Only a Human System
A Post-Apocalyptic Science Fiction and Fantasy RP
-0-
“The Eternal Empyreal Empire has collapsed, leaving chaos in its wake. The portals that once connected the farthest corners of the empire were its downfall at last. When we became too greedy and sought to conquer other realms of reality, we opened a threshold for the Corruption to come. Then the whole portal network collapsed, and we were left in the dark, disconnected, disinformed, abandoned and alone. A century has passed since the War of the Corruption started and fifty years since the Empire finally fell. Most of the population of the Empire has been exterminated either by our own incivility and barbarism or by the sword and gun of the Corruption. We must travel to the edge of the Empire to try to escape from both of them now; there seems to be no other choice but to fly away as far as we can and maybe, just maybe, we can unravel the mystery if the Corruption on the way...
Every story after the end starts this way, child.”
What to expect?
- This is a Sci-Fi and Fantasy RP but turned on its head since its after most of the wonders of modern technology and magic, and sometimes the combination of the two, are submerged in a post-apocalypse. This means that whatever gadgets you have of the times of the Empire are what could be salvaged from what worked after all networks of communications and amenities collapsed. What can still be powered up, what can still be repaired after breaking a dozen times, what can still work even after a life ten times as harsh as intended; that’s what we can count on.
- Whatever weapons you might have picked up from the fallen military of the Empire are few and might still fail you even if they were in perfect condition. Remember that the Empire conquered everything in sight until the Corruption came. And they brought forth everything they had conquered against the Corruption and, while managing to fight them for half a century, still lost.
Guns are precious, if you can kill something with an arrow, don’t even consider wasting a bullet. If have enough magic potential to avoid using an arrow, don’t even consider wasting them. Nevertheless, the Corruption hasn’t been kind on the world, and you’ll have to use your bullets one way or another; sooner rather than later. - The Eternal Empyreal Empire was a huge state, far larger than any state that has existed on Earth, in fact, larger than the whole surface of the Earth. We luckily will be starting close to the very edge of it.
That means that you can have a character that is inspired in any human culture or any mixture of human cultures, while not necessarily being human.
This also means there will be some time-skips. - Many were the races that were part of the Empire. Regardless of their status then, they are now what you can count on to survive. Nobody who thinks otherwise has survived long and those who have aren’t worth less than putting a bullet through their hearts. Yes, in these apocalyptic times, we haven’t all managed to work together or even stand each other. Take care with every group or being you encounter.
You can pick one of many races or their hybridizations. Elf? Yes. Half-Elf? No problem. Son of an elven mother and a shapeshifting Kitsune father? Again, no problem unless I start to have everyone claiming to be such kind of beings. It’s not first come, first serve either. You have to have a good character that justifies this investment and even if you have, I won’t have everyone using them. It is, of course, implicit that these characters aren’t meant to be Mary Sues.
Also, there will be robots and golems. - The Corruption is an extremely dangerous enemy, but one that isn’t very interested in actively hunting the survivors of the war after the Empire stopped being a threat. However, should you encounter it, it will do everything in its power to get rid of you, so you better run or, if you are extremely well armed and armoured, be prepared to do the same. Other survivors might also present a threat.
Your character might not need to be the most adept warrior, but everyone here is an adept survivor. - Magic isn’t something that everyone can master, nonetheless, a slight majority of the population of the Empire can practice in some small measure. Nonetheless, that doesn’t mean that magic is free. Every spell used carries an equivalent cost. For example, do you want to light a fire on a cold night? You’ll have to cool down the entire area a little bit to significantly heat up a smaller area.
- Technology, on the other hand, is something that everyone should be able to use. Some of the most adept will be able to use it in much more efficient and lasting ways though. Just remember that it will be harder to encounter intact tech and some of the most advanced forms it will require someone with some knowledge of how to use it.
- I only need one interested player to start. Everyone else can be joining at any time in the RP along our journey.
