A girl of strong will, Serina is often called stubborn among her peers. She is a quiet girl, always watching, learning, and observing from what and who is around her. When you manage to get her talking, however, it's is easy to tell that she is also very intelligent and can go on talking for days about the things she loves. While she seems cold and distant at first, Serina is said to have a motherly demeanor and likes to make sure everyone is taken care of. She seems to always have a plan, and prefers to tell the truth - although that method isn't always the smartest in some situations. Loyal to a fault, she typically puts others before herself and tries to help them in any way that she can.

While kind and nurturing, Serina is also short-tempered and won't hesitate to stab just about anyone. She's quite charismatic, and has a certain charm to her that you can't quite place your finger on.

Other: -Bites her bottom lip and chews the inside of her jaw when nervous.
-Bites her nails.
-Habitual eye roller.
-Hums when cleaning.

  • Leather rucksack containing bandages, some lose change and paper money, two flasks of water, a few apples, a dagger, deer jerky, six feet of rope, and a bedroll.
  • Longsword

H I S T O R Y

Serina was born at the end of an extremely hot summer, and is the youngest of eight siblings - and the only female. Growing up, she was expected to be shown the basic duties of being a woman (cooking, cleaning, etc.), but was also expected to always make times for her studies. Her fathers friends often commented on her beauty, and she was eventually betrothed to one of their sons. She wasn't happy with the arrangement, often arguing with her father over it. She did, however, understand the circumstances and why it was happening.

She spent most of her time studying, though she liked to learn more about the town around her than the ones in her books. Her favorite thing to study was always science - mainly human interactions and the like. She enjoyed the trips to the market with her mother more than anything. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she studied, she never seemed to win her fathers approval. She wasn't smart enough in his eyes, nor quick enough for his liking. His pride was in his sons. She was just another way for him to make an alliance with a different family.

The day of her seventeenth birthday was when Serina was taken. She was outside hanging the laundry up to dry. Her mother and father had taken a trip to the market with most of her brothers. The eldest son was left there with her, but he was busy tending to his books. Kicking and screaming as she went, Serina doesn't remember much about her journey to the Order. Looking back on it, her father had grown more and more anxious the closer it got to her birthday. Did he know what was coming?

Upon arriving at the Phoenix Order, Serina didn't know where she was, or who she was with. To say the least, she was frightened. The first few weeks there is another part of her memory that she does her best to block out of her mind. During those weeks, she resorted to the ways of some may call a feral animal. She didn't eat, she didn't sleep - but she did learn how to fight. Just because she was small didn't mean she couldn't hold her own ground. The only way that she found out where she was was due to overhearing conversations. The fact that some people actually came here willingly astonished her.

Now she spends her time reading whatever books she can find for fun between training and learning the ways of the Order. Serina does her best to stay on the good side of most, though it doesn't always work. Her favorite fights are against the much larger men of the group. While she isn't happy with the hand in life that she's been dealt, the young woman is trying to make it work.

.: Jak24MaleFormerly of the Proletarian CastePansexual :.

A P P E A R A N C E

Jak brings light into the world and this is due to a few things, but what is probably the most noticeable thing is his golden hair that’s quite lengthy and often tied up in various loops and braids. When in light, it appears even more yellow than when not; and in light or not in light, his eyes sparkle like the blue sky of old times. Being someone who frequently runs and has to keep quick, his body is, though not muscular, fit enough to maintain the speedy retreats needed for a thief. He is also fairly tall, being someone who reaches sixty-three inches, his general silhouette makes him appear quite formidable.

When it comes to clothing, aside from a rogue hood and cloak, he wears what he can find, which usually is pants and shirts. He doesn’t wear too much for every single item of clothing he wears makes him that much slower. And being in the profession that he is, it stands to reason that he likes to keep his outfits as minimal as possible.

P S Y C H O L O G Y

In such a cruel world full of darkness and dread, Quicksilver Jak provides those close to him with a bit of light that can brighten up the world. Or at the very least, give them something beautiful to gaze upon.

Truly, Jak is not one to shy away from acting like he brings joy to those around him. Be it the truth or a fabricated lie that stems from his own “head in the clouds” mind, Jak does not lack confidence -- and despite everything happening outside the walls, despite surviving poverty and orphanage and other terrible aspects of his life, there is something to be said about his outlook on life. He firmly believes a man should do what they can to always look ahead and never behind. Taught by one of the greatest men to ever live this caged world, Jak has never entertained the notion of negativity nor has he entertained the notion that he isn’t great.

