@RumikoOhara See, in RP's like this, power levels are worthless anyway. Everything works on the "Rule of Narrative" which clearly states "If the narrative can't proceed without Character X defeating Character Y, then Character X WILL defeat Character Y." It's why Superman can work on a team with people, despite being the most powerful being in the universe.
As for Lanterns having a support system, the point of Martin is that he became a Lantern in a way that he was never made privy to the knowledge that there ARE multiple Lantern Corps. As far as he's concerned, there is 1 ring of each colour. He is THE Gold Lantern and i think it's gonna be fun to RP him working with others and finding this out.
The gm is telling you no. S/he is asking you to make a different character because s/he doesn't want to see lanterns/supers. Please keep in mind what they say because they are the one leading this rp. If you can't abide by their rules and what they're asking you to do, then I highly suggest you look elsewhere to rp.
@mattmanganon For what it’s worth (which probably isn’t a lot), but I got to side with @RumikoOhara on this one. Lantern Rings are one of the most powerful weapons in the Universe, and each Lantern Corp keeps pretty close tabs on them. Making it almost impossible for a full set to be on earth, and not be known to the other Green Lanterns (Hal, Guy and John).
The Lanterns do have a basic set of rules they abide by.. and the fact they do normally kidnap new members moment they activate the ring for the first time to train them how to use their powers and teach them the job essentially since some of the rings can corrupt or kill their user very easily.
@Sonnenschein I'm not saying that i won't abide by the GM's decision, but i do feel compelled to make a decent argument for my case and if that still doesn't work, then yes, i will happily leave you all to it.
@Sanity43217 And again, I hate it whenever anybody says something like that in here. I've been playing on sites like this for 12 years and if that has taught me anything, it's that there is one simple rule of power in every Freeform RP like this:
"Limiting the powers of your characters doesn't limit the amount of overpowered characters. Because there are no overpowered characters, just people who play their characters as overpowered."
An overpowered character is one that won't be defeated by any means and that really comes down to how a player plays their character. Again, you simply have those that follow the simple rule of narrative and those who don't. If you follow the rule of narrative, then you can play any character in any situation, because you will know to go down when you need to in order for your and other peoples stories to work. If you can't, then you are not going to go down, regardless of what power you have, because you'll find literally any way to BS your way out of danger, because "My character isn't a loser who loses, he's a winner who wins every single time without fail" and that's when it all breaks down. Trust me, i've had to kick enough people from RP's or asked that they be kicked because they just don't know how to fucking go down when the narrative needs them to. Hell, one guy did this so bad that i actually banned "Any powers related to "Shadow Manipulation" from every powered RP i did, until i realized that rule above. "It doesn't matter what powers he had, he would have found SOME way to do that shit."
As for Lantern Rings, you gotta remember that there are thousands of each of them flying about and, if you've ever read a Lantern comic, you will know that they can quite easily get stolen or simply vanish without a trace. That's hell, that's how Mongol almost took over the Yellow Lanterns. That's how Sinestro and Atrocitus were able to found the Yellow and Red Lantern corps, respectively, to begin with, that's how Scar was able to create the Black Lanterns. "Stole Lantern technology and hid it long enough to replicate it." Way i see it. Sinestro stole the technology and hid it for long enough before, i'm sure that he can do it again. Granted, this time, he doesn't have Paralax's help, but he is very intelligent.
@mattmanganon An overpowered character in RP's like this are also characters whose very existence forcefully alter established characters/lore in a way that contradictsthe core of them.
For instance, a normal human child, with a fairly rough life being given a weapon that is given specifically to those who inspire fear. No offense to any normal human who had a rough childhood, but teenagers don't exactly inspire fear. And given the previously given explanation as to how the kid got the ring, it would likely not have been yellow, as yellow is associated with inspiring fear not being fearless.
Then there is the MAJOR personality change to a recognizable villain who has never (to my knowledge) shown pity in his quest for power. Killing (or trying to kill) people he had once called friend, even lover, if they threatened his chances. So to take pity upon some random kid who wasn't scared of him, especially to give that kid power, is as out of character for Sinestro as eating human flesh would be for Mickey Mouse. If nothing else Sinestro would be more inclined to simply vaporize the kid to eliminate another possible green lantern.
Of course the biggest hole I can see is in the previously mentioned explanation; Where it was heavily suggested that Sinestro met the "Gold Lantern" while wielding multiple spectrum rings and fghting the other lantern corps. So the whole ignorant of the others is a MASSIVE issue.
