>Mission_Information: Winter Contingency has been declared. On March 2nd, 2551, the human colony of Atis IV was struck by an unprecedented invasion. Insurrectionist activity was documented heavily on the colony, keeping local forces occupied until aforementioned date. Communications have been severed with reactionary fleets elsewhere. Commander Joseph Philemon of UNICOM has placed himself as direct Commanding Officer over the defence of the colony. All forces under UNICOM fall under his directive, as well as present UNSC Marine Corps branches. Information regarding the planet's current state are relatively unknown, even to the ground forces left holding the surface. Orbital Fleets have been scattered and scuffed through violent engagements near the colony. With communications down, it is safe to assume that the ground forces are uncoordinated and, at worst, unaware of the threat.
>Present and local insurrectionist forces have been recorded using the tundra regions of the planet to coordinate raids on UNSC compounds for several months preceding the invasion. Such operations have had many ground forces occupied moments before the attack began, furthering implications that the planet was nowhere near prepared for such magnitude. Reasonable assumptions state that Covenant Special Operations forces were on the surface about fifty hours before the invasion began. Covenant forces were expected to make landfall en mass shortly after. Their overall goals were uncertain, as always. Assumptions made by Commanding Officers mainly cited total annihilation, however ONI Staff point to ulterior motives. As Atis IV was a key strategic manufacturing planet for arming the outer set of human colonies, it could've been to hamper the war effort. It is unknown if any technology of interest was on the planet surface either. Loss of life is unrecorded. Military action is unknown. Final outcome of the Battle for Atis IV is yet to be updated.

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to Halo: Suffocation, a planetary defence Roleplay scenario surrounding individual characters and their overarching stories! This is less of a gamey military scenario and more of a character narrative, which is great. A plethora of characters, all separated from the common 'save the galaxy' storyline the mainline series is known for. We'll take ourselves to the very boots that roam the dirty plains, the grunts of the pack and the common men and women serving within the UNSC. Much like in the interest check, I'll be straight up saying that Spartan characters will not be allowed. There may be Spartan III NPCs that come into the story, but not to as main playable characters in our cast. This won't be a powertrip story, so I apologise if that is what you were looking for. For those who are well-into the idea of taking the eyes and ears of the UNSC military, then step right up for this disastrous set of events waiting to unfold!
Inspired by key events such as the Fall of Reach and the Harvest Campaign, this roleplay will focus mainly on Atis IV, a military strategic colony sitting on the borders of the inner and outer human colonies. Speaking of the characters, the opportunities rest within the UNSC military. These can vary from the standard branches of combat, such as the UNSC Marine Corps, the UNSC Army or the ODSTs, whilst also segmenting into more specialised roles, such as technicians, engineers, medical units and more. I'm inclined to discuss potential characters falling under different circumstance, such as a potential insurrectionist position, however I cannot confirm such things considering it'll have to mesh in a way that connects them to the characters. Throughout the RP, there will be an emphasis on both your expected military progression as well as the relationships and connections built between the cast. Whether they are rivalries, forged hatreds, friendships, basic camaraderie, romances or even things inbewteen, I'm looking forward to see how the characters develop as the situation grows in such a long way. I won't outright state whether or not there's concrete plans for the planet's fate, that's for us to figure out throughout our actions and efforts in this tale!
There are potentials for expanding beyond the planet, however I've not delved too much into those plans as I imagine the majority, if not all, of the roleplay will be based around Atis IV and its orbiting naval engagements. Best to keep us with one unifying goal that has many great options to choose from. Encounters in cities, open plain warfare, night time engagements, mountainous skirmishes and declassification of ONI facilities under assault are just a few of many examples we can choose from. In most cases, I'll open up several 'situations' in the RP at a time, in which players can be deployed between them to give some freedom of movement, however, I won't encourage separating yourself too much from the rest of the group. I'll also open up a Mission Submission thing, where if you want to do some small scale missions for your characters or a small group, you can request and pitch the idea to me and I'll basically accept it based upon what's going at that moment, as well as if it's actually plausible. So, to wrap characters up, the character sheet!
Feel free to edit the design of the character sheet to however you want. I won't go ape-shit over someone choosing to make it look snazzy but I won't penalise CS's that look simple. All about that sweet-sweet content, baby! Feel free to also add additional categories of information, just as long as you've got the important details in there, then it'll be okay. Anything else is just a bonus, usually!
And that should wrap this all up! If there are any questions, concerns, queries, inquiries or any other synonymous words to do with asking shit, drop a mention by or hit me up the OOC discord. For those going to join it, yes it is a big-ish server, I run it for a lot of other OOC servers based around RPG. Just drop me a tag there too to get stuff sorted out as well! I hope you've enjoyed reading this lil' intro to the RP and I can't wait to get stuff up and running!
