Damn, I think I have a similar idea that would now seem less original :p
Edit: Hmm, then again maybe demons in humans is part of the universe. It gets reinforced by more than one character having it.
So, my idea is that my character puts on a bracelet which contains a demon. When he puts it on, the demon fuses with the character's soul, and they begin having a symbiotic relationship. They keep each other alive. If they somehow get separated, they would both die.
The demon would provide the kid with specific powers, and the kid would keep the demon alive. There is a pact price too, of course. Since the kid was dying from an illness, this kind of cures him, but forever binds him to a demon who hangs around. Forever. The pact price is the kid's time, which takes away his ability to age, cause' the demon don't want to die. Aka, they keep each other alive.

Birth Date August 18th, 1992 --------
Lincoln has lost the ability to return his appearance to that of his old human self due to decades of dealing with his 'affliction' or 'gift' depending upon how one chooses to view his abilities. As such, he is forever trapped in different forms of machinery, though does tend to maintain the above form more often than not.
Typically, the Texas Star is the closest symbol of Lincoln, a memory of his lost State. It is worn on the shoulders of the militia that follows him as well; The Texas Rangers.
Personality: Once a man of supreme and unrelenting rage who struck out against the establishment that he viewed as oppressing his people, Lincoln has grown to become significantly more even-tempered and steely under pressure, much as his own body was consumed entirely over time by metal. Much of that same rage still exists though, directed towards the forces of Chaos that have stolen his home from him.
Beyond that, Lincoln has grown to understand empathy and kindness better, and is particularly concerned with protecting, educating, and training the next generation. If there will be one.
Super Abilities
Powers Living Metal: Lincoln can modify the metal of his body at will, such as to make his arm take on the shape of a shield or a laser rifle. The primary constraint on this is that he must still obey the Law of Conservation of Mass and Energy, and the transformation process itself uses energy. Lincoln draws most of his energy from a miniature fusion reactor usually nestled within his chest, supplied with elements such as hydrogen from electrolyzed water.
Furthermore, Lincoln can meld new metal to his body and increase its mass. This, combined with his mechanized mind, allow him to aggressively hack into computer systems as well if he can make physical contact with them. Finally, by adding material to his body and then shaping it and releasing the material from his body, Lincoln is able to construct useful items for those around him such as laser rifles and railguns. The most important element in doing this is understanding the science and technology behind such items, thus he is often studying scientific advances for ideas.
Skills Marksmanship "Electric eyes and a metal body make me an unfair shot."
Brutal Hand-To-Hand Combat "Yeah, I know some martial arts. That doesn't matter as much as the ability to punch hard enough to send a car flying, though."
Metal Man "Humans are weak, squishy creatures. Your muscles are only so strong, your bones unable to handle heavy weights. That's why I'm faster and stronger than you. Bigger sizes become slower though, more mass to move and all."
Technologically Savvy "Got to know yourself, you know?"
Gadgets Varies, all technological-based.
Weapons Varies, all technological-based.
Civilian Occupation Without the ability to 'return' to an apparently human form or hide his appearance, Living Metal is effectively on duty 24/7.
Biography
Lincoln was born before the troubled times of the modern world, the third son of a single mother who first got pregnant at the age of fifteen. By the time of his birth, his mother was nineteen, and their family lived in the projects of Dallas, Texas. He never met his father, supposedly the man was a piece of shit rotting in a jail somewhere, according to his mother. But his mother wasn't much better either, routinely struggling with heroin, meth, and crack addictions. Lincoln can distinctly recall standing over his mother at the age of four, her lying motionless on the ground as he pushed her, trying to get her to feed him.
Instead of their mother, Lincoln and his brothers, Abraham and Marcus, had to rely upon each other instead. By the time he was nine, Lincoln was selling weed and other drugs just to afford food as part of a local gang. Unfortunately, two years later, Lincoln's life was shattered further.
One day while the brothers were standing together outside their home, Lincoln just twelve, going about their usual business of distributing illegal drugs, another gang rode up on them suddenly. Before they realized it, bullets were flying in their direction, Lincoln and Abraham had jumped through a window into their home, and Marcus was somewhere else, returning fire. Abraham hadn't noticed it immediately, but he was bleeding from the abdomen.
Lincoln did notice it though, and flew into a rage, storming back to his room, grabbing his own glock, and coming back to the window, firing wildly at their enemy as Abraham laid on the ground trying to stem the bleeding. It wasn't long until the police stormed the area, resulting in a three-way firefight that felt like eternity.