*Sinestro is Yellow Lantern and stole 1 of each of the other Lantern Rings and took them to Earth. *Sinestro released them on Earth with a special little modification that both masked them from other Lanterns as well as bound them to Earth, so they had to find a host on the planet. *Martin was the first one found and he was found by the Green ring. *Sinestro tricked Martin and the others that the rings chose into believing that they were 1 big team that weilded the 7 magic rings of power, with him as the leader. They tracked down all of the members and grew closer to each other as they did so. *After the others were found, he tricked Mongol into attacking Earth in order to claim the Rings for himself to make him into a Lantern god of sorts. This set up a situation where the other Lanterns were forced to combine their powers and, with all ring colour weilders in agreement, they summoned the White Lantern ring and gave it to Sinestro. *Having everything he needed, he dropped all pretenses, easily defeated Mongol, told them "By the way, i fucking hate every single one of you and thanks for the White Ring, taking War-World and going to conquer the universe now, since no-one can stop me." *Martin attacked him, but having lost all sense of reason at this betrayal, the Green ring sensed that he was no longer fighting on will-power and abandoned him. *Sinestro found that Martins will to fight him, even after the Green ring abandoned him, caused him for the briefest of nanoseconds the ever so slightest twinge of fear that "Good thing the Green Ring abandoned him or he might have actually killed me with that kind of willpower." It took the Yellow ring a little time, but after a few days, it picked up on that and bound itself to the one that made its former master feel fear. *He is now looking for purpose, something to do with this power.
Sinestro has always feared what he can't control. That's why he took Arin Sur's death so badly, that's why Paralax was drawn to him and why he became the champion for yellow. He saw in Martin a great power that he couldn't control, but he let Martin live, because he was determined to prove that he had overcome that fear. Plus, they had developed a sort of "Student-teacher bond" that Sinestro didn't want to admit to, but also didn't let stand in his way. Sinestro won. That's not a great departure from his personality. This is Martin dealing with having his ass thoroughly handed to him by Sinestro.
@Dnafein I dont need help, but thanks. I'm capable of doing it on my own. I was just not able to work on it because of work.
@mattmanganon there's no reason to keep arguing though. The gm said no. S/he told you that s/he didn't want lanterns in the rp, so there's literally no case for you to be making. Again if you have a problem with that decision, then find another DC rp to join.
@Sonnenschein I don't get this argument. "If you question your GM, that means that you don't respect them!" Surely questioning your GM is showing them respect. "I respect you enough to disagree with you and tell you why i disagree with you, because i think you are a reasonable person who can reasoned with."
It's not like i've been told no multiple times and continue to beat a dead horse. I was told "No, i don't want Lanterns" and i have given a good reason why i feel Lanterns aren't as detrimental to the RP as they believe. If/when Rumiko weighs that argument and still says no, then i'll drop it.
@mattmanganon As I said previously, A major personality change to a structured villain causing them to behave out of character. Additionally, the indepth explaination doesn't alter the facts that the other Corps would be aware of Martin and the others Sinestro used; Likely as soon as Mongul knew, at the very least they would know the moment the White Lantern was summoned.
Of course your explanation added an additional issue. You imply that in his anger he attacked Sinestro. Yet he was given a yellow ring later, but not the red ring then? That doesn't seem to fit. Enough rage to attack someone you essentially gave everything to because they took what you gave them? Thats obviously enough to merit the red ring. Of course that would require the all powerful villain to care about his minions and not vaporize them to eliminate threats....
@mattmanganon Your argument makes no sense, but okay. If they say no, then they don't want you to do whatever it is that you want to do. That's a good enough reason to NOT do it. Lol. I don't care if you THINK you have good enough reason to do it because if the gm says no, then that's that. That's the end of discussion. It doesn't make it an open discussion about how and why you can seemingly justify your choice.
to be frank the constant argument form you and Dnafein doesn't help any, best to just take a step back and let Rumiko and matt talk about the situation themselves and settle the full argument themselves.

GIFT : Gamer
The Gamer is a gift that transforms the user's entire existence into that of a video game character, they can level up, learn new skills, increase their stats to make themselves stronger, using various menus like that from games such as inventory and so on. Making it a heavily adaptable power with unknown limits
Inventory - interdeminsonal storage for items, has limited space though multiple of the same item can stack, also attached to the equipment menu where he can see what things he has equipped (wearing/holding) Current items in inventory: Candy Bars, Various damaged game systems and games, a reverse blade katana, some money and a dragon designed lighter.
Skills List - List of all the skill he has obtained and learned, skills can be gained by physically repeating an action, skill books which will input it into the user's head but destroy the book, and gifted from another source.
Gamers body (passive) - Makes the user's body like that of a game character.
