Bwam, posted. I lost the whole post last night due to unforeseen circumstances, so this is the shorter version two. I can only apologize that you'll never see the greatness that was v1.
Also let me know if I'm coming on too strong with Daiji's tiny mountain town accent.
Appearance: At 6' with an average but tightly well-muscled build, short very dark hair and hazel eyes, Kazuo is half Japanese, half Russian. The young man opts to wear simple dress clothes; a white button-up, black vest, tie, boots and pants. Kazuo also has a couple of overcoats for varying weather conditions. For more strenuous activities, Kazuo goes for a black double breasted military jacket over a white tee shirt, more athletic pants and black combat boots.
Personality: Kazuo does his best to maintain a polite and friendly mask to cover up his more ruthless intellectual side. Despite the emotional void his jaded worldview has left him with, Kazou still has heart. His father instilled a strong sense of justice into him and as such, Kazuo has no patience for bullies or anyone else who abuses power to exploit those weaker than them.
Backstory: Kazuo's parents met while doing humanitarian work for the U.N., his mother, Hoshi Hayakawa, a doctor and his father, Alexander Aleinikov, a marine escort. When they had Kazuo, they moved to his father's hometown in Russia, Alexander getting a job with the local police and Hoshi continuing to work as a doctor in a nearby hospital. Both of them aiming to continue their work in service to others while still raising a kid.
Everything went well for years, but Alexander was ultimately too good at his job. Eventually, he managed to take down a major member of the Russian Mafia. Two weeks later, Alexander was killed in a car accident and Hoshi who was riding in the passenger seat was badly injured. Kazuo was 12 at the time. At the funeral, Alexander's partner from the force quietly pulled Kazuo aside and told him what he had suspected to be the truth; the "accident" had been a hit by the Russian Mafia.
Once Hoshi recovered enough to travel, she went back to Japan with Kazuo and moved in with her grandparents. The hole Alexander's death left in Kazuo's life was patched over with a harsh understanding of the world. That with enough power, be it physical, social or economic, the rules of the world mean nothing. And while his father had meant well, his insistence on playing by the rules is what got him killed. If Kazuo ever wanted avenge his father's death or continue in his footsteps, he'd need power; and what beter place to start than one of the top combat schools?
Inherent Engine Skill:Wings kazou's IE generates a pair of avian wings out of his upper back. At full extension, they give him a seventeen foot wingspan. Aside from the obvious power of flight, they can also serve to block incoming attacks or cushion Kazou's impact into something. That said, they can only take a couple of solid hits or several minor ones before the energy matrix forming them collapses. If destroyed, the wings take about an hour's recharge before they can be formed again.
Active Engine Device:
A modern take on the classic Mage Revolver. Capable of some basic form-shifting, the Mage Gun carries a total of six "spell rounds" that can be swapped out as needed depending on the situation. While each of the rounds are individually weaker than an AE purpose built for the specific role, the Mage Gun makes up for this by being able to rapidly switch between loaded rounds and the staggering versatility of it's arsenal. Kazuo generally has his gun loaded with the following. - Bolt: Bolt fires high-speed a pulse of super-condensed mana like bullet. An optional sub-setting extends a stock out of the pistol grip and a scope out of the top of the pistol for longer range engagements. Kazuo currently has his set to stun/non-lethal for obvious reasons. - Blast: Also called scatter-blast, this turns the gun into a pistol shotgun in a similar manner to Bolt. Scatter-blast suffers from horribly short range; it's most effective at under ten feet, and is next to useless beyond thirty. Is also currently set to stun/non-lethal. - Blade: Extends a blade of focused mana out of the gun. Has two settings, saber and great sword. Saber generates a 2.5 foot single-edged blade. Great sword straightens & extends the grip to 1.5 feet and generates a 3.5 foot double edged blade. - Impulse: Generates a directed blast of concussive energy. Has two modes, burst and charge. Burst fires a stream of energy as long as the trigger is held down, for up to five seconds. Charge builds up a more powerful blast of energy that is released when the trigger is; charge maxes out at five seconds. When fired against a static object at point blank (5ft or less), Impulse will push the wielder back with equal and opposite force. - Line: Generates a grappling line or a whip. - Portal: It's just a portal gun. That said, the portals will remain open even if the gun is switched to another spell, but the portals can only be closed on command if it's the active spell. Anything between the two portals when one is closed will be launched out of the other one.
Skills: - Fluent in both Russian & Japanese and has half-decent English. - Driver's license - Has learned the basics of mechanics and engineering in order to be able to do basic maintenance on his Mana Engines.
Rank:
Club:Martial Arts Kazuo's weakest point in a fight is melee, specifically unarmed. In order to make up for this, He joined the Martial Arts club in order to diversify his skill set as much as possible.
ALSO: While I'd really like to join in on this, I'm not entirely sure if I've got the time. As such, if Kaz' is accepted, I'll be waiting a week or two before posting to make sure I'm not overextending myself.
I don't remember if this was asked or not 😅 but, are AEDs especially resistant to being destroyed? I would imagine the mana bolsters their durability somehow, if so.
As Duoya said, I've been readjusting my schedule for the new semester so I've been dead, but hopefully I'll try and get caught up and get Fuko to cause trouble do something later today!
Ok, here's hoping that sounded as much like a challenge/declaration of war as I'd intended. The path to friendship lies in a lake of bloody rivalry, after all! Also, I think I mentioned everyone who was in that outside area, but let me know if I missed you.
