In the year 24XX, the metropolis known as Aegis 09, was faced with a massive energy crisis. The city had begun to take in too much energy than its Force Metal Generators could produce, and as a result, could face a catastrophic power failure. In desperation, the city's scientists started to experiment, in an attempt to create an artificially more powerful variety of Force Metal. Through many errors, they seemingly created the perfect Force Metal that was dubbed "Crimson Nova". While it seemingly had more power than normal, the side effects were immediately noticed. Machines began to malfunction, reploids enhanced by the Force Metal began to go haywire and attack anyone around them, and the Crimson Nova metal started to corrupt the city's systems.
Aegis 09 had traded one crisis for another, and as a result of reckless experimentation, more than half of the city has been quarantined. Special forces units comprised of volunteers and soldiers are deployed on a daily basis to combat the constant threat of crimson reploids, and scientists are working around the clock to find a way to stop Crimson Nova. One such unit of is about to take a routine patrol through the quarantine zone, a patrol that would become a battle for survival.
REPLOIDS Artificially created androids that were given sentience, giving them feelings and intelligence comparable to humans. They were originally designed for the aid of humanity, but have since integrated themselves into society and have become their own people. They are near identical to humans and, in some cases, can only be differentiated by the plates over where their ears would be. Other times, they are easily distinguishable by their build, being more bulky, tall, or slender to fit the role they were designed for.
PSEUDOROIDS Often referred to as Falseroids, these androids share the sentience of they're reploid counterparts, but are distinguished by having more animalistic features than human ones. Also, unlike reploids, pseudoroids are created through bio metal, from which they gain their abilities and strengths from. In the past, pseudoroids were seen as beasts who could turn Maverick at any moment, but with recent events, they have been created to aid in the fight against Crimson Nova.
BIO-METAL/FORCE METAL Two forms of power that have been used throughout history for many, many purposes. While Bio-Metal was created as a means to power chosen reploids and for the creation of pseudoroids, Force Metal was created as a power source for machines and tools, and can even be used to enhance and upgrade reploids and pseudoroids alike. Many experimental, illegal, and dangerous forms of Bio-Metal and Force Metal have been created throughout history and have lead to many threats to humanity. Crimson Nova is a prime example that humanity is doomed to repeat past mistakes.
MAVERICK A term given to robots and/or androids who have essentially gone rogue, whether through the means of a virus, an error or glitch in their systems, or just because they choose to. Mavericks seek their own goals and will achieve them no matter what, usually at the cost of human and reploid lives. Maverick Hunters were created to oppose the rogue intelligences, and are instructed to do whatever it takes to apprehend, or in most cases, destroy/kill the Maverick.

Oh, sorry, I had thought this was going to be related to Megaman: NT WARRIOR. I thought it'd be interesting to have a Net-Navigator commando cyberturf while a NCO.
Personality: While largely a secretive sort, Lex still adheres to a personal code of honor that demands trust between squad mates. It can be viewed as paradoxical at times, as Lex rarely talks about himself and clams up whenever anyone presses him for personal information. He doesn't have any strong views regarding the Crimson Nova. Overall he treats the crisis as little more than a job he is contracted to complete. He comes off like a mercenary because of these views, but one who is also a man of his word.
Biography: Lex was first created almost 30 years ago. And unlike most Reploids, who are built with almost superhuman appearances, Lex was curiously designed to much more accurately resemble a human being, from his build to even his facial features. The purpose for his creation was, at the time, considered questionable at best. In most states, it is often illegal for Reploids to be created to resemble real life people due to ethical debates. But one robotics engineer, Jared Statler, risked his reputation and career to ignore those laws when he created Lex. He had recently lost his son Alex, a law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty. Wracked with grief, Jared believed that Lex would be a way for him to still have a son.
The creation of this Reploid reignited the ethical debates, with some viewing Jared's actions as understandable while others believed he was losing his mind to do such a thing. As for the Reploid himself, Lex remained benign enough at first. But issues soon arose as the human memories he'd been programmed with began to clash with the more hard-lined logic of the Reploid. It sent Lex spiraling into an existential crisis, seemingly unable to discern whether he was the human named Alex or Reploid LX-2972A. He lashed out and attacked Jared when the latter tried to calm him, resulting in Jared Statler's death. For most people, that was it. The Reploid was largely believed to have gone Maverick and thus orders were given for Maverick Hunters to bring him in.