It was as Lincoln ran out of ammo and sent his last bullet hurtling towards a police cruiser that the first shattering occurred: his brother Marcus advanced towards the officers and ended up riddled with bullets. As his brother's body fell to the ground, Lincoln felt his heart seize up as he himself fell to the floor of their home, bullets still peircing the walls.
Next to him, Abraham reached out for Lincoln's hand. The floor was covered in Abraham's blood, and his breath was more like a series of gasps. He died there that day as well, clutching his brother's hands before the police managed to get control of the situation. Lincoln surrendered, having run out of ammo, and was jailed promptly. His sentence was swift: forty years starting in juvie followed by prison. Lincoln had killed both a police officer and a rival gang member during the firefight, it was determined.
Lincoln struggled in juvenile detention for three years until one day while he leaning against the metal frame of the window of his isolated cell, the metal fused to his body. At first he panicked before realizing at the age of fifteen in 2007 that he was a metahuman, a member of that unusual group of people that the news covered more and more. That night Lincoln didn't sleep, choosing instead to practice manipulating the metal that had become part of his body. In the morning before roll call, he made his escape, ripping the window from its place and then climbing down a few stories by using his metal-covered arms to create handholds in the concrete.
The guards became aware of his escape attempt as he shattered the fences between him and freedom, and began opening fire on him when they realized he was a metahuman. He managed to shield himself from most of the bullets, but just as Lincoln was about to be free, a bullet shredded his right calf just as he made it to the main gate. In desperation, he slapped his hands against the gate and absorbed enough metal to cover his body to the point that the remaining bullets simply pinged off. From there, Lincoln slowly walked to a cruiser and stole it, leading the police on a chase that ended with his disappearance into the sewers of Dallas and numerous dead officers and bystanders. Living Metal, one of the world's first supervillains, was born.
Through studies of his body and science fiction as well as modern day science, Living Metal used his super power to crack the secret of nuclear fusion to supply his body with energy, and over time, his biological body was more and more replaced by metal and electronics until even his human brain ceased to exist. He wreaked havoc upon the USA for years, leading a band of criminals known as Metalmen that used weapons and armors made by him, amassing great wealth and power while essentially declaring war against a government he saw as oppressive and tyrannical to the downtrodden.
Finally though, Living Metal was defeated by the Champion, the unusual crystal that constituted his 'brain' ripped cleanly out and stored inside a carbon fiber-reinforced glass box inside the highest security prison the USA had access to. Unable to break the box due to lack of energy, Lincoln could do little more than be patient, speak to the guards, watch the news on a small television provided to him, and contemplate his actions. Unable to sleep, there was nothing else to do to pass the time.
With the passing of time and the further emergence of more metahumans as well as the unravelling of the world, the government of what remained of the USA came to him with a proposition: fight against the forces of evil to help reclaim Living Metal's lost home, and he would be allowed freedom. In their mind, the Champion could always put him down once more if necessary.
Freed with conditions, Living Metal immediately went to the border with the Shattered Scar and began assembling soldiers beneath him, many of them refugees from Texas that decided to take on the name of the old Texas Rangers. To this day, they fight the darkness tooth and nail, a tenuous peace held between the United States and Living Metal.
Nemesis Living Metal's most likely Nemesis is probably the Champion, as Lincoln is still angry that he lost and was imprisoned for years because of them.
Allies The Texas Rangers, a militia of common men and women motivated by the loss of their homes and Living Metal's own charisma, they use weapons derived from his technological prowess to fight the darkness that encroaches upon humanity.
Magic users be gay, here's a monster hunter that may or may not owe most of his personality to Dante.
"We got a job, eh? Well, those pizzas and trumpet lessons ain't gonna pay for themselves." -----Basic Information----- Alias: N/A Name: David O'Rinn Origin City: Seward, Nebraska ("Not like it matters much anymore, place was swallowed up by the Scar a while ago.") Hometown: Hub City, Illinois ("Home, sweet home. High population density, soaring crime rate, and technically under martial law. I love it.") Sex: Male Age: 26 Birth Date: September 24th, 1994
-----Analysis-----
Race: Human (Caucasian) Height: 5'11 Weight: 171 pounds Costumed Appearance: N/A Civilian Appearance: David stands at an average height of 5'11, with an athletic build that compromises between strength and agility. His fair skinned face is rough and houses a beard, a sign of his fearsome occupation, and he has short brown hair and similarly brown eyes. He has an assortment of scars throughout his body, the most notable being one across his forehead he got during his first year as a hunter. In terms of clothing, more often than not David finds himself wearing a brown leather jacket over a plain grey t-shirt, brown cargo pants, and black steel-toed boots. Icon: A stylized revolver chamber, the logo of his shop. Costumed Personality: N/A Civilian Personality: "Phew. You look like you just got your ass handed to ya." To hear of David's past, one probably expects him to be all broody and angry about everything. Then you see him using his sword as an air guitar after cutting off an imp's head with it. That's when you realize what kind of person David is. To put it simply, David is a bombastic guy with a flair for the theatrical trying to have the time of his life. Though he's not stupid, most might think he is due to how he acts. He can't take himself or the world around him seriously to save his life, and when he does stop goofing around it's usually a sign that shit just got real.