As the self-appointed best of the Proletarian Pickpockets, a group of thieves who are known for being extremely quick on their feet and infamously tenacious, Jak exemplifies everything that The Hand, the man who they were raised/taught by. His real name is unknown but he is called The Hand simply because he is the hand that fed them, taught them. Be crafty, slick, never doubt yourself, and above all else, have a little fun. Jak fully and wholeheartedly believes that life, even one so gloomy as the one they live within the walls, should always be cherished, which is why there is another key aspect to Jak’s personality.

He never kills. Even when faced with certain death, life must be preserved and killed that which also breathes the same air that he does, Jak refuses to take that right away from them. Extremely maim and donate bodily harm to them is allowed within his code of conduct, but Jak refuses to kill.

E Q U I P M E N T

  • A set of 8 throwing daggers/knives.
  • Medium pouch of rations and coin.
  • Two steel short swords
  • Silver pendant necklace worn at all times

H I S T O R Y

Jak never knew his birth parents. He never felt the warmth of his mother’s love or the guidance of who might be his father. For all he knew, they were somewhere in the Bastion. Or they provided soil for the worms in the ground to consume. Jak has never known whether or not his name is Jak. The whole truth is at a young age -- younger than most when they came into The Hand’s care -- Jak arrived on his doorstep. Among seven others, he was raised by this man, taught how to steal and keep his ears closeby, and most of all, when the time comes, he was taught how to fight by this man.

Now, to know why Jak carries himself like he does, first you must know about The Hand. His true name is unknown to those who see him as a father-like figure. Eight children he raised and eight of them became thieves of various makes. A few of them died over the years for not being careful. His band of would-be thieves are known as the Proletarian Pickpockets because while you might not see them, their quick fingers always ensure they’ll always see you. Whether its coin, rations, fruit or even weapons should the score be available to them, The Hand has taught them to be fast and efficient.

Out of eight that came to his doorstep, the only one that mastered every lesson that The Hand gave him. It got to the point where The Hand grew weak and Jak took the reigns of the Pickpockets. By the age of twenty, Jak was the one giving the lessons and training the young ones to be fast yet sturdy. He was the father figure to these kids who ranged from ten to five.

For a while there, Jak felt like his life finally had meaning and seeing how much these kids looked up to him gave him a new purpose. He could be what The Hand was to him all those years ago. Nearly for four years, it was working out the best that it could for him and his pickpockets, but everything changed when one he thought was ready for a big score but ended up costing them everything. The task was simple: steal a sword from a member of the Red Guard who was known for coming on their corner to release his southern efforts. This task showed quickness and a certain amount of courage in risky situations, but at the time of this happening, the Red Guard soldier saw him, Nyket and soon the Pickpockets were in danger.

Death was certain for Nyket, but there came a compromise. To ensure that this wouldn’t happen again and as a show of good faith, Jak offered himself up in Nyket’s stead. The punishment was worse than death: Jak was to serve for the Phoenix Order.

During his final moments with his kids, Nyket, the oldest of the remaining children, gave Jak a silver pendant necklace, the last remaining token Nyket had from his mother before she died. As he said his final goodbyes and took what he needed, Jak smiled as he made his final journey. Death came to Jak, the Pickpocket and life was flown into Quicksilver Jak of the Phoenix Order.

Edrick Manard

C H A R A C T E R S U M M A R Y

Edrick's personality matches his appearance, which matches his reputation prior to joining the Phoenix Order. A large, ugly, often meanspirited man, he has tempered these character defects somewhat as the hard process of his training proceeded. At 31 he is getting a rather late start. He may blame it on his Proletarian upbringing but it is really his own doing, and having grown up and lived among the people for 31 years and having often run in to trouble with the Crimson Eye no one is falling for that.

A P P E A R A N C E

Edrick is 6'1" with a muscular body built through years of helping his Blacksmith father in the only way he ever truly learned to; by doing the most basic backbreaking aspects of the work over and over again and with great enthusiasm. His skin has darkened from long hours spent in the family shop and is marked here and there with small scars from his troublesome teenage years and his troublesome 20s. His hair is cut short at the sides and longer on the top, with a rather ragged beard on his chin. His most distinguishing feature is his nose, which healed poorly several times after being broken by one guard or another several times and generally for good cause.

