anything very fancy or flashy. But he does know them.

I'm thinking more Game of Thrones and less D&D . Like I mentioned in the first post, there are no fireball slinging wizards. Towns don't feature a 'local wizard' or anything of that sort. Magic is mysterious, powerful and rare. Very, very few people are spellcasters.

Having said all this. I'm thinking I might need to write up some more formal rules to keep the anarchy at bay

I won't. And as I said, he'd be more of a background threat. If others should decide to gather armies and declare war, then he'll be in the spotlight. But he ain't showing up in the first scene as there's no logical reason for him to be there.

Edit: Also, let me know if any of the lore I wrote contradicts anything anyone else has already written.

How dare you suggest we not let anarchy reign supreme?

Thanks man! And hey, maybe there are other storylines that you could develop too? The world is barely fleshed out and there are many questions to be answered.

Also, if anyone has any idea's for fleshing out the governmental system of the Draetor Empire, then let me know as designing every detail of government isn't really my strong suit.

Came up with a bounty hunter type character that would fit in well with the current scene. His real name is Dorian, but the name he goes by now is Reaper.

His armor sirs and madams.

and what he actually looks like underneath.

Couldn't get a face claim for this unfortunately. I had an idea in mind where he's an elite member of a widespread and highly respected group of bounty hunters called the Blood Reavers. And no he wouldn't use them for backup as he likes to work alone. So what do you think? He's in the city going after a target who's needs to be brought back dead or alive and he ends up getting involved with the events of the siege.

Hmm hmm. I’ll be honest I don’t really know the GoT verse enough to know what their magic system is like, but I suppose I have an idea. And as I said the magic I had in mind isn’t exactly fireball throwing, parlor tricks really. Should I just detail them for you to judge or would it be better if no one had magic?

@Lucius Cypher I don't know how else to describe low-magic beyond what I've detailed in the first post. Try this definition from Wikipedia.

"A soft magic system is vague and undefined with a mysterious list of rules and limitations that is never explained.[4] It creates a sense of awe and deepens the fantastical setting.[5] The focus of these types of stories is not usually on the magic itself and the main character usually isn't a magic user.[1] The main conflict is not solved by magic; instead, it's solved by valuable lessons the main character learns throughout the course of the story. Often when magic is used to solve a problem, it will actually make the problem worse. In these types of stories, the reader is never certain of the dangers and wonders that the characters will encounter and the characters themselves never truly know what can and can't happen"

I would say the orcs have pretty much scattered and defeated the Karsusians. @Zaphander