Lex ran, but had no combat capabilities, and so the Hunters caught up to him without much effort. But they didn't count on Lex's personality codes going haywire enough that he triggered his own self-destruct sequence. Lex exploded and the blast took out the Hunters that were bringing him in. For the most part, it appeared the case was closed. But LX-2972A hadn't quite perished that day, his body was in pieces but much of his CPU was still in tact. His parts were gathered by scavengers who sold them to a buyer on the black market. That buyer used the surviving parts in addition to foreign parts he possessed to rebuild the self-destructed Reploid. When reactivated, the Reploid reacted as if he were still being chased by Maverick Hunters and tried to flee. He was now equipped with weapons and even armor that allowed him to force his way out to freedom. He spent a long time after that in isolation, eventually able to repress the human memories and fully embrace himself as a Reploid. That was when he gave himself the name Lex, the name having come from the first two letters of his serial number, "LX".
Since he had apparently been redesigned for combat, Lex was found himself doing occasional mercenary work. Crimson Nova was in full swing by this point, and so whatever controversy had arisen from his original creation had been all but forgotten. And even if there were still some that remembered the incident from 30 years ago, Lex's combat overhaul had provided him enough alterations to his physical appearance that he no longer resembled what he looked like back then, at least not while he was donned his combat armor form. His most recent job was as part of a unit that was about to make a routine patrol in the Quarantine Zone.
Weaponry/Abilities: Lex's combat overhaul is based largely on technology that predates the use of Bio-Metal. As such he is instead equipped with a hand blaster and energy saber, common weaponry for Reploid units. In addition to that, his leg armor is equipped with thrusters meant for dashing on the ground and flying/hovering for short periods. The coat he wears is made from a synth-fabric capable of altering its colors. That combined with his armor's ability to do the same allows him to blend into backgrounds and surroundings for stealth purposes. His combat armor is of course designed for long-term sustainability, able to reduce battle damage a considerable amount and also capable of draining shield and weapon energy from fallen foes in order to replenish its energy while out on the field. Lex himself has been programmed with an adaptability combat protocol that allows him to rapidly analyze and master the use of any weapon he comes into the possession of outside of his own.
I'm giving full credit to the artist, Phoax, for this character. Just look at the animation they made! Awesomesauce.
Serial Number: NU-FOX-2GV
Name: Swift Fox
Codename/Nickname: Because of some issues he has with self-identity, Swift prefers to just be called by name.
Race: Pseudoroid
Gender: Male/He
Appearance:
Swift is a humanoid-fox varient Pseudoroid made for agility and quick movement while delivering energy barrages onto the enemy. He has somewhat the look of being mass-produced, and that is part of the problem in his life...because he was. You don't generally see a mouth on the guy, even though you can hear him talking clearly. The reason for this is that he prevents easy damage to his face by sealing it up seamlessly with the same Bio-Metal effect that forms the guns in his hands or alters other parts of his body for combat.
Personality:
Right off the bat, the main thing has to be that Swift has issues with his own identity. He is unique, and yet not so unique. He's distinctly identifiable among others, but that's because there use to be so many of him, or rather Pseudoroids of his type. It's a little complicated for him, having everybody know something about him except he himself. Oh, he understands his history, or rather the history of his 'kind', but he wasn't created with any memory of it, any prior programming. He is his own being, from start to finish. It's just that the legacy is a problem.
In spite of that, or maybe because of it, Swift is a fairly-decent get-along guy. He tries to be helpful to others so that they can see past...well...the past, and just accept that he is who he is, not what others were. The general distrust of Pseudoroids hits him, sometimes, and every time someone calls him Nu-Metal or just Fox, he can't help but feel sour and frustrated. He wants to be known and remembered than something better than the serial number on his chest, more dignified and better understood with-
DESTROY THE MODEL-I.
Sorry, what? Lost my train of thought. Anyway, Swift is dedicated to fight against the Crimson Nova Mavericks. Apart from wishing for the safety of others, he figures that his service will be recognized and that he will be seen as the outlyer from those that people seem to hate.
Weaponry/Abilities:
Hand Blasters - Both hands can reshape themselves into stable plasma-type blasters. Thus far, they have no element or special effect. They are quick rapid-fire weapons that Swift is fairly-adept in utilizing. (He's currently trying to upgrade them to fire a charge beam.)
Utility Tail - Sometimes referred to as the Swiss Army Tail, the fifth appendage of this Pseudoroid creates tools as needed in his day-to-day life or when on a mission. He has used it for repairs and modification, temporarily powering machines, cutting through solid objects with a plasma torch, or even acting as the Jaws of Life.
Scissor Wings - One of the more surprising things about Swift was that he emerged into the world with a pair of wings. This is extremely non-standard for his 'kind', as none of them were ever built with anything like this in mind. When closed, they just look like something cosmetically unique to him. Opened, however, they are compact flight engines and guiding fins.
Enhanced Sensory Suite - For tracking, marksmanship, and general awareness of threats and other hazards, he and the rest of the Nu-Fox line are equipped with hyper-sensitive auditory scanners, low-light and thermographic vision-enabled optics, and chemical analysis module. Basically, eyes, ears, and nose work extremely well.