P S Y C H O L O G Y

Edrick's personality has changed rather considerably during his time in the Phoenix Order. He has not been able to completely shake his character flaws but finding a purpose and being held to a standard has change him. He has always been impatient, hyperactive, and prone to making rash decisions without considering the potential consequences of his actions. These flaws led him through a rather failed life prior to the Phoenix Order, but the training and punishment he received there tempered them.

E Q U I P M E N T

  • Heavy Plate
  • Shield
  • One Handed Mace
  • Simple Hide Shoulder Bag on his Back holding a bed roll, a large skin of water, a simple knife with a holster, and about as much dried meat as he could afford.

H I S T O R Y

Although his Father was a talented craftsman and a patient teacher Edrick had never really taken to the family business. For long years his Father had made the finest of weapons and equipment for the Crimson Eye and Phoenix Order and for long years he had showed Edrick each step in detail, but it never seemed to stick for him. On the rare occasion Edrick managed to pay attention to the long rather meticulous process he would come to the conclusion that he most certainly gives not a fuck about it. Edrick never enjoyed the detail work that separated a serviceable piece of equipment from an expertly crafted work of art. Edrick took more to the simple brute force aspects of it. Pounding metal ingots flat, heating them, folding again, pounding again, and then when the work was done he would take his pay and fine something or someone new to pound in one fashion or another.

From his mid-teens through his twenties Edrick lived in this way earning himself quite a reputation for better or worse, and mostly for the worse. Between drinking, fighting, and womanizing he found himself in trouble with the Crimson Eye on a fairly regular basis. Due to his contribution to his Father's business and his Father's businesses contribution to Bastion they generally took it easy on him. After a spirited beating he would generally be left with little worse than a broken nose. In time many of the Crimson Eye came to know him, some thinking of him disdainfully as an untouchable waste, others hoping he might turn his life around if only to carry on his Father's legacy and stop disgracing his name.

Not paying much attention to his Father's yammering on as he got deeper into the process of repairing a Ranger's sword one day a 30 year old Edrick was thinking only of a saucy red haired woman he had seen walking the streets. She seemed to have a certain exotic look about her and Edrick intended to get a closer look at it. Much closer. Wondering to himself what he might say to her the next time he saw her he was caught by surprise, turning quickly in reaction to a startled scream from Father. Thick smoke with a sheen to it had leapt up from the blade. Across the shop their eyes met in horror, Edrick paused only a moment before beginning to walk toward his Father but it was long enough.

Crimson Eye in the market place had heard the shout and turned to see, and the Crimson Eye knew at once exactly what they had seen and exactly what it meant for the Blacksmith and his shop. It had been his Father's poor luck that a bit of infected blood or flesh had been caught up in the metal. Perhaps in the pitting about the pommel, perhaps in the filigree along the blade, whatever was caught and where ever it was caught as the blade heated up the flesh had flashed up and set it's vapors into the air. Anyone in Bastion could tell you what must come next, it is inevitable. As the Crimson Eye advanced toward the shop Edrick eyed his Father's hammer, but before he could move toward it he met the gaze of one of the Crimson Eyes. He knew as plain as day, if he reached for the weapon they would surely be upon him. From there it all happened with an impossible speed. A brief apologetic look from his Father as he wiped the infected blood and smoke from his face, some brief indeterminate words from Crimson Eyes as they gathered about his Father, his Father dropping to his knees head held high, and then only blood and fire.

Before the embers of his Father and his Shop had died down Edrick found himself in a cell awaiting inspection. While he awaited judgement some of the Crimson Eye came to speak to him, from a safe distance. They offered him a new Shop and steady work, if he could carry on his Father's work. He could not. Not even close. The days after they left and before he was cleared were long, but then he was set to be released. Released into a world he had no real place in, his only marketable skill his ability to perform the simplest most monotonous and back breaking of labor. When his release came some of the Crimson Eye who had slain his Father and burned his home came to meet him and shine some light on his position. They told him what he already knew, that he had no future, and then they offered him one.