That isn't to say that that's all there is to David. He hides it well beneath his goofy facade, but he's rather depressed due to the disappearance of his father, death of his mother, and the destruction of his home town. He also has quite a vicious streak, prone to toying with and taunting his enemies and then violently dispatching them once he's gotten bored. The parts hidden beneath his surface aren't all bad, however; he has a strong sense of justice, seeking to defend the weak, and he cares for his friends as though they're his family. Civilian Occupation: Business owner, monster hunter, occasional gambler, trumpeter when all else fails ("What can I say? I'm a renaissance man.")
-Powers: Enchantments David doesn't have any magical abilities; however, he does know a wizard or two, and they agreed to enchant his weapons for him. His main weapons are blessed with elemental properties and are hardened to be nigh unbreakable. His guns pack a little something extra as well, a simple rune carved into their action along with one sewn into the inside of David's coat. The gist of it is that as long as David has the appropriate ammunition held in his coat, he is able to keep firing without having to reload, the bullets appearing in the chamber as the gun is about to fire.
-Gadgets: The Desperado - A camper van that David bought early in his career. It's been decked out in armor, with his and Leo's shop's logo painted in black on the side. Used for long hauls where they might be away from home for anywhere from a few days to weeks. David also jokingly refers to it by other names, most notably the "Mystery Machine".
The Highwayman - A beautiful dealer of death that Dave and Leo have been fixing up. Currently hidden under a tarp in their garage. When it's done, they'll be using it for ramming right into crowds full of abominations and cultists.
-Weapons:
Standard Gear
"The Wiffle Bat" - A one-handed longsword made of steel, with a rather ornate design and runes carved into the blade. Gifted to David by the witch who enchanted his weaponry, it has since stayed in a scabbard on his back. To pack more of a punch, it is enchanted with elemental properties: more specifically, lightning.
"Frost and Flame" - A pair of Glock 17s, one blue and the other red. The first weapons David bought, they are on his person at all times, carried in holsters on his hips. Like the Wiffle Bat, they are enchanted with elemental properties: Frost fires bullets imbued with ice, Flame with fire.
"Backscratcher" - A combat knife. Carried in a sheath on David's left boot. Also enchanted with elemental properties: in this case, nature.
Grenades - Nothing special here. Just a shitload of regular grenades. What? Anything will get messed up by an explosion.
Expanded Gear
Shotgun - A simple shotgun, more specifically a stockless Remington 870. Not enchanted, but a buckshot's capable of stopping even the most stubborn of monsters in their tracks.
Submachine Gun - A simple SMG, more specifically an MP5. Not enchanted, but a stream of bullets can put down the weaker monsters and irritate the stronger ones.
Assault Rifle - A simple assault rifle, more specifically an AR-15. Not enchanted, but it packs high power and shoots fast; just how Dave likes his guns.
-----Biography-----
Character History/Origin: David was born to a rather normal family in a small Nebraskan town, though his father was always rather... Odd. He firmly believed in the occult, spending a good chunk of his free time with some weird guys that were into shady stuff. Mostly these shady people consisted of people calling themselves the "Blackroot Coven." Despite this odd attraction, his father loved his wife and son, and always tried to be there for David.
But as the years went by, it became increasingly obvious that his father's interest became an obsession. When David was 14, his father simply disappeared, never to be seen again. David still ponders what happened to him, but considering the people his father associated with and what happened in the following year, David has a pretty good idea.
When the Blackroot Coven tore open the veil and let loose their army of hellspawn and abominations, David was 15. His life fell apart rapidly, his town being destroyed, his mother dying, and all he ever knew being gone forever. Part of him wanted to just give up right there and die, but he had to survive, if only because his mother would want him to. And so, he made his way east, to try and escape the growing expanse of chaos that would later be known as the Shattered Scar.
East he made it, to a refugee camp in Hub City. From there, David had a choice to make: attempt to lead a normal life, or take a stand against this type of injustice. Instead of attempting to pick up the pieces of his life like so many others were doing, David took the latter option. He got a job at a local diner, working days and training in his off time. It started out small, working out in the mornings and evenings, and soon escalated to learning martial arts, then sword fighting, and finally marksmanship.