Model-K - Swift runs on a Bio-Metal never seen before, the Model-K. It was identified only through intense analysis as 'Adaptive-Form Bio-Metal Model-K' and refused to give any specs whatsoever. However, examination of Swift himself indicates that because he is an unknown varient from the Nu-Fox type of Pseudoroid and that he seems to be self-altering to a point, it has been theorized that the Bio-Metal inside of him has been quietly upgrading his form and capabilities.
Biography: Where was he before? What was he doing prior to now? Well...
Silence... The distant sounds of the outside world barely reached the abandoned stretches of the factory. Then...without warning...activity. Computers sprang to life as new power flowed through their systems, and the assembly line began to move once more. Instructions to the long-dormant machines were clear: One unit to be created, non-standard type, with the equipment on the list. The task was completed in no time, the unit now resting at the end of the conveyor belt it had been formed upon, and then...once more...silence. Everything deactivated, and fell still.

No, stop! Leave me alone!
Blue eyes short open, slightly-luminous to the surroundings as the figure jumped to his feet, shouting "Who's there?!", but receiving no answer. He was alone. Looking himself over, he appeared to be intact, and a status screen indicated this fact, but also flashed a brief warning message: Contact Lost. He had no idea what that was about. Contact from who? What were they talking about? Also...who was he? Where was he? And what was that on the grou-
"Oh, crap...! It's dead..."
A quick look around revealed that ALOT were dead, and they all looked very similar. They were metallic fox machines, gun-metal gray machines that looked agile, dangerous, and...destroyed. Someone had blasted them, all of them, and rendered most of this factory area inoperative. Then...how did he get here? A survivor of the battle? Whose side was he on? The closest machine had a serial number on the chest - Nu-Fox-115 - right above the blaster bolt that must've gone through its chest. He looked down and...his eyes widened.
"I'm one of them..."
Well...sort of. Where they were a metallic gray, he was a darkish orange color. Also, he was completely unharmed, even pristine, and they were all very ruined from combat. He searched for answers, and eventually found an intact computer. There was no power, but he found that he could give it a charge with his tail to bring it back to life again. Doing so gave him access, and what he found was this...
'Due to the ever-increasing resource demands for untainted Bio-Metal and Force-Metal in the world, the Nu-Fox line of Pseudoroid is a new type of mechanism utilizing a revolutionary new method of power distribution for the soldier of tomorrow.'
...and some technical specifications on what he could do, which included these nifty hand blasters and utility tail. However, none of this explained what happened here, why he was here, or what these odd fins on his back were. None of the others had them. He had to get out of here, find some more information. Unfortunately, when he did so, he found...oh boy...some pretty dangerous-looking - and dangerously unstable - figures in the vicinity. They attacked! He fought and ran, pretty much at once, putting some distance between him and them, but no matter where he went, there were more of these lunatics running around. Had he been brought into a world already destroyed and eating itself? He had to get out of here! There had to be somewhere he could go, somewhere safe! He was almost surrounded on a building when suddenly, the fins on his back opened up and...what the hell? He was flying?!
I don't care! I'll take it!
He flew out of there at top speed, frantically searching for some indicator of where he could go. He saw what looked like a better part of town and went for it, just gunning it for the shinier, cleaner buildings and not paying much attention to anything else. ...that was how he got shot down. They hit him in the wing and he took a dive, rolling hard to a stop on a road down below, beyond a wall between the better half and the worst half of Aegis 09. At first, he thought the crazy ones got him, but these looked more like organized fighters. Organized fighters pointing guns at him...
"Say your prayers, Maverick!"
"No, wait! I'm not a Maverick! I'm alright!"
"Yeah, right! A Nu-Fox flying out of the quarantine on stolen jets is 'alright'."
"Please, I haven't done anything! I just woke up a few hours ago!"
This brought on alot of confusion, as he seemed to be acting normal enough, if frantically worried for his own survival. They took him into custody, and it was in a cell that it was explained to him - by someone a bit more in charge - that the reason he was being thought of as an obvious Maverick was not only due ti the Crimson Nova plague...but also due to the incident at Nu-Tech Industries, creator of the Nu-Fox Pseudoroid. They were made to be a swift attack force against all threats to the city and potentially be used to protect any population or important site.
"We don't know how they worked, exactly, because - unlike you, it seems - the Nu-Fox Pseudoroids didn't have a Bio-Metal device in any of them. You're different, surprisingly."
Very different, in fact, because when Crimson Nova struck, 100% of the Nu-Fox units went rogue, went Maverick, and they would've overrun the city if the factory they were produced at hadn't been raided and everything destroyed. So, that was it. His legacy was that he was the black sheep of a 'family' of wild foxes that tried to kill every being in the city, possibly spreading to new cities. People were going to think he was one of those things, unless...