As a final gift to his Father they would offer Edrick one last shot at a life worth living or a death worth dying. He would get no favors if he chose to try out for the Phoenix Order, but they would see to it that he got a foot in the door. As it turned out that foot in the door was all Edrick needed. His mistakes were corrected violently, they spoke to him in a language he understood. His successes were met with more and harder work to do. Years of hard work had hardened him enough that he had made it this far through his Aegis training. He took some hard hits as the days wore on, but he dealt some pretty hard hits out himself. It wasn't pretty, but neither was he.

C H A R A C T E R S U M M A R Y

Age : 25
Gender : Male
Caste : Magus Ordinis

A P P E A R A N C E

A middle aged man with long curly brown hair and dark brown eyes. His body size would be average/husky, though he does not have as much refined muscle on him. His skin is fair where the sun doesn't touch, but as of recent it has slowly begun to turn back to its natural color, only a few spaces are left with darker tan lines. But mainly where head dress, and clothing does not touch.

P S Y C H O L O G Y

For a vigilant man in a order of warriors, he would seem somewhat cowardly to most as he doesn't like to enter fights where him and his friends may meet their doom. He is strategic and thoughtful, hoping his time with books and knowledge will help him and his allies in their battles to come. Inside of combat, he is a fighter like every other man, fighting to survive. He hopes in combat to save at least some of his friends, but luckily he has only been in bouts and various trials. He hopes that his training will not have to be used in defense.

Outside of combat he is somewhat energetic with things that he enjoys such as architecture, engineering, and some dabbling into the human body. He desires to create tools and weapons that can defend that city which he loves so, build forts and citadels that can protect farther then the walls which he stands vigil on now. To recreate man from the golden age of man from before the plague, to see what the world would have looked like pure from corruption as he sees all to have suffered and changed from what humans once were. He studies so much, but how much of the knowledge will be able to be used?

E Q U I P M E N T

  • Full plate and armet helm /w padding
  • Halberd
  • Longsword
  • Small bag for coins.
  • Smaller belt pouch of herbs, cloths and small instruments
  • Larger bag for cooking utensils, small patchwork kit, underclothing, bed roll, etc.

H I S T O R Y

Born to be the third son out of eight children in a minor family of the Magus Ordinis, this family whose runes covered the left side of the body, and focusing on fine refined points, symmetry, and very little curves. It was based off of the earth beneath them, the edges of stone, and the points of mountains. When his family came to the city, they were given refuge and an area to build their house once again inside the city before the wall was built. Having created forts and castles from before their forced arrival to the city. By the time they had arrived, the wall was already being constructed, and they would continue this process and guide the walls construction until it was finished. Then for the years past, reconstruct parts of the city that needed to be reconstructed due to damage and general wear.

But by the time Joseph came around, the city was already suffering from lack of resources. This would come into his life as he was the youngest in the family. Being educated by secondary tutors, his studies to educate him, and improve upon his skills were the bottom of the barrel compared to most of his other peers. It did not help him much as he was given worn text books to learn from, specially somewhat outdated textbooks that his older brothers would be using. This would continue for much of his life, learning little by little out of any book he could get his hands on. He learned a little of everything, architecture, poems and literature, math, sciences, arts, even a book on the human body.

But at the age of ten, he began growing fond of fortresses, castles and the walls that encased him. He wanted to build such grand monstrosities of stone, he began sketching the walls and streets. He'd find high points and may layouts of the city near him. He would watch the world evolve around him in his youth, and enjoy it in his child state. This is when he would begin painting, carving and begin learning refined metal works that would evolve into his knowledge of basic engineering. But due to cost of resources, this would begin to have effects on the wealth of his family.

This was where he began to fall from grace, when he inflicted massive amounts of debt upon his family, and then the cast. He would use resources that could be used to help rebuild broken walls, or be placed as supports to an aging building that could of had a few more years of life. But instead it was used on this young boys ambitions and desires. If it was not for this, he could have seen himself on the seat of the council as his studies were outpacing his brothers, and his artistic ability was above even some of his sisters.

When he turned fifteen, he was betrothed to another family that had fallen to financial and social downturns. The girl was seven years younger, so he would have to wait at least seven. But it would still give him time to enjoy his life, studying and making himself fit if he was to work on such magnificent arts such as architecture for those who most desired it. Or those who would need the talents of a grand engineer. When this time turned about, he had also began refining his artistic abilities such as refined masonry, and basic mechanical tools. These would be lack luster because of the resources available to him, since the rest of the family was limiting what he resources he could use in his studies and crafts. He would make due.