Gamers Mind (passive) - The user is now game character,so they can see though danger in a calm manner, auto-calms the user when they get stressed and gives resistant to mental attacks.
Cleaning level 15 (passive) - Improves the rate and ease the difficulty of cleaning.
Cooking level 10 (passive) - improves the taste and outcome of all food cooked.
ID Create Level 3 (active) - Creates an illusionary dungeon that can be used for training, travel, and other various needs. Can be broken with enough force. Current Dungeons - Empty, Zombie, Ghost

Blade Master level 2 (passive) - Improves the power behind bladed weaponry
Summon Minor Elemental level 2 (active) 50 MP + 20MP/s - Summons a contracted minor elemental to serve the caster, contracted elementals; Fire - Salamander
Stats - Determines many things for the character, from equipment to abilities. Stats can be gained from super intense training in the specific field for long periods of time or from skill points gained from leveling. Level 5 Title: Friend of Spirits (Allows the user to hear and speak to the spirits around him) Class: The Gamer Life: 200 Mana: 100
Str: 10 (affects Phyiscal Strength) Vit: 10 (affects his health +10 per point, Stamina, and Health regen) Dex: 10 (affects his mobility and reflexes) INT: 10 (affects Mana +10 per point, and cognitive abilities like memory) Wis: 10 (affects mana regen and ability to quickly think and analyze a situation) Luk: 10 (affects well his luck in various forms)

Party menu - he can invite people to a team that allows them to use some of the gamer menu's to keep track of each other, and talk from extremely long distances.
Mini map - a small display he can call up that shows him an outline of his surroundings, as well as show pinpoints for part members.
Gift Limitations : Grind: no matter how versatile the gamer is, it is useless without heavy training, they have grind the level of their skills, and higher level the skill longer it takes. Even if he learns a multitude of abilities their stopping power would be non-existent without enough training. The first twenty levels normally being the easiest but then becoming a massive drain of time afterwords.
Requirements: as the ability is based on a game system, various items, skills, and so on will need basic requirements depending on the thing in question. Such as he might not be able to learn a spell because he needs ## in intelligence, or hold a giant sword because he needs ## strength.

Skills :
Gaming - Charles is incredibly skilled in gaming from how long he spent playing games in his youth.
Minor Swordsmanship - he was trained a little bit in using a sword by his child hood friend.
various household chores
Brief History : Charles is from the country side, simple little place where Charles lived a normal life though one day he meet his new friend in school and was taught about games something he was isolated from, moment he touched games he became pretty obsessed with them. Constantly playing them when ever he got the chance, until one day when he was playing a game in an arcade the screen changed suddenly as the face of a villain appeared, it was Control Freak, he grinned at Charles from behind the screen before saying 'yes you'll make a perfect candidate!' The was last thing Charles heard before suddenly a beam leaped out of the screen hitting him sending him flying unconscious into a wall. Charles would wake a few days later, seeing strange menus appear in his vision, having obtained the Gamer power thanks to control freak. His family was heavily upset something like this happened 'because' he was playing video games and tried to cut him off of games but in the end wasn't completely able to. Instead they made a deal where if he spent time training in things like self restraint by learning in his friend's family dojo he could continue to play games. So that is where he spent much of his free time, he trained little in the sword listening to his best friend's father teach. Even though Charles had gained this power he didn't really use it, it was after all something given to him by a villain so why would he give that villain pleasure by using it. So Charles' life went by normal until his 16th birthday, when he was having a huge party with his family and his friend with his family. He was opening presents, some was of games, clothing the normal things. Though there was two gifts that was different, one was a reverse bladed katana, something his friend thought he would look cool with, and the other was an unnamed packed that had a small lighter, with the shape of a dragon on it. When Charles was looking at the cool design but confused who had gotten it the television suddenly switched on. Control Freak was there again, though he looked annoyed "I gave you such a gift and you sit around wasting it! no no no! my plans will never happen at this rate!! time to give an incentive!" Through the shocked faces of everyone control freak would press a button on his remote and before they knew it an electrical fire broke out in the house. The fire spread way faster than anyone could react since control freak made it start from every electrical outlet there was, pretty soon the entire place was covered in flames. Charles shouted in pain and in fear at what was happening, until he heard a voice speak to him a soft almost child like voice 'do you wish to be saved' he immediately replied 'no! save the others!' hoping his friends and family was save but the reply killed any hope the boy had. 'They are already gone.. you are all that remains...' this caused the boy great sadness but then that was replaced with rage, rage at control freak for ruining his life and his family. Sensing a sudden strong will to live the spirit spoke 'I salamander hereby form a contract with you, our lives are together, are now one..' after the spirit spoke the fire suddenly jumped away from Charles as if controlled, as Charles felt a sudden tug in his gut he would pass out again. It would be days later Charles would wake up in the hospital, by his bed would be a Hero. In the next few hours the hero would explain to Charles what happened and then ask a few questions. After a while Charles was left alone in the hospital room, left to his own thoughts. It only took Charles a moment to make his decision, he had to hunt down control freak, he had to make things right. The best way to do so would be to either join the league a place where your constantly against villains.. or join the villains themselves and eventually meet up with him. Charles thought about it realizing his feelings may not be good but he wasn't going to just hurt the many to get the one, so Charles made his decision. So moment Charles was discharged he collected his only surviving possessions and sought out the Titans, what is normally seen as the prerequisite to join the league.
