I've been going through a bit of melancholy remembering the "good ol' times". I had an Rp partner that was perfection in how we explored topics, the writing was on point, we had a lot of fun OOC, etc...

Anyone else have a twinge of nostalgia for former Rp partners? Wish to share those old times and commiserate with one another?

I really miss some of my old partners from other sites, like the basically defunct LiveJournal. I tried to keep in contact with some of them, but it's hard to track down people from that long ago. One I managed to connect with again recently through Tumblr and Discord. The other I'm still waiting to hear back from, a friend from overseas and I very much hope they are okay since last I spoke with them.

All of the time. Not just 1x1 partners but people I've plotted with in groups who, for a number of reasons, left the site. I always wonder what happened to them and if whether or not they are still writing or if they've completely retired from that life. I'll even go back and read posts of RPs we were in just relive those days and entertain the thought of what could have been if they stuck around.

Oh, God, yes.

But at the same time I get it; as an adult, mother, wife, sister, and friend who also has a career it's not hard to see moving on from roleplaying/online life completely. There's only so much time in a day.

Generally I'm happy for them, even if they're gone from here, though sometimes I just get sad about missing them.

Yea, there are people I miss. Though one has to be careful about reminiscing about the "good ol' times." Yes, people you really connect with aren't easy to find, but that's why you need to keep an open mind and be willing to mingle with strangers. If you're constantly getting acquainted with new people, you'll have something to fill the gap with when your old favorites leave.

Kind of reminds me when my brother made a forum "to keep the bad role players out." Thing is, he didn't exactly write the book on good writing. I'm not even sure if I'd call him a decent writer. Every RP was just the same 4-5 friends. You kind of knew where everyone was going with their characters. There were seldom any surprises, since I knew everyone's interests and I had been RPing with them for about 7 years. Some of the roleplays were great, others not so great. But if you like the people you're working with that doesn't seem to matter as much.

Point is, you met your favorite RPers during a chance encounter.

I used to Roleplay on Chatango with three college kids and someone around my age. I was around twelve then, but all of them were incredibly patient with teaching me how to Roleplay. I still have one on Facebook and one on Discord though I don't start conversations with them anymore. For the most part, both seem to be busy with their lives nowadays. I do miss all four of them and the sessions that we had together greatly. To this day, I still cite them for teaching me how to write properly and why I became interested in literature and Roleplay to begin with. We eventually switched to Skype when I was about fourteen and picked up two other members who I still keep in limited contact with.

The other person that comes to mind is the ex-girlfriend of a friend of mine. We ended up bonding over using Quotev and talking about our OCs through Skype before starting a Roleplay together. This eventually went on to inspire most of my characters even today. I do miss her, but we had to stop talking after it became obvious that she was into me and also somewhat of a bad person. I really liked the plot that we had going though. My friend has no idea what happened to her though so reconnecting her would be difficult to say the very least and I'm not sure if I would be willing to anyway.

There is one person on here who I used to play with who died but his account still exists so it makes me sad when I go back in my PMs and see his username, but at the same time it feels wrong to put the conversations in the trash.

I also had one really awesome and creative GM on here who quit because his girlfriend (whom he met on here) got jealous of all the other women players in his group RP and forced him to leave the site.

Usually I'm the nostalgic type but the past few years on the guild have been the most fun I've had in roleplaying.

When I was ~13-17, I did some pretty minor roleplaying with other people around my age on a forum for a show. It was pretty fun. Sometimes I feel nostalgic for it. I've lost contact with the people since long ago, but I'm sure they're all very different people by now. But the roleplay was very free and everyone was new to it, so we all made the same mistakes and adjustments, which made it fun.

I have a some old rp partners I'm nostalgic for. One of them, we were able to finish many different rps. (Which is rare to finish one, let alone multiple different stories!) But we grew apart.

The other ones had just a beautiful writing style and I loved their characters. There were dragons! Pretty boys! Long luscious posts! Sigh~

I'd point out that my sig is an actual quote from someone I RP'd with back in '08... they would not elaborate on the tattoo, however.

And coming back for more after five years sounds about right.

Yes. Quite a few partners for me that did Fandoms that I enjoyed and helped me to feel welcome into RPG, since then I feel like I haven't been really able to find those that would stick around though I do miss it as I look back on it as incomplete and feel like it could have gone longer than the immature end.

This person wasn't from this site, but...she's gone. As in, passed away last year. We had all kinds of 1×1 games, from fandom, to our own stuff, to in-between. Our favorite thing, ever, was putting Poison Ivy and Scarecrow from the Batman universe together. That's a ship I won't do with anyone else, because no one does Ivy quite like she did, and it's a dynamic I don't feel can ever properly be recreated. I still love and enjoy Batman media, but it does get bittersweet at times. She would have loved the new Harley Quinn show. I can easily imagine the kind of things she'd have to say about certain characters and plots, and how we'd alter certain events for shipping potential. XD

There's so many other things I miss, like how she'd send me Polyvore links for costume ideas she had, the art we made for our games and sometimes collaborated on, helping each other with ideas for our original worlds, and late nights we spent just being there for each other when life sucked. We called and Skyped a few times. I still have her friended on Facebook. I never got to meet her IRL, but I knew when she passed after her fiance made an announcement. She had a lot of medical issues, so it was only a matter of time; just no one thought it would be so soon, especially since she finally seemed to be on the mend in some aspects.

I miss her. She was a part of my life for well over a decade.

I had a partner from when I was 13 until the end of my freshmen year in college, so around 5 years or so we were RP partners and genuine friends. We were friends on FB and also sent each other holiday cards every year, chatted, etc. She helped me a lot, and when I say a lot, I mean it. I was a horrible writer and she still stuck through with me. She helped me become a lot better as a writer, even if I struggle a lot to this day when it comes to writing. She also taught me a lot about world building and just how to be a really good friend.

I got busy in college and with IRL things and stopped using social media and RPing and ghosted her kind of. I remember she was always down for roleplaying, I even remember our first roleplay where I was Draco in a Harry Potter RP to her OC. Those were the easy days when I didn't have to do anything and had all the time in the world to roleplay. And also s/o to the good old MSN Messenger roleplayers out there.

I never really got to say this though and feel like I should now.

Sorry for ditching you Erica, you didn't deserve it. I'm a shitty person for doing that. Hope you're doing well. <3