At the age of twenty he was working in as many jobs as he could, helping design buildings in area's of the city that needed to be refurbished due to various reasons. Selling paintings made of only a few colors. He was still the pride of the family, out preforming the sciences of his brothers, but only beating his eldest sister in the arts. On paper, he was well rounded, an artist, a builder and craftsman, and even a tradesman or statesman at times if need be. But, this would not help his family much at all, this would make them look worse due to the strain of resources he caused his family, and more importantly the Magus Ordinis.

Five years, he was still not married his betrothed had died young some three years early to an infection of some kind and his trades were not working for him. He had managed to pay off some of the debt his family owed to various people, and made a deal with the Magus Ordinis to pay off the rest. To end the suffering of his family due to his drain on capitol and resources, he would join the Phoenix order. He was soon escorted away, begin the trials of the Phoenix order, and not doing the best in the portions of the first trials, he managed surviving nonetheless. But, he will find out soon, that he is most likely going to be sent to his death in the rangers.

  • Race: Hasivani
  • Age: 25
  • Height: 5'11"
  • Gender: Male
  • Sexual Orientation: Straight
  • Marital Status: Single

Edeul's personality matches that of a predator or evasive animal. He doesn't trust anyone even if they are in his social group. Always suspicious of people, and their objectives, he keeps them at arms length, and always thinks of possible gains for having them around. This could be do to his past, but nothing solid says it could be the case. For he has always been that way.

A P P E A R A N C E

Edeul always keeps his face hidden by a white ceramic mask due to the burns on his left side cheek and the runic markings on his face. His eyes are the only part seen through the mask as they shine a silver grey when hit by light. He has a slight stocky build, and is physical fit. He never wears anything that is too shiny or can reflect light. Metals on his person that are exposed are covered with a sap and ash blend that hardens to keep light from reflecting on them. Has a small pendant of a snake coiling around a staff and sword, a family sigil long thought to be gone after the end of the Onyx War.

P S Y C H O L O G Y

Much like his personality Edeul's psychology is like that of an animals. He always is wary of newcomers, and has a tendency to stalk those he sees as a possible threat. He tends to always stay on his guard even in times of rest as a threat may always be lurking. He isn't much for groups or social gatherings. Tends to be a loner besides the few people he deems as his friends. When it comes to tough situations Edeul is able to think on his feet as he tries to find a solution to the matter by thinking a few moves ahead.

H I S T O R Y

Born the first born son of Raven Morralis. Edeul had to learn and fill the role of being part of the Magus Ordinis. His kind of the Hasivani once wielded the powers of magic, but after the Council used their ritual all magic had been purged from the populace. His family passed down a pendant from generation after generation to the next head of the family. It was a sigil of the family Galaya. One of the most well known magic wielding families in the land. After the ritual Galaya had no immediate heirs besides that of the branch family of Morralis. With the weight of needing to live up to the name their family had. Edeul went through harsh lectures, and even was beaten, until he knew the materials handed to him.

Once he became of age he had to undergo a trial his family has done since the days of old. He was task with uncovering the link to bringing back magic by any means necessary. His deadline was given to him shortly after accepting it. With only a short six years he began to work. His methods started to raise suspicion as members of lower Hasivini families and other castes began to vanish without a trace. His labs were raided multiple times, but no proof of his actions were found. The only thing in his labs were cadavers that signed forms when he they were alive to be used in the efforts of his trial.

However one day he was summoned in front of the council of actions he didn't commit. They claimed to have a witness seeing him stalking one of the missing Hasivani. After weeks of just going in circles Edeul grabs what he could of his research and items he could sell if his funds got too low, and ran to escape his fate of being executed for having a hand in the disappearances. One night he took a torch he was carrying, and placed it on the runic marking with his name and lineage erasing them from time and from his past.

After three years of constantly moving he joins the Order to fully escape the reach of the Council. There he showed his skills with stealth and his expertise in poisons and medicines. There he began to ingest small doses spanning long periods of time to gain a small immunity to the poisons he crafts. Over time his figure began to change slightly as his immunity to poisons grew. His once lean build began to bulk and swell in size.

Now in the middle of his Aegis training he gets a letter on his bed to join the Rangers. Filled with rage and upset he stabs the letter into his bedpost, and makes a runic symbol, for chaos, onto the letter in blood.