"They were made as a special attack force, to protect the city?"
"Swift attack force. And yeah, that was their purpose."
"Sign me up, then. I'll fight. That's how I'll prove myself."
"Alright, I think I can get someone to agree to that. Ya got a name for the file there, guy?"
Been a long-time fan of the Megaman X series (the first few games anyways), so I'm throwing in my interest with a character:
Gauss Atlas
Name: Gauss Atlas Codename/Nickname: Just 'Gauss' or 'Atlas' Race: Pseudoroid Gender: Referred to using female pronouns Personality:
Gauss Atlas is supportive if a bit jaded. As a lifetime worker in the infrastructural service industry, her willingness to help has been eroded by an endless stream of complaints and ingratitude from those to whom she has provided services. Still, it's not like she can't sympathize, not having power sucks, but there is only so much she, as a small gear in a city-sized machine, can accomplish, especially given lack resources. However, with the recent crisis, she feels herself truly beginning to shine again, having taken disaster relief training, she can show her supportive, almost matronly side.
Biography:
Gauss Atlas was commissioned by Aegis 09's Department of Infrastructure to support and repair the city's failing energy grid. Gauss' life was the life of an overworked repairman, running from one blackout to the next as customer complaints flooded in. Sometimes he would fix a downed power pole, other times, she would simply plug herself into the grid to provide backup power until others could perform the necessary repairs. It was a thankless, job, but it gave Gauss purpose. When she heard of the development of Crimson Nova, she was skeptical, believing that the current energy crisis had more to do with mismanagement and bureaucracy; she was also afraid that a new energy source might put her out of a job. But now that disaster has struck, Gauss will do what she was designed for, whether that meant repairing damage to the city, providing power, or fighting those who would cause harm.
Weaponry/Abilities:
Element: Electromagnetism Attacks:
Mag-Lev - Gauss can, to a certain extent, fly, but not very well, using magnetic levitation.
Gauss Cannon - metallic scrap is drawn into the space between Gauss' horns and magnetically accelerated forward as lethal kinetic impactors. (A 75% physical, 25% energy, long-ranged attack).
Ferromagnetic Plating - Gauss' outermost layer of armor is detachable and can be telekinetically controlled with magnetism to form a storm of shrapnel, to block certain energy attacks, to be flung at enemies to immobilize them, or to be gifted to an ally to provide protection. (A 50% physical, 50% energy, medium-ranged defensive/supportive move with mildly offensive/crowd control applications).
Tesla Suplex - Gauss magnetically pulls an opponent into her horns, grabs them, levitates upwards, then slams her opponent down, accelerating with the force of gravity amplified by magnetically attracting herself to the earth. (A 100% physical close-ranged grab attack).
Generator Arc - Using the dynamo in her body and her original purpose of providing electricity, Gauss creates a powerful arc between the tips of her horns, like a giant taser, making for a short-range, but devastating attack. She can also use her horns to arc weld and repair simple wounds.(A 100% energy close-ranged attack or a 100% physical close-ranged repairing support ability).
Cannibal Charging - With an opponent gripped in her horns, Gauss is capable of reversing the polarity of her generator to steal power from her opponent while replenishing her own. (A 100% energy close-ranged grab attack, does no damage, steals energy instead).
Backup Power - Using the tips of her horns, Gauss can inject energy to replenish an ally's reserves at the cost of her own energy. (A 100% energy restoring support ability).
Biometal:
Gauss uses the Model HA, based off of an ancient, electricity-wielding beetle reploid.
@Double@FalloutJack@Stern Algorithm Alright, y'all can put your characters into the character tab. Consider yourselves accepted. Sorry for the wait. I'll get things going either tonight or tomorrow.
Appearance: Regan has a lean chassis, with long brown heat sinks, looking like hair. The shutters in her eyes are brown, and her face is slender. She looks rather human, though her legs are somewhat bully, in support of her leg boosters.
Personality: A serious individual, Regan recognizes Crimson Nova as a very real threat to the city, herself, and those around her.
Biography: Regan had been a housekeeper for an old martial arts family before the outbreak. She was working when it happened, and was able to recognize signs of something wrong thanks to her previous survival of a maverick outbreak, where she lived last. Because of that, she was able to save her employers, even as the home was claimed by the haywire machines.
Weaponry/Abilities: An energy blaster pistol and the sword she used to escape from her old employer's house. She's got leg boosters, too
Misc: Learned some martial arts from her employer.
Yup. Like, "they're weaker than us and more emotional, that's why we gotta protect them", sort of way. Might feel closer to chauvinism than racism, but with less of the power dynamic.
Yup. Like, "they're weaker than us and more emotional, that's why we gotta protect them", sort of way. Might feel closer to chauvinism than racism, but with less of the power dynamic.
Yeah it feels a little more like that or patronization than full blown racism.