David trained himself for three years, and when he was 18, he thought he was ready. So he quit his job, used the last of his savings to buy a large van, got his weapons, and started leaving the city to fight monsters. His first year on the job was brutal; he nearly died hundreds of times, and has more than his fair share of scars to prove it. It was clear he had no idea what he was doing, but that didn't stop him, and through sheer luck and force of willpower David lived to see his 19th birthday.
But one thing that David came to realize is that having to constantly replace every sword and knife you busted on a demon's skull was expensive and tedious. Plus, his equipment barely scratched the monsters anyway. That was when Mama came in. She was an old witch, with a vast knowledge of the arcane. She gifted him with an enchanted sword, and enchanted his other weapons as well, seemingly out of charity.
The rest of his early twenties were mostly a blur of relaxing by day, fighting monsters by night. During this time, he met his close friend Leo Cash, a fellow monster hunter trying to get by. The two formed their own team and business, the Outlaws (or, half jokingly and half officially, the Outlaws Supernatural Consultative Services), setting up shop in a used warehouse in the slums of Hub City. Business was slow at first, but after they met a man named Ted who became their handler, everything was smooth sailing.
And now, David is 26, and it's been about eleven years since the Veil was breached and the world became the way it was. Back then, it seemed so hopeless. He was nothing but an angry boy intent on making the Blackroot Coven pay for their wrongdoings. These days? He's just having fun with his best bro, kicking ass and taking names, while making time for his true passion: playing the trumpet.
David is left-handed. David's favorite color is yellow. As much as he loves pizza, his favorite food is actually blueberry pie because his mother made it a lot when he was a kid. Believe it or not, David's a rather competent cook. He just prefers eating out rather than making something at home.
-----Important People-----
Nemesis: Whatever monster he's trying to kill. Allies: Leo Cash - David's partner in crime/best friend/brother from another mother. The two met five years ago and have been strong friends since. Mama - An old witch that enchanted Dave's weaponry for him. He doesn't know her name. A pretty enigmatic sort. Ted - A rather mysterious guy who helped get Dave and Leo's shop on the right track when they first established it. He's sort of their handler, sort of their mission control, but either way he's sort of on the team. Team: The Outlaws/Outlaws Supernatural Consultative Services - Dave and Leo's monster hunting team. Currently consists of just them and Ted.
"Using a bow is NOT impractical. You just need the right type of arrow." -----Basic Information----- Alias: Arsenal Civilian Name: Leonardo "Leo" Cash Origin City: Star City, California Hometown: Hub City, Illinois Sex: Male Race: Human (Caucasian) Height: 6 feet Weight: 180 pounds Age: 26 Birth Date: August 5th 1994
--------
Appearance: Leo is a more-or-less lean man, standing at 6 feet, with pale skin and short-cut auburn hair. His face is that of a serious one, sporting a beard of stubble. Personality: "Bro, I'm starving. We should hit up some pizza." A generally affable guy, Leo has a nice personality. He's pretty friendly, and has a great sense of humor. He tends to get very focused on one thing, so he might seem distant, but not so. When he's working, he usually taunts the enemy and goads them into making a mistake (if he's not dealing death from a distance, that is). If things get serious, though, he does too, giving off an intense aura. Leo was a hurt, angry being for a long time. During his time in the military, letting off some steam with demon-killing and among fellow peers who shared his experience in some way, he mellowed out a bit. After becoming Arsenal and meeting Dave, his overall mood has improved.

-----Biography-----
Character History/Origin: Leonardo "Leo" Cash was born to a moderately wealthy couple in Star City, California. He was a very gifted child, with a keen mind and a knack for tinkering. He got high marks in his schooling (moreso in metal shop, wood shop, electronics, etc), placing him in the honor roll. He even participated in after-school programs, including an Archery club which he was exceptionally good at. He was on the path to be Valedictorian... When it happened.
He was 16 when Demons, Monsters, and all sorts of evil things started pouring out of these portals. Everyone had to evacuate to the east, and his family could not have been farther away. Nobody could even purchase a plane in time before the demons took over, so everyone just drove away as fast as they could, leaving almost everything behind. Leo and his family were just passing Salt Lake City as the sun began to set when they were attacked by demons, crashing the car. His mother told him to run as the demons grabbed her and his father. So he ran into the forest, not looking back even when his parents screamed, or when they stopped.
