Now before we get started, I feel it’s important to mention the process by which the characters are ranked.

The point of a tier list is to show how strong a character is in a game’s “meta.” This is usually done the lazy way by letting the win ratios of the best tourney players determine everything and then having forum trolls come in and point out why the characters performed the way they did. In a fighting game, this is as simple as determining a character’s kit and seeing how it works against other characters. In MOBAs like League of Legends, the process is a bit more complex, and often varies by game mode. A character doesn’t have to just perform well, but they have to work well with others and be good in whatever popular strategy is going around at the time.

Historically, The magical girl RP has been about groups of girls coming together to beat up other groups of girls for one reason or another. Team fights are commonplace while one on one fights are practically nonexistent and can be counted on one hand. For that reason, I’ve leaned towards the MOBA way of ranking characters by focusing more on how well they work in teams VS solely how powerful their kit is. Additionally, characters rank better if they have more connections, as that means more allies to help beat up your foes. Because unlike mobas, fights don't have a character restriction or are always balanced. It should also be noted that “IC feats & accomplishments > Your character sheet.” It doesn’t really matter if your character’s skin is as strong as steel, or that you can call upon hurricane force winds if it doesn’t win battles. Because of this, there are some characters that I haven’t been able to collect sufficient data on and will likely score lower overall because of it. Most of the new season 3 characters or characters with little IC traction will more or less be omitted from my list. I’ve also decided to leave out allies and NPCs as I consider them more an extension of a character’s power than a totally separate entity. So they will be included in the list by proxy. I'm not being lazy, I plomise.

I did write assessments for all the characters, but I've opted to leave them out for now and just present the lists.



PENNY TIER: Characters in this tier have it all, from huge squadrons of magical girls to call on to powerful abilities.

BEACON TIER: Characters in this tier have many powerful connections and are desirable additions to any team.

POPULAR TIER: Characters in this tear have many connections and possess powers desired by most teams. Or are beacon tier but have many enemies.

STILL COOL TIER: Characters in this tier have fewer connections, and/or more common powers.

LONER TIER: Characters in this tier are largely unknown and/or likely have specialized powers or are kitted more for duels.

Here's a waifu tier list everyone was expecting me to do. Not gunna comment on ally and NPC characters unless specifically asked.

In terms of what the girls are being graded on, it's a lot of things. But this is more than just selecting a hot face claim for your jail bait. We're more talking the important stuff. Being cute helps, but you can't just be cute. Depth of character and being funny goes a long way with me.

Characters with less screen time also have less time to develop, so keep that in mind.



EMILY TIER: Characters in this tier are quintessential waifus. What doesn’t make them perfect only makes them more endearing. Purchased a ring an everything.

WAIFU TIER: Characters in this tier would make for some good waifus and can get me to laugh. Would not mind being steady dating partner with them.

BEST GIRL TIER: Characters in this tier have more complex personalities and can get me to giggle. Would like to get to know them better.

GIRL TIER: Characters in this tier have quirky personalities and/or can be funny. Think they look cute.

TRASH TIER: Characters in this tier have stereotypical personalities and/or are stone faced. Would like them to respect my choice and stay in the friend zone.

TOUPOU TIER: No Touhous nearby but I'm kind of Touhou anyway.

NOT TOUHOU TIER: It is safe but always be alert for Touhou.