Tell me if anything you would like me to modify/change of course, as I did let my mind go wild especially when working on the history.
@Dnafein 1) I don't see how "Coming up with a machiavellian scheme to conquer the universe and ultimately letting his opponent live in order to feed his omnipotent arrogance" is somehow "Out of character" for Sinestro. I mean, i thought that was pretty much his main character motivation. "I want to rule the universe because everyone else has proven that they are incapable. Only i am strong enough, wise enough and have the will to bring the entire universe under a single banner" And anyone that says "Sinestro can't feel fear" clearly doesn't understand the character. Sinestro feels fear because he is the Champion of Fear. To become the champion of a colour, you have to be able to feel your emotion, allow it to flow through you, but for you to be in ultimate control of it and be able to instill it in others with the greatest of ease. That's why Hal is the Champion of Green, Attrocitus is the Champion of Red, etc. What does he fear the most? Anything he can't control. Death, for example. Arin died and he was powerless to stop it. 2) Again, because Sinestro had abandoned his Yellow ring in favour of White. The Red ring had its user, the Yellow didn't. Sinestro isn't cold and unfeeling. He cares about people. Hell, the reason that he's the villain that he is is because he loved Arin far too much that her death completely broke him. Again, he had to act caring towards Martin in order to foster that trust and, as proven with Hal, all the best lies have the truth sprinkled in there somewhere. Despite being a crazed despot, Sinestro has proven that he still does care for Halas a partner, as he cared for Arin and Abin. His only real regret is that Hal won't join him. And again, the reason he didn't kill Martin is because of Sinestro's single greatest weakness that defeats him on every single occasion.
Sinesto is the single most arrogant being in the universe. If he killed Martin as he stood there powerless then he'd have to admit that he feared him even a little. That isn't something he was willing to do.
Add a little here to describe how you dress casually and or if you like your uniform
GIFT : Twin soul-Flame
Twinsoul Flame is something the twins came up with but really their base powers are the ability to generate and control flame or different intensities. When Syrus is in control he generates red orange flames and when Sarah is in control she generates a hotter and more focused blue white flame. Both fly. Lastly they shift between male and female as they share the same body.
Gift Limitations : Limitation Due to their twin soul they never know when there will be a switch but times where Syrus gets angry he switches to Sarah. Cold weakens them to the point of not being able to use their powers if Syrus is in control and weakened version while Sarah is in control.
Skills : Syrus and Sarah are both trained in welding and architecture. In their spare time they like to build miniature buildings and objects.
Brief History : Before even being born their mother knew they would be special as their father was someone who had powers but not one who used them as they were unreliable. Sadly the twins came to harm in the womb as a their father lost control dieing soon after. Their souls on some grander scale began to merge and formed one body with two souls. Their mother devastated by learning her twins had become just one child decided upon birth she would give them up and so she did.
Not knowing their parents Syrus being born male discovered around the age of ten that he had a twin as he heard her mind in his. Around the age of twelve he shift into her as he had gotten really angry. Flames shot out of Sarah, as she called herself, they learned they were even more not normal. All if this while growing up in different foster homes was becoming more challenging. So the following years Syrus/Sarah fled and lived on the streets studying buildings and various goings on before winding up living with a mechanic. The mechanic forced Syrus/Sarah to go to school and protected them regardless of their power. He treated them as if they were normal and loved them.
Turning fifteen they had figured out how to control their power but not when they shifted between one another. With their newly adopted father teaching them welding and how to fix things without their powers they grew as people. One day in the middle of summer that year their powers were required as a shooter took to their school killing two teachers. Once Syrus shifted into Sarah and flames sprouted from her the shooter was stopped. Freaking out after seeing this happen to a kid the shooter shot tried to shot Sarah several times without success. Sarah subdued the shooter bringing him to justice. From then on they both knew they had to forge their own path. So leaving their father they became the hero Fenix, traveling and delving out justice where it was needed.