He ran deep through the forest, trying to get away from the demons. When looking back to see if they were still chasing him, he tripped over a exposed root, sending him to the ground. He tried getting up, but was so tired from the running that his vision had gone blurry, on the verge of passing out. It looked like the trees were moving before he fell unconcious. When he woke up the next morning, there was a small path of oddly colored leaves winding through the forest. He decided to follow it, walking through the forest for another day, before he exited the trees. He was found by a squad of US soldiers, stumbling out of the treeline and practically collapsing right there.
From that point, Leo was moved with a large refugee convoy, protected by the military. He used the time to grieve, and think about what to do next. He couldn't just run to safety and let the demons win. So after the refugees made it to Hub City, he attempted to join the military, fight back against the demons. Too young and too weak, though. At the time, the army recruiters must have seen the hate and pain in his eyes, and waved him off as some kid who would sign up out of impulse but not have the will to go all the way. Well, after training his body for another year, he came back, passing the physical exams and enlisting at 17. He was determined.
He made it through boot camp, his marksmanship scores perfect, combat scores and obstacle course time well above average, and his survival skills on-par. After serving for a year, making regular patrols throughout the border area of The Scar. But this wasn't enough. They'd kill an occasional demon, but Leo wanted to play a more offensive role. So, when he was 18, he applied to be a Ranger, training in Ranger School for another few weeks, mostly honing his combat and survival skills, training to go behind enemy demon lines. Passing with distinction, he served with the Rangers for the next two years, going deep into enemy territory.
At some point, during a scouting mission through the Kansas-Missouri border area, he met Velocity. Together, they helped defend the twin cities of Keystone and Central from monster attacks, striking a few key Blackroot Coven camps, and generally just hanging out together during what little downtime they had for a few months. Leo was called back, and after saying his goodbyes, left the area. He hasn't seen or heard from her since, but he's heard of her exploits. It's hard to communicate through the Scar.
One day, after a particular event involving compromising an operation to save a few civilians, he was dishonorably discharged from the army. He went back to Hub City, doomed to be another unemployed refugee. No, he wasn't done yet. He was going back out there, one way or another. Using the money he earned from the army, he purchased a bow, two pistols, and all the neccessary materials to start his operation. He also decided to buy a camcorder, to document his encounters if worse came to worse, but keepong his identity hidden behind a shoddy mask. Ready, he headed out on his first expedition, sneaking past the military patrols and into the Scar. He did some damage, killing any demon in his way, and returned relatively unscathed. He uploaded the footage to the internet, openly, just to be safe if it was ever lost. Within the day, he'd gotten millions of hits, shared across all forms of social media. Granted, the next day it was removed in all forms by the US Government, but Leo had already found his calling. People admired and praised him and his actions. So, donning the name "Arsenal", he continued with his crusade, creating his own site for which to stream his exploits and where people could donate to the cause.
Around this time, he met fellow monster hunter David O'Rinn, becoming fast friends due to their common upbringing. When Leo was 22, he and Dave Co-founded the Outlaws, both chipping in for a warehouse in the slums of Hub City. Over the next few years, they battled all sorts of monsters, and meeting pretty extraordinary people.
Leo, now 26, has now built up the Outlaws to be a respectable and widely known monster hunting group.
Being from Star City, Leo speaks in a "Californian" dialect.
He's also ambidextrous: No angle is safe.
His feelings are probably not being dealt with correctly.
----------
Nemesis: Monsters of all shapes and sizes, as well as the cultists among them. Allies: David O'Rinn - Leo's best friend and business partner. They met 5 years ago, not too long after the discharge. Ted - The Outlaws' manager/wise sage. Showed up when the Outlaws were first getting started. Currently finds paying gigs for the group and teaches Leo to use Runes. Velocity - One of the Seven Wonders, the speedster who originally helped defend against the cult during the beginning. The two of them spent some time together years ago. Team: The Outlaws/Outlaw Supernatural Consultative Services - The Monster Hunting group Dave and Leo co-founded.
Hey, this seems interesting and caught my attention at a time I was looking for a comic book-based universe roleplay to participate in.
I wanted to ask though, would probability manipulation as a power be acceptable? I don't intend for it to be usable on any humanoid beings directly (If they can learn how to talk, they cant be affected), but rather only inanimate object and many types of animals.
If there is any issue with the power to begin with, I understand. I have a bunch of ideas in mind, but this was just the first one I wished to try and ask about.
@Shard So, a question. Are you saying that your sword can ignore invulnerability for beings like Champion or beings with similar durability?
Also, "Holy Magic" isn't really a thing here, so him being weak to holy ground and other stuff doesn't make sense for the setting. Otherwise, it looks good!
