To many people, living life is something that should never be taken for granted. The belief that the will to live is essential in personal growth, the ability to accomplish, and in keeping up ones mental health has been drilled into the minds of the general populace because in a sense it is. Motivation is key to success, at least for those who are not Kyle Hishamie. It is not as if He plans on killing himself, or if handed a loaded gun he would not point the tip of gun towards himself. Not because he has a will to survive but simply because his survival instinct would not let him. That same instinct kept him moving when he was a child and he would feel the weight of his fathers hate and anger towards him, kept him moving when his older brother left t he family to seek out his own fortune, to keep moving forward no matter how cruel the other children were, and it kept him alive in the army.
He enlisted after graduating high school in order to get as far away from his father as possible. At some point in his early life he came to the conclusion that if he became a piece of government property, he could keep his father away without fear of his father coming after him with force. After all, how could his father force him to return home to work for the family business if he was contractually obligated to not do so. Kyle joined the army, active duty, and it was there that he felt the most will to live he had ever felt. For a time.
Almost immediately after basic training he was sent to Baghdad on his first deployment. There was no immediate war looming, but it was not as if the locals appreciated any kind of American in their neighborhood. within his first six months he had four confirmed kills without even being in a firefight. This killed a certain spark that had been dimly going inside of him, for how can a man keep his humanity when humanity attacks him in the market, outside his base, and on patrol on civilian roads. While Kyle quickly and calmly dispatched enemies that would attempt to sacrifice themselves with explosives, in an attempt to get rid of the American forces stationed there, at some point he simply did what he did to keep his battle buddies safe and not so much the same for himself. Normally a deployment would last no more than a year, but due to his exemplary skills Kyle was given the order stay another year. To serve another tour without so much as rest home back in the states.
Kyle did indeed return home to Fort Gordon after being deployed for two years, going awol was not an option, but he had not returned home the same man that he once was. As a child he was insatiably curious, warm hearted, imaginative, and pacifistic even with his fathers cruel jabs and taunts and abuse. He knew his father may be the God of his world as a child, but he held some small hope that when he was old enough to leave that would be the start of a new life. He believed that the army would give him the funds and knowledge he would need to be able to be self dependent. Instead, after his deployment and two more years at Fort Gordan he fulfilled his service contract and left the base as a man who simply lived to work. As a man who kept to himself, who no longer saw everything as an opportunity, who truly hated himself but was cursed with enough intelligence to know that just because he felt this way this was by no means an excuse to be a burden on anyone else. He had saved most of the money he made, so Kyle was able to rent an apartment, and after almost a year of being alone and unemployed Kyle enrolled in community college. Kyle had always had outstanding grades but he felt like some big time college was not necessary and would only draw attention to himself. His plan was simple. Get a degree, find a job, work until he dropped, stay in the background. Its not as if he believed he deserved to be lesser, but Kyle had entirely lost his will to strive. To find the American dream, to obtain all that he never had as a child. Friends, family who cared for him deeply, and that thing that all men and women have. To hope.
To give a little bit more insight into Kyle here is a bit more information. Kyle had never had a job before enlisting, as his father would not let him. Verdock Hishamie repeatedly stated that when Kyle came of legal age he would work for him so there was not a single reason Kyle needed another job. Verdock never recovered from his wifes untimely demise, which was shortly after Kyles birth. Depression is a hell of a thing. Kyles older brother Conrad was one of the few people who cared about Kyle, but not even brotherly love could keep Conrad tied to his fathers home forever, to have to deal with their father as they did. Kyle always made good grades all throughout school, and while he was never considered......"popular" lest say, the young man was considered to be talented and bright in most that he did.
Kyle, at this time, is 23 with dark brown eyes and Mediterranean skin. Kyle is of Greek and French descent and is stands at 6'2.
Knack
Kyle can typically find a way to combine or to repair whatever items he has on hand. That is to say he isn't a miracle worker and if something is broken beyond repair he cant just make it come to life. He simply....usually can find a way to fix what's broken but not beyond repair or to make whatever suits his needs with very outlandish things on hand. This knack has come in very handy in his previous line of work even if he himself didn't realize what this truly was.
Gifts
Kyle has a natural affinity with the element of light. At this current time, this does not mean much as Kyle is not even aware of his powers.
Due to Kyles innate nature, due to his souls true shape and character, he has the unique ability of emotional suggestion. Emotional Suggestion is a it sounds, this allows Kyle to share certain emotions and mental states within a certain range. The sobriety of a target can also affect the potency, the more inebriated a target is the more difficult it is to actually affect the target. Black out drunk is an example of what is not affected by this power.
The range for this power is 5 feet on average and 10 feet when Kyle himself is emotionally riled up, but this is rare as Kyle does not feel strongly about much at this time due to his mental state being less than healthy at the time of enrolling in BCC. So this gift is less than powerful as it could be. Targets within 3 feet of Kyle though have a chance of more or less experiencing this power in a different way somewhat. Normally, Kyles targets would simply become overcome with the emotion or mental state that Kyle has sent out, ex. Kyle stands 5 feet away from his target. He sends out a wave of angry emotions to his target. This will cause the person or animal to behave in their own way how they would if in that situation they naturally were overcame with inexplicable anger. Kyle cannot control a persons actions through this power, so it is more useful on unsuspecting or uninformed targets. But I digress, the target within 3 feet would not only feel the way Kyle wants them to but they also gain a sort of six sense on Kyles actual emotional and mental state. Think of it like the person 5 feet away can only be affected by Kyles power. But the person 3 feet away can sort of peer through the window of Kyles soul to see how he truly feels in that moment. Something Kyle does not want and tries his best to keep from happening, ya know.....if he knew that's how it worked.
Kyles powers are useful but come with a price. He can only use this power effectively when in direct sun or moon light, as his affinity towards light is what powers this exemplary talent. If Kyle uses this ability when he does not have the connection towards a natural light source the ability becomes extremely unreliable and has an extremely high chance of not working at all. If this happens Kyle will feel some slight head pain or nausea. The target of this power does not become entranced by Kyle as this ability simply is an attempt to overwrite a persons emotional and mental state with a different one, not to make them become a different person or to do something they would not naturally do. Kyle can only affect a person when eye contact is made, and the way the emotional and mental state is through magical suggestion. Kyle needs to keep eye contact and speak to his target, Further more the amount of emotions and how intense of a mental state Kyle tries to suggest to person to have is key to understanding the drawbacks of Emotional Suggestion. Simple suggestions such as
Your shoelace keeps coming untied, doesn't that irritate you? which would arouse mild irritation could cause a minor pain behind Kyles eyes, the same kind of pain you would receive if you had gone without breakfast and lunch and had to work the entire afternoon and night, up to a mild form of dizziness. More intense Suggestions such as
Is it not a shame that while you have friends who adore you, you have no one who can truly say they love you? Someone who wishes to spend their life with you? which can cause intense depression or severe underlying anger could cause a crushing migraine up to falling unconscious after a slight time delay and body pain.
Kyle can fall comatose and even die with extended serious use of this power or if too many failed Emotional Suggestions take place within a short period of time. Kyle can also succumb rapidly to worse and worse pains when he tries suggest something to a person who also has magical abilities that are more aligned on the psychic category. Those who have powers that fall in line with the elemental manipulation category for example would not normally under non strange conditions cause Kyle to be affected in some way out of ordinary when he uses his powers. He still feels the drawbacks but not as heavily as if he had done so to a psychic, which would cause worse pains as mentioned previously.
